Help with XBox controller glitches on Windows 10?

I have a wired XBox 360 controller that I use with my PC to play racing games and such, and I've been experiencing an issue where every so often the controller will freeze up and be stuck "pressing" the last button that I pressed, so the car will keep turning right or going forward or whatever. While this is happening no buttons on the controller work but keyboard and mouse inputs still work on top of whatever input the game is receiving from the frozen controller button. I have tried restarting Windows after a clean boot as suggested by this post on Microsoft's forums but it didn't work. I tried with a different wired controller (not Microsoft brand) and had the exact same issue.
