ATX vs MATX vs MITX?

rahulr1

I intend to build a new rig relatively soon and I'm having a hard time think out what size case I should buy. I love the FT03 mini and I think the ability to fit a GTX 680 in something so small is amazing. Yet I also love case like the NZXT Phantom 410 which look sweet (but not as good) and offer better upgradability. I will also inevitably buy a sound card and the idea of going external for the sake of being small scares me a bit. MATX seems like a good option with the ability to have a sound card and a graphics card in the same case. AAAARGH PLEASE HELP!

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770k | Graphics Card: PowerColor 7970 V3 | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77X-UD4H | HDD: 2TB Seagate Barracuda | Memory: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz CL9 | PSU: XFX Core Series 550W Black Edition | Case: Corsair 200r | Monitors: LG 23EA63V 23" 1920x1080 IPS 60Hz + Lenovo L1700pC 17" 1280x1024 75Hz

I'd go with the the FT03 mini and just buy a USB headset. (Assuming that's what you're using, if we're talking speakers, then that's a different case) I love smaller chassis, just because of their weight, especially if you're going to a LAN. So in your shoes, I'd go with just that.

ATX is the best price per performance in terms of the features that you get and with some you can get 2 gpus and go sli, i dont think tis is possible with mATX however if size is everything then just get an mATX

I am looking at buliding a small build, first thought of mITX, but since I so desperately need a soundcard, I wan't a mATX instead. I do not require more than a GPU and soundcard, that's it.

Most cases have cable management holes designed for ATX board so if you want a cleaner build go with an ATX board.

If he wants a sound card, he probably knows better than to get a headset.

Well, what are your needs? Does it need to be portable, or is size even an issue?
