Do you guys remember the Detonator modded drivers ?

Some might be too young to remember, but do you all remember the Detonator drivers for GeForce cards,  I wonder what happened to that guy and if he could really make better drivers then nVidia.  I would love to use third party open drivers but I guess nVidia is doing a good enough job so there are none out there.
