A few articles that popped up on my news feed are kind of upset over the idea that the new business model for consoles from here on out may be to shell out an upgraded refresh every two years or so. That now they are copying the cellphone model and feeding on the drive that people must have the latest and greatest shiny thing, lest they look like an ancient old fart living under a rock. I don't really mind it so much, as long as they continue to not kill support for the older consoles until the average lifespan of a console generation. If Apple can make the iPhone 4S still relevant, albeit with growing pains, then I'm sure Sony and Microsoft can keep the PS4 and XB1 relevant for another three years. But here's something else that tickles me about why hating this new model seems kind of silly. It's the one feature that is so desired, a game changer if you will, and is giving the XB1 a rather good edge over the PS4: backwards compatibility. This new model makes backwards compatibility mostly a moot point. As long as the standards don't deviate terribly in the coming years, a PlayStation or Xbox under this model 5 years from now should still be able to play launch titles. Hell, if you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, you can still run Windows 2.0 apps that came with the OS. I suppose people's fears are that when you have this sort of model, the value of the previous models drops so significantly that you're stuck in a rut. Nobody's going to want a PS4 or XB1 when the Neo and Scorpio come out is the idea and so you'll get a pittance if you want to resale it. Well, for the most part, didn't this happen to consoles whose games were backwards compatible on the next generation? I'm sure nobody wanted to buy a PS1 when the PS2 could play its games. The GameCube to the Wii (though that depends if you really used the GameCube's addons), and now I'm sure fewer people are hunting for Xbox 360's now that the Xbox One has a respectable backwards compatible library. But anyway, this is a good model to follow, as long as you don't force upgrades on people too soon.

Does anyone know if using two Bluetooth adapters allows someone to connect 2 Xbone One controllers via Bluetooth? Or if you have the stuff to test it can someone for me?

Hey guys, just wondering how far along XBone and PS4 emulation has come. My roommate is out of town and let me borrow his PS4 so I could play God Of War and Spider Man, and oh boy, am I HOOKED. I just don't really want to cough up the dough for my own PS4 if I can avoid it, lol. Last time I checked (about two years ago) there was no finished emulator for the PS4 or Xbox One, but I figured I would check in to see if one had come out yet that's worth its salt, since we are nearing the latter part of the current console generation. If not, what programs out there are worth keeping an eye on for the future?

Ignore the title. Since i got my Computer, my brother's been begging me to put some kind of console on the tv and since i've never hold a controller or console in my life, except PS1 and PS2. I've had very hard time choosing to get Xbone or PS4 or even Wii U. Before you say "Just buy a new computer for your brother" i'm broke AF. i bought my pc and redecorate my room which cost me around 7000$. Also quick question PS Vita or 3ds XL?

Not sure whether to post this on Deal section. It seemed like a news to me. So, I'm posting this on News section. Now students who are living in US can get a free XBOX One [old bigger one, not "S"] if you purchase Surface Pro 4. Basically, they're getting rid of old stocks. I can say. Source: Engadget.

I found a mirrors edge catalyst xbone controller, however I can't seem to get it to work though. It doesn't detect any drivers when I plug it in and it doesn't work with any of the drivers I've downloaded from Microsoft. I'm running win 7 64b. Anyone else have this controller and have been able to get it to work?

Living with my wife in a 1 bedroom apartment has shown its issues. Like gaming on a custom PC is not all quite possible when using the space as efficiently as we try. I have resorted to console gaming on the Xbox One and PS3 while needing to be creative. This build log shows the work in progress of cleaning up my little bit of gaming space while also showing the creativity of keeping an apartment classy and clutter free (at least in to a tight corner). Also, this was a good time to learn creative wood techniques. Hope you all enjoy. This is my current setup, complete with wiring. I keep game cases in the tiny box to the bottom right. My old Xbox 360 could sit on that coke box, but the Xbone doesn't allow for vertical standing. Tried. I hide power plugs behind the coke box and an extension cord when I get my SNES to play some Donkey Cong country. Here is a close up look of the TV. A no frills Sony. It feeds down under the carpet. Didn't do that on purpose. Landlord had to fix the subfloor and the wiring got tucked under it. Quite nice. Yes, that is a first gen Zune. Best media player on the planet and it still works. Only a 3 hour battery now. Here is the culprit that I am going to fix. I will build a shelf to stack the PS3 and Xbone. Idea is to add an HDMI switcher to allow the computer behind the bag to run on the TV as well. I will do a separate post when I get around to getting the PC up and running as a media server and NAS. I am going to fix all my problems with this. Scrap wood. Courtesy of my father in law, as well as the power tools to make my storage organizer. I won't show the steps in cutting. Pretty standard cuts with very basic joints, glue, and 4 in screws. Most of the pieces together to form a frame. Ran out of time and grabbed a piece to take home and verify it would fit. Perfect! And yes, the Xbone will squeeze in there with micrometers to spare on each side. I won't be boarding up the sides for airflow sake. I will finish putting all the pieces together this week and will upload more pics. Thanks for taking a look. All thoughts are welcome. ~TheCamba

well kotaku have a source inside microsoft saying that there will be 2 consoles a small one coming this year, with double storage cheaper and focused on streaming, not clear if it's a revised xbone or some kind of steamlink device.. and another xbox more powerfull coming in 2017, and...the 2017 xbox will be compatible with Oculus rift...this actualy makes sense as to why microsoft seemed so weirdly close to oculus here is the Source for Kotaku article SamReport video here also so im not fan of microsoft or the xbox, and i do not like how they are trying to turn PC into a console, but some of these thing might actualy help them sell the xbox especialy VR, if the oculus rumor is true, which technicaly is possible, the box is basicaly running windows 10, although i dont see how all of this would work price wise, the oculus+touch should be around 800$, not an easy sell, and the price is still too high even if bundled, anyway this E3 might be very interesting if sony/microsoft explain more their plans.

So my monitor has horrific audio and I can't play games on my Xbone anymore with it. Does Windows 10 game streaming use your PC's audio, or still use the monitor it's connected to? I'm using Windows 7 but I'll use 10 if it uses my PC audio.

Lichdom Battlemage has been on the PC since 2014. It's made on CryEngine 3 and encorporates the second generation of AMD's TressFX (the first version to introduce the master/slave hair strand principle, that made TressFX so efficient in Rise of the Tomb Raider (third generation)). In the game you play as a mage, who can create their own spells, attacks etc. in first person. Well it has now been launched for PS4 and XBox One, and the results are insane. Playstation 4 never reaches 30fps and will mostly run sub 20 frames. Yes you read that right, SUB 20 FPS. XBone is even worse, with glaring screen tearing in every single scene. Despite this pathetic performance, at least the game has fast level loading. It only takes more than 2 minutes, but at least you won't need to reload the entire level when dying. WARNING: Watching this video might cause simulation sickness due to very low frame rates. My take on this: I cannot fathom how Sony or Microsoft could sign off on this release. The performance is unacceptable. This was originally a game made with the help of AMD to test out the second generation of TressFX, and was a fairly interesting take on a magic genre with customizable magic powers. However this console version should never have been released. I wonder if there is a problem with CryEngine 3, producing complex/nice looking graphics on consoles, or where the massive bottleneck is on this release. All I know is that I feel queezy from simulation sickness after watching this youtube video in full screen. UGH!. *Update* The devs seems to have fixed the horribly low FPS as mentioned here. Higher FPS, lower loading pauses (still high), this patch seems to actually make the game playable. The XBone version is the best, as the PS4 version has unlocked FPS, causing hitches and what not. Maybe it will be fixed in a later patch still? Well, this is gonna be interesting. In my opinion everything will depend on the pricing of those optional upgrades if it indeed this is going to happen. It is also really interesting to see how they will implement those upgrades since as far as I know there is no PCIe on the board. This could also mean the APU is upgradable? source source2

I know, I know, this a PC-centric community, but for those that may be thinking about also getting a console (or know someone who is for the holidays), this is a pretty crazy price. Hey everyone, with Christmas around the corner I was interested in getting a new controller. I am a pc gamer at heart but I play shooters on xbox one. I am looking to get either a scuf or the xbox one elite controller because I need the paddles to map to my ABXY buttons. I believe with shipping and the fact that scuf overprices everything, ridiculously, they are the same price. I was thinking about the xbox one elite controller and saw Luke's review on the channel, but I was scared if the buttons would be pressed accidentally. I looked and the buttons on the elite Xbone are directly where my fingers are on the back of the controller, which is great because I don't have to move them to hit the buttons, but I am also worried because Luke mentioned something about accidental inputs. I saw some other youtubers talking about the accidental inputs as well, is this a really big problem? I kinda clutch the control a little bit but I'm not furiously grabbing it. I was considering the scuf because I have never heard anything about the accidental presses or whatever, but those stick paddles don't seem comfortable at all. Bottom line: The Elite xbone is more erginominal and looks more comfortable but I'm worried I will accidentally press those buttons while just holding the controller or if I tense up I will grab them. Any suggestions? Does anyone have any input to this? Thanks

Okay console gamers which would you prefer to have. A higher detailed larger resolution game, but at a reduced frame rate. Or Higher frame rate and a less detailed game at a higher frame rate? now of cause if you had wanted both you should have chosen the glorious pc master race.

So I am by far no expert in emulation. In fact, I know next to nothing other than the fact that you're basically emulating the hardware of another machine, but since the XBone is built on the x86 architecture and its getting an xbox 360 emulator, wouldn't we be able to port it to PC fairly easily?

Got a bit of a weird question. I saw a youtube video recently in which a very well known FGC competitive gamer was showing off his custom made fightstick. Not only was this something of a masterpiece, but he said that it would apparently work on all platforms! He went further to state that it would plug and play on PC, PS3, PS4, 360, and Xbone. He didn't state how he made that happen, only that he did not build it and that it was a very expensive custom stick made for him by a fan. Now this spiked my curiosity, as I game on literally all platforms, but I refuse to spend almost 200 bucks on a stick that isn't compatible with more than two platforms. I then started thinking that, if this was possible, then it might also be possible to do the same to a wheel, like the much heralded Logitech G series, particularly the G29 which I've been eyeing pretty hard lately. So, my question to you people out there in cyber space who are undoubtedly a good bit more intelligent than me in these matters is; how do I go about doing this to a fight stick or wheel in detail? Where would I go for detailed guides, or better yet, to pay for a custom fightstick or wheel that will work on all platforms. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Microsoft has finally released an official TV tuner for the Xbox one, enabling users to watch TV on their Xbox one with Kinect and Smartglass integration. Receiving TV signals was one of the main uses advertised at launch, and almost 550 days after launch, the Xbox One is finally getting this feature. Source: http://www.techhive.com/article/2923930/xbox-one-antenna-support-becomes-official-with-60-us-tv-tuner.html I am not posting due to the fact that this is available, I am posting because it is quite sad it took them this long to add a feature that they hyped up at launch. Microsoft tried to pitch the Xbox One as a entertainment device that could also play games, but had to adapt to make it primarily a gaming machine when they realized nobody wanted a $400 DVR, and this is what they get - features that were prioritized in launch marketing getting finished almost 2 years after launch. Edit: Fixed link. Led to a link about a cake scale. Oops.
