  1. Basically: Should I use an update tool which is designed for windows 7 but is running on windows 10 in compatibility mode to update my bios. Explanation: So the problem is my ddr3 memory is currently running at 800mhz. I've go into my bios to try and change the speed and the only options are 800mhz or Auto and both yield the same results. There is a jumper on the board labelled 133mhz mem oc and I have tried to use this but moving it's position to the other pins upsets the motherboard and sends out an memory error bios code even though the memory i'm trying to use is 133mhz rated. My bios isn't the latest version though and I believe updating may solve my problem however, the tool used to update it "Fox Live Update" is designed to be used for up to windows 7 and to get it to show any correct information about my system I had to install it using the windows compatibility tool. My over arching question about this issue is do I A:Use this tool in compatibility mode which may have unknown consequences or do I use the very old hard drive running windows XP which is also supported by the tool? Any insight would be really appreciated Details About the System are in the text file System Info.txt
  2. So i recently bought a new MOBO, CPU and Ram, when i put everything together and loaded up my windows 7 installation disc, i noticed that it would restart the PC a couple seconds into the normal windows 7 loading screen, and would repeat this over and over again. I have extensively searched and tested methods however none seem to work.. Methods I've tried to fix this: Safe mode Safe mode with network Removing ram so there is only one stick Changing the sata cables connected to my SSD and sata ports on the MOBO Testing with a HDD Resetting BIOS And a couple others ive forgotten, please let me know, i cant use any programs obviously as its got no OS on it(sort of the issue) Thanks!
  3. My screen had become dim and black after I spilled some small amount of water on the keyboard. The laptop (HP) is like 8 years old and is operating on windows 7. When the water fell on the keyboard, I panicked and removed the keyboard from the laptop immediately. I then dried of the water from the keyboard and placed it back into the laptop. When I was connecting the keyboard to the laptop, the screen blinked two times and went black. I started to worry whether will the laptop work or not. I restarted the laptop but it was black still and I became a lot worried. I then noticed something on the screen and it was the HP logo which was very dim. I felt relieved but the screen was dim which I was not happy about. I started the windows normally and waited for the windows to load everything. Good news - The laptop works Bad news - It's way to dim and I can't see anything so I just can put on the torch to see where I was going. Another bad news - I am in lock down and I can't get out of the house and give this laptop for repairing. So please, I really need your help. I want your help to fix this laptop and it needs to be done very soon. I want to at least be able to use this laptop until the lock down is over and that I can buy a new one.
  4. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I currently have 2 VM’s setup on my arch desktop. One is windows 10, one is windows 7. The spice interface is very laggy in windows 7 only; and pretty buttery smooth in windows 10, even though they are both pretty much identical XML files. I did notice that it appears worse when there is a larger amount of things on screen (Such as opening a .net project; the lag gets significantly worse) so thought perhaps this was due to Win7 Ryzen compatability. I tried to follow guide to use a piece of software called ppmpanel to alter the power settings hidden in windows (apparently performance increases for Ryzen, though it had no effect & not really meant for VM’s) I am using a Ryzen 1700x, and installed all virtio drivers, spice drivers, guest tools on both VM’s. I've also ascertained that RDP works well though not an option for day to day, so I'm think this is a spice issue Any help much appreciated, XML below <domain type="kvm"> <name>win7-work</name> <uuid>d77704e3-1169-4af2-b053-962043f66010</uuid> <memory unit="KiB">8192000</memory> <currentMemory unit="KiB">8192000</currentMemory> <vcpu placement="static">8</vcpu> <iothreads>4</iothreads> <os> <type arch="x86_64" machine="pc-i440fx-4.2">hvm</type> <bootmenu enable="no"/> </os> <features> <acpi/> <apic/> <hyperv> <relaxed state="on"/> <vapic state="on"/> <spinlocks state="on" retries="8191"/> <vpindex state="on"/> <runtime state="on"/> <synic state="on"/> <stimer state="on"/> <reset state="on"/> <vendor_id state="on" value="other"/> <frequencies state="on"/> <reenlightenment state="on"/> <tlbflush state="on"/> <ipi state="off"/> <evmcs state="off"/> </hyperv> <vmport state="off"/> <ioapic driver="kvm"/> </features> <cpu mode="host-passthrough" check="none"/> <clock offset="utc"> <timer name="hypervclock" present="yes"/> </clock> <on_poweroff>destroy</on_poweroff> <on_reboot>restart</on_reboot> <on_crash>destroy</on_crash> <pm> <suspend-to-mem enabled="no"/> <suspend-to-disk enabled="no"/> </pm> <devices> <emulator>/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64</emulator> <disk type="file" device="disk"> <driver name="qemu" type="raw" cache="none" io="native"/> <source file="/home/sarutael/Desktop/W7.raw"/> <target dev="vda" bus="virtio"/> <boot order="1"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x04" function="0x0"/> </disk> <controller type="pci" index="0" model="pci-root"/> <controller type="virtio-serial" index="0"> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x05" function="0x0"/> </controller> <controller type="usb" index="0" model="ich9-ehci1"> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x02" function="0x7"/> </controller> <controller type="usb" index="0" model="ich9-uhci1"> <master startport="0"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x02" function="0x0" multifunction="on"/> </controller> <controller type="usb" index="0" model="ich9-uhci2"> <master startport="2"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x02" function="0x1"/> </controller> <controller type="usb" index="0" model="ich9-uhci3"> <master startport="4"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x02" function="0x2"/> </controller> <controller type="sata" index="0"> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x09" function="0x0"/> </controller> <interface type="direct"> <mac address="00:50:56:3e:7d:1c"/> <source dev="enp6s0f0" mode="bridge"/> <model type="virtio"/> <link state="up"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x08" function="0x0"/> </interface> <channel type="spicevmc"> <target type="virtio" name="com.redhat.spice.0"/> <address type="virtio-serial" controller="0" bus="0" port="1"/> </channel> <input type="tablet" bus="usb"> <address type="usb" bus="0" port="1"/> </input> <input type="mouse" bus="ps2"/> <input type="keyboard" bus="ps2"/> <graphics type="spice" autoport="yes"> <listen type="address"/> <image compression="off"/> <gl enable="no" rendernode="/dev/dri/by-path/pci-0000:0b:00.0-render"/> </graphics> <sound model="ich6"> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x06" function="0x0"/> </sound> <video> <model type="qxl" ram="65536" vram="65536" vgamem="65536" heads="1" primary="yes"/> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x03" function="0x0"/> </video> <redirdev bus="usb" type="spicevmc"> <address type="usb" bus="0" port="2"/> </redirdev> <memballoon model="virtio"> <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x07" function="0x0"/> </memballoon> </devices> </domain>
  5. As today is the very last day before Windows 7 supports ended, I would like to take this opportunity to wallow in my room and cry over. Anyway, what impact does Windows 7 have in your life? For me, probably good riddance of Windows Vista. But while everyone goes for Windows 7, I took the less path travel, which is to go for Linux (Ubuntu to be exact). I didn't use Windows 7 much in my life. Well, let's get all the good vibes and fill this thread with all the best memories that Windows 7 had brought to us. Let it be a sweet end for a remarkable Operating System.
  6. Trying to install windows 7 on my M6700 because windows 10 is being ass (there's a whole thread on that here), if I leave the eGPU connected windows will bluescreen on boot or during installation with the error 'BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant'. Now it should be ACPI compliant but because of the eGPU and BIOS mods I am not surprised. I tried both UEFI and CSM (Legacy) boot modes and both have the same error. Any help would be appreciated, if I disconnect the eGPU between POST and booting windows 7 it works fine and Windows 10 works "fine".
  7. Hi All... After watching the latest WAN show and hearing Luke having issues with StreamDeck and older Windows versions, I decided to whip up a quick compatibility tool for running StreamDeck on Windows7/8. Why doesn't StreamDeck work on older windows versions?: StreamDeck is built against the Visual Studio 2017 'Minimal' runtime, which includes 'Shims' for certain api calls, since this is one of the newer runtimes, it contains a few functions which aren't available on Windows 7 or 8.1 out of the box. The runtime is required when building C++/Native applications using Visual Studio. How does the compatibility tool work?: First, it requires you to download the latest MSI installer for StreamDeck from Elgato's site (https://www.elgato.com/en/gaming/downloads). Then, it bootstraps the installer to allow for it to install onto your system. After installing, it will install the Visual Studio 2013 runtime (If not already installed). Finally, the bootstrap will place 3 'Shim' dlls into the StreamDeck folder, which wrap the functions required to run StreamDeck. The 'Shims' are linked against the older runtime and provide workarounds for the various missing API calls. Notes: If you have StreamDeck 'partially installed' from a previous attempt on your older OS, uninstall it first. Extract the zip archive first before running the tool. This is currently working as of 6/16/2018, should compatibility break again, hit me up with a message. Please note that this is in no way endorsed by Elgato and in addition, is provided AS-IS with no warranty provided. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. That being said, If you do give it a go, please post your results here. I have only tested the tool on Windows 7 (64bit, which is required anyways). However I do not see any compatibility issues with 8.1 using the same method... StreamDeckCompat.zip
  8. I currently am working for an IT firm that works specifically for dental offices. We have been in the process of replacing/upgrading old Win7 workstations to new Win10 machines to be up to date with HIPAA compliancy. With the workstations that only require an upgrade from Win7 to Win10 our office has been purchasing new Win10 keys to activate the upgraded workstations. I am fairly new to the company, and I realized on a job one day that we may not need these new Win10 keys in order to activate the license. Sure enough each of the old workstations that I upgraded to Win10 did indeed activate through Windows just fine with no new key required. My question is asking whether or not it is still necessary to purchase Win10 keys in 2019 to upgrade old Win7 computers? I know Win10 upgrades were free for a year when it was released, then Microsoft made it a paid upgrade after that. However I have never had a problem upgrading Win7 to 10 and the license not activating through Windows. Will I come across a problem if my company does not purchase any new Win10 keys? Any insight or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!
  9. Hello, can you please help me. I am having problems regarding my RDP. The options at Performance section is missing "Detect Connection Quality Automatically" Where or how can I download that?
  10. I'm having this issue of my "F" not working. It started happening two days ago. I was typing in Microsoft word and suddenly my "F" was not registering. I pulled my F key from keyboard and gave it a clean up, I thought it was dust. It still didn't work. I restarted my laptop and F was working fine now, I thought it was a bug. Now again, I was surfing the web that suddenly F key stopped working again. I noticed it was working in my media player as a action but was not typing in any application or browser. I launched On-Screen keyboard, to my conscious, Windows was not registering F key, Though the physical aspect of fault is dismissed. Then I noticed that I have recently updated my windows and it started happening right after that. I defaulted my keyboard settings. Updated my drivers but windows is still refusing to register "F" key until and unless I restarted my laptop. I don't turn off my laptop every time I close it, so it is very annoying for me to save all my work, restart my laptop and do the work again. I have tried every troubleshoot, but restarting is the only option. If anyone else is having the same problem and have a solution for it, I will appreciate it. I'm afraid in future if another key locks out that includes my password, I will be locked out from my system or restarting wont fix the issue one day. I have tried, Virtual keyboard, Bluetooth keyboard, external wired keyboard, laptop keyboard replacement, refreshing my windows, defaulting my settings, nothing works so far.
  11. Hey together, i've been fighting with freenas and 10gbe for a while now and sometimes it gives me hope while mostly it's depressing as hell. In my signature you can see the Boss-NAS i'm using. rn it's equipped with an Intel X540T2 10gbe network card. One port goes to the Netgear XS708E 10gbe Switch while the other one goes (for testing purposes) to another Intel X540T2 in my Test-PC that has an i5 2500K and some MX500 SSD or whatever and runs Windows 7. The other port of this PC also goes to the same switch as the FreeNAS goes. Theoretically i'd have two separate 10GBe connections now but in the real world it's nothing like that. Doing Iperf (as well as Crystal Disk Marks to the RAID0 SSD's or the NVMe SSD) it gives me ~3.5gbe on the read side and 8.5gbe on the write side. That isn't reflected in real work perfomance either but i think the issue here is probably the SSD in the test PC. Here's the iperf i did: first one is PC client p2p second PC client over switch third PC server p2p fourth PC server over switch As you can see it doesn't matter if it's connected p2p or through the switch, read's always s*ck while writes show there is enough bandwidth actually. I DID get a real 10gbe connection between the PC's once with a p2p SFP+ connection where i could see my RAID0 SSD's going to full 1gb/s in both reads and writes but now that i've "upgraded" to a full 10gbe RJ45 environment everything seems to be collabsing. I DID also enable MTU 9000 on both ends just not the switch as that apparently has that set automatically and i can't find it anywhere in the setup. Even worse is the fact that my other PC, a 2600K with X540T2 and Windows 10 doesn't even remotely reach that but stays at 3gbe in both directions, even just from PC to PC without the NAS (switch in between obviously) So please, does anyone ( @Windows7ge) have an idea why everything is to terrible? lol. EDIT: What i think i'll try next is connecting the freenas with my SFP+ Card to the single SFP+ Port on the Switch and from there go with RJ45 to the X540T2's on the Test PC, as SFP+ once upon a time gave me 10gbe.
  12. Friend asked me for help to revive his laptop, his hdd died months ago and replaced it with a blank one. got him a bootable Windows 10 USB Flash drive to do the reformat created a GPT partition with 180GB. upon installing the said OS it should restart automaticall to begin the actual installation, but that's not the case for this laptop, it gets stuck here. see: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZyDnHFx8np96kaXk6 I pressed ctrl+alt+del to force a restart. went into the bios via F2 and saw only the HDD and DVD drive but I did saw Windows Boot Manager in the boot override list which as far as I know shouldn't be there. I restarted it again with the hdd still on 1st boot. still nothing it gets stuck with the blinking cursor I took out the only hdd and powered it back up and Windows Boot Manager is still in the list of the override I think it's one of the cause of the problem. not quite sure how to troubleshoot this since it's my first time encountering such issue.

  16. Hi Guys! For about 2 months now, I am having issues withy my W7 64 Bit computer. Recently it's getting a lot warmer than it used to be, and now it's getting slower. It's booting up fast, however, once it enters W7, it is slowing down and uses around 60% CPU when idling. As far as I can see, all drivers are up to date (Bios, GPU, et cetera). Here are the Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit Intel I5 4960K Devil's Canyon Quad Core 3,5 GHz 32GB Corsair XMS3 (4x8GB) 240pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 2x EVGA GTX 970 2GB Gaming w/ACX 2.0+ (with Medium SLI Bridge) MSI Z97S SLI PLUS Samsumg840 EVO SSD 500gb (With W7 installed) WD 2TB 7200RPM HDD EVGA SuperNova G1 650W 80+Gold 4x Corsair ML120 Fans Malware Antibytes and MSE found nothing, I've put the Intel Procesor Diagnostic Tool into a Burn-In test, and the first one was failed (Message was "Check Thermal Compound), however, a 2nd test passes just fine. Recently I had several event 43 errors with the old PSU (Seasonic 750W), but this ended after I installed the EVGA PSU. shortly after that, the new problems started. I have ordered new thermal compound and I am awaiting the arrival of it. Any suggestions?

  18. I just reinstalled windows 7 onto my computer after my old drive failed. For more storage alongside my boot drive (4x 240gb kingston a400 ssds in raid 10), I installed a 500 gb crucial p1 nvme ssd in a m.2 to pcie card, and after I installed windows and went to disk management to format the drive it doesn't show up. I don't know know if there is any settings i have to change or any drivers I have to download. I've tried to research how to make it show up, but I haven't been able to find a solution, so I thought I'd ask here. Any help would be appreciated. Specs: Cpus: 2x Intel xeon e5 2660 motherboard: It doesn't have a model number that I can find, but it comes with the lenovo d30 4223 ram: 64 gb ecc 1333 ddr3 gpus: amd rx 580, nvidia gtx 470 storage: crucial p1 500gb sdd, 1tb wd black, 4x 240gb kingston a400 ssd in raid 10 psu: delta electronics 1100 watt 80+ gold
  19. Is windows 7 worth it in 2018? Since windows 10 got cortana using my memory and cpu for no reason even after i turned it off will windows 7 (64bit) be faster? And i don't need microsoft installing games in my pc without asking me and stealing my privacy ;-;
  20. I am currently on windows 10 and have a bootable usb for a windows 7 install. When I boot off of the usb I go through the installation process and get to the partition and formatting of my hard drive. I can see my primary hard drive that already has windows 10 installed on it, it does not make me format the hard drive and acts as if I can install windows 7 to it without formatting it. Will this cause any problems or am I safe to not format the hard drive? Also, will I retain my drivers?
  21. Okay so I have a laptop (toshiba satellite P755-S5382) that has some pretty good on board speakers with one glaring issue. That is that even though they can rock the lower frequencies rather comfortably without any noticeable distortion via. a line in. But when actually listening to any audio coming from windows itself their seems to be some kind of software that makes it to where the frequencies that it plays are on a curve. To put it simply, it's like the computer is handicapping itself by not allowing full utilization of the range of the speakers, imagine if somebody took an EQ and turned down the lower frequencies, that's how it's acting. Now to go through the canned responses, yes I have gone through and disabled all the sound modifiers in windows and in the Realtek audio drivers and to no avail. But there is one way I was hoping I could go about it. You see, through the line in/mic the limit on the lower frequencies is not present, and the limit is also not present on the headphone jack. So what I was wondering is if I could take the system audio and pipe it through the headphone jack which would then go to the line in where the audio from the line in would then be played through the speakers. So basically what I am asking is, can I make it to where my system audio plays through one output while my onboard speakers play from a line in?
  22. Hey guys, i have 8 old dell computers and i want to make put 4 of them together and make a cluster computer. I don't want to use Linix, i was wondering if anyone could help me set it up? If you need any more information let me know!
  23. Hey guys, I've been battling an error with installing windows for the past day and a half. I've never had this issue spiral out of control so badly... I'm making a fresh install of Windows 7, onto my new SSD (Samsung 850 Pro) via USB. No matter what I've done so far I fall into the following error:- "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information." I have done the following:- http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/314463-fresh-install-windows-7-driver-problems/ DISKPART = Countless times Converted the HDD to MBR Disk - though CMD in the Windows install (Ctrl + F10) Only running SSD and USB Completely changed SATA Cable Swapped SATA Cables (with another cable) Checked if my Bios is Legacy or not Reset my BIOS (removing the battery) Swapped USB to another location eg:- http://druss.co/2013/10/fix-error-during-installing-windows-7-from-usb-setup-was-unable-to-create-a-system-partition-or-locate-an-existing-partition/ 1) When you see the error – remove the flash drive from the computer 2) Press exit (red cross in the top right corner) 3) Start installation from the beginning (without reboot) 4) After selecting Windows 7 edition you will get new error - (cant get past this point, without plugging the usb back in. However the error returns) 5) Press OK in error window, you will be redirected to installation main menu 6) Insert your USB Flash drive in to the computer 7) Install windows I'm out of ideas, and frustration is takings its toll. - Any help will be greatly appreciated!
  24. So I have completely lost all audio on my Windows 7 machine after installing the Nvidia Geforce Experience and additional drivers. The version of Nvidia Geforce Experience is: 2.5.12.11 The version of the Nvidia HD Audio is: 1.3.34.3 Things I have done to fix this: -Uninstall Geforce Experience and all the drivers (including the HD audio one) -Checked AVG's virus vault for any files that may have not been downloaded for protection (no files here) -Double checked my Logitech Z506 speakers are all correctly plugged in and working (these are brand new too) -Restarted computer -Checked my speakers are the default audio output -Disabled other audio outputs other than my speakers -Attempted to rollback driver version (option greyed out and couldn't be done) and update driver (which resulted in an alert saying the best driver option is already installed) UPDATE: After installing Realtek audio I have managed to gain audio back but only if i plug my headphones in. It should be noted that there was sound before this download and install earlier today. This is why I highly doubt that it is anything A Driver issue. Could anybody help me out?
