Hi, I wanted to build a sleeper in this case but needed to get the pictures from it. It still starts but won’t find an operating system. Is there supposed to be a hard drive here (See picture 2)? Or where is the data stored and can I still get to it. Also the second CD-“slot” doesn’t work for a reason. I got the pc from someone so don’t know a lot about it, except for it being a “Compaq Presario 5000.”Also, it was made before I was born so I don’t have experience with that kind of tech ;).

Simple Questions Regarding The Viability & The Overall Market For Such Computer's: Firstly, thanks so very much for sharing your opinions and thoughts on everything and for helping me to find out if it is viable for me to go ahead with sharing the computer's I make for my little hobby of building old vintage PC's with others. My real question is whether it would be viable to proceed with selling old & vintage Computers I build using parts that are as close to new or new old stock as possible. The OS I would mainly be using is Windows XP. What do people think when it comes to the market being big enough & if people would be willing to pay a small to medium premium for me to cover my parts costs, sales fee's, postage costs & very importantly my time that it takes to source the parts, build the Computer's and all the time listing the PC's, communicating with customers and packaging the PC's etc? If anyone has anything at all they can add, even thing or questions I haven't thought to ask, that would be appreciated so very much Thanks again in advance

I have an old Radeon HD 6790 with no DirectX support, but because i had previously installed an RX580 in my PC(wich has nothing todo with my Question). When i run Programms like Photoshop or Forza Horizon 4 on my PC it says on Forza "Thanks for Purchasing Forza Horizon 4, we are sorry to tell you that your PC has no graphics card that supports DirectX12 and in Photoshop it just says: "You can´t continue cause of a Program error", but it worked on my RX580, is there any way to still use Photoshop or to Emulate DirectX12 on my old Graphics Card(cause my RX580 broke), i really need Photoshop and i can´t work without it, in the meanwhile i use Gimp. P.S. I have Photoshop 2021 with the newest update. Systemspecks are as Following: CPU:AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 6790 RAM:Corsair Vengance 16GB(Two 8 GB sticks) 3066MHz Mainboard:Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2 CPU-Z/GPU-Z info is attached

Recently, I have started to collect vintage computer chips and CPUs, where some have a gold top/cap. I was just curious if there was a technical reason to it, like RF or heat transfer, or was it just aesthetics?

When cleaning out my basement, I found my mom’s old pc from the 1990’s. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the only repairs it needed was that it needed new thermal paste and a hard drive. Would it be worth it to repair this and resell it?

Hello! I have a problem with my headphones. I can't find any information about the model, though. (Model is Sony MDR-CD170) They are quite old, but they serve me well. Recently, the sound started being distorted (or just stop entirely) from the left or right headphone (mostly the right one) and I noticed that the cable on the right headphone had become loosy. I have to push the cable in so the sound could return to normal. But as I said, it's loosy and it falls down back; therefore, the problem isn't being solved. I read more about this problem and I found out that I have to disassemble the headphone entirely (remove the ear cup entirely, open the speaker, find the problem in the cable and solder it), but I am not sure if I can do that. I can't remove the ear cups. I have the feeling that if I remove them, I can't put them back again.

I thought a fun Christmas project would be the resurrection of the the old family computer, a ‘Gateway Performance AS 650 tb3’ desktop. To give some back story, about a year ago I dusted off the internal components, when I put the computer back together it booted fine but crashed a few seconds latter. Now all I get when I turn it on are beeps codes. The code specifically states that ‘the video card is faulty or not installed, or an external ROM module does not properly checksum to zero’. So I have a few questions: 1) Given the age of this machine how do I know what replacement GPU’s are compatible? 2) If it is the ROM module that’s fizzled, how do fix that? 3) I’ve been unable to find a PDF manual for the computer anywhere on the internet, was hoping someone could help me with that? ~Thanks in advance for any help I get on this.

Photoshop has been around for so long that it’s synonymous with photo editing - So much so that Corridor Digital thinks they can do it with ANY version. Let's put that to the test... Check out Corridor Digital's video: https://youtu.be/8LkUzVexLTU

This is what the inside of this computer looks like. -
This post might be more popular with the older crowd. Many of these items were in a moving box within smaller boxes, this ended up being a mess to sort through for disposal and potential re-use. Decided upon less photos as some vintage computing users might go nuts seeing a stack of 5.25 floppies in a disposal pile. I don't throw out failed 5.25 floppies, they're re-used for art or custom CD cases for indie bands. Found a box of floppies in various sizes, if I recall that 3M 500K floppy was from a set of disks I used in childhood sometime around the C64/Apple II era and those McAfee VirusScan disks were when my school had a virus outbreak in their Novell WordPerfect PC lab--why I kept that floppy set, they can be erased and reused like I've done with past AOL floppies. In another bin I had even more Double-Density 720K floppies that are packed to be shipped to the UK, a friend still uses my old Amiga 1200. It was common to use portable HDD cartridges by SyQuest which were really Conner platters in a cartridge with just a single usable magnetic side, the EzFlyer 135 MB was designed to compete with the Iomega Zip and the 230 MB drive made removable storage affordable($30 back in 1996, 135 MB cartridges were reasonable at $15). SyQuest drives were unique as they ran between 3200-4000 RPM depending upon the series/generation(they made 5.25" & 3.5" cartridge drives), plenty fast enough for MIDI synth audio banks/recording your own mix arrangements, in graphic design they were common to transfer files without lugging a heavy external SCSI or Parallel Port HDD around, I actually used cartridges to boot minimal installs of DOS+Windows and MacOS 7.6(PowerMac 7300) if I needed to run a program which wanted more memory. Reliability of SyQuest pre-SparQ were reasonable, however the SparQ like SyJet was prone to head crashes destroying any inserted storage media which were just as bad as Iomega's Zip click-of-death killing Zip cartridges--SyQuest went bankrupt in 1998, ex-SyQuest engineers later formed Castlewood to release the Orb which suffered a similar reliability nightmare. An old 1GB Western Digital drive, last I recall this drive was pulled from my 486 in 1997 and last spun up in 2002 in a Pentium III... more of a desk paperweight which I originally planned to reuse the platters for a turbine project. Drives after 2003 shifted to glass platters, I think Western Digital was the last to stop using metal platters--encountered a few 80-120GB drives with older platters built in 2004. When the underside of drives were still exposed and at risk of damage if you weren't careful... 30-Pin RAM: Haven't actively supported any system using this RAM since 2002, these are my leftover test bench sticks. At one point I had over 80 1MB sticks, thankfully vintage computing allowed that stockpile to shrink. Most unlikely clients I've had were Ham Radio operators using old systems for custom controllers handling automated analog/digital recording deck solutions.

Couldn't resist taking a photo of the card and the box. This was originally in my former Pentium III 550Mhz desktop, if I recall this card was last used in my Athlon 64 before I got my hands on a GeForce 6600GT.

Hello, world!!! I got an HP Omnibook 800CT (F1360A) laptop from my dad for birthday. Device specifications: Motherboard - F1360-80001 REV A (LOT No.174121) Processor - Pentium 166MMX Hard disk - 1 GB Chipset - VLSI Eagle II Video Adapter - NeoMagic MagicGraph 128ZV 2MB RAM - 48 MB RAM (16 MB + 32 MB KTH-0B800/32 Kingston) This sub-notebook is very dear to me, so I decided to write an appeal. I interested in various components and software: Drivers/Programs/BIOS for this device Original battery HP F1119A 64 MB RAM Laptop body (or 3D printing HP Omnibook 800CT case) P.S. I have been trying to find components and circuits for this device for a long time. I contacted the manufacturer, there was no response yet. It will be very interesting to restore it and additionally add a PATA SSD (8GB) for comfortable operation. P.P.S. I would be grateful for possible solutions and help. I will also add some photos of this miracle.

There was a point in time where I thought PC parts would always be around. And to an extent they have been, Shortages aside. But during the actual onslaught of technical progression many products rise and fall to the wayside. Some of these products are One-offs, Limited production, or cut early due to poor sales. Now days these discontinued products are slowly starting to see a new appreciation in value. The product I'm talking about is the Thermaltake Pacific PR2U 5.25" Dual Bay Reservoir [https://www.thermaltake.com/pacific-pr2u.html]. When the time came to build my Water cooling loop I knew that I didn't want a Cylindrical Reservoir. To me, they seemed basic and kind of tacky. I wanted something that would make my computer more unique. I've always loved 5.25" Bay reservoirs, even from a young age. Although I thoroughly missed the time when '5.25" Bays were in vogue' I spent many days searching for the right one. To no avail could I find anything that was actually Available at the time and had my required feature-set. I eventually found the Thermaltake 5.25" Dual Bay Reservoir on Amazon in early 2021. I ordered it and a few days later it arrived at my house. I had to wait a few more days to get the rest of my parts. Once everything arrived I mocked up everything cleaned, built, ran the loop outside of the computer to verify everything worked. I'm glad I did so as I found there was a leak on the inside of the Reservoir. (See the Spraying in the Picture and Video) Devastated at the fact of having to wait even longer for my loop to be finished, I drained the loop and broke everything down and put it all back. The next day I call up Thermaltake to redeem the warranty. (Thermaltake has some really good responsive warranty staff) They helped me through the steps as this was my first DOA Product. Moments later I obtained a shipping label and packed it up but, Thermaltake told me not to ship it just yet as they couldn't validate a replacement. "This is a discontinued product where not many were made. And even fewer were sold." A couple days go by and curiously I email them back. The person informed me that they were inventorying the warehouse. I asked for clarification and they responded with "We have 100's of employees working around the clock across all of our warehouses to find a valid replacement." At that moment I felt very special as I had the full power of Thermaltake searching for this Reservoir. I had a feeling they would find one. The next day they confirmed they found one and told me to ship the broken one. I'm convinced our packages crossed in the air as it took 5 days for the new one to come. And on the same day I got a delivery confirmation from Thermaltake. This Reservoir is pretty awesome. It was definitely worth everything. Looks sick and will continue to look sick for many years to come. Share your Old, Rare, or Discontinued Hardware Stories Below. 20210519_170419_Trim.mp4

one piece with lets say a broken keyboard or missing screen (but the rest working and complete) costs 20$ on ebay, you can turn 3 broken thinkpads into 2 working ones and pay 10 bucks more for new CPU (0.99$-2.99$, ebay or aliexpress) and ram (??$, 2x2GiB DDR2 667mhz or 2GiB+1GiB, it wont take more than 3) a complete T60 (especially with upgrades) goes for over 100 bucks on ebay, plus libreboot im able to sell one for up to 200$ i have a few docks laying around as well so you can turn them into nice little workstations at some point, all libreboot supporting thinkpads will die and people will pay a fortune for surviving ones, similar to rare model M keyboard variants like the M13. this is a tl;dr on how to get rich in a few years.

Has anyone successfully scanned the 2D Matrix on PIII-era CPU's? On P4's and up, I have success, revealing the ATPO of the CPU using a QR Code Reader app. On my 400MHz Celeron SL3A2, 1GHz PIII (Coppermine) SL52R, and both 866 MHz PIII Xeon SL3WW's, I cannot read the matrix. Any tips to read these?

Hello there! I am new to the forum. The main reason I made this account was so I could post this here. I am in desperate need to find and buy from someone an APEVIA X-CRUISER-BL case. I am aware that it ran out of stock a long time ago, so I am trying to see if I could buy it from someone around the world. Thank you!
