  1. Hi Guys, Let me start by saying I have a GTX970 and I know its an old card but it has served me well so far. I've been through Kets Definitive Maxwell II (2) vBIOS Modding guide and toolbox11's overclocking guide as well but I'm at a bit of a loss. The specific card I have is a Zotac GTX970 blower which has remained stock ever since I got it mainly because of the awful cooler design and how loud it gets. It's the only graphics card I've never overclocked. I generally push all my components to the max when I can. Recently the blower fan was annoying me at idle so I managed to pickup an arctic accelero xtreme IV for £20. My temps have dropped from 80c stock clocks at load to 49c and at idle its super quiet. I'm a bit of a tinkerer and bios modding doesn't scare me so I've had a go but I'm not really getting any different results. All I've changed are the power limits allowing the theoretical max hoping the card will maybe boost higher which it really doesn't The power supply is a hx520 with 6+2 cables but the card only takes two 6pin allowing for a theoretical max of 225w (pci-e slot plus 2 6 pins). GPU-Z seems to suggest my limiting factor is pwr so am I essentially screwed because of the max power draw when it comes to overclocking? When I put in a manual overclock on the core the card drops down to 1000mV which I can't explain either. I've seen in the guides to mod the voltage table around the clk65 mark but tbh my card doesn't seem to get past the clk43 mark. I've added images of maxwell bios tweaker and monitoring software at the stock state, increased power limit state and manual core clock overclock state. If anyone has any ideas that would be really helpful! Specs: i7 4790k 4.5gh@1.25v or 4.7@1.32v when gaming asrock z97e ac itx 16gb 1600mhz ram zotac gtx 970 blower with xtreme IV samsung 860 ssd corsair hx520
  2. just got a msi gtx 1080 armor liquid metaled and installed the arctic accelero extreme 3 on it so it never goes past 130F anf noticed the clocks and volts goin every where so i started graphing everything and discovered its power/volt limiting in and there bouncing benchmarks(superposition) but not in insurg sandstorm and escape from tarkov stable 2000mhz - 2100mhz 1.093v so i went searching my cards bios is limited to 210 watts!!!!! and i want to lift that without soldering a bypass resistor on the shunts so i found several 290watt vbios' and i cant tell if there compatible with my card why? since u know the freakin PCB and COMPONENTS are literally the same as the GAMING X!!!!!! FFS! my bios:https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/203811/msi-gtx1080-8192-180313-1 to be flashed:(one of them) https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/215266/msi-gtx1080-8192-170907 https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/205996/msi-gtx1080-8192-170907-1 i tried to upload my bios with gpu-z and someone beat me so i clicked "find compatible bios"
  3. Hello, as stated in my last topic (nobody answered me) my laptop doesn't seem to read the gpu, I guess a vbios mismatch from the previous owner. Does anyone know/have by any chance a backup vbios for the GTX 980M (10DE 1617 - 1028 0688) for the Alienware 17 R2? I can't find it on techpowerup vbios archive. Any help would be much appreciated!
  4. Hi, I tried my luck on pcmr subreddit but nothing came up - so I'm trying here. Here's a repost and a link to original one: Title is pretty much self explanatory. Recently I bought PNY RTX 2080 Super Triple Fan with serial number VCG20808STFPPB. This card is overall very nice - but support is nowhere to be found. Judging from PNY website - this model does not exist... Honestly I have no idea what should I think of it - but card itself is legit. The problem is hardware support and identification. For example PNY's software is unable to detect it well enough. Even tho this card has RGB I haven't found a program that would controll it properly. Also it seems I got lucky with the silicon lottery and both gpu and ram have a lot of room to be overclocked. Unfortunately cards power limit is hard locked at 250W. So now I'm looking for a different VBIOS to flash. To gain controll over all card functions and to hopefully strech power limit a bit. As far as I can tell, PCB and everything else on my model looks exactly the same as PNY RTX 2080 Super XLR8 Gaming Overclocked Edition with serial VCG20808STFPPB-O (or less likely VCG20808STFMPB-O). But to be honest those serial numbers are mismatched in many online shops - so I simply don't know which one would be safer. Probably the one without USB-C support (since my card doesn't have it). I've been looking for a BIOS from any XLR8 version, but was unable to find it. TechPowerUp database has no official PNY 2080 super BIOS roms. Two unoficial ones are from my card and from a blower version - which for sure will not work with triple fan design. I would appreciate if anyone could point me to a requested BIOS or provide it from owned GPU (possibly passed trough TechPowerUp upload). I'd appreciate any help P.S.: I tried contacting PNY local support - asking to at least identify my card and for some hints with its configuration trough external programs. Waiting for their answer.
  5. hi i have a problem with a r9 380 i got recently. the card was used for mining and had custom vbios. when i put it on my pc there was no video. but the pc did recognize the r9 so i flash the bios. the card now displays video but it has the wrong bios.. the card is a r9 380 4gb msi armor x2.ELPIDA mem version. i installed the gaming bios of the card.. i have been trying to get the original bios but no luck. not even on the powerup database.. so if someone has the same card with a working bios and is willing to share it will be appreciated. the card spesiffics - MSI R9 380 4GD5T OC //// S/N: 602-V314-17B1601000129 PC DELL 7010 INTEL I5 2400 8GB RAM 128GB SSD 1TB HDD
  6. Well pretty sure that you are aware that ventus cards have conservative power limiters 1660 super has 125w as max and target the card hits the limitter constantly my system is not that powerfull so cpu is the bottleneck most of the time but if I upgrade later will it make a difference to bump up the power limit with flashing "gaming x" vbios. And is it safe to do so enlighten me guys, plus I think this will make a good topic to discuss.
  7. I HAVE ONLY TESTED THIS ON MY K3000M, YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKED GPUS! (though usually these are fixable) THIS IS A BACKSTORY STYLE THING JUST SAYING HOW I DISCOVERED THESE VALUES, SCROLL DOWN FOR THE TUTORIAL So I was searching around for a simple tutorial on how to use Kepler BIOS tweaker to modify my Quadro's vBIOS and couldn't find anything, I tried changing default clocks, 3D clocks, turbo clocks, turbo tables, but nothing seemed to work so i found a modified vBIOS for a k5000m and opened both a stock k5000m image and the OCed one and compared which values were changed from stock. I noticed that certain things I hadn't thought of were changed. This worked fine on my K3000M but I have not guarantee if it works for others though I assume it should work for Kepler and because the values are present on Maxwell as well it might work. These screenshots show the original vBIOS (left) and modded one (right) for the k5000m. I noticed that instead of adjusting TDP Base Clock (which is what seemingly every youtube tutorial says to do) he enabled the 3D base clock and turbo clock by changing them to entry 2 and 3, then modifying the values. This still didn't work for me so I drove deeper and noticed that the GPC and XBAR values were set differently between the cards so I set these to the overclocked speed and it worked! Tutorial: Step 1 Download the required software: You need a copy of GPU-Z, maxwell or Kepler bios tweaker (depending on if your card is 600-700 series (Kepler) or 800-900 series (Maxwell)) and nvflash GPU-Z: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-gpu-z/ Kepler BIOS Tweaker: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/kepler-bios-tweaker/ (600-700 series cards) Maxwell II BIOS Tweaker: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/maxwell-ii-bios-tweaker/ (900 series cards and maybe 800 series? idk I can't seem to find a Maxwell I BIOS tweaker) NVflash: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-nvflash/ Step 2 Export your card's current BIOS: Open GPU-Z, you should see a little arrow coming of of a rectangle next to the BIOS Version box. Click it, it should prompt you to give it a name, Your screen might go black for a second THIS IS FINE! it needs to restart the GPU in order to save the image. Step 3 modifying the image: GPU-Z should have given you a .rom file. Open Kepler/Maxwell II BIOS tweaker, select 'open BIOS' at the bottom left and open the .rom file. You should be on the 'common' tab, on the left where is says 'Boost Clock' set that to your desired clock speed (KEEP IN MIND! you don't want to set this too high right away, you can still use MSI afterburner to add 135Mhz ON TOP OF the clocks you set!). IF the Boost Clock option is grayed out, set 3D Base Entry to 'Entry #1' and Boost Entry to 'Entry #2', this should enable the boost clock option. You can also modify the memory clock here but it's not recommend because MSI afterburner can also do this and it's very rare to see a GPU that can overclock it's memory past +1000Mhz Next go to the 'Boost Table' tab, at the bottom there is a slider, slide it to the same value you set the boost clock at on the common tab. Then go to the 'Boost States' tab, under the second 'P00 - Profile' block (if you only have 1 idk, it probably would work setting the 1st one, but I haven't tried it) in the second column there are 2 values 'GPC' and 'XBAR', set BOTH of these to the same value as the 'boost clock' and 'boost table' slider. Hit 'Save BIOS As' (I recommend saving as a separate file just in case you need to flash the original vBIOS later on) Step 4 Flashing the modified BIOS: Open the zip of NVflash you downloaded and extract it to a directory (I recommend something simple like C:\vBIOSmods\ etc.) Copy your modified .rom file that you got from the BIOS tweaker to the same folder as NVflash. open device manage, go to display adapters and disable your GPU (the screen will go black for a second and if you have multiple monitors they might not all come back on, don't worry this is only temporary while the GPU is disabled.) open an Administrator Command Prompt and CD to the folder with NVflash and the rom file The commands are slightly different depending on if you are on 32 bit or 64 bit windows and if you have more than 1 Nvidia GPU in the system. replace ROM FILE with the name of the modified .rom file: if you are on 32 bit windows with a single Nvidia GPU type: NVflash -6 "ROM FILE" if you are on 64 bit windows with a single Nvidia GPU type: NVflash64 -6 "ROM FILE" if you are on 32 bit windows with a multiple Nvidia GPU type: NVflash --index-0 -6 "ROM FILE" if you are on 64 bit windows with a multiple Nvidia GPU type: NVflash64 --index-0 -6 "ROM FILE" MAKE SURE IT DISPLAYS THE CORRECT GPU ON THIS SCREEN: IF IT DOES NOT, change '--index-0' to '--index-1' and keep going until it displays the correct GPU! Once you see matching values on that screen, press y to begin the flash. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER WHILE IT IS FLASHING! If there is an error during the flash and you see ANYTHING other than 'Flash Successful!' Keep retrying to flash, DO NOT REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER, IF YOU CANNOT GET IT TO FLASH THE MODIFIED IMAGE ALWAYS FLASH THE STOCK IMAGE BEFORE REBOOTING! After this you're done! once it says 'Flash Successful!' you can go into device manager and re-enable your GPU and reboot your machine. After that your GPU should be running at the clock speed you set. If you have any questions, suggestions, or see something I did wrong post a comment!
  8. My GPU has been experiencing some really strange problems. I know it's the GPU, because the problem isn't present with another AMD GPU. So basically everytime my PC isn't shut down properly will result in artifacts when I boot it up next time, even if I cut off the power to the PSU and wait for a while. Like it remembers it. Fixing it sounds quite simple, but it's actually not... To fix it I simply have to boot it up (with artifacts or not) and shut it down through windows. I won't have any artifacts next time when I shut it down through windows. However, with the artifacts my PC is so unstable that I'll take like 5 tries to get into windows, I'll just lock up (freeze) so badly that I can't get into windows and shut it down properly. Also when my PC doesn't have artifacts there is still a chance that it freezes 15 minutes into a game, which requires me to reset it and this results in artifacts again. (It's more stable without artifacts) The artifacts are also not too extreme. They don't fill the entire screen most of the time. Sometimes it's also not only blocks, but like a massive blue triable that covers my screen briefly. I've also seen it cause changes to colors in windows, for example: it once changed the windows progress bar (when launching Steam) from Green into blue. What have I tried: - Reinstall windows 10; - Reflash the vbios; - Try a different bios (my GPU has 2); - Different drivers; - Different GPU (fixed it), but I would like my R9 290x back. TL;DR R9 290x wants to be shut down properly. It won't stop giving me artifacts until I manage to boot into windows and shut down. Cutting the power won't even fix it. Card is also very unstable and locks up my computer often.

So I bought a second hand SAPPHIRE PULSE ITX RX 570 4GB GPU (I don't know if it's been mined on or even have a custom bios flashed on to it) and it has this annoying issue where the fan speeds come down very slowly. If the card undergoes load the temperature and fans stabilise at 78/79 degrees C and 3600RPM fan speed, but then as soon as the load is taken off the temperature goes down to 40 degrees C, but the fan speed is still very high. It then takes 10 minutes to drop down to 35 degrees C and 3000 RPM on the fans. ...and probably most annoying of all the GPU seems to jump from 0 rpm straight to to a high rpm when the temperature fluctuates between two discrete temperature values. From a fresh boot and no load on the GPU the fan speeds are very low.In the past, other cards that I've used have their fan speeds and temps drop at the same rate, but not this one for some reason.
  10. Hey guys, I'm new to the LTT forum - I did use google and the search function and did not find anything useful. I am the proud owner of an ASUS R9 390X DirectCU II. I had a few problems that could be caused by the card (game crashes and so on) and looked over at techpowerup for a newer VBIOS. I found this https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/183551/asus-r9390x-8192-151110 which is for the very similar STRIX version. Currently this (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/173754/asus-r9390x-8192-150428) is flashed. My questions are: can I even update the VBIOS of this card and if yes, can I update it to this version? Can I go back? Could I break the card? And would it be useful if I liquid-metaled the card? (I have some lying around.) EDIT: Some specs of my PC if needed: i7 3770k @ 4,5GHz (stable) - watercooled (240mm Radiator) 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz RAM @ 1800 (stable too) Windows running off of a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB Windows 10 1809 - Fully updated AMD Driver 19.2.1 Best regards and thanks in advance Coin
  11. Hey guys,so i have a gigabyte r9 270x which has had the flickering screen issue since the day i bought it over a year ago and i want to get rid of it.Basically i want to know if i should try updating the VBIOS or not as i've heard it can kill your GPU.The current Vbios on the card is F1 and i'd try to do it through Gigabyte's OC Guru II which has a "Auto update" feature for the Vbios. Also does it auto detect which is the correct one or do i have to look for that myself as i read on Gigabyte's website that you can only do certain vbios' on certain of the same cards (it says on their website that:You can only update to a VBIOS version of the same series. If your VBIOS version is: F1, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F2-F9. F10, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F11-F19. F20, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F21-F29.).The GPU now belongs to my brother so i need to know for sure if it's safe. Also do you guys think i could RMA it because of this issue? Example of what i'm talking about:
  12. I've recently gained an interest in doing some flashing of my VGA BIOS lately. I have the software and such, and I've been snooping around to see what I can find. Primarily, I'm looking to squeeze more power out of my card, a Gigabyte GTX 650 Ti, by raising the voltage. Yes, I understand it's a huge risk. Yes, I understand it's not something to be done regularly. I get that. I just have a few questions: -To my understanding, you can flash similar vBIOS ROMs to a card, which will trick the card into thinking it's a different card in the series. In my case, I could take the vBIOS from a Gigabyte 650 Ti Boost or a 660, then the BIOS would "unlock" disabled cores etc. and increase the TDP, theoretically. Is this correct? Or am I missing something? -If the above were to be true, the only vBIOS ROMs that I could find are 2 GB VRAM modules, in which my card has 1. Does the BIOS have any affiliation with this? Could I flash that no problem? Thanks for stopping by.
  13. I know it doesn't sound like a good idea to begin with, but I'm wondering if anyone has the experience of what happens if you switch the vBIOS while the card is still running normally in your system? Thanks.
  14. Hi, guys After i got many answer on my previous thread, I just realized my Motherboard only support old BIOS(Legacy i think) It's a bit irritating me because latest gpu card only support UEFI BIOS. I've looked some GTX 1000 series that support Legacy/UEFI Compatibility but i didn't get any:/ Perhaps anyone here knows which brand that has Legacy/UEFI vBIOS Switch on GTX 1060/1050TI,RX 580/RX 480/RX 570 ? Please let me know by put it in the comment if you know/have it^^ Thanks My Poteto w/ Annoying Double-Clicky Mouse :v
  15. Does anybody have a Zotac E-Series EN1070K that can save the vbios from gpu-z and share it with me. I accidentally flashed a bad custom and it's not recognizing the 1070 anymore.
  16. Hello! Full problem and explanation (kinda irrelevant, but I thought someone may ask why flashing): I'm having some bizarre problens lately with my RX 580 (8GB Sapphire Pulse).Under specific games, when there's an intense GPU use but then suddenly relief (ex: intense racing, then flashback in F1 2018; after screen game results in PES2018) GPU fans go full spin and screen goes black. Also, on other applications, when fans ramp up to speed, they sometimes don't slow down. Then, PC boots without video. Only works again if i reseat the card on PCIe slot. Now, all I could find out about it: Only happens in some games, it does fine on torture tests; Temps are ok, around 70°; Reapplied termal paste on die (just the chip, not the vrms); Was happening on old rig, upgrading platform didn't help; Cables are OK; And a lot of other possible fixes. So, I'm thinking about flashing the VBIOS as it maybe corrupt. Thing is, there are 2 bios available for that card. And the question I ask you is this: TL;DR: What bios should I update? Both from techpowerup, both for the same card. Never flashed GPU BIOS before, so if you guys could help, I'd really appreciate! I apologize if I violated any rule here, I'm fairly new to forums and all that stuff... Thanks!
  17. Hi there I've a rather old graphics card but as my screen "isn't that new" either it worked fine on most games. Now I changed my screen and the card showed it's limits. It's stil playable but just a little more power would be nice. Hence I tried overclocking it. I'm totally new to this so I just downloaded msi afterburner, cinebench and 3Dmark. I managed to raise my clockspeed to 860MHHz before getting artefacts. But the temperature is still stable at under 70°C. So to get higher clockspeeds without artefacts I'd have to raise the voltage right? However everytime I raise it and click apply it goes back to 1025mV. Lowering it doesn't work either. I looked up how to get an unlocked bios in case thats the problem however I couldn't find much. Now I've been trying to modify the bios myself with GPU-Z and NiBiTor but NiBiTor doesn't support this card. Is a locked graphics card really the problem I'm having or are there some settiings in afterburner I might check out first? And if the card is locked how do I change that? I hope somebody can help I don't wanna buy a new card for an old pc... Konny
  18. Just wondering how well it is or should I just vbios it to a vega 64? Bearing in mind it's my first time ocing and undervolt it. Never done it before but it runs stable (about a week now). Edit post just realsied the image was blurry. Updated with new ones.
  19. Can someone help me out? I got an old gtx 660ti from a friend of mine. Most of the time the card works fine but the gpu overclocks somtimes into the 2000Hz (somtimes even peaks @ 2200). Base-boost-clock is about 1111Hz. As a result the card sometimes thermalthrottles and gets hot with degrees of 80-90 °C. Don t forget it´s an nvidiacard oO. This issue even happens when i run msi-afterburner and reset everything to default! I figured out that no other components were damaged! So i decided to reset the cards vbios to the factory bios. When i boot ATIflash i can´t flash the card. An error accurs "Adapter not found" - Note: I already used CMOS to reset my motherboard to default. Does anyone know how i can get around this?
  20. So, for some reason, I decided to flash my 7970 to a random (some what) VBIOS. I make a bootable thumb drive, put atiflash and the new rom on it, and booted to it. Once I was there, I used the command atiflash -f -p 0 new.rom. It went through and everything was good. It told be to reboot and the flash would be complete. So I hit the reset button and it booted with no video. What did I do wrong? I've installed another graphics card, booted to the same FreeDOS and used similar commands (but with -p 1 because that's where the card was). I get the same success message, but same issue. Thanks for the help, I know I probably shouldn't have even thought of flashing the VBIOS, but I couldn't resist.
  21. Looking for a good v bios for a ftw 1080 want to find one that helps with the power limit. Anyone out there the help is appreciated
  22. Hello i just got a rx 470D from taobao and i cant find the proper bios for it . ti think it is flashed for mining bios and the clocs show to high in default. i can really is it in firestreik combined benchmark, and tom clancy wildlands built in benchmark it jump all round gpu usage form 0 to 100% all the time
  23. I just flashed my gaming laptop (GTX 970m) with an unlocked vbios. I found a stable overclock and tested it on Heaven Benchmark and everything went fine. (+200 MHz Core / +700 MHz Memory / +137.5 mV / @ ≈ 80 C)HOWEVER, when I play a game (Overwatch), the GPU core speed fluctuates between the overclock speed and normal clock speed. I noticed that whenever this happens MSI Afterburner displays a "no load limit" even though the game is still running and the GPU is 100% in use (as displayed by Afterburner). As a result, I get a significant drop in FPS and some weird lag with weird noises from my headphones.I tried to figure out which particular overclock offset caused the problem by setting the core speed to original clock at first then launch the game. Then I tried to reset the memory clock to original speed and tried once again. However, none of these helped me figure what caused the issue. The game runs smoothly ONLY when the clock speeds are set to the custom vbios offset (which is +126 on core speed ONLY).Any help would be appreciated
  24. I purchased a Zotac GTX 970 Extreme Core edition card a while back, and have just recently started overclocking it. http://www.zotac.com/products/graphics-cards/geforce-900-series/product/geforce-900-series/detail/geforce-gtx-970-amp-extreme-core-edition-zt-90107-10p/sort/starttime/order/DESC/amount/10/section/specifications.html The power limit won't go past 106%, and after speaking to the Zotac rep. I found that adjusting the voltage doesn't actually effect the stability of the overclock with the new way Nvidia cards handle voltage. Upon further investigation I have discovered the overclocking potential of this card to be entirely dependent on power limit, and not over-voltage. The sad part is, I'm only able to get the core to around 1.5 Ghz ( 1500 Mhz ) because the power limit only goes up to 106% in MSI afterburner and all other overclocking software I've tried. I booted up the default Vbios in Maxwell BIOS tweaker and saw this in the power section: What setting should I change to bump the power limit up to 115% or 120%?
