So recently I switched over to Fido's 150 mb plan, and went through a bunch of modem swaps, and ended up with the coda-4582u. So far while using this modem, my connection has been mostly stable, sometimes I'll still get unstable ping for periods of time, however there's been one really major issue that has been bugging me. Every so often, while in the middle of an online game, my internet will lag in such a way that I can hear my friends still talking in discord, see other players moving in the game for a while, but I can't move my character, and my friends can't hear me talking in discord (loading any new tabs and stuff also won't work). I'm assuming this issue is caused by something related to my computer and the online game since its only happened during my game, and if I close the game then the issue goes away very quickly. Closing and relaunching the same game will also resolve the issue, but I've tended to experience this issue once every day - every 2 days. When I switch between the 5g and 2.4g networks when the issue is occurring, it causes my pc to freeze up a lot for about 10-20 seconds before it connects to the internet, sometimes it will fail to connect as well. This issue causes my internet to crash throughout my whole house, as my phone will be unable to access internet during that time as well. I've called tech support about the issue and they say that they don't see any issues, so would anyone happen to know what might be happening? My pc uses a usb wifi adapter to connect to the internet (https://www.amazon.ca/BrosTrend-1200Mbps-Adapter-Wireless-Antennas/dp/B01IEU7UZ0/ref=asc_df_B01IEU7UZ0/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292901645034&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=96847767738704410&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000820&hvtargid=pla-377904052743&psc=1) and is configured with dns settings from 1.1.1.1 if that matters. I do plan on testing it with a different usb wifi adapter, however it is currently in shipping, and I also don't have any ways to connect my computer through ethernet since a powerline adapter cuts my download speed down to about a third of what it usually is over wifi.

I have a hitachi 44pin pata (ide) drive rated at 5v 1A, which I am trying to clone offline. all the parts mentioned below have been individually tested to work on their own. I have used this adapter to adapt the drive to sata https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085DJD9SQ Then from there, facilitated by this sata extension cable (with slight trimming of the housing of the dock-end) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FK63BTV I am trying to use the adapted drive with this usb dock fd2002 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N1KXE9K but with the fd2002 it is only momentarily detected [yet detected correctly] during power-up/power-down. If i use this usb dock's ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NAUIA6G ) sata connector instead of the fd2002 dock, the drive is detected as expected (yes i know this unitek dock has a 44pin pata connector, but that is irrelevant to what I am attempting to discover/learn). I bought this sata-data extension cable https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-SATA-7-Pin-Male-to-Female-Extension-Cable-FIA-L12R/280645965548 to be able to [with slight trimming of the housing of the extension cable end] use a secondary power supply to power the pata-to-sata adapter immediately connected to the pata drive (thinking that low amperage from the fd2002 to the pata-to-sata was the issue). which yielded the same symptom of the drive only appearing briefly during power-up/power-down (while also attempting every variation of power-on & connection ordering). so then I tried disconnecting the 3.3v line coming from the secondary power supply (being that neither the inateck [not working] nor the unitek [working] docks provide power on those pins), thinking it could be overwhelming the pata-to-sata adapter somehow, to no improvement. so I have ruled out power/connection-ordering, and ruled out low amperage. Voltages check out, and each item otherwise individually works. my current theory is the unitek adapter can access the adapted drive because it is otherwise able to connect pata drives. To support this, i have tried this external usb/sata enclosure https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M08LCXW in the roadmap of: enclosure > sata extension cable > sata-data extension cable > pata-to-sata adapter (powered by secondary power supply) > pata drive.. yielding the same result as seen with the fd2002 dock. Thoughts? The endgame is pata to pata offline cloning. This is necessitated by equipment that can not natively accept the addition of [cloning] software, and cloning the bootable drive outside of original equipment has yielded unusable results which are attributed to the drive/OS configuration. I do not know of any offline clone capable dock that is also pata. I would expect that not many have encountered this use-case before, but I would welcome any ideas. And no the original equipment cannot boot off of anything other than pata, and the original equipment cannot be upgraded. should amperage need to be revisited, that capability has been worked out here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1253066-the-meter-that-doesnt-exist-for-upgradingreplacing-old-drives the confrontation of this use-case may increase as owners/operators of specific systems realize that their equipment depends on drives of which the rate or mortality increases exponentially with advanced age.

Alright, so you know how most routers have a USB port that most people who use it use it for printers, NAS use with flash drives and external hard drives, and LTE connectivity. Considering that wireless routers with 2.5Gb ports cost so much, and with the knowledge even the slowest USB 3.0 ports are 5gbps, why haven't more people used their router's USB ports for plugging in 2.5Gbe and 5Gbe adapters? (my best guess would be that it wouldn't be directly connected to the switch chip) Hell it's to the point where I couldn't find any discussions or even pictures of the practice online.

usb adapter Slim USB 3.0 Type A to Type C adapter
MisterTechnik posted a topic in General Discussion
In today's LTT Video I saw an adapter like the one in the picture. I found it so cool, that I started thinking about, is there is something like this but with USB 3, the only thing I found was a USB 3 stick that's kinda slim, but not an type a port to type c adapter. So now the question, is there something like this? -
Hey LTT Community, currently i am looking for some portable storage for my daily use with my Dell XPS 15 L501x(with win 7 64 bit). I looked for usb 3.0 sticks which also would be able to use for os installation, but on amazon.de(i am from germany) there are lot comments about speed drops during usage(most of the time write speeds) and overheating issues(which kinda made me thinking). I also know about usb 3.0 Sata adapters for normal ssds or m.2 ssds(where my knowledge is not that big for example i read on win 7 m.2 ssds doesn't work properly over usb 3.0 adapters). So can you guys recommend me some products or tell me sth about the m.2 issue? For storage capacity questions i am looking for about 120gb

Hello, I have a high-end PC with a wifi adapter, because right now i have no way of plugging a cable into the PC (i will have a cable but it doesn't look like it's going to be soon enough). i experience some frameTIME (not frameRATE) spikes in ONLY ONLINE games, e.g. online mode in GRID 2, Rust, PUBG etc... i found somewhere on the internet that USB wifi adapters always tend to force top priority for the CPU, thus the CPU first does the adapter work and then renders the frame. Offline games work fine. Is there any way of getting a consistent frametime in online games with the adapter? P.S. MY LATENCY IS GOOD EVERY TIME, AROUND 50ms, SO PLEASE SPEAK TO THE TOPIC AND DON'T TALK ABOUT LATENCY. PC Specs: MSI Ventus RTX 2060 6GB OC GPU i5 9600k (stock speed) CPU 16GB 3000 RAM Patriot Burst 240GB SSD Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD MSI Tomahawk Z390 mobo Netis WF2190 wifi adapter Seasonic Focus Plus Gold - 650W PSU Windows 10 Home 64bit i'm attaching some MSI Afterburner logs. GRID 2 offline: GRID 2 online: Rust (capped to 74fps using RTSS):

I'm looking for a USB adapter (for now only to connect my phone, but also headphones in the future) and I was wondering if all of them work with aptX? Nothing specifies it in the descriptions, so I'm assuming aptX is only a thing on devices like headphones, and the receiving end doesn't matter?

Hi guys! I got a question and you peeps certainly know more about this than I do! I bought a Beyerdynamic Custom Game after doing quite a bit of research it seemed like a good headset for me! However, after using it and skyping I was fairly disappointed by the mic quality since it has a constant beeping static. I used to use a Logitech G930 which had way worse sound quality but the mic didn't give any noise or static to the people I would skype with. After wanting to just return in due to this issue I decided to give it a try on my laptop and phone and guess what... no static at all! So the problem most likely ain't with the mic of the headset. So I tried to think of why the Logitech might not have this issue and the main difference between the 2 is that the Logitech is a USB headset where the Custom Game issues a 3.5mm jack. Doing some more research n finding that static occurs a lot more in 3.5mm jacks then USB connections and looking even further I found this video. What do you guys think? is it worth it to buy a USB adapter like this and give it a shot? Or is there something else I should try before doing this? People also mentioned it might be due to a shitty onboard soundcard so for the sake of information the motherboard I got is an Asus X99-A, is this a motherboard that is known for static audio? Or does it have nothing to do with this? Thanks a bunch!

Hello, I am using a mini USB Wi-Fi adaptor to connect my desktop PC to the internet. I am always able to pick up the signal from the JioFi 3 router (details below). However, the Wi-Fi adaptor is not able to regularly pick up mobile (cell phone) hotspots; sometimes I can pick up the signal, sometimes not. The other mobiles (cell phones) can pick up these mobile (cell phone) hotspots, but not my PC (via the USB adaptor). I have tried both USB Wi-Fi adaptors, and I have tried Disabling/Enabling the USB Wireless LAN Card (in Network Connections). Would it help to change the USB Wi-Fi adaptor, say for a one with external antenna? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hello! Hello! I have a TP-LINK N900 usb adapter. It is capable to connect to 2.4 and 5 ghz wifi. I want to use it as access point in my PC. So my plan is to insert it to my pc and create a 5 GHz wifi connection between my phone and my computer that way i want a strong and wireless connection to stream VR content (RiftCat, VRIDGE) to my phone (Samsung galaxy s7 edge with GearVR). So my problem is that when I create that network it operate on 2.4. I tried a lot of things settings in device manager changing working channels in the registry but nothing helped me. So i ask for help here, maybe someone know a solution.

When using my laptop the WiFi I am often connect to blocks so much content it's almost unusable. I have an unlimited data plan with my sim card, but my laptop doesn't have a sim card slot. (Its a toshiba satellite with an upgraded 850 EVO SSD) What I want to do is be able to shut my phone off, remove the sim, and use it with my laptop. Is there a way to do this easily? I'm on AT&T and my phone is an S6 so I can't just make a hotspot sadly.

Hi guys, I have recently purchased a DS4 controller for my PC and it is working fine with a usb cable. However I would like to upgrade to wireless by a Bluetooth USB adapter but I heard that the controller is picky with the adapters, so if this is true than which would you guys recommend for me? Or is it just a myth?

Hey LTT. So my girlfriend and I are trying to get this Wireless adapter set up on her laptop. We have installed the drivers and utility but the computer is still using the onboard adapter and the utility closes every time we launch it. Does anyone have any experience with this or can give any advice?

Help! USB Wireless Adapter for Steam In-Home Streaming.
BallisticPeanut posted a topic in Networking
I want to try In-Home Streaming on my laptop, but I'm having a hard time picking out a usb adapter that isn't too expensive, but will still be reliable for streaming. The router I'm using is an ASUS RT-N56U so I am limited to 5Ghz Wireless N. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.- 5 replies

I couldn't find a thread relating to this problem so I decided to create one myself. My problem is quite unique compared to others. So, the problem is I have a NETGEAR WNA3100 N300 Wireless USB Adapter and it randomly drops me from my network when I have a full bar connection. But it doesn't just drop me, it says I have limited access. It sometimes happens when I am downloading something or that I'm just doing nothing at all. The device was getting pretty hot when this happened so I though it was just overheating, but to my knowledge, that wasn't the case. This next part is where I get confused and I'm hoping someone can enlighten me on what is happening. When this problem occurs, I can't do anything to fix it but hold the power button for 5 seconds and power the computer back up. I have tried going into my network connections and disabling my Wireless Network Connection and re-enabling it but when it goes to enable it, it will say enabling is a small little window and will stay there forever and never enable. When its trying to enable there is no stopping it, you cannot end task to end the process of it, it is stuck like that until I shut off my computer. Another thing I have tried is just simply unplugging the device and plugging it back in, but when I unplug it, it still says that that the device is still plugged in, that I have excellent connection, and that I still have limited access to the network. When I plug it back in, nothing happens, just back to where I started. There is one other thing that is weird is when I go to the Start Menu and choose Shut Down, Restart, or Sleep, they all try and turn the computer off but fail to do so resulting in an endless loading screen of "Windows is shutting down" or the sleep option is just a black screen but my computer never goes to sleep. All these options work properly if this problem with my USB adapter isn't occurring. So the only solution to when this happens is to hold my power button until my computer shuts off and power it back up. I have tried buying multiple new USB adapters, and they have all done the same thing, ruling out the chances of it being this adapter. This problem just started happening a few months ago and I have finally taken action to ask in a forum after so long. There were no changes in hardware, at the time or no new software downloaded, it just randomly started happening. This problem randomly occurs throughout the week, sometimes 1-3 times a day. If someone has a solution I will be very grateful. I'm am more leaning towards a motherboard or OS problem but I wanted to ask people who know what they are doing. Also this is my fist time creating a thread so feel free to tell me if I'm doing anything wrong and sorry for the formatting of the sentences, English is one of my weakest subjects.

Upgrading my wireless network from 2.4ghz single band wireless n to a dual band Wireless N setup and I'm looking for a USB adapter for upgrading my laptop to dual band. I would like the adapter to be rather small & compact so I can just leave it plugged in and work on both the 2.4 & 5ghz networks as some of the adapters I've been looking at were 802.11AC adapters that don't seem to support 5ghz 802.11N, only 2.4. Does anybody have any suggestions for a USB adapter that might be suitable?
