Hi there, would be nice to see an "Updated Version of the now 5-year-old Youtube Video "What Are DRAM-less SSDs?" from the channel " Techquickie", especially on the Topic on SLC Cache. Because a lot of manufacturers now sell them "With SLC Cache now", while leaving out the Dram Cache. (also on NVME M.2 SSDs) And I think "many" don't know what SLC Cache is, and maybe they think, that it resembles a conventional Dram Cache. Another Idea for the Video, if you could talk about "3D Nand", and SLC, MLC, TLC, QLC, and PLC would be nice. (even though you already talked about some of those in another Video.) But all in one in an updated version could be nice I guess.

Hey there! I saw Linus' videos telling that we should first clear out SSD or storage device of all data and then fill it up with junk before donating it. So, when in the modern times, we've got Storage devices of even 5Tb, is there any place where we can get 5TeraBytes of files?

I bought a Ryzen 5 4650G Pro processor with vega 7 GPU cores a few weeks back, because I wanted a good CPU and a decent iGPU at a reasonable price. I was just gonna build a normal System, but due to the current market situation, nearby vendors are charging me $800 for a RTX 3060 non Ti! I only play CS:GO so the APU was perfect for me. The only problem I had was that the iGPU only had 512mb of VRAM, which constantly filled up, leading to stutters. I thought i was basically screwed because I already ran CS:GO at an ungodly low res (1024x768) and there was no way i could increase VRAM. I even went lower to like 480p trying to see if it fixed the issue but nope. Still VRAM usage hovered around 492mb and stutters were common. That's when i saw this video. James explained that i can go into the BIOS settings to allocate more VRAM for the iGPU. I was shocked. I changed 512mb to 2GB and now, i don't have any stutters and i am getting 259fps on ullectical benchmark!! On an iGPU!! Once again, thankyou techquickie and James. TLDR; Techquickie episode fixed stutters in my game!

I am a novice in the tech world. A little bit of trip down memory lane, I started to dig deeper into computer-related topics when I found a Techquickie video on LTT YouTube channel page at around the end of 2019. My world has changed after that moment. I was a person who just tell myself "Okay, i7 is better than i5 and i5 is better than i3." and was very excited when my dad gave his i7-8250U 7500U laptop (ASUS Vivobook A442U/X442U) for an "upgrade" to my i3 laptop (later I know that it wasn't an upgrade since they have the same 2 cores). I also always asked myself "Hey, what is i7 counterpart in AMD?", googled it but never understands. Not like after I watched numerous Techquickie videos, now I understand that there are more than that when it comes to CPUs: clock speed, core & thread counts, TDP, cache etc. etc. Now onto the suggestion. After watching numerous videos, I noticed that Techquickie contents are just crammed in As Fast As Possible playlist. Meanwhile Linus Tech Tips channel has a playlist per video topic like video cards, peripherals, displays and monitors, CPUs, and so on. So I think that it is better for Techquickie to organize the playlist in a similar way, then people who want to learn a certain topic can go directly to the playlist and just "window shop" what they want to know instead of typing color depth techquickie , for example, on YouTube search bar. They might also can notice that a certain topic hasn't been created based on that topic and therefore suggest it for the next video. I hope this long post finds itself fit in the forum and can make to reality some day. I also would like to thank LMG team for everything that they work on.

The Arcologies video was pretty good. But I thought I would offer a link to a much more in depth look (30 minute video) that talks at length about the technical aspects of these things. It is followed up with a video about Ecumenopolis, (Planet scale cities). The channel I am linking is among my top 10 favorite youtube channels and I imagine that many people who are LTT fans would enjoy the Isaac Arthur channel as well!

First off, a message to any Mods/Admins that read this, I was unsure where this should go, so I am putting it here. If it is in the wrong area, my apologies. Just let me know where it is best to be placed. Secondly, I would love to see a video on American Megatrends. Yes, the people involved in the making of your PCs BIOS/UEFI that you see before you PC finishes POSTing. I always see their logo and never really see any others. Why is it just them in this space? I also never see anyone talking about them or how they got to where they are. Similar to how you see thousands of things every day that you never stop to look at and go "Why is that there?" or "How did that come to be?". In fact, most people probably don't even know anything more than the fact that they show up on your PCs screen when booting and little more, including me. (Assuming of course that their screen isn't covered by some splash screen like how my ASUS Mobo is configured currently.) I have looked around online and don't see much about this company, (THIS Wikipedia article seems to be the most informative thing I've found.) but it has to be pretty big to have its hand in almost every PC out there. And yet for as large as I presume that they must be, no one really knows who they are. So why would a video like this be useful? Well, some of the top search suggestions on Google seem to indicate that a ton of regular (read: non tech savvy, a.k.a probably your grandma) people are confused by this screen, particularly when it is something they see instead of the normal splash screen that says Dell or whatever. Some even believe it to be malicious. (See my example photo of a suggested related search from Google on IMGUR.) A video like this would be great to explain to those in an easy to understand and concise manner what this screen is, who American Megatrends are, and so on to someone who is confused about why their PC is showing this screen. (read: It'll help everyone who is tech support for their friends and family, I know a lot of us are.) Thanks. EDIT: Does this forum not support BB Code?

I just went back and watched the old episode on binary, decimal, etc. and it made me think, how does hexadecimal work. I know there are tons of different websites and youtube videos about the system, but the style and format of techquickie videos works very well for me, and I think it would have a pretty decent audience too.

I was luckily one of the small amount of people that was able to order the limited edition gold foil Techquickie T-shirt through teespring back in august. sadly I am not getting any tracking updates, the t-shirt says it last updated on the 2 of September... its now halfway through October and im getting worried. no support has been able to help me so far and i was wondering if this has been an issue for any of the few who was able to order a shirt.

Hey guys, Long time watcher first time poster. I was wondering if a Tutorial series for beginners would be a good idea for LTT or TechQuickie. Short 2-5 min videos that just show step by step how to do basic things that beginners wouldn't know. How to install Windows to a new machine, How to improve your cable management, How to install Linux, etc. etc. Just little things that might help new "Techies". Thoughts?

What camera does LMG use to shoot Techquickie videos? In the 2014 shoot they were using either Blackmagic Cinema Camera or Blackmagic Production Camera. I am quite sure they use BMCC. But what I am wondering is the codec they are using to shoot B-Roll in LTT, Techquickie and A-Roll in ChannelSuperFun

Just as the topic says, I would love to see a TechQuickie on Classless Inter-Domain Routing or CIDR for IPV-4 & IPV-6. My ideal video would include: What is CIDR? Why is it important? How to figure out shorthand based off of your IPV-4 IP address, and subnet mask. Why will we forego IPV-4 for IPV-6. How to figure out shorthand based off of your IPV-6 IP address (as your subnet mask is included in your IPV-6 IP address). My reason for wanting such a video is that while IPV-4 is common place, and people know how to figure out shorthand rather quickly, soon NAT & PAT in IPV-4 will give way to IPV-6. Having a LMG video on the subject would be an invaluable tool for both established, and up and coming IT's alike.

As linus is doing more Linux videos, I would like to see another raspberry pi one. It would probably fit on Techquickie. There have been 2 previous videos, but I would like to see another for the latest edition of the raspberry pi (the raspberry pi 3b+)

This is very off topic (or at least I hope so ). Sooo, I was watching some local sites for a new monitor (just big and cheap for my code lines) and I've found a Lenovo that look fairly good for what I need. And what is someone doing when he finds something that could be next thing to spend money on? Search for reviews, especially videos. One of the google hits were a site that incorporate the message "Uploaded by Techquickie". I'm like: "OK? What the f**k?" and search whole site for that video knowing that formula and the thumbnail is from YT and nothing It seems that Techquickie channel is so famous that it is used even for advertising. Here you have a screenshot with 2 links in same search, at the same site, with the same advertising strategy

So I just watched today's Techquickie video and Linus said the vast majority of routers out more no more than 200mW of signal power: Then what about these 500-1000mW routers, range extenders, and signal boosters from AMPED Wireless? https://www.ampedwireless.com/rta15.html https://www.ampedwireless.com/rta1300m.html https://www.ampedwireless.com/rta1750.html https://www.ampedwireless.com/rta1900.html https://www.ampedwireless.com/rta2200t.html https://www.ampedwireless.com/rta2600-r2.html https://www.ampedwireless.com/family/repeaters.html https://www.ampedwireless.com/sb1000.html Do these devices really eliminate dead spots more effectively (say 1 Amped router + 3 Amped extenders vs. 1 other-brand router + 5 mesh extenders) than traditional routers and mesh networks?

@Edzel Yago @dennisliao Hey, what happen to most recent tecquickie about game loading screen hosted by Coltan? The green screen was badly keyed, it looks as if a manual mask was there to remove the background instead. Techquickie usually surpris me with skilled chroma keying even when linus hair was messy but today I keep on seeing coltan have noisy border, head being cut off, linus looks like being cut off from a magazine with safety scissors....

Considering the tech quickie segments are for basic knowledge in computing I found this rather nice. Not everyone knows how computer components work so it's nice to see these videos distributed. Any case was interesting my favorite techtubers video at my local store

So a couple years back...I think for Techquickie, someone (mabye Taran?) made a clip that looped over and over of Jon turning around and looking directly into the camera while saying something like "Wow" or something... it was something meme-worthy, and they actually used for techquickie... I have no idea where it ended up does anyone remember what video they used it in?

Hey all, I really enjoy watching Techquickie and I want to learn as much as I can. Does anyone know of or have a playlist where I can watch from oldest to most recent? The Official Techquickie playlist is from newest to old and doesn't seem to be updated regularly, if I'm missing something please let me know. Thanks, Zac.

So.... if anyone else has seen the recent TechQuickie video that I have attached in the spoiler below, and you are infuriated at the INSANITY of the LIES about bringing us stress balls, THEN LETS HOLD HANDS AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! If you also feel we should not be left with blue balls for the stress balls, SHOW YOUR SUPPORT! We can make this happen! SEND THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS!

A real chemist explains why he thinks that SCIO is bs. It was featured in a Techquickie episode. His video is quite long, so I suggest watching it on x1.5 speed and skip as much as you can (he tends to repeat himself).

1) @ 1:16 Pixel response time has nothing to do with input lag, they are completely different. Even linus knows this and has talked about it before, I thought he reviewed the script before recording videos but I guess not? That part of the video incorrectly makes it seem like monitors have a 1-4ms delay between receiving an input and showing the image on the screen (aka input lag) which is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. Monitors have typically 10-20ms or more of input lag, which can be compared on displaylag.com 2) @ 1:30 TVs don't "fare much worse" than monitors, in fact most recent models of TVs have about the same input lag as a regular 60hz monitor. Apples to apples, a good 60Hz tv has no more input lag than a 60Hz monitor, between 10 and 30ms. The image shows in the video is of tvs with 40-50ms input lag which is only 2x worse than a regular monitor, not 10x worse. There are plenty of TV options below 20ms which is even good for competitive fps gaming. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/input-lag Also, if the person writing the script had ever used one side by side with a monitor they would have found that the difference is only noticeable when playing fast paced competitive games. When writing documents, editing photos or videos, consuming media, browsing the web, playing casual games, etc. those few ms of input lag make no impact on the usability of the computer. 3) @ 2:18 Almost all new tvs being released by samsung support freesync, and probably some other brands are doing this too. It doesn't have a huge variable refreshrate range at the moment but hopefully that improves in the future. 4) @ 2:30 A TV from a well known brand will have just as good or better colour reproduction than a regular monitor. If you care about super accurate colours then you should be calibrating your display with a colour calibrator, whether it is a tv or a monitor. Obviously a professional factory calibrated monitor made for photo editing will be more accurate than an uncalibrated tv/monitor, but just off-the-shelf a monitor or tv will be perfectly for gaming or regular consumer use. If you colour calibrate the tv then it can even be used for photo editing with very accurate colours (assuming it is a good quality tv and not some cheap chinese model). 5) @ 3:00 Changing the label to "PC" is no more difficult than enabling game mode for low latency. Anyone who reads the instruction manual or does a google search can figure this out. 6) @ 3:10 If you change your computer's resolution to a 21:9 aspect ratio then you can literally have the same experience as with an ultrawide monitor. In fact, ultrawide on a 40" screen will be even bigger and more immersive than a 34" ultrawide monitor. Then you also have the advantage of having 16:9 content (the other 99% of everything that exists) at the full 40" size (rather than 27" with black bars on the sides on the ultrawide) 7) @ 4:05 Local dimming is actually NOT a very desirable feature. Having deep blacks may be nice for marketing big contrast ratio numbers and for movies, but it is actually bad for a monitor. It produces a noticeable halo around objects on a dark background, and a "ghosting" or "trailing" effect behind moving objects as the backlight turns off a few milliseconds after the image changes. Very bad for gaming, and also bad for photo editing since not all blacks will be the same, black areas near white pixels will be less dark. https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/picture-quality/local-dimming At least they got the part about fake refresh rates and OLED correct...but misinformation like this is why people incorrectly believe tvs are bad for using with computers. There are two cases where a monitor is clearly better than a tv: 1) need high refresh rate for gaming (or don't want to drop resolution to 1080p to play at 120hz on some tvs) 2) need a professional and accurate calibrated display In any other case, a (good quality) tv can certainly be considered instead of a monitor. Just read the information at https://www.rtings.com/tv to find a tv that has good input lag and good colours. Once you enable the PC/game mode and plug it into a computer it will literally work exactly the same as a monitor, all the tv and 'smart' features will basically not even exist. It is a far more immersive experience than multi-monitor setups with bezels all over the place. One last tip: If using an nvidia GPU, in the nvidia control panel make sure this is set to full: And if possible use 10 bit colour.
