I currently have a dell t3500 workstation with a passive cooling head sink and w3503 xenon dual core 2c/2t CPU which has a 130TDP, I Purchased a x5670 xenon 6 core 6c/12t CPU. Which is a 95TDP My question is, can i use the stock W3503 130TDP cooler on the x5670 95TDP CPU. I am going to put a 80 or 90mm fan on the side of the cooler where it looks like one should fit perfectly. (ignore what looks like dust. It might be but its perma-dust. It doesn't come off. It might actually be corrosion i got the computer from a neighborhood friend for $3)

Hi, all. I have been a longtime fan of the Dell Precision T3500 (Socket 1366), having run one as my main rig for the past five or six years now. It has done everything I have asked of it and it is still fabulous. I didn't particularly need to upgrade from it, but the bug bit me and so I bought a T5500 motherboard and installed it into a spare T3500 case I have. Combined with a T5500 wiring harness and a 1000w T7400 power supply, it all went together and functions perfectly... as a single processor machine. But a T5500 with one processor is pretty much just a T3500, and so I ordered in the appropriate riser board and installed it along with a matching processor and RAM. Plugged everything up and went to start it up. It POSTs okay, but it keeps throwing an error about something being wrong with one of the DIMMs on the riser, and it seems specific to SLOT 2 and not a particular stick of RAM. Looked at it and cleaned it a little bit. Still with the RAM error. But that is not the big problem. I hit F1 and it continues to boot normally, then it starts to load the OS and suddenly, the power is cut. <click>, and off. I don't think it is thermal, because I can run the entire pre-boot memory test without issue and it will idle indefinitely at the BIOS screen, but the first time it tries to load Windows or Linux off of either a hard drive or a flash drive, it gets to the same point in loading the OS and just shuts off. Any ideas? Thanks

I have a Xeon W3565 CPU, @3.2Ghz , and I don't really understand some things. Well, most things. It seems there are some six and eight core CPU's that will fit in my socket. Do more cores, at the same clock speed mean better performance? Also despite reading and reading and reading I am still confused on what RAM is best for gaming. I have 16gigs of Kingston PC3-10700, not sure if it's ECC. Is there a faster RAM option open to me? Every answer I find seems to confuse to bring up two more. I have to say after solving some cooling issues and getting a GTX 750ti ( already am looking to get something more future proof ) I am happy with it on the whole. The HDD has 16,000 hours on it so I will eventually have to upgrade everything. It's kinda overwhelming. The only issue that is chronic and won't go away is the occasional fit it has where it won't boot because of a "cage fan failure" errors. It's really a pain in the ass. I replaced the front fans to no avail. Then I found out that there is a proprietary Dell hard drive cage with fan that didn't come with the PC because it only has one HDD. Can I assume the original config. for this PC had the extra HD caddy and fan and now that it's gone and not detected is the reason I am getting this occasional but chronic error? Any other suggestions or comments are welcome.

Hey Guyz.. Sorry for my bad english.. I am really upset coz i cannot afford rams every month.. my system was running perfectly but from last month it is destroying my ram.. i have 8 gb of ram and after 2 week or so one of the sticks die.. it always die in a different manner like before dying my pc restart after an hour or so.. and after this slowly slowly the time decreases and it restarts after 5 minutes or so.. it doesn't kill the ram but it makes my ram faulty.. after removing the faulty stick then the system stops restarting..by doing some tests i m pretty sure that it is my ram which dies every so often.. the things i have done are.. replacing all of the rams.. cleaning the pc.. checking all of the connectors.. i wanna mention that there was a blue plastic cover for ram compartment in my pc.. i removed that for some reasons.. but i don't think so that the cover is the issue here.. i m really scared if my motherboard or power supply is doing these things.. overall specs are.. Dell precision t3500 mobo Xeon x5670 6 cores 12 threads at stock 8 gb RAM R9 380 a little bit overclocked Air Flow : two 140mm Fans at the front which are blowing towards the mobo the speed are on auto two 80 mm Fans at the back for exhaust which are running at 100% Again sorry for my bad english but please solve my problem i am very poor

So I just saved a Dell Precision T3500 from a trip to the dump. Owner thought it was broken but it was just missing RAM. I like giving computers a second life when possible. I've been trying to install Windows 10 but have had no luck. I was able to install Win7 with no problem. I have updated the bios to "A17", and have updated other drivers as well. I have tried to install Win10 via disc and usb, but still no luck. Anybody have any ideas?

Dell Precision T3500 (3).jfifHey Guyz.. Sorry for my bad english.. i have a dell precision t3500 which has a really weird motherboard.. in which the pcie slots are on the top and the processor and ram is on the bottom.. i will attach a picture of that pc from the internet.. it has two 120mm fans on the front which is blowing air towards the motherboard one of them is at the front of the cpu heatsink.. as you can see in the picture.. now i have an amd r9 380 from saphire.. unfortunately the fans of my card broken for about a month ago and now attached two 92mm fans on the gpu with zip ties and attach them to the molex since there is no fan header in my mobo.. and therefore they are running at full speed.. the one problem is that the case has no fans for exhaust since there is a room for attaching two 80mm fans at the back.. i have two of them availabe too.. so i am wondering will attaching those two fans and connect them to the molex will help the airflow? coz my components are little bit on the hotter side..and one thing i am not worried about the sound.. i am just consider to get the most out of my components NOTE : the picture i attached is not the original picture of particularly my pc. it is a picture which i downloaded from the internet.. but it is close enough for you to give some advices

Bought a gtx 660 and placed it in my PC. However the screen would go in power saving mode, it's a LG Flatron. The GPU works fine in other PCs

I got a Dell T3500 for 25 USD. It didn't come with a hard drive but I already had a boot drive from another computer whose MB died. It has an Intel Xeon w3530 and 8 GB of RAM (it's probably DDR3 but I'm not sure). It also has two Nvidia Quadro 295s (see attached pic) and a 500 w PSU. I put my other boot HDD into it and it seemed to power on. The fans started running, the MB light was on (it was a yellow light), and even the HDD was spinning. However, I wasn't able to get a display from either of the two GPUs (I had to use a display port to VGA adapter). Further, there doesn't appear to be any display ports on the MB (see attached pic). I tried with a different monitor and can confirm that is not the issue. My best guess is that it's a driver problem since this PC was likely running Windows 7 while the HDD I put in has windows 10. Any suggestions on how to at least get a display? Could I use any of the ports on the MB? Also, if anyone has any advice as to a possible upgrade path for this PC, that would definitely be helpful. Thanks!

So I want to build a new pc but wanted to save a few bucks because of the expensive power supply prices. I have an old Dell Precision T3500 that I want to use the 525W PSU from. Was wondering whether it is safe to do so. The only way I was able to test whether it worked was by using Dell's "Power Supply Unit (PSU) Built-in Self Test." The LED was green. I don't have another desktop at home that works. From the stickers on the power supply, it looks like it was from 2010. The model is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Precision-Workstation-Supply-6W6M1/dp/B0056AY1IQ if anyone else knows about Dell PSUs. Thanks in advance!

Hello I am buying a refurbished dell t3500 from discount computers and I was wondering if anyone could help me find a compatible gpu that I could use for games like beamng drive, cs:go and gta5. I was wondering if someone could help me find a gpu that could play those games with a bit of breathing room for more advanced games. I don’t know if I can but I’m trying to find a gpu that can do all that and be under $300. If that’s not possible than I’m hoping to find a gpu under $300 that can at least play beamng drive on lowest settings. I’m hoping to spend around $100-$250 but I’ll max out at $300. The computer will have 24gb of ram and the cpu will be an Intel Xeon Dual Core W3503 2.4Ghz CPU. I was also wondering what cpu’s I can upgrade to because I don’t know if this computer will support amd Ryzen 5 or even an intel i5 because I couldn’t find what motherboard it has. The first link I have is for the computer I will be buying and the second is the gpu I think might work. Computer: https://www.discountelectronics.com/dell-precision-t3500-t-w7p-computer/ Gpu that might work: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127907 Thank you so much for any help and sorry for the font change.

Hi guys... I have just got a second hand T3500 with Xeon W3690... I firstly ran a stress test, the processor temperature rose from 35 to 80s and hit 92 sometimes after that it remained in mid 80s I changed the thermal compound.. At idle and web browsing it settles between 29-36 but when gaming it rises up to 61 and I stress retested it it settled in the mid 70s the heatsink is very cool and it is even a little cool when the system operating (a new born baby can touch it), don't tell me to make sure that the heat sink is firmly attached because it is... does the quality of thermal compound matter ( especially for a 130W processor ) ? I am thinking about getting a new cooler (mostly water cooler) but I read that the market coolers are with 4 pins but my motherboard supports 5 pins coolers, Is there a solution ? and what cooler should I get regarding the case size ? I have attached the temperatures at the time of posting when 11 tabs on firefox, WordPad are open.. Please help this is driving me crazy... Thanks everyone...

Hey guys. I've been building a super budget gaming pc for the past week or so, and I'm looking for input on what GPU to get. Currently I have a Dell precision t3500 tower. It came with a Quadro FX580 budget card, so I'm looking for an upgrade. Current Specs: Intel Xeon X5470 quad core @2.93 GHz 9 GB 1066 MHz RAM 525W Dell PSU Lite-On 256 GB SSD I've been looking at used Radeon 7970 cards on ebay, and I think I can get one for about $160. Since I have the quadro card though, I was wondering if I would see a benefit from using an Nvidia card and selecting the FX580 as a PhysX processor. What do you recommend? Will other things bottleneck the card too much for a 7970 to be worth it?

So I thought I would share my rather surprising findings with everyone. I recently purchased a Dell Precision T3500 workstation with an intel Xeon W3520 quad core processor. The stock heatsink is pretty big, so I didn't expect really high temps from this thing even with a TDP of 130W. I was wrong. I decided to run a rudimentary stress test with it, running Prime95 in Blend mode and checking temps with RealTemp. It was not pretty. One of the cores reached 99C, which is 1C from TJMax on this CPU. When I ran the CPU focused test, I had to stop it after about 3 min. since one core hit 101C!! Anyway, I decided to open up the system and check the heatsink's thermal compound. The old Dell stuff was entirely dried out and looking terrible. Since I didn't have any proper TIM to replace it with, I just put toothpaste on it (after cleaning the old stuff with Goo Gone). Yes, you read that right, toothpaste. Colgate triple action mint toothpaste. The sad thing is, it reduced temps. It's now running about 10C cooler than the 6 yr old Dell compound at 89C under Blend using Prime95. Lessons learned: 1: Old Dell Thermal paste is not to be trusted. 2: Toothpaste works as a TIM in a synch.
