AI has taken many strides in beating humans at games, and one of the most famous examples was the IBM Deep Blue vs Garry Kasparov chess rivalry which made us look at AI in awe A more recent example was when Google DeepMind beat Lee Se-dol in a game of Go last March, a feat that most if not all computer systems have difficulty with due to its complexity Now AI has a new challenge ahead of it, Starcraft II, the fastest selling strategy game of all time Starcraft II, Blizzard's RTS, was released on July 27, 2010 and saw success with critics and consumers praising it from the then newbies to the veterans of Starcraft 6 years on, the game still has a large community of players around the world Google's DeepMind is one of the most well known AI in the world Starcraft II is one of the most popular and fiercely competitive games in the world Together? Well, we're close to finding out how they will interact Though the developers of DeepMind look forward to winning the battle they still see many problems to overcome So what's the difference between Starcraft's AI and Google's? Well, Starcraft's AI can see the whole playing field Meanwhile Google will play it just like any player, it will need to scout the areas so that it gains visibility on the playing field Though we won't see AI try to beat a top-ranked player any day soon, it's an exciting prospect for gamers and AI researchers alike It's definitely an awesome spectacle to see games become the battleground for AI research I'm personally looking forward to seeing AI's capabilities and I'm fairly optimistic towards the technologies advancements The battle of Man vs Machine.....to be continued Sources: http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/4/13518210/deepmind-starcraft-ai-google-blizzard https://deepmind.com/blog/deepmind-and-blizzard-release-starcraft-ii-ai-research-environment/

I've been having problems with my graphics cards dramatically under preforming while playing Starcraft 2 (I know, I know its a dead game but I like it). My setup is below: i7 7820x 64gb memory gtx 1080 Despite this I consistently drop to single digits in game at lowest settings, and the game becomes unplayable. In addition I have a 'gigabit' internet connection which actually is more like 600 mb/s, so I don't think it is an internet issue. This happens at both 1440p and 1080p, I have't tried lower resolutions. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my card physically as it can fold for several days without any problems. I have also tried both a 970 and 1080 and the problem persists. Checking the game logs I repeatedly get the following errors (full file attached): GFX 21:03:21.156 DirectX call m_device->TestCooperativeLevel() failed with error code -2005530520 GFX 21:03:22.849 DirectX call m_device->TestCooperativeLevel() failed with error code -2005530519 GFX 21:03:22.853 DirectX call failed with error code -2005530519 GFX 21:03:22.853 Lost D3D9 device I have tried the following troubleshooting steps: Memtest - no errors Updated bios Updated nvidia graphics drives revert OC to factory settings [ :-( ] Yet the problem persists. I am curious if anyone else has run into this issue, in Starcraft2 or other games and has a fix. If not any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? 2018-06-07 02.21.20 Graphics.txt

A couple of pictures of my simple new build, centered around the S340 elite blue/black. As soon as I saw this case I knew that it was my favorite, but I wanted to add a little something different to make it look unique. It's hard to capture just how vibrant colors are on modern RGB parts with smartphone cameras. This is based on a Core i5 8400. Some points of interest: The Protoss pylon fits perfectly in that spot, it only has about 1 cm clearance between the back bar and side glass. This computer is used primarily in Linux, and as such I did a fair amount of research to find out what RGB parts I could buy that would still work without Windows. You still need Windows to set the colors, but in the case of both the NZXT Hue+ lighting controller and Corsair Vengeance RGB memory (thanks to @RKRiley for helping me figure that out), the color settings are stored on the parts themselves, so they retain their colors when you are outside Windows. That thing on top of the case is a USB volt/amp meter. The only thing left to do is add the NZXT Hue+ RGB strip extension kit to create a subtle glow in the dark corners, and I will be adding a GPU at some point if I decide to use this computer for gaming.

Yep, you read that right, Blizzard Entertainment has added a Premium Arcade section in their Patch 4.3.0 release. ARK Star and Direct Strike are the first two maps to be released as Premium Arcade titles. Apparently, this was mentioned back in 2009, but wasn't released until now, according to Engadget. Those are all the relevant quotes I can think of. I've got mixed feelings about this: On one hand, I do feel that mapmakers and modders should get some kind of monetary compensation. High quality mods maps is a serious pain in the ass to make, and by the end of it, should be compensated in some way other than number of downloads and good reviews. On the other, companies shouldn't be charging for mods. If they want to get a cut of the profits, maybe modders and mapmakers should be making standalone games? To me, this isn't as black and white as people make it out to be. It's a gray area issue. But by the end of the day, modders, mapmakers, and developers should be rewarded with some kind of donation or some monetary gain (through Patreon, Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, or similar) that's fair for both the players and makers alike. As for me that's relative to StarCraft, I've been developing my own StarCraft campaign for some time now, and I'm getting close to where I can make a proof of concept to show that this is real - this is possible. If I intended to get some monetary gain, a Patreon donation should suffice (in the future, don't have one, and not ready yet). If I want to make big bucks off of this game, I'll make a full standalone version with totally different gameplay and expanded dialogue, including new dialogue that I cut from the Arcade version for content ratings reasons. https://www.engadget.com/amp/2018/04/24/starcraft-ii-premium-arcade/ https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/starcraft2/21728663/starcraft-ii-4-3-0-patch-notes We can debate paid content like this, as long as we all remain compliant to the Community Standards, and it doesn't devolve to the use of logical fallacies and name calling.

Hey! My name is Simon and Today I would like to show my build for you just to give you an idea of how to create a Mid-plate in a Corsair Obsidian 750D. I am 17 years old and have no to little experience in this area, everything I did was completely improvised, except the measuring ofc . Also take in mind that this works for the 750D case and that case only! No other Obsidian case will have the same measurements! The specs on the computer used are GTX 970 G1 Gaming. 4790K @4.8. And the motherboard msi Z97-S02. Having this motherboard allows for the sheet to slide in between a PCI-E slot and all the interface from the motherboard to the Chassi buttons, which makes it look alot cleaner. This might work with other motherboards aswell, but no guarantee. Also keep in mind that this mod allows you too keep the HDD cages inside of the chassi, the only problem is that you cannot have the small handles for the HDD holders, which basically makes them useless, but hey, no need to take them out since they can just aswell be there! To kick it off I will tell you what you need, material wise, skill is not really required. Knowing how to handle big machinery or having someone doing it for you like my dad did is *GOLD*. Note how i clearly meant what i said! GOLD! Optional stuff marked with a "*" at the beginning. One sheet made out of any metal will do. Atleast 325x470x(1-3 should not really matter) millimeters. Metal sheet bender and cutter. A drilling machine with a rather large bit of 25 mm+. This is for the hole where the PCI-E power cables will come up from. *Plexi glass. Almost the same dimensions, 325x470x5. Except a bit thicker. This is to prevent it from cracking since I found bending a thin 2 mm piece was completely impossible. *Spray paint. I used Black and White. Feel free to use whatever. Also remember to use proper paint designed for masking unlike mine, which made it crack and look real nasty, I will have to redo the paintjob completely. At a distance of 1 meter it looks good though! *Sleeved cables. (Mines are ordered and will be here in 1-2 days from the topic creation. Updates will be here then) *Angle grinder or sand paper with a hell of a lot of muscle! This is used to narrow down the edge of the 5 mm plexi to be thin enough to slide below a PCI port on the Motherboard. *Masking tape. If you go for paint, this is a nobrainer! *An LED string to make it look cooler, I went for an RGB one with remote controlling, worth every Swedish crown! *Sandpaper to sand the Plexi in order for the spray paint to grip properly. *Just a writer and some cool icons that you wanna have on your midplate printed out for masking! 750D Obsidian Case ONLY. The measurements will not be proper to any other Obsidian case! Sections This is divided into four, possibly five sections, section 1 being how to shape the metal sheet. Section 2 how to shape the plexiglass and how to handle the surface. Section 3 will be about painting. And finally section 4 will be about inserting the newly ordered sleeved cables and installing the LED string+tips on where to place the IR-Reciever if you bought an RGB one with controller. I might add a section 5 in the future where I build a white cover for the three rubber openings in the 750D (The 24-pin Motherboard power comes out from one of them) to cover the hidious rubber rings and also adding some extra white to the fully black chassi. Once again, this can be done with any color, but personally I prefer Black & White builds over anything else! Section 1 This is the section where I show how to form the metal sheet. So, to get started, I did a prototype with a metal sheet to drill holes etc and to see where things did work out and where they did not. You might decide to stick with the metal which is also a very nice option, then you can just basically skip the ending 70% of this tutorial since it is about painting mostly. The sheet was first cut to 325x470 and then marked at 170 mm in width. It was done with this machine. The machine used for bending it looks like this After a completed bend at the specified point the sheet will look something like this. Test fitting it inside the computer to see if the measurements were correct. Notice how it goes smoothly in between the PCI slot and the bottom connectors. If you use a sheet as your midplate make sure to isolate the ends with more than just paint to prevent it from shorting out and frying your motherboard! Final thing that needs to be done is to drill a hole in the plate on the upper side. This is for the PCI-E cables to come out from and smoothly into the graphics card. This is optional but looks really good. The measurements are a bit different from my graphics card since they all vary in length. This card is really big (Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970) And needed the hole to be drilled at 220 mm from the left side of the sheet, and 50 from the bend, the hole is drilled on the top side. For clarification it would be the side facing up on the picture above you. Be sure to not just steal these measurements but to actually check for yourself if your GPU is in the length of these measurements. I kinda eyeballed it and marked my spot so finding yours should not be to difficult. Keep in mind that when you are doing this step with plexi glass you will have to first drill a small hole of about 6-10 mm before stepping up to 28-32. I learn this the hard way as my first piece broke in half. I also have to add that you need to be extremely careful and lower the drill very slowly, last thing you want is forcing it through the plastic and cleaving it! SECTION 2 Here starts the section where I will handle the Plexiglass. It starts by cutting a piece of plexi in the same size as the metal sheet. Here is where it becomes tricky however, a 5 mm sheet is a pretty tough task to bend, but it is doable. I tried bending it in the same maching as I bent the metal sheet in but it instantly springed back. I layed more pressure and the BAM, it snapped. You can see the crack to the left. The right piece is the new one. I tried a new approach, where I still used the same machine, but heated the edge on the inside and outside of the plexy for 30 seconds each with a heat gun on maximum heat, then bending about 30 degrees in the metal sheet bender. After doing this 3-4 times the bend was complete with a fine 90 degree angle. Before we move on to section 3 we need to do one more thing. We need to sand the both outer ends of the plexi. Without doing this the spray pain will not stick to the surface, but will instead clump up like drops on the surface, if the paint is not designed for plexi spraying that is... After sanding it might look like this. I have no clue how to sand properly btw, I just went full SMOrc on it and it seemed to do the trick. Also, worth to note is that with a plexi plate over 2 mm you will not be able to fit it properly between the PCI-E connection and the bottom connectors on the motherboard which will make it look kinda bad, therefore you need to get an angle grinder. I used a cutting "blade" looking like this. You can probably use most of the sanding ones. Just be careful so that you don't go too rough on the grinder's "blade" and because of that break plexi glass at 3 mm or so. It will ruin your day. I recommend going for quite a while. Surprisingly it takes quite a while to sand plexy and after about 5 minutes of grinding it looked like this. It was not enought and I had to grind another 10 to make the angle even sharper. If you are uncertain of when it's gonna fit snuggly, test it out every once in a while, if it's too fat, go back to grinding! Only one step left before we move on to section 3, and that is the hole for the PCI-E power cables exactly as the one we did back in section 1. If you need measurements or tips on how to do it, just scroll back up to the last part of section 1 and you'll find it! Okay! The first two sections finished! Only two, possibly three in some week if people show interest and think that this was not too much of an amateur's work. For those who missed it up top section 5 would be a plate covering the three rubber holes leading into the cable management section. If you paint it the color you want I think it can really prove to add some nice aesthetics to the build. Anyways, section three and four gonna be coming up today or tomorrow depending if I feel like writing the entire thing today. Also feel free to ask anything about the build! I will try to answer it as professionally and fast as I can! Cheers!

I have a Dell T5500 0CRH6C motherboard with the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400 GPU and two Intel Xeon X5675 processors 8Gb of ram ~220 SSD running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro. I want to do a clean install though don't have a reinstall disk so exhausting all personally acceptable option will have to repurchase a legit copy of 7 or take advantage of the new Windows offer. I figure that I may as well make the move to Windows 10. NVIDIA does not have have drivers for my card to work with 10. I find that It will be some $160 more or less for Windows 7 Pro from a reputable dealer so that is the budget I feel I will place on a new GPU. All that being said I am new to the pc upgrading world. I know that I have need for a minimum of 3 display and eventually many more. I know that my computer is work oriented and I value having a 20+ tabs open all the time as well as several other programs. That being said I do on occasion play some Starcraft on the system and deal with low setting. In short workstation over gaming. I will begin to do minor video editing in the near future in some lines of my work; nothing extensive closer to light hobbist. I need help figuring out what kind of specs I am to be looking for in a GPU and perhaps suggestions or examples of GPUs that correspond with my interests. The internet is crowded with gaming this and gaming that and I need computing direction on increasing workflow. What are or suggestions? Opinions? Reasonings? Am I looking at this the wrong way? If so, what do you believe to be a more appropriate line of reasoning?

Since Halo Wars came out on Xbox 360 I have played the game and I have grown extremely fond of the game. However I have a PC now and so I stopped buying Xbox Live. So I no longer play Halo Wars. However, I still would like to play a RTS games such as Halo Wars on PC. However when looking around for ideas most people suggest Starcraft 2. I own the game but it is very fast passed and all the people I seem to play are extremely good. So I haven't really grown to like it that much in comparison to Halo Wars. Do you have any other games that might be a substitute for Halo Wars? Your suggestions would be a great help for me. Thanks!

Hello LTT forum, First, I would like to say long time fan but new to the forum so, please be nice ! Currently I am working on a 2-12 player RTS style StarCraft mod in which mobility and micro are the focus. Each player starts with a Hyperion class warship which operates much like a command center once landed. Resources are randomly generated map wide over the games duration constantly keeping you on the move. The goal of the game is to destroy your opponents Hyperion class warship while keeping yours alive. The rest is not set in stone as I am always integrating new features. Now, on to the purpose of this topic. I would like to test this map to work out all the bugs. Also, balance is extremely important and will require detailed feed back from players like you. This will require you to add me as a friend in StarCraft2 at least for the duration of the test. Furthermore, I was thinking of setting up a Team-Speak server for the duration of the test, let me know what you think. I will be posting an alpha release date by the end of the week. If this is something that interests you please reply on this thread voicing your interest so, I may get in contact with you.

I'm looking to get into playing StarCraft and am considering which version to buy on amazon. There's StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and a combo edition with both. Wings of Liberty costs US$16, Heart of the Swarm costs US$18 and the combo costs US$40. I know I want to play Wings of Liberty for sure, but I'm not sure about Heart of the Swarm. Any help/advice?

Hey everyone, I'm having some weird lag spikes while playing Starcraft 2 HoTS on my Asus G750JX-QS71. It's always been doing this, but more recently it's been getting worse. The mouse still moves on screen, but the game in the background seems to have been frozen. It does the exact same thing on wifi, plugged in, medium settings, ultra settings, my friends place, my room, my kitchen... but it doesn't do it on my main rig (i7 4770k w/ gtx 770). specs of the laptop (is completely stock): i7 4700hq 16gb ram gtx770m Any clue as to why or any possible fixes?

Greetings Linus Tech Tips community I'm currently hosting a game on Pretend You're Xyzzy with my latest addition to my collection of Cardcast decks titled Cards Against Terrans. As its name implies, it's a parody deck of Blizzard Entertainment's StarCraft series. If you want to come and join my game, you can, just go to The Biggest, Blackest Dick server and look for my name (James_Kerrigan) and type in this password: IKnowStarCraft. Role-playing is optional, provided that you use a major character's name and you know that character's personality and character in a comedic setting Server: The Biggest, Blackest Dick Cardcast decks being used: Cards Against Terrans and JurunceNK's Top Cards Against Humanity Picks - Blacks Password: IKnowStarCraft Prerequisites must have played StarCraft to at least know the basics of the game, its characters, and the story must have a good, or an awful sense of humor (optional) must be a good-enough role-player to role-play. Must use a character for this (e.g. Jim_Raynor)

So I thought since this forum had such a diverse gamer crowd it would be a good place to ask. What did we do wrong with Starcraft 2? Near the tail end of WoL, it seemed like it was the game all esports fans have been waiting for. There was legitimate talk of network deals and it was even shown on ESPN at one point. Then it all went sour and the game basically crashed dispite a slight bump when HotS was released. What do you guys think went wrong? Are these types of RTS games just on the way out with MOBAs taking? Will there be a way for LotV to save the franchise?

So I just wanted to see if anyone else caught the live stream of this? It JUST ended about 10 minutes ago, and was probably one of their best shows. State of the Game is a livestream show/podcast that JP McDaniel hosts (Former MLG Caster/producer, now freelance) that focuses on eSports in general, and Starcraft 2 specifically. Pretty much all of his guests are from the SC2 community (Players, casters, team owners, etc). This show (among other things) started JP's eSports career. Anyway, the guests were Sean Day[9] Plott (My favourite SC2 caster), Liquid Tyler (Formerly Liquid Nony, retired pro sc2 player), and Geoff InControl Robinson (Of team EG - Evil Geniuses - pro sc2 player, though mostly does management and casting for his team these days). The event was held live at the EG Team studio (Where they host SC2L: Starcraft 2 League). Near the end, JP got pretty emotional when they were doing the shoutouts and wrapping it up. I personally think it's fantastic to have these personalities in the eSports community, ones who care that much about making eSports a legitimate thing. [Edit] VODs here: And this was cut from the VODs for some reason but: JP getting emotional about the show

So, basically if anyone has played Starcraft and felt bad Blizzard hasn't released a MMO, well don't be more, Upheaval arts has got you covered, SCU is a free game playable by anyone who owns the free (Starter Edition) of Starcraft II, and yes, the intro is playable as of right now in SC2 launcher. Now, this game is independant from Blizzard, and is running a Kickstarter to get funded, so here it is http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/747939120/starcraft-universe Screnshots seem amazing, characters are fun to play, and ti seems really promising, so I would like if you guys could check it out. (For all SC fans, if they hit $1,000,000 dollar mark, they will recreate the whole Koprulu sector, oh yeah!)

The Starcraft World Championship Series Season 2 Finals start on August 23. Here is the link to the groups: http://twitter.com/ESL_Shawn/status/367692758284128257/photo/1 How hyped are you guys? Which is the group of death? Innovation has been looking really really good with a small hiccup of losing 0 - 4 to Maru, otherwise he has been doing extremely well in his non-mirror matchups.
-
Boom. Let's start this off with an introduction. Race League Server Mouse, keyboard, mousepad (Why?) I play Terran, I started laddering with the intent of getting better recently and I'm currently Silver on NA. Trying to steal Maru's builds and play styles after Innovation was so easily beaten by him. I use a Razer Abyssus Mirror and Prime Edition Tt eSPORTS G1. I had gone through a few mice (Razer Ouroboros, M65, the BMW mouse) but they all proved to be too big for my hand to comfortably grip with my fingertips. So I went on a search for small mice and the Abyssus was among the smallest and had a perfect sensor. I had a conversation earlier about peripherals. China's behind in gaming gear by a decade and their stuff is really cheap. Mechanical is too pricey for that market and they largely still use membrane (or Knucker style). What do you use?

Hey Guys & Gals, Probably my first topic over here on LTT, so here goes. Yesterday I recieved my shiny new MSI Gaming TF GT770 OC in the post, and here's where the story begins. When I installed it (into the rig in my sig) in place of the 7870XT, GeForce Experience had a mare installing, saying it wasn't able to install ShadowPlay and then if i tried to open GFE then it would not respond everytime. So i decided to uninstall it and found that the standalone driver includes the older version of GFE, Great! That worked well it all installed so i went ahead and deleted MSI Afterburner just in case it had any OC settings left behind and made sure to remove any AMD drivers from my system including the registry. Now this 770 is supposed to be pretty damn good but when i play Starcraft II or WoW it doesn't really perform well at all, in fact worse than my 7870XT. I use Afterburners OSD so i can monitor temps, FPS, and load while in game and it shows that the card doesn't push itself past 50-60% load and even drops down below that sometimes. Now i don't mind as if the screen is still it can do lots of FPS, but as soon as I start to move (which you need to in a RTS to control huge armies) the frame rate drops drastically to like 15FPS and I can't tell why. In Unigine Valley/Heaven & Kombustor its pushing out numbers which seem legit for a 770 and in those benchmarks it does push the card to its max, but not in games. Any suggestions to why I can't get maximum performance in games? I'm using latest drivers, with the factory OC on the card.
