Hello everyone i am about to move and i wanted to be smarter, literally and metaphorically. so, i was looking of lights, but nothing rly was jumping into my eye, then i noticed philips hue. the system itself at least sounds real good, but its very expensive. i have seen others brands for cheaper, but i have no experience at all in that area. thats why i ask here. what i want is rgb (cause all rooms are left white and nearly everything are shades of grey), dimmable, create groups, which would be each room. i also want movement detection, so i dont have to switch the lights on and off, as well as adjustable light intensities for certain daytimes. for example i dont wanna have 100% light at 3 o clock in the morning, i also dont want the color be blue then xD if sorta things are possible, that would be awesome. i then thought, if i make the lighting that way, maybe something like this with sound is also possible? like i have one source and when i move to another room, the sound "goes with me". i did start looking into things, but i am by no means a person of quick decision, this could easily take up to half a year for me, cause if i dont understand something i try to understand it. thats the other big reason im asking here, in hope it speeds up the process a lot. also, im not sure if home theater equipment is the correct spot for this. if not i am sorry and will post it in the correct one.

My seagate st2000dm001 in an external enclosure reports it's (BE) Airflow temperature as failed in HDTUNE PRO. Current: 54 Worst: 44 Threshold: 45. HDsentinel does not see that attribute's value as problematic. The drive has 70 Power-on-hours and power on count is 107 times. Is it safe to continue storing backup of data on that drive?

Heya guys, first time posting but couldn't think of a better place to ask about advice in his matter. My wife and I will be moving into our own apartment soon, and we're looking to get a new TV for the living room. Requirements are: Be OLED Support HDMI 2.1 (we own a Playstation 5, so at least one port would be good) Between 55-65' in size From looking at past videos on the LTT youtube, I think Sony, LG and Samsung TVs are dominant in the market. Hey guys, I really do not know if this is the right sub-forum...but I hope the community can help me out. I use a Google Nest Doorbell directly in Google Home (without the NEST-App). Is there any moderatly easy way to use the motion detect of that camera to turn on lights? At the moment I use a Smart Lightswitch integrated in the SmartLife app. I could also use a Shelly if that would change anything. I've googled for some guides but most of them are not up to date and I could not get it to work. Or some steps were missing in between... Thanks for your help guys&gals, Max

Hi folks! I set up my NAS using some Seagate Ironwolf HDDs (ST8000VN0022) almost 2 years ago, recently I started having a LOT of panic errors from FreeNAS saying my pool is degraded because of too many errors, or sometimes takes the drive offline. I managed to export the S.M.A.R.T. data and for both drives the "ECC Error Rate" failed. Now I have also spend the last day using "SeaTools for Windows" utility to use the "Fix all - long" option, and the utility resulted in "success". (Also the S.M.A.R.T. check with the utility resulted "pass" even though there is a "failed" item...) My questions are: Could someone tell me what exactly this criteria is, and how serious it is? And Is this drive safe to use again? I have backup for the data previously on it, so I can even wipe it clean and start over, if that's how this stat can be cleared. Also I'm still under warranty, so is this something worth/accepted as RMA? I've attached screenshots for the S.M.A.R.T. data. Thanks in advance!

I built my NAS machine on the third of June (7/3), bought two fresh 4TB Ironwolfs and slapped it into my old computer which runs e3 1230v2, 16GB of ram, with 256GB Samsung SSD (MLC I suppose?). So i'm working on getting a pretty comprehensive smart home setup, however i'm semi-worried about security; I've watched a good number of video's on securing smart home devices and making sure the network is secure, but i'm gonna ask in here and see how secure people think "this setup" would be, and i have a few questions at the end, if you all wouldn't mind helping me? My actual home network would have a "Dream machine pro", with a "Access Point HD" for wifi. The Dream machine would have: - It's IPS turned on. - The threat management turned on level 5 - a VLAN for "Main" which would be my phone and computer, a VLAN for "IoT" for all the smart devices, and a normal "Guest" network. [However i'm unsure if i should include alexa devices with the "IoT" vlan or if maybe i should have two IoT vlan's, one for what i would assume are pretty secure devices, like "echo shows" and other actual amazon/alexa devices and ring security devices, then maybe a "IoT 2" for the more insecure (i would assume) devices. - UpnP would be turned off. - Remote access/management would be turned off. - Port forwarding would be turned off. - WPS would be turned off. - "respond to pings from lan" and "respond to pings from wan" would be turned off. [I've heard this is good to turn off for increased security] My questions are: 1 - With the network set up like this, would some smart devices lose functionality or not work properly? 2 - is this fairly secure? any settings i could change to make it more secure? 3 - Any settings that i have up their "turned off" that don't need to be? 4 - what would you rate this for smart home networking security? is it decent? good enough? pretty good? etc

Can anyone share the current helium health status of their 5 years (and older) Helium Drives? I googled the average Helium life of the new drives and it said roughly '5 Years'. I want to know the 'real-life' status. Thanks.

I just bought a brand new NVME SSD. Not so long after installing an OS, i got an error while playing with apt package manager. It says: I quickly ran smartctl tools to check my drive and here's the report: spccA60.txt Can't believe that it happens to me. I know it may sound dumb, but hear me out, SDs are just like a SSD, but smol, so I bought this 1TB SD card for 5 dollars and Im thinking about installing some games in it like COD Warzone, does the SD card performs worse than a traditional SSD or HDD? and if it does, how worse are we talking about? is it a good idea to install my games on it? Hi, I'm quite new on home smart devices. Im correctly using a xiaomi rbg sealing lamp and a ambient light with a govee rgb strip behind the desk and i want to add more ambient light down the future. For now im controling the lights via google home but whene my gf its home it can not turn the lights on without using my phone so i want to change the normal wall switch for someting with 2 chanels. 1 Channel o turn on only the roof lamp to white and the 2 channel for exemple to turn on the roof light to a designated color and also turn the ambient light. Im afraid to buy something that will not work so thats why im asking for help.

Hi. I currently have Samsung NVME EVO 970 Plus with OS and just installed recently purchased WD NVME SN570 drive. I did not have Samsung Magician installed as well but I want to for drive's health monitoring. On its home page Samsung mentions that software works with drives of other manufacturers but some features will not be available. On downloads page it mentions that Samsung Magician does not work with other drives. I know that there is Western Digital Dashboard Monitor for monitoring WD drives but my Samsung main drive is more important for monitoring. Should I pass up on monitoring WD drive? Is it a bad idea to have both monitoring software installed and working in real-time? Thanks

Hi guys, I have started searching for some information about the microcontrollers/controllers with which I can develop my own controller and the SMART-house. It is needed for my research work. I am new to this, and it is hard for me to find the necessary information. I have found that such controllers as Arduino, Raspberry PI, ESP32, etc can be used. However, how can I find the model of the controller which can suit my requirements? They are the following: 2-stage building with a garage (so it is +-400 sq.m.) with some number of SMART devices that are responsible for security (cameras, fire alarm, etc), temperature control, radiators, leakage control, opening/closing control, etc. I am interested in the hardware area at first. Hi all, My wife and I are currently in the process of refurbing a house built in the 70s for our family, I would like to put in as much smart technology as I can but am not sure where to begin. I am looking at setting up an office in the house with a cabinet and racks for networking, my computer is a pretty substantial build so should be more than capable of running most things. I am going to be using it for my Plex server and plan on putting in a home cinema also? What would be your recommendations? Should I run software of the computer to control the house? What would yous recommend for the different rooms? Kitchen (lighting, kettle, over, etc) and the same with all other rooms? Where should I begin? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. We have to analyse whether or not Logitech should enter the smarthomes business and, eventually, how. This project require to go outside, get insights and opinions from users and the different potential stakeholders. As you all know, we are going through an difficult crisis and we all have to stay home. The thing is, our project is not cancelled and we still have to get those insights using different ways to get there. Do you think Logitech has a card to play in that sector ? 2) Would you consider paying for such equipement ? Essentially: "SMART detected HHD/SSD failure 2: Corsair Neutron XT SSD WARNING! Please back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. WARNING! Your HDD/SSD might crash at any moment. Press F1 to Run SETUP." I can't get past the BIOS, the PC just restarts and shows the same error. All the devices are still showing up in the BIOS and on the warning page. Was having no issues prior to installing a new GPU & CPU cooler. I was getting a CPU fan speed error prior to the failure warning because I'd accidentally put the CPU fan on a chassis fan header (silly me). After shutting the PC down and fixing that problem I got the failure screen.

Hey guys, Built a new machine. I believe I may have went cheap with my SSD. The first one that came in the mail was DOA! They sent me a replacement through Newegg no problem. Well since then the last month or so I've noticed some weird bugs. I've had to reformat my machine already once, and then lately while the computer is in use, it will randomly lock up. It doesn't blue screen it just gets stuck. Now I've ran several SMART tests, and even the windows diagnostic. Everything states that the drive is fine. But something must be wrong if while I'm purely letting a twitch stream run in the background as I am using my laptop for my job and I look over and it just locks up... it makes me believe something is wrong. The drive itself is a PNY CS1311 240GB. I've only used this drive as my boot, and everything else is stored on my Seagate ST1000DM003 1TB. Any advice?

Hi, guys I need your help: I need to connect LG UH610V Smart Tv and Desktop PC (No integrated WIFI) to share screen. Tv supports MiraCast and Intel Widi. Desktop supports MiraCast. I have used few wifi adapters (none supports wifi direct and miracast), somehow one of them works, it is glichy, and not usable. TV and Desktop, are on same network. How to connect them, are adapters only solution, to buy Chromecast?, what to do?, i am lost in these technologies. What is worse, it is for work, my first work. They need them connected wirelessly .

I have a Seagate 2TB external backup HDD I've been using for almost a year, been working fine until now. I'm getting VERY low transfer speeds to and from it with one of my internal drives on the other end, like down to 3MBps at times. I get 80MBps+ between my two internal HDDs, so it's definitely the Seagate drive. Additionally, when I went to look at the SMART status in Disk Checkup the status is "Warning! <10% free space on one or more drives." Thing is, the drive is mostly empty, like, 1.4TB free. What do?
