Everything seems to be working perfectly fine still and the temps never went above 60°c im just wondering if this a cause for concern and maybe i should stop before it causes any actual damage to my system? Thanks for your input!~

In about a years time, I plan to be completely on my own with my line of work... (i.E Photography, Music, Web design, Video editing, ect.) And I was wondering if any veterans have any tips for people like me... because it is quite daunting be so self reliant for the first time ever. Furthermore, what is like to be self employed, whats the day to day like, is it scary at times, is it overwhelming, ect. * I am asking specifically about being self employed * Thank you so much for your time!, Bryan

So as the title say, I want a good horror game or mod. And I want the best suggestion you can come up with. But before you do I should mention the game I already played: -Outlast + DLC - Amnesia the dark decent and a machine for pigs -Layers of Fear - Afraid of monsters (I want something similar to this mod) -Cry of Fear -[EDIT] Dead Space These are the games I remember playing since I may have missed some. Most important I don't want a zombie game since they tend to be less scary. And DON'T SUGGEST FNAF If u suggest a mod I prefer a conversion mod, for example to avoid mods with original half life monsters. I ran out of ideas and my search had no gains so all I can is ask on a forum. in other words: plz sker mi alot

This is a long post, I know. But I think it's still a good idea that you take a look at it. So it seems that a new, and very nasty piece of malware is making its rounds on the Internet. This malware, called Rombertik, is particularly nasty because if it detects itself to be running in a sandbox (like a virtual machine so people can safely analyze it) it deletes itself, but if it detects that it has been detected on a real machine, it either wipes the storage medium (your hard drive or SSD) or deletes the MBR (Master Boot Record) preventing the computer from starting up again. If it just deleted the MBR and itself and did nothing afterwards, I wouldn't be too worried about it because I have replaced the MBR before without reinstalling Windows (it's actually rather easy to do) and restored it to its former functionality, but if it does take your files with it, then it's definitely something to look at. Because Rombertik goes after the Master Boot Record, I'm not sure how it would function on a computer running a UEFI system, because that functions a little more differently. Either way, it's best to keep this little nasty thing away from your computer regardless. Of course, the main idea for Rombertik is to steal your web browsing data, including login information. It doesn't target just banking information, it targets everything. That means your email, Facebook and Linus Tech Tips accounts will also be stolen by Rombertik. The only way I know of avoiding it is by avoiding emails which contain attachments (especially if you don't know who the sender is). This is a broad generalization, because as I read Rombertik is often sent through official looking emails appearing to be from big companies such as Microsoft. Microsoft won't send you email attachments, regardless of any circumstances. Even still, if you see an email with an attachment in it, and it looks like a big company, just delete it anyways, and contact the company. If it is legitimate, they will send another if you ask for it. Rombertik also uses phishing tactics to infect computers. Again, keep an eye out for those. I also delete anything and everything in my spambox in Gmail, regardless of whether or not it's legitimate, unless I've been expecting an email that ended up in the spambox. I don't know how antivirus companies will write their software to protect against this virus. One thing that I can think of is a modified BIOS or UEFI firmware which is modified by a computer's manufacturer which actively looks for such malicious software and removes it before searching for an operating system. This could be effective as once the Rombertik malware has installed itself, it restarts the computer, so by having a BIOS or UEFI implemented scan in place that runs in the BIOS before the operating system is booted, Rombertik cannot detect that it has been detected. But this method would be difficult to implement, and older computers probably won't be supported by this. Another idea I had was an updated version of Microsoft Defender which is written to a separate partition where only authorized software with a long authorization code known only by Microsoft can run on the storage medium which is accessed first during the boot process (even before the Master Boot Record), and thus preventing Rombertik from running before anything else. Defender would then scan the storage medium for any traces of Rombertik and delete them all. Other antivirus companies such as Avast! or Kaspersky could do this as well, but it would require authorization from Microsoft. Of course, this would be much easier to implement than having a BIOS or UEFI scan that looks for things like Rombertik, but there's a chance that virus makers could intercept this authorization code and implement it into their virus. This is extremely important: Rombertik disguises itself as a .SCR file, a screensaver, but it looks like a .PDF file. This will trick many unknowing users. Of course, as of now, this is what it is being disguised as, that we know of. There may be more disguises now or in the future. Here are some ways I think viruses can get in, and how you can help stop that: Through attachments in emails. Just don't download any attachments, regardless of where it looks like it's from, unless you're expecting it. Through phishing. Go to the actual website that an email may be claiming it to be from. Through downloader installers. There are some websites which employ their custom-made installers which download the program you want from a server on the Internet. These installers often offer you other crapware that you don't want, but fortunately, most of them don't install them if you uncheck them or decline the licensing agreement for the crapware. CNET uses their installers for some programs, and while CNET is trustworthy, I still don't use their downloaders. I always use their "direct download link" option that is a small link close to the actual download button. So, don't use any downloaders or installers. Look for a direct download link on the website in question. If they don't offer one, look elsewhere. Through program installers. This one in particular drives me nuts. Sometimes, I'll be installing a perfectly legitimate program through the actual program installer, but before the installer copies its own files to the storage medium, it offers you one or more (usually three) programs which either have a check box or are automatically checked to "I agree" for the licensing agreement. Again, deselect all of these. Even if they are legitimate programs being offered, they're probably not going to be of much use. Use Web of Trust, and actually check the website scorecard. Web of Trust places a circle next to almost every link you see in your web browser. This circle is intended to be an indication of whether a site is trustworthy or not, with green indicating a site which is safe, yellow indicating a site which is not trustworthy, and a red icon indicating a dangerous site. Of course, sometimes these indicators may not be correct (as I believe some bad sites may employ bots to mass rate their site to make it appear good) so always check the site scorecard to see if anyone is leaving negative comments about the site. If you have a bad experience with a site, sign up for Web of Trust and leave a comment on the site's scorecard so other users know about any problems. Always have an up-to-date and effective antivirus software. I personally use Kaspersky Internet Security on my main machines. It's expensive, but so worth it. I have never had any serious issues while using Kaspersky. Another good AV software is Avast!. I recommend using the full versions on your most important computers. Norton is not a very effective AV software, and McAfee has a lot of problems, so I don't recommend those. If you can prevent yourself from getting Rombertik in the first place, you've already won. You can read more about Rombertik and the reverse engineering of Rombertik by Cisco here: http://blogs.cisco.com/security/talos/rombertik What are your thoughts on this nasty piece of malware? What do you think you'll be doing to protect yourself from it? Of course, a big chunk of staying safe from viruses is a smart Internet user, but it's still possible to contract viruses. I consider myself to be a smart Internet user, but there is one time I can remember getting adware on my computer and I had no idea where it came from.

I recently upgraded my system to a Maximus VII Formula and a 4790k. Everything seems to be running normal, accept I just BSOD'd. Right after POSTing, in-between booting Windows, I received this: http://i.imgur.com/aG6KoIw.jpg What caused this? How do I access the memory dump that was created? Could this occur again, or is it a possibly one-time thing? I am very concerned as of yet. I have reset and booted again and it did not occur, but I am wary of doing again because I am afraid I might encounter it again. Edit: I did boot up again. It did not occur, however, I am still very wary and quite scared to say the least. The last thing I did directly prior to the BSOD (before shutting down system) was run 3Dmark Firestrike. Everything seemed normal there. I turned system on again, boom, BSOD. I am not overclocked on my 4790k, and really, I see no indication of anything being wrong. I even ran a full scan of Malwarebytes to verify. Nothing. I am dazed... Please note that I am running the same copy of Windows 7 as I did with my old 3770k and Z77 board (Sabertooth Z77). The upgrade to Z97 and Devil's Canyon was over two weeks at this point, and the new hardware was detected completely fine. Everything was recognised right off the bat. I just needed to install the Mobo drivers and re-verify Windows. I still have no reason to believe this BSOD is related to my hardware changes. Could it be this BSOD is possibly just a false-positive or unrelated to anything? A false alarm?

This is real, I don't mean to spam by this. I just fought off an army of moths! I was about to fall asleep, when I suddenly heard a strange, high-pitched noise. I looked up at the walls. There were probably about 15-20 moths! They were buzzing and flopping about! I initially used my PCGamer magazine to crush them, but it wasn't very effective. Same thing with the Kjell & Company catalogue. I then took my green sweater and it worked much better! However, there were a few times where they flew away and into me before I could crush them. They flew in a circular motion, attacking me. All of the moths that I didn't crush initially did this. It was very uncomfortable. While crushing moths, I remembered my Axe body spray and eventually found it in one of my drawers. The thought was to use this as a toxin or a suffocant towards the bugs, but it had more of that effect on me, instead. There weren't just moths. There were about 50-100 small bugs, jittering about the ceiling. The spray had somewhat of an effect on them, better than on the moths, but it seemed a very ineffective weapon. I didn't have much left in it, either. So after much paranoia and decituple checking every inch of the room, I finally settled back into bed, about 30 minutes later. As I opened LTT to start writing about this, I got distracted by a devilishly loud noise. It sounds as though the original source of that sound is still producing sound, sounding very much like a car. This is rather odd, as where I'm sleeping currently is very secluded from people, so a car standing passively and making noise wouldn't be from some strangers. There are cars here, but I wonder who and why would sit in a car at 20 past 1 at night, doing nothing. I'd guess suicide, were it not for the lack of garages here. Has happened before. I attribute the bugs to having left the window open, while neglecting taking out the garbage. Either way, this was really scary. Have any of you experienced something like this before? Please tell me. Thanks. Edit: I soak in the blood of my enemies.

Hello guys. Today something really weird occurred. Just when I wope up, I noticed that my pc has its DVD drive ejected. But... I wasn't using it for past few weeks and certainly not yesterday. My first question is. How the heck can I check when did it eject? the only time it had was when I went to sleep and left the desktop powered on till torrent finishes downloading. Second question: How did it eject. I mean, it never ever happened before. And also, can the dvd drive get damaged by being left wide open for night? I just ordered GTA V for pc and it would be a pain in the wallet to buy another drive after this one tried commiting suicide. Cheers and thanks for every response.

So today I was board and decided to throw my Intel 775 ATX motherboard in the dishwasher because it was dirty as hell. Dried it out with air compressor and a hair dryer and the baby fired right up! Was a fun experience actualy but I would still not do it with a board you care a lot about or does not need to be clean in a "hardcore" manner. I will be using this board in a Pentium D 945 build later this week. (The beer can gives a hint of where I live!) Nice and Wet

Linus, I had a dream about you and Slick last night. You, me, and him were all on a sail boat in the ocean (I don't know why) and we crash and you and me collect scraps to build our own bucket to float away in that has stuff like a jacket and floaties (I have no idea where Slick went) So we're floating along collecting trash and scraps of the ship when we stumble upon two huge pirate ships. One was on fire at the front of the boat cowarding away and the others were about to board the other ship. We take our boat up to the "winning" boat with the other ship and somehow walk from our boat to theirs and we say that we can help them and they start chasing us. We take wood off of their boat as ores and use it to paddle back a short distance to shore. We're in a grocery store (I think it's Target) and the dock is the salad aisle. We're just chilling in that aisle and the pirates start shooting melon canons at us and Slick is just standing in the place that holds the salad, cucumbers, bananas, etc., like actually inside of it standing in the structure of it, and he says "Run, Linus, Run." and that's where it ended. Whoa. Sorry if it's confusing, it is for me, too, and it doesn't help that I just woke up from it.

Hello, just built my first PC, got a AMD Athlon 760k for my CPU and I got a Cooler Master 212 EVO to deal with AMD's cooling problems with its processor. I turn on the computer, and open Windows 8.1. I go to the temps and they are 55, next time I look their at 80, then down to 73, down to 49, and back up. This is happening when it's idle, it even got up to 91 degrees which scared the hell outta me. Funny thing is, my case seems pretty cold every other component is below 30 degrees, but the CPU is just going everywhere. Perhaps the CPU cooler wasn't good enough, or I just need to reassemble the cooler, and to let you know, I used Arctic Silver thermal paste instead of the normal cooler master one that gave. The temperature varies from 49-91 degrees Celsius, at 91 I usually just restart the computer to avoid damage. Thank you to all who may respond
