Okay so I've physically installed my 250GB Samsung 850 EVO into my PC & it's only being partly detected. It shows up in the very first screen of my BIOS but not under the Boot Tab for a third device, when I try to enable a third device it just repeats my HDD & CDROM options but not anything named Samsung. I figured maybe the Magician software needed to be installed but both that & my Windows 7 SP1 don't detect it inside the OS. It's an ASUS M4n68T-M-V2 Motherboard, what am I doing wrong? *EDIT: Going to re-enter BIOS now & take some more notes on the settings in case it's needed to help y'all help me.

Literally all day for the past 9 hours I've been trying to perform an SSD upgrade, which I was told over & over to be the simplest of tasks. Yet no matter what I try I'm running into countless issues, none of which I don't think I can call the company over as they'll likely just give me some marketing speak to buy some proprietary USB cable or use the disk that contains outdated software which would likely corrupt something, all of which I don't need. So now I'll explain what I've done & the issues in depth, sorry if this is a long post but it needs to be clear. As always, I was told to disregard the Disk that came with my 250GB Samsung 850 EVO as installing the outdated software on it, then trying to update said software can result in corruptions. So I just mounted the SSD, plugged in the SATA power & SATA 3 cable to my SATA 2 Motherboard, triple checked all the connections to ensure they were 100% seated (spent 2.5 hours on this) & then booted my PC. After taking pics of my BIOS just in case I then proceeded to initialize my SSD in Windows Disk Management as instructed by various online sources. Following this I was told to create a "New Simple Volume..." via that same tool, this is where I encountered the first failure. No matter what I did the RAW SSD refused to format when quick format was selected. Desperate I tried unchecking that box which resulted in what I think to be a long format. This then hung & refused to finish or cancel no matter how long I waited, so I restarted my PC & it finally stopped. After this point I finally found out that I needed Samsung's Data Migration Software in order to mirror my OS & everything to the new drive in a much simpler manner. So I downloaded that started the cloning process. It failed & gave me an error saying "Cloning failed. An error occurred during defragmentation. 301400[049958]". After clicking complete (the only option available) it then asked if I wanted to automatically restart & run a chckdsk which I said yes. That then ran & completed fairly quickly, the only thing I saw that sounded bad was "43 reparsed records processed". I tried cloning it again & the same thing happen, so now I'm fed up & really need some dumbed down help because I'm tried of making bad decisions on my own. 1a: Were my failed attempts at formatting the brand new drive via Windows what caused a corruption that's resulting in cloning failures? 1b: If not then what is & what the heck do I do? (My HDD is almost 6 years old so I'd like to get this fixed ASAP before it goes out & I'm left helpless). 2a: If the solution is to clean install Windows but to the new SSD then clone that to my HDD, how can I know I won't encounter the same or more issues that will keep me offline for months? 2b: I'm assuming the worst of that above because of what I've experienced so far & the fact my OS is an OEM Copy, could that in itself be the cause of cloning failure? 3: If I should just forget about this all together, how can I ensure my SSD doesn't have anything on it so I can put it away for new build in 2+ months? I need help deciding which SSD would be a better option for my HTPC/Console Killer that I will be building this Christmas. I've narrowed my options down to two different drives but I'm not really sure which would be the best. It's the only drive going in the case so of course it has to be somewhat spacious but I would also like it to be fast and reliable. The two drives are the... Crucial MX300 750GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820156124&cm_re=crucial_mx300-_-20-156-124-_-Product I chose this drive because it seems to have decent speeds, it comes in 750GB with "530 MB/s write speed and 510 MB/s read speeds" but I have seen no real information on how well this drive actually does since it's somewhat new. So if anyone has any opinions on this drive could please help? the other drive Samsung 850 EVO 500GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373&cm_re=samsung_850_evo-_-20-147-373-_-Product Obviously this is the most popular and most trusted drive on the market write when it comes to Sata drives. Everyone knows what it's capable of but it has only 500GB compared to the crucial drive. So which drive would be better for this use? Both are $170 on newegg so there no price difference whatsoever. Just space and speeds are the only difference besides some internal technology that they use.

I'm a cheapskate so i'm buying a 850 evo second hand. I don't have any spare SATA Data cables so I was wondering if there were any good sellers of SATA cables which don't look ugly like those ones with the white and red cables. Just plane black will be fine. Thank you.

Specs i7 4790k asus z97 pro gamer 24gb 1866 ram gtx 1070 1tb hdd 120gb wd ssd (new) 250gb samsung 850 evo (dead?) All drive hooked up but samsung 850 evo not detected on bios http://imgur.com/ayLK9iw So I was on vacation for 3 weeks then when I got home I was surprised because when I tried to open my pc, it was automatically boot on bios. My boot drive was the Samsung 850 evo and the bios wont detect it.. I tried all this and nothing works: Updating the bios resetting CMOS resetting Bios setting tried the ssd power cycle remove all other drives except the ssd I was very frustrated so I bought new SSD ,the WDC green 120gb ssd. Then I tried to install windows 8.1 and I was very surprised because samsung 850 evo was detected on installation drive list. here is the image: http://imgur.com/GWuRCL7 it said windows can't be installed there so I was hoping that it can be saved by windows repair by refreshing it but unfortunately it said the DRIVE WAS LOCKED? here is the image: http://imgur.com/eQeshEF I remove the sata cable from Samsung 850 evo and tried to install windows on the new SSD with no problem. when I'm booting windows with samsung 850 evo hooked up it causing me infinite loop on windows logo so I remove it and windows boot with no problem. Before I leave for vacation the SSD stats on SAMSUNG magician was, health is GOOD and it has 24TB of writes It was a hassle to RMA on samsung because they said you need the receipt of the drive before they will service you(i already lost it). I was disappointed because I thought to them was like Seagate don't need any proof of purchase to RMA their drive. So anyone is there away to save my samsung ssd? eveyhelp will be appreciated. I'm looking to replace my old (dying) 1TB mechanical with a 1TB SSD and i've heard about Samsung evo's everywhere. Is there a reason why they're so popular? Even Linus has featured them on many of his videos. Amazon, Scan and many other retailers have them as the most popular sata SSD. I just want to know if they are as good as they are popular. What makes then stand out against other sata SSD's? Also is it worth getitng the PRO version of the 850 over the normal EVO? From what I understand the only difference is that the PRO version will last x2 as long and has a 10 year warrenty. I'm not even sure if £100 extra for the PRO is even worth it. Thanks.

Hello there, I need to choose between the crucial mx300 525gb and the samsung 850 evo 250gb. (I live in Greece so there is a pretty big difference in the price of the 850 evo 500gb and the 250gb 850 evo). I know the 850 evo is better according to benchmarks but I'm wondering if the speed difference is noticeable in everyday tasks. So should i go for the extra 250gb space of the mx300 or should i settle for the faster 250gb 850 evo?

Hi everyone. Currently, I have an ASUS ROG G751-JT laptop that came with a 1TB HDD SATA III bay and a second hard drive bay (Which I've learned is SATA II for who knows why) that came as a use for upgrading later. I recently ordered a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD SATA III and would like to use it as my startup drive and to put some games and programs on there which could heavily benefit from the SSD, My question is, how should I go about transferring over my operating system (Windows 10) to the SSD if I am not replacing the hard drive with the SSD? My goals are to have both the HDD a SSD (SSD as startup and important programs, HDD as storage for games and other programs). The HDD is in the SATA III bay while the empty bay is SATA II. With my SSD being SATA III, I plan to swap the hard drive with the SSD so the hard drive sits in the empty SATA II bay. My hard drive is currently partitioned into a C: and D:. While I have more data than my SSD can hold if I have to clone the whole drive, the partition that Windows is on is only 300GB which fits in my SSD. However, my D: drive is mostly full and I would have to delete some programs if I "have" to clone the whole drive. My main questions with this process are: Do I need to clone the whole HDD to my SSD or can I clone just the C: partition which has Windows on it? Do I need a SATA to USB connector if I am not replacing my drives and rather just installing an SSD into an empty slot and moving Windows? How would I go about swapping my SSD and HDD with each other (If the difference between SATA II and SATA III is even worth it)? Would I clone Windows onto the SSD with the Samsung software, shut down, and swap around the HDD and SSD? Apologies if I have worded my situation weird. This is my first SSD and first time doing cloning/transferring of any kind so I'm still researching how the process works.

OS: Windows 10, 64 Bit CPU: i7-4790K GPU: GTX 980 SSD: Samsung 850 Evo PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 850w I have gone through a lengthy set of tests with Microsoft Support, including an OS Refresh, to no avail. I was originally there for another reason, but this issue got in their way quite a few times, and even disconnected me from them at one point. I ran CDM and CDI, and they both seem to show that the SSD is running fine. If you are wondering about the 0.000 spots on CDM, I clicked STOP and waited about 30 seconds for it to stop because it was THAT unresponsive. <<< I do not know what is causing Task Manager to see the Disk as if it were hitting 100%, but if it is at 100% and only about 0.5MB/s is being used, it will still be as unresponsive as if it were at 100% while doing 200MB/s, or even higher as CDM shows. I have watched Task Manger and it is literally every time it says the Disk is at 100%. >>> Update: This portion doesn't seem to be a problem anymore, even though Task Manager still shows the Disk being at 100% at times still. The CDM picture was taken with R.A.P.I.D. Mode turned on (I turned it on for testing purposes, and thought something was a little odd), but even still, I decided to reinstall Samsung Magician in case I had an outdated version. After reinstalling it, it no longer happens every time it hits 100% in Task Manager, but it does still happen, even with it being as low as 0.4MB/s. I am going to uninstall Samsung Magician entirely to see if that solves the issue. I have uninstalled Samsung Magician and... So far no problems. This is interesting. At this point, I am pointing my finger at Samsung Magician. You will see two graphs on Task Manager, and one shows 0KB/s Read and 0KB/s Write. This was when Samsung Magician was installed and I was running CDM. The second graph was when I closed CDM, which took about 30 seconds to do and looks more standard for usage. What does Samsung Magician do to cause that to happen? It seems useful to have installed (Especially because of Over Provisioning), but the problems it seems to cause are just not worth it. Is there a way to fix this problem that Samsung Magician seemingly causes? TL;DR - I started typing this when I felt like I was out of options, then I thought "Wait, there's one thing I haven't tested", so this changed from trying to find out what was causing the issue, to believing the one thing that supports the SSD is what causes it, and how to prevent it from causing it when installed. That's some irony.

Recently decided to bench my ssd and it came back with some strange results (at least to my eyes). The drive is rated for around 520mb/s read/write but is hitting nearly 6 times that on the sequential read and write. Is this a glitch? or am I just not understanding how to read the test...

Hello guys! In March 2017, I built my first ever custom pc. It's got an Asus z170 pro gaming, Gtx 1080 Strix overclocked , i7@6700K, 16gb HyperX Fury Black, 250gb Samsung 850 evo and and a 2tb Western Digital Black HDD. I was very proud when I built it. Got over 60fps on all titles on ultra settings. It was good times. A few months later, 3 to be exact, I used to install games that have longer loading times on my SSD, but the games installed on that SSD got some really weird lag problems. GTA V, for example, used to get 80+ fps on ultra settings, but then, all of the sudden, I couldn't get above 40. When I tried installing it on the HDD, I immediately got the normal fps I would get - 80+ fps. I didn't think much and jumped to the conclusion my SSD had some stupid virus, so I quickly went ahead and reinstalled windows. Naturally, GTA V got 80+ fps again. This lag problem happened about 5 months ago A month ago, I decided I wanted to try the GTA V REDUX mod, so I installed GTA V again, this time on my HDD, installed openIV, backed up my game and installed REDUX. It hurt my fps a little. I also tend to use V-sync now, since I only have a 60 hz monitor. Today, I wanted to play GTA V again, so I started the game, took longer to load then usual, only to get greeted by the same lag problem I had a couple of months back. This time my fps maxes out at 47, and in the city it's an absolute tragedy to play. Also tried COD WW2 - same problem. Used to get solid 60fps with V-sync, can't get over 30fps today. My GPU's fans also seemed to work their asses off a little harder than usual, so I decided to look at my overclocking program (the one Asus makes for their StriX cards). This is what I was greeted by: What this means, is that my GPU is constantly using the max amount of GPU clock and Memory clock it can provide. Further more, also says the the memory usage is quite high up as well (1769, cause it has to have a 69 in it, to irritate me more). Unfortunately I don't have any games installed on my SSD, and I don't have the time to install any on it, so I can't test if the problem comes from the HDD or anywhere else. I did try to defragment my HDD, but that didn't help. So this is where I stand right now - I have literally no idea what to do, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to reinstall windows again.

I have been running an 850 Evo for almost a year and all of a sudden my computer started freezing up. It starts by not being able to open programs and then windows hangs. It started earlier today and happens randomly. It has happened about 5 times now. Is this a sign my ssd is dying?

Hello there, Could someone help me choose. The Samsung 850 EVO is a really populair and good ssd. I choose the 750 evo one to spair money. But i thought "what if the 850 evo is just really overpriced, what if there is one as good as or better than the 850 evo for less money?" so i searched on tweakers (the site i use for pc specs) and saw this https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/compare/525471;422395/ The crucial one is just 2 euro more than the 750 evo, it has 275 gb aka 15 gb more. I am not a pro in ssds but is the Crucial MX300 better than the Samsung 850 EVO? or same performance? is the Crucial MX300 better than the 750 evo? Also, The Crucial MX300 has more extra good things as it can handle a max of 220tb (in hes whole lifetime) and the 850 evo just 75 tb. This one is good for electricity holding too (it doesnt spend much electricity as the 850 does) lol english 8/8 Thanks for reading and maybe helping.

I have just been on vacation for 10 days, before i went away i turned of the power for my PC. When i came home i tried to start it and it was not able to fin my OS, it had also changed my Boot Device Priority. So i changed it back to normal, and i tried to start it again. This time it would not Boot as it was not able to find a proper Bood device. Even thou i changed it back to my SSD that was supposed to have my OS on it. I know that there are people on these forum that are way more tech savy than i am, and i would like to know if any one of you had any idea to what might be the problem?? In advance thank you! First off: This has been going on for months, I've just been too lazy to give it a try again. I have 4 drives. 2 HDD's amd 2 SSD's. One SSD is for my OS, one is for games and other software. HDD's are for storage, not RAID. The thing is.. My startup times are well over a minute, and myy SSD's are both 850 Evo's. Times like those shouldn't even be on the charts! I have 3 softwares on startup, so that is not a factor. What confuses me the most is that I tried unplugging both my HDD's.. And my startup time increased (or should I say decreased?) from over a minute to less than 30 seconds. This is very weird considering I only have the boot drive active during startup, set it up in bios. My HDD's are however quite old, past their expiration date one might say. Could that be the cause? They are terribly slow when the PC is running normally. Thoughts?

Hi there, I have just installed a new SSD (250GB) as my boot drive (My main storage drive is a 1TB HDD), and I cloned my Windows install from the latter to the former. I would like some tips on what I can do to clean up now that I've got a windows install on both drives. I only really want a few games (and the windows install) on the SSD, and I want to have everything install/save onto the HDD by default. The SSD is a Samsung 850 Evo, the HDD is a Seagate Barracuda - the only other relevant spec I can think of is my motherboard - an MSI 970 gaming (in case I need to change anything in the BIOS). Thank you in advance, TealHoneyBadger

Hi, I have an ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 with 3x Samsung 850 EVO's connected to ports 1,2,3 they are setup in RAID 0, and the array shows as "functional" but it isnt detected by Windows installer, even when the driver is loaded, tried multiple drivers from ASUS. i have even resorted to setting ports 5+6 to IDE and installing windwos on a normal sata disk to see if windows will see the array in disk management, it doesnt, but does show the raid card as installed in device manager. also tried caddying the SSDs and making sure they are ok, then setting them to GPT and rebuilding the raid again. any ideas as to why I cant see the RAID volume anywhere? i am totally stuck!!! thanks.

Hi, I got the Samsung 850 Evo 250gb model to store my OS and programs on for my computer. I noticed in the Samsung Magician software that there is an option called RapidMode. Is it worth it to turn it on? Will it improve program loading speeds? FYI I have 4x4gb sticks of RAM installed in my system.

Hi guys, I just planned on buying a Lenovo y500 laptop and i figured that the ssd was a Samsung 128 gb MZNLN128HCGR-000L2 SSD. I want to upgrade this boot drive with the samsung 850 evo M.2 256 gb option and use that 128 drive in this startech enclosure. My plan is to buy this laptop, m.2 enclosure and this m.2 850 evo, clone the bootdrive via usb and then replace the original m.2 with the 850 evo. I plan on cloning this 850 evo via this m.2 enclosure and then i will use the 128 gb samsung drive as a external storage device (with usb 3.0 uasp) My questions are: 1. does this M.2 850 evo come with the samsung migration software (i've never done something like this before so i think the samsung software will help) 2.If not what should i use and do? 3. About that enclosure, i thought it is aluminum. now i dont know how these enclosures work but i'm pretty sure that Drives do not like any static electricity and/ or any short circuits. How does a aluminum enclosure affect this aspect? I dont want these drives to die as soon as i put one in it. So sorry for this long post and some bad english^^ I'm shenkie from Holland and please help me, if you do you will be my hero !!
