Hey So Um A Few Days Ago My Display Randomly Went Black. I UnPlugged And Replugged The Pc Into The Mains And It Turned on but Soon Again it Turned Off I Could See The Keyboard RGB On And The Mouse's Too So Were The Lights On The Fans In MY Chassis But No Display Showed. I Could Even Hear The Audio From The Pc I Tried Some Trouble Shooting My Self. Changed The PCIe Slot And Tried To Clean The GPU A Bit (Just Dusting Under The Fans) I Have A i5 4690 So It Has A iGPU And It Works I PLugged My Display Into The Mobo And I Got A Display I Noticed That The Fan On The GPU Itself Not The One On The AIO The One On The GPU Was Going Crazy I Reinsalled The Drivers And It Booted with Display From The GPU.It Turns On But But When I Tried To Run 3D Mark's Performance Test It Crashed And It Didn't Work Again Sadly. I Am A 14 Year Old HighSchool Kid And Cant Afford A New GPU Heck I Cant Even Afford A Used 1050 Ti At This Point So I Really Need This Back xD Well Hope Me The Best And Thank You For Your Help -Void

Hey Guys, I Have A Old Laptop (Hp Elitebook 2560p With a i5 2450M) with Upgraded 16 gigs ddr3 Ram And I Have Recently Gotten My Hands On A Amd R9 295x2 And a Thermal-take Tough power 1275 W Psu And I Was Wondering If I Can Hook Up This Graphics Card With My Laptop Via a Expgdc Egpu Dock (Using The Mini-PcIe Version). If You See Some Obvious Compatibility Issues Please Comment. -Void

Hi, my setup is as follows: ASUS Maximus 8 Hero i7 6700k not overclocked XFX Core Edition Radeon R9 295X2 (puchased 2015) Seasonic Focus+ Gold 850w Windows 10 Pro (whatever the newest update is that was released recently, I updated the day of or just after) Few days ago, 295x2 started acting up. Highly similar to what this poster says http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2718235/cutting-seconds-ati-295x2-psu.html although no kernel power entry in the event log. Day before it started acting up, it was fine, gamed for hours no problem. Next day start up the computer, gets to Windows login screen, boom, loses display, fans ramp up. Computer is still on but no display out, just nothing. A few more restart attempts and I was able to get into Windows but for not more than 2 minutes before it displayed the aforementioned symptoms. No BSOD to speak of at any point (looked in minidump and it is empty) Swapped out the 295X2 for one of my stalwart GTX 670 4GBs, and the computer is fine and is what I am typing to you on at this moment. So what is the problem? Did the cooler/pump/etc die and its thermal throttling and shutting down? Or did a GPU or something more irreplaceable give up the ghost? I am weary of spending any more money on this card (A $1500 graphics card should last longer than 3 years, I mean come on) but I have a lead on a new stock cooling system for it (the pumps, rad etc, it would be a drop-in replacement) for $50. I am considering just saving money and dealing with my 670s until the 1180 comes out...

Are dual GPU cards capable of high end gaming in 2018?
Lord Athetos posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Are cards like the titan Z, or the 295x2 worth buying in 2018 for 1440p or 4k? And what about dual titan Z ir 295x2? I know quad SLI/CF configurations are not worth buying, but what if you could get one por two of these cards cheap enough? And how do these cards compare to actual graphics cards? -
So i created this account for this post. Hello. So my friend recently offered to sell me his used 295X2 and his PSU for it for $375 What he offered R9 295X2 2 years old Seasonic Platinum 860W (basically new) My System i5 6400 EVGA 600B Radeon 7870 (old but i want to replace it) 16 GB RAM MSI PC MATE H170 Fractal Design R5 So should i take the R9 295X2 or get something like a 1070 or the 490 when it comes out? i know the 295X2 is old, but its still 2 290X's in crossifre. that has to have some power behind it thank you for your time

Lately Ive been messing with my pc a bit so I though my GPU might need a repaste (1-2 years old). My r9 295x2 runs cool enough with 2 fans (usually 68-70 °C tops with my fan curve) and stock clock (although memory is oced a bit and its undervolted by 40 mV), but review units seem to run several °C cooler usually. Running aida64 for 15-20 minutes on fixed fan speed gave me a max of 73°C (22.5°C ambient) on gpu2 (it gets the hot water from gpu 1) and a tiny bit of throttling from 1018 mhz down to 1002 mhz at times or so. Ive never used any of the supposedly amazing metal thermal pastes, so i though I might as well give it a try and use the nice stuff. Also I replaced the vrm thermal pads with some 1.5mm 7W/mK phobia ones. From the reviews I expected a 2-10°C temp drop, Id say 4 °C would be worth the bother. Lets see if 9 euro for 0,15ml of thermal paste is money well spend. To be honest the thermal paste job from sapphire is not bad, the paste is still malleable and not dry. The thermal paste layer is also not overly thick. The vrm thermal pad is only 1mm thick I think and very soft, almost pasty. I couldnt even get it off in one piece. The new pads on the heatsink, shiny white and new :D. After cleaning I put about 15 ul(0.015ml) CLU on the left and 10 ul on the right (very big, 438 mm^2) gpu die. (I thought some would get absorbed by the brush) I cut the hairs of one of the uncluded brushes short, which made the application very easy. It was pretty much like painting the gpu. All shiny and chrome, you can maybe see there is a bit less CLU on the right gpu Still quite alot left in the tube and very little stuff on the brush. Time to measure some temps, launching Afterburner I was immediately pleased to so the temp on gpu 1 at 28 °C. normally it would be 10°C hotter on a cold start. Launching aida 64 showed a problem though: My second gpu is a whole 12 °C hotter than gpu1, pretty much like with the stock paste in terms of thermals. I did put a bit less on the second gpu, so I opened the card up again to reapply a bit. Looking at the cooler surface it doesnt even seem like the blacks made proper contact, even though temps were superb on gpu 1. I was to lazy to clean the blocks, so I just spread it the CLU that was on there into the shape of the die and painted an additional 5-10 ul on each of the gpus. Time to test again, after 15-20 minutes of aida64 with fixed fanspeed and 22-23 °C ambient Some spikes to 63°C on the second gpu later on. 10 °C shaved off flat, Im happy :D. There was also 0 throttling. The vrm thermal pads dont seem to have made quite such a big difference, I can lower the vrm fan speed by 5% now without the gpu throttling though, so thats something. After ending aida 64 the gpu temps only decreased rapidly for a few °C, seems like the water is not that much cooler than the gpus now. For any further cooling optimisation id probably have to got some more radiator space in the closed loop somehow. For now it seems Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra is pretty awesome, at least if you put it directly on the cpu or gpu die. If the temps deteriorate over time Ill let you know, for now I think I can give a recommendation. Results: 10°C lower temps Advice: 1. Cut the hairs on your brush short, its easier to apply and wont suck up your expensive thermal paste this way. 2. If you want to use a metal paste, Liquid Ultra is very easy to apply. Ive heard Liquid Pro can be a bit hard to apply. 3. At least for a profiled copper block id say use 5ul (0,005ml, 0,5 on the syringe) per 100 mm^2 of your cpu or gpu die. Everything should be covered with a shiny, wet looking metal layer, if it looks dull like a scatched open product code you probably need a little more). This seems to work well and also has the advantage of making the syringe last for 10-15 gpus or cpus, I still have 120ul left. 4. NEVER make a mess with Liquid Ultra or any other kind of liquid metal thermal paste. Its main ingredience is gallium (alloyed with a bunch of other metals with a graphite matrix), so it will eat through aluminium like you wouldnt believe and will conduct electricity extremely well. 5. I know people like the dot method and stuff, dont do that with this stuff. You have to spread it thinly with the brush, if you do a dot it will form liquid metal beads that could slip anywhere and kill your pc. Its a gallium based thermal paste, not a silicone based one like the regular pastes.

So a while ago a did a very reasonable cpu/gpu matchup and stuffed a r9 295x2 in my media rig with an q6600 and a 650w psu to see if it does even make a difference compared to a 570..... I sayd id run the benchmarks again with the 6600k, so lets see how much of a difference a single letter really makes. .....alot apparently, the difference was almost as big as the difference in pcmark score. Interestingly the overclock only seemed to make a 10% difference or so at most despite 20%-30% better performance, its appears to be very hard to get cpu bottlenecked with a recent i5 at least in those games. If you look at the q6600 columns, considering the r9 295x2 should get about tripple the framerate of the overclocked gtx 570 in those games, id advise against building a rocket tricycle and pairing an r9 290 even with an overclocked q6600 (even though they like to do it in scrapyard wars). Something like a 2gb 7850 would probably get you very similar performance for a fraction of the price, which would still be better than console performance.

Sorry new to the forum but a long time watcher of LinusTechTips on youtube way back. I bought a r9 295x2 last year during tax season. Throughout the year and also within the last few months, i have put this card in a Corsair 250D since march of 2015 and sometimes would hit the thermal limit on one or even more than one gpu on the card. Taking a long time in researching over the last few months I'd rather not go into full loop watercooling. I work as a part time and as a college student and I do not have the time to invest into a watercooled system. I take and move the computer around usually on a weekly basis and that is why it is in a small case. I have 2 performance edition SP120s in push pull pushing air out the front of the case. So i had researched and from what i can tell, the asetek cooler that is on the 295x2 is very if not the same as the h55 cooler from corsair. From the picture, i'm wondering if the h55 can be screwed in the same way. If you have a r9 295x2 and did something like this, let me know how it is. I'll need to install 2 to the card. I'll be keeping the central red fan to cool the vram but want to know if this will be better than doing a full waterloop for the GPU in that small of a case. If you have suggestions about using a waterblock instead and doing a loop, try to give me a budget.

Hey guys, I'm not quite ready to make the jump to a custom watercooling loop on the R9 295x2, but I'd really like to do something to hide the ugly top of it. I'm making a bunch of aesthetic improvements to the case and will be carbon fibre-ing the interior. I was wondering two things: 1. Could I put an EK or XSPC backplate on top of the card (with heat pads)? EK ones are hard to find and I'm not sure I can attach it with the existing shroud still on. 2. Could I cover it with Carbon Fibre adhesive, or will this inhibit the cooling capability? Any ideas or help is very much appreciated.

Hey guys, I recently purchased an R9 295X2, and am now about to buy a ASUS PQ312QE. However, I have come to realise that I will need to use MST to run 60 Hz through DP 1.2 as the monitor utilizes 2 controllers. Will I be able to do this directly from the card or do I need a hub or anything? This specific monitor only has 1 port, and is a full size DP 1.2. Best regards

hey guys. I have Samsung U28E850R and r9 295x2 graphic card. I enabled freesync in amd cotrol panel and in the monitors settings. the monitor is connected with miniDP to DP that came with the monitor. For some reason i cant enable freesync in the windmill demo. I tryed the windmill demo also with crossfire disable and still the same.

ok I'm going to list 2 separate builds ( one is mine and one is a friends ) #1 (mine) Mobo Gigabyte UD4H - Z87 , I7 4770k (stock speed) , Gskill Ripjaw 1600mhz 16gb ram , R9 295x2 xfx , 1000w ocz PSU , Creative soundblaster z card . Samsung 840 ssd. Kraken x61 this build runs fine most of the time , once in awhile from boot I get low fps with stutter . most often runs like a charm #2 (friends) Gigabyte UD4h - Z87 , I7 4770k (stock speed) , Corsair Vengance 1600mhz 16gb ram , R9 295x2 xfx , 1300w EVGA PSU , uses onboard sound , Samsung 840 ssd , thermaltake extreme 3.0 His build runs awful constant stutter low fps and a strange crankle in sound when playing anything. Have used both the beta and normal drivers for these cards . I would bsod with the beta drivers so I went back to the normal . Both systems scored high on benchmarks. but his barely runs , usualy always low fps and stutters . I get it once in awhile . not sure what to do and just to add he had the sound issue through his 7970's in xfire , is it his motherboard pcie slot . drivers . ask anything you need to know so you guys can help me further.

Hi there! I am planning on building a new/first PC and have a approx budget of 1300 euro +/- (exl, tax), I want to do 1440p or 2160 gaming. So far I plan to use a i5 4690 (not K) with a r9 295x2 I dont play the most demanding games/AAA titles but do not want to consider my system when wasting money on steam sales. So the question is does the r9 295x2 tip the balance and should I get a more expensive CPU or is it ok? Thanks in advance!

So, from a purely performance/price to performance point, what is better? I will be using them for 1080p at first, but 1440p later.... The 295x2 I have been looking at is the Sapphire Radeon R9 295X2.

Hi there! I am planning on building a new computer, it will house a r9 295 x2 intel i5-4690k and 2 modules of ram (maybe more later), a fan or two. Now then as linus would say, 'to power this sucker there is a' psu, however which one. I have looked at several and haven't really found and that 'fits the shoe'. Anyway thanks a ton in advance, and sorry if my poetic desires annoyed you.

Hello I need to find a somewhat cheap psu that will be compatible with the r9 295x2. So no platinum 1500 watts or so (Im doing researh for a friend) Thanks

Hi, I installed OSX on my PC a few months ago to find out my R9 295X2 was not supported so OSX displays in a really low resolution. I have since found this video which shows the R9 290/X working in OSX. I was wondering if there would be a way to make the R9 295X2 work with OSX even if it was just one of the GPUs so that I could use OSX in my native resolution (3440x1440). I personally prefer OSX to Windows so please don't tell me just to stick to Windows because I use both. I use Windows for gaming and programmes not supported for OSX. All of my PC's components are officially compatible with OSX apart from my GPU, so I was wondering if anyone could help me to get it working properly. This is the video which shows the R9 290/X operating in OSX Yosemite PC Spec: i7 4930k @4.5Ghz 8GB Ripjaws Z Ram R9 295X2 850w coolermaster v850 PSU Asus X79 Deluxe Motherboard

[Planning] I need help solving a space issue.
lookaquarter posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
So, I've decided most of the components I want in a new build. However, two of these parts, the gpu, a r9 295x2 and the case, a Corsair 240 air carbide, on paper, do not fit together. Here are the links to the products on pcpartpicker: Case: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-cc9011070ww GPU: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9295x8qfa I think they can fit however, because the 11.42 in videocard limit on the case, is not including the space in the front of the case included for a 240mm radiator. I wanted to ask some smarter folk about this, to see what others may think would work. At the moment, the only way to those two parts fit, would be to go with a non-watercooled cpu cooler, and mount the gpu cooler to the upper front of the case, and possibly mount a single fan below it if that fits. However, I'd rather the watercooled cpu if possible. Thanks for reading and I'm eagerly waiting for any creative/uncreative solutions you guys may have for this problem. (This may be important, my entire build planned so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/lookaquarter/saved/LLC9TW)- 5 replies
