Please note that more rank(s) and/or more sticks of RAM will affect maximum speed of the DDR4, a quad rank will give worst overclocking results. More ranks better how ever max speed may be reduced, quad-rank memory sticks are NOT supported on a consumer grade motherboards!!! >w< What a quad-rank stick looks like. Edit 2: Rambling about DDR4 memory channels and ranks - YouTube More detailed information. ((also beware some 16GB sticks can be single rank))

Quad-core or Hexa-core for my toaster?
Nena Trinity posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I am worried about thermals here currently it has a GTX 970 and I will replace it for a Vega 56 later... I think it will fit? Barely maybe? The main goal is to make a PC capable to run all games next Gen can toss at it! The only issue is should I go a quad-core or hexa core? I am thinking wait for 4000 series because 5nm rumor to prevent it from killing itself due to heat but... (which Zen 3 would you get?) Athlon X4 880K @4.3GHz (Socket FM2+) DDR3-1866MHz (CL9-10-11-27) MSI GeForce GTX 970 OC Samsung 850 2.5" SSD (500GBx2) Western Digital 2TB 2.5" HDD 1280x1024 Gaming PC (50% less pixels) *First GPU = GeForce GTX 960 (2GB) *First Upgrade = GTX 970 (58% better) *Second Upgrade = Vega 56 (65% better) AMD FX-8370 @4.3GHz (Socket AM3+) DDR3-2133MHz (CL9-11-11-31) Gigabyte Radeon RX Vega 56 Samsung 850 2.5" SSD (500GBx2) Seagate 2TB 3.5" SSHD 1920x1080p Gaming PC *First GPU = GeForce GTX 970 *First Upgrade = RX Vega 56 (65% better) *Second Upgrade = Navi 2nd Gen? -
i'm studying it in highschool. in the hardware class we had the subject about dual chanel and quad chanel memory and the teacher said that you have different ram kits designed for these things and that you should buy them so if you want to install 4 dims into your board you should buy quad chanel and 2 dims buy dual chanel kit. 1st of i dont think that these kits make a difference if you buy a 4x dim kit or 2 times 2x dim kit and also I dont think this is the case. That you have 1 chanel that uses 2 dims and another that uses 2 so if you want to install 4 dims you have dual chanel. and 8 sticks on x99 platform that you use quad chanel. because you can see in cpu-z if you have put in 2 dims it still says dual-chanel Can someone clarify this for me? thanks

Hi,,,I have an asus rampage v edition 10 motherboard and it supports quad channel DIMM system and it has 8 slots,,,i don't have the budget to fill all 8 of them so i decided to buy 4 8GB sticks to fill 4 of them (total 32GB),,,I thought i could use the quad channel feature as long as i fill at least 4 of the slots but then i checked the Gskill site for choosing the sticks (ripjaws v 3200 is the one i want) and according to their site all the quad channel kits have 8 sticks and 4 stick kits are considered dual channel,,,now i'm a little bit confused,,,does quad channel has to be 8 sticks or the Gskill site said this just for the sake of kit completion? thanks...

I want to build a GODLY system computer and I need advice and for someone to point me in the right direction. I either want to build 4/cpu system or a 8 cpu system with all XEON processors and at least 4 Titan's in SLI. Before all of you jump on me and laugh, keep in mind I am fairly new to system builds and am not an expert at all in this field. First of all I was a little disappointed to hear that windows 10 doesn't natively support more than 2 dual physical processors, so my question is, is there a workaround this issue. I'm thinking that there is some type of hack/modification for the end user to use more than 2 physical processors on windows 10, maybe a program (customized OEM of some sort or maybe a program that someone released) or some type of method to get around this issue. I'm sure (giving all the gaming mods and election hacking by the Russians and all the yahoo hacking) that there is some type of way to turn a windows server 2012 edition into a windows 10 version. My second question is: Do anyone know where I can get CUSTOM built motherboards? The reason why I ask is because I realize that I may run into a problem with ECC memory (depending on the configurations). Also, is it possible to order a CUSTOM built mother board capable of running 4 way SLI Titans (and yes, I heard that Nvidia currently only supports 2 way SLI, but I've heard that you can create profiles/hack/modify) without ECC memory?

Hello, So recently my motherboard started dying (ram slots and pci/e sloth) so I decided it was time to change things. I've yet to order them, so I'd be happy to read any advice. A little bit more info - I am a 3d designer and this is my home workstatation (I also game, yes). Was going into a match of Overwatch the other day when the graphics spazzed out, weard colours and stuff and PC restarted. Afterwards it worked, but then this happened - restart into can't pass "starting windows" screen. The moment there is load on the GPU the monitors start searching for source (yeah, does load on safe mode). I changed the sloth for the GPU and it started working again (mind the fact that the resolution was shit, due to no drivers on the sloth maybe?). Same happened a while back for my RAM and I went from 16gb to 8gb, tried swapping it around, didn't work. I know the system is old, that's why my idea is to change the MB, CPU and get ddr4 ram. So the topic title and question (outside from advice in general about my situation): What would be better in such a system - a dual channel 2x16gb 3000 hyperX or go 4x8gb 2666 hyperX savage ? I know there is a difference between dual and quad channel speeds and load allocation(?) but can someone tell me more? Currently I'm dying with: MB - ASRock Extreme4 Z87 CPU - i7 4790k Thinking of getting (budget of about 1250-1400US$) GB X99-Designare EX /LGA2011-v3 i7-6800K /w CM Hyper 612 V2 2x16gb DDR4 3000 Kingston HyperX First time ever I get such problems hence why I don't really know what's going on.

Ok so I want to buy a gtx 1060 and I just would like to know if my system would bottleneck the 1060 in anyway. My specs are: i5-3550 3.3ghz quad core, DDR3 1333mhz CL9, 850w EVGA PSU, some MSI motherboard that i cant find the name but it has a x16 slot, and i have samsung 850 SSDs. My main concern is the CPU and RAM because they are old and slow. I was planning on pairing this with a 1060 and a new monitor but is it a better idea just to upgrade my whole pc? I know the 1060 is a pretty good card and i dont wanna spend $650 on a new GPU and monitor if what i really need is a new CPU.

Hi, I was looking for a cooler to go with my processor upgrade and judging by the coolers specifications, it's recommended for TDP up to 95watts, which is coincidentally the TDP of the intel core 2 quad q9650 I will be getting, so the question is, will any problems arise under high load? it's max cooling capacity is 100w. And I guess overclocking is out of the question? I would use the stock cooler but the cpu is used and it doesn't include it.

Hi. Is it worth performance or whatever to go for 4 sticks of 8 GB in quad channel vs 2 sticks of 16 in dual channel, assuming cpu and motherboard support dual and quad and we are talking about memory kits of the same frequency, voltage, etc. If quad is better, how much gain is there? Thanks!

Hi, please, can someone explain to me why old Q9650 is still more expensive even than i5-3470 even though Q9650 is almos 2 times slower? 320zł = 85,73USD 387zł = 103,67USD

I need new wireless router I used netgear r8000 and I use ddrwt and advance tomatoe and reverse to netgear version kinda killed. I have no wifi and one internet cable as I need allot of wifi devices on it as I live with big familiy two floors as I also game and stream on gig with ultimate plan. The problem the one I like that was less money cost 300 NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR500 WiFi Router duma os vs NETGEAR Nighthawk AX12 12-Stream WiFi 6 Router (RAX120) but it allmost 2 years old as there now 2019 wifi ax are out too so dual core ac or ax wifi who is quad core who also have wifi ax so I wont need to upgrade it as I do use cat6a cables. I have 3.1 modem as I dont use qos as I have gig speed not sure what to buy as it costing 300 and more as that kinda getting close to fancier ax wifi of them as I do live with big familiys on 2 floors and garden outside. Here there also gagabit pro 2 gig services and allmost 5g as I dont buy many as I buy one and keep it until outdated or broken. Which should I buy and why.

Hi guys, So, I am trying to setup a quad GPU build and i unfortunately bought a wrong motherboard as below: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-X399-E-GAMING/ This board is compatible with 3 GPUs as it says on the box but is it possible to perhaps fit one on any of the other slots it has? Below GPUs is what I have bought: https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Gaming-DisplayPort-Graphics-TURBO-GTX1080TI-11G/dp/B06Y31FYWY/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1530640629&sr=1-2-fkmr0&keywords=1080ti%2Bblower%2Bstyle&th=1 Thanks for your input.

Is it possible to run the corsair vengeance rgb pro 4x8gb 3600mhz on the msi b450 tomahawk max. I don't want to have 16x2, because I already have two of the same 8gb corsair sticks? The motherboard itself is dual channel that's why I'm asking.

Wouldn't it be faster?

Hey I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find an answer simple enough to explain it. I am looking at memory for my X399 Aorus Gaming 7 motherboard to be paired with my Threadripper 1950X. Currently I have 2x16GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB 3200Mhz dimms installed. If I were to add two more dimms would that become quad channel? Or does it stay dual channel? Is it the number of dimms/sticks that makes it single, dual, triple, quad, ect channel or is it the way the RAM chips are made? I've been debating if I should add two more of what I have (which is great) or if I should just bite the bullet and get an "official" quad channel kit right out of Newegg. I still know that I can order two more of the same sticks that I have. I am just curious if I would have any issues, if it would only be dual channel, or if it would become quad channel. Also what performance increases would or should I expect if I were to get it into quad channel?

As some of you may have known, my original choice of cooler was a Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi version. Totally not because of PC Building Simulator. Now that I'm comfortable enough with upgrading my PC a bit, I wanted some thoughts from people. Questions specific to those who have/have had a Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi: 1. Was the floating mounting bracket easy to install and were there any problems with cooling because of it? 2. How were the temps? (Please list your CPU) 3. Was it loud at any point? General questions to all: 1. Worth it to go from Cooler Master Hyper 212 to Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi? (I bought my Hyper 212 for £25, a H7 QL would be £67) 2. Anything I should know in terms of size or fan cable connections before I potentially buy? 3. There was a Cryorig H7 Ultra RGB at Computex, should I wait for that instead?

Hello Community, I will be acquiring a 2 x 8gb kit of G-Skill Trident-Z memory for a significantly discounted price that matches my current 8 x 4 kit. This led me to question whether or not to install the new kit and run 48gb triple channel or stick with the 32gb quad channel and set the other aside until I can get another. I did a fair amount of research with little results to sway me one way or the other. I'm leaning toward sticking with the 32gb quad channel simply due to the increased throughput. I just find myself curious whether or not 48 in triple would have any benefits vs 32 in quad (though not likely) if at all. Thanks for any input in advance.

So my friend is picking up a q6700,he's gonna overclock the heck out of it, his mobo does support overclocking, What cooler should he get (can be liquid, just thought air would be better for the price range)

BSEL mod for Intel Core 2 Quad q9650
YourNewPalAlex posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Can you do a bsel mod on a q9650 And make it run 3.66Ghz without overclocking. This is for my friend, he's planning on getting a chip, and i wanna convince him that its better to wait because if there really is a bsel mod, you chould overclock it and hopefully as ive read on the forums, you can achive up to 4.4ghz on all cores with a decent cooler. What are your thoughts?
