I was in the market for a VPN and I decided to try PIA based on LTT's sponsorship. I remembered Linus and James saying "Try it today for 30 days risk free". Well I got it with the intent of getting around Netflix geo restrictions which I did not know before hand it does not do. So not more than 30 minutes later I sent in a request for a refund. 10 days go by and I get no response. So I sent in another refund request and 10 days later still no response. I went to Paypal's website and got PIA's email to contact them directly without having to use their form. It is now 10 days later and I still have heard nothing from them and nothing has been refunded. I am now going to have to go through the hassle of going through Paypal to get my money back. I'll get my money back and I know LTT has nothing to do with this. But to say this won't influence my decision making in the future if I'm ever in the market for anything else LTT sponsors, I'm going to think twice and research elsewhere before committing. Just wanted to share my story.

I recently signed up for Private Internet Access VPN and it has been great, but i tried using it on my phone and I ran into an issue. A video series I have been watching just fine on my computer using PIA I have not been able to get working on my phone. I have the app set to the same country as my pc, but youtube still says it's not available in my country when i use my phone. Is there some step that I'm missing to make it work with android apps?

17 PIA users who were using VPN to download torrents got sued in the US. PIA confirms to have a no log policy, but aparently the users registered accounts on the websites using their real email addresses. Don't forget that anonymous traffic is not the same as anonymity . Don't be dumb, and don't register stuff using your actual email. VPNs by themselves won't make you untraceable Sources https://torrentfreak.com/movie-company-sues-pirates-who-used-an-anonymous-vpn-201026/

I'm looking to move from my current VPN (ExpressVPN) to another.. which one I still don't really know. So PIA/Private Internet Access came to my mind from all LMG videos. Does anyone who tried it know if it is 100% compatible with US Netflix (which blocks many vpn services) AND if it can be easily used from ios/android devices? ExpressVPN has a super handy app for that, what about PIA? ExpressVPN is really good on everything but it's way more expensive so.. I need an alternative

So to begin lets assume I'm a networking dummy, so any follow-on advice please break it down "Barney Style". I built a mini-itx pc inside a Velka 3. Installed Pfsense. Used some beginner Youtube videos and online guides. I also used PIA's pfsense guide to get a VPN up an running. However one problem: When the server drops out I'm left without internet and this really sucks during online game play. So what I'm getting at is I need help setting up my pfsense so that it has failover to other PIA servers. fyi: I tried using a rough guide that used vpn interfaces and gateway groups. I think I probably over complicated the firewall rules and NAT. Please help!

Via: https://www.techradar.com/news/cyberghost-owner-buys-pia-for-dollar955m-to-create-vpn-giant Seems like its not only an acquisition of a major VPN provider, but also the brand name it offer for further expansion into the VPN market So its a fairly sizable ammount of money being exchanged. Kape is on the road to become a fairly large VPN player if this trend continues. Hopefully this was communicated well the the companies PIA sponsored, or else we might see a end of PIA being a sponsor at LTT. the same way the infamous Tunnelbear got aquired by McAfee ended relations between them and Linus Mediagroup. with the building of very major VPN providers i certainly hope they stay true to the privacy statements and dont start doing datacollection to fund their endeavours Credit to @Arika S for the extra details regarding past aquisitions and conflict of interests

Whats poppin everyone. So basically I was wondering if, on Windows (in my case Windows 10) you can select certain applications to connect to the internet through a VPN, while others not. For example, I could be running a P2P client through Private Internet Access, but my Steam library is connected straight to my local connection. I ask because I've been running a workflow where I've needed to switch PIA on and off while gaming/torrenting. Despite PIA's actually fairly responsive service, it still sometimes messes with my in game ping to the point of certain games being unplayable. Is there any way to configure my VPN such that I can run certain applications in "VPN mode" and others not, simultaneously? My current solution is just to torrent and game on and off, and that's fine, but I'm interested to see if the forum has any solutions. Thanks for time! Love ya lots

The question is simple, should I use Tunnel Bear or PIA? Tunnel Bear offer free service, PIA is only paid. I don't do anything sketchy, just sometimes to open blocked websites. I don't use VPN a lot. I have been using Tunnel Bear for a long time now and I am good tweeting and getting a gig per month.

I personally don't use any VPN within the jurisdiction of the "Fourteen Eyes" **adjusts tin-foil hat** ...but I did find this article about Private Internet Access very cool and might even make me consider using them later down the line. https://torrentfreak.com/private-internet-access-no-logging-claims-proven-true-again-in-court-180606/

As of a few days ago, Mark Karpeles became the CTO of Private Internet Access, who was largely responsible for the downfall of Mt. Gox and is under investigation for various crimes such as theft and fraud. This is quite the interesting scenario because PIA, a service that is supposed to improve the security and reassure their users that their data is secure, hired a person who either lost $473 million in user's money due to poor security, or stole $473 million in users money. Does the LinusTechTips community approve that this service is being partially influenced by someone who has had such a poor history? While we should be wary and critical, we shouldn't sink the boat yet, so please be moderate in your discussion before we learn more. Engadget source Fortune source PIA source

Would you recommend PIA, or some other service over it? Thanks! Edit: I used to use Hotspot Shield, but it was pretty buggy and I wouldn't use it again.

So I received this email and was wondering if a VPN would help. Dear Valued Customer (Primary Account Holder), We are sending you this alert as part of our participation in the Copyright Alert Program — an industry-wide initiative intended to help users understand their rights and responsibilities in the distribution of copyrighted content online. Digital content owners routinely monitor file-sharing networks to determine if copyrighted movies and music are being distributed illegally over the Internet. Through the Copyright Alert System, we've recently received a notice from a movie studio, record company, television studio or other company that owns copyrighted material that your AT&T Internet account was used in connection with possible infringement of their copyright protected materials. Your account was identified by its IP address. However, in keeping with the AT&T Privacy Policy, we have not released your name or personal information, and we will not do so except as required by a lawful request for records. But at the request of the content owner, we are sending this alert — which applies to all users of your account — so that the issue may be resolved without further action. A copy of the original notice can be found at att.com/copyright-infringement, but summary information is available at the end of this email. What is Copyright Infringement? Copyright protection gives creators of original intellectual property (such as music, movies, videos, books, artwork, and images) the exclusive right to that work — including control over reproduction, distribution, adaptation, performance, or financial benefit. If you or any other user(s) of your account copy, reproduce, adapt, or distribute copyrighted material without authorization, you are infringing those rights. Using your Internet service to infringe copyrights is illegal and a violation of the AT&T Internet Terms of Service (TOS) and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), which apply to all users of your account, and could result in mitigation measures including limitation of Internet access or even suspension or termination.* How Does this Affect Me? Through the Copyright Alert Program, users are given an opportunity to understand and change behavior that may be resulting in Copyright Alerts. However, if they receive multiple Copyright Alerts, they may encounter corrective action — or mitigation measures — which may limit or inhibit Internet access. No action will be taken at this point and we'll let you know when mitigation measures are pending, should any be necessary. At that point, if you wish, you may request an Independent Review which provides an opportunity to challenge this or any other Copyright Alert before any mitigation measure is implemented. (Be sure to preserve any records or information that could be used to show that the activity was non-infringing.) Other Helpful Information It is possible that the infringement notice is the result of activity through a peer-to-peer (P2P) program that may be on your computer. These programs can pose issues, so it is important for you to understand what they are and the risks of using them. You can find information on P2P programs and how to remove them, through the Center for Copyright Information at www.copyrightinformation.org There are many ways to legally enjoy protected television programs, movies, and music. You can find information on these methods at www.copyrightinformation.org/a-better-way-to-find-movies-tv-music/ What Do I Need to Do? • Please visit att.com/copyright-infringement to learn more about copyrights, our policies, and the Copyright Alert System. • Visit the Center for Copyright Information website at copyrightinformation.org for additional information on the industry-wide Copyright Alert Program, as well as information on Peer-to-Peer programs, and more. • Check to make sure that the activity of all users of your account is in compliance with copyright laws, the AT&T Internet Terms of Service, and Acceptable Use Policy. Taking the above action should help you to resolve the issue. Sincerely, Your AT&T Internet Service Customer Care Team *Pursuant to Section 512 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, AT&T's policy is to terminate services to repeat infringers under appropriate circumstances.
