Pretty straight forward question, will my GPU be bottlenecked in a significant manner by my CPU? I’m going to be running a GTX 1060 6GB SC as my GPU, and a FX-8370 @4GHz as my CPU. If it’s important I’ll also be running 20 GB of 1600MHz DDR3. Thanks guys

I just ordered an FX-8370 and Hyper 212 Black Edition for my first PC build, but I’ve heard a lot about the FX-8370 running very hot, and I just wanted to make sure my Hyper 212 will be enough to cool it? If not I can resort to ordering a Rosewill PB240. Keep in mind this is my first ever PC build so I’m not completely acquainted with this hardware yet. (FYI: I have 3 120mm case fans as well)

So, my 6350 seems to not even break a sweat under a stress test on AIDA64, reaching only 46°C, which is literally nothing. It idles at 25°C, the temperature of the room it is in. It is clocked at 4 GHz, which is admittedly a low overclock of 100 MHz for an FX processor, but I lost the silicon lottery, woe is me. But it doesn't seem to get hot at all under load; I touch the heatsink and it feels cold to the touch. Strangely, it throttles down to 1.5 GHz when playing Forza Motorsport 6 Apex, but it is keeping a solid 4 GHz on AIDA64. Again, temps are insanely low. What's the big idea? I cannot screenshot the computer because obviously it is under full load.

Hi I saw, that Linus again tried to play with 2X 4C Yorkfield platform and that got me thinking. I know, that you can get AMD Opteron 6276 (16C Bulldozer 2.3GHz) for around 15-20 US bucks, Opteron 6376 (16C Piledriver 2.3GHz) for 20-25 bucks, or from the Intel side, X7550 (8C Nehalem EX 2GHz) for laughable 4 bucks and E7-2850 (10C Westmere EX 2GHz) for around 15-20 buck, if you got good deal. I played with these platforms long ago, but I dont have any by me now. Does somebody still use them? Even today I use my trusty old dual X5670 for my server and they are good enough. What about this big hi-end grade grandpa's in today's workload in perspective to power/watt and cost of the whole system. I would love to hear any echo on that! Thank you for reading

As the article says, why go to 7nm when you can go back with 28nm? For some reason AMD has decided to release one last chip for the long dead FM2+ platform. Retiring my 8350, and buying a 6700k (and dont worry im already aware i will need DDR4 ram and will be purchasing some with the board) Any outstanding warnings or tips i need to know before i go to grab my 6700k? Like bios settings that may be different/important that just dont exist on AMD, or things to not do to avoid botching my windows install with the new motherboard, etc? Just want to make sure im not walking into any large pains. More Info Will be removing my MSI 990fxa Gaming and 8350 cpu, and swapping them for an MSI Z170A Gaming M5, and 6700k. Im hoping its going to be as simple as plugging the sata cables into the same places on the new board (sata 1 to sata 1 etc), and calling Microsoft again to reactivate my key, like i had to when i got my 990fxa board, but you never know, there could be something im overlooking or just not thinking about. Let me know anyways. I haven't been on an intel system since the Core 2 Quad, so its been a while, and id like this to be as simple as possible (manual labor of dismantling my computer aside of course)

So my brother wants me to help him building a PC. No problem for me, if it would have been an Intel rig. (BTW: no flame wars here). As I do not know practically anything about AMD, I will need your help. He intends to play games like Train Simulator, Cities:Skylines, CS:Go and and GTA V. The aim is to get Cities:Skylines and GTA V on a solid playable level in Full HD via HDMI and with High settings. I will give him my old TV as a monitor, OS-wise we will use a student program I do have access to. No further peripherals are required. As for a CPU cooler he will get an Thermaltake Contac 39 with one/two fan(s), which is lying around. The budget is 575 EUR. And I had some trouble to figure out how many PCIe pins the GPU needs (6+2?), the power usage due to the R9 380 concerned me, which lead me to different PSU wattage calculators and let me to upgrade from a Corsair CX430M to a CX500. So we tried to create an AMD build with a similar perfomance. And again we stumbled upon high power usages of an only AMD build. FX-8350(?) 125W vs the i5-6500 <70W. Another question was and still is, if we should go for the R9 380 or the GTX 960 4GB, both by Asus Does anyone have suggestions for an AMD build with a perfomance next to an i5-6500? Therefore we would need another Mainboard and a different CPU of course, but by AMD. Furthermore we would re-evaluate the case as we will need a nice airflow in the case for the AMD heater system. The FX-6300 seemes quite good until I got my eyes on the 95W TDP and the i3-ish perfomance.... Thanks in regard.

Hey there guys! I am starting University this September and I was considering to make a fresh new build (Haswell based). But my Uni has really good equipment for me to use 24/7. they have PCs with GTX 680s so I dont really need a most expensive power computer. So I decided to just refresh my existing build. Before listing what I've got let me highlight my main use. I will be playing games on it I am 110% positive about that! but Also I will be doing some minor 3d modelling on it. Rendering power I dont need because most rendering I can do at Uni computers. So here what I got: CPU:FX 4300 MOBO: MSI GPU: MSI's HD 7770 RAM: 2 x 4gb Dragon Geil 1333mhz SSD: 128 vertex 4 HDD: 500gb WD 7200 rpm 64mb cache PSU: 500w Corsair CASE: Bitfenix USB3 gaming edition with window HEATSINK: Noctua nh-d14 (I love this bad boy) FANS: 6 fans with no controller. 2 intake front, one intake side, 2 top exhaust and 1 top back exhaust. They not great fans, very loud. Blue Shark I believe they called running at 1000rpm or lower. So what you guys think? I was thinking to just upgrade what I got and not bother with new pc. perhaps new GPU and upgrade my cpu to 8350 and add another vertex 4 for raid 0? oh and budget I probably say £500, I could go higher a little though. Well guys I've been doing my own research & analysis of the performance of AMD & Intel CPUs for sometime, I did not do tests personally however I tried to salvage as much knowledge as possible to try and answer a question that has been on my mind, which is how far ahead Intel really is? and that question led me to some very interesting realizations. The discussion will be highly technical and might seem boring to some, I'll start off with the basics & end with the answer to the original question plus several others. Ok let's begin, first off our discussion will be surrounding AMD's modular Bulldozer/Piledriver architecture & Intel's core series from Westmere to Sandy/Ivy & Haswell. The Architectures : AMD Bulldozer/Piledriver The building block of AMD's modular architecture is not an x86 core, it's an x86 module, this module contains everything that a core contains but with a number of components doubled, these components include the integer scheduler, its datapath, 16KB of L1 DCache & it's own load/store unit. The doubling of these components is what gives the AMD module essentially two cores/threads. The integer cores share the early pipeline stages (e.g. L1i, fetch, decode), the floating point unit, and the L2 cache with the rest of the module. How this affects performance Depending on the workload the quad module eight core AMD processors can either perform as eight processing units or as four and this depends entirely on the affinity of the workload to integer or floating point calculations. If integer calculations are needed there are eight integer pipelines that can be used, however if floating point calculations are needed there are only four.

Hey guys! My first post here, so here goes.. I'm currently building a new system as this All in One is a piece of trash for games (i3, GT630M) and I've got the CPU (Which must be AMD) and the GPU (NV or AMD) left to buy. I get paid by Youtube and the next payment comes at the start of August which will be enough to fund an 8350 which is at least $200 here in Australia. I was considering getting the 8320 for about $30 less, but I'm truly not sure if I could get the same overclock speeds with it, that I would be able to with an 8350. (I've got a 212 Evo {I know I'm a sheep BAAAH}), so I'm really only look to push to around 4.4GHz-ish. I'm under assumption Steamroller won't be out for a while. Then here comes GPU. I plan on getting a 7950 which is $299 cheapest here, but honestly by the time I have the money for that, it will be around mid to late August and by then the 9XXX series might have been announced. A VR-Zone forum user has got his hands on a retail sample AMD FX-9590 (which is based off the same 32nm HKG process used on Piledriver and Bulldozer, so this is the same stuff as the FX processors, yet clocked faster and eating away a lot of power. It has 8 cores and 8 threads, 8MB cache and it's clocked at 4.7GHz (5.0GHz Turbo core 3.0). Expected price is around $800 which is not very far from the Core i7-3960X. At idle, the chip runs at 1.4GHz (0.875V) but when it turbo's up to 5.0 GHz it requires 1.513V! That might not even be stable enough with some motherboards and it will require some high end cooling. The processor is very similar to the older FX8350 with the only difference being the higher clocks thanks to them being very highly binned. It has been tested on an ASRock 990FX Extreme9.
