Hey guys, I'm kind of in a first world issue. My only hobby is my PC. I don't find enjoyment in anything else really. I currently have a core i5 6500 with a GTX 1070 and 16 GB of RAM. Hyper 212 Evo and a nice case. 2.75 TB or storage, and 3 monitors. 1 144hz and 2 60hz monitors. I have money burning a hole in my pocket and I can't think of anything else to add. I have LED's and a nice keyboard/mouse. I don't need an SSD cuz it boots in 7 seconds. I'm at a loss. It sounds preppy I'm just curious on thoughts

As in the title. I plan to get a 4K HDR TV (maybe a couple of months from now depends on whether cheap OLEDs come out). Wondering how much system RAM and VRAM needed to play games like - Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight, Dirt Rally, and maybe XCOM 2. Also, I'm not in the market yet for a GPU (hopefully Vega kicks badonkadonks), I could get an RX 480 but IMO it won't cut it for 4K gaming.

Hi, I used MSI Afterburner as my overclocking and monitoring tool. 3Dmark Firestrike and Heaven Benchmark 4.0 as my stress test tools. I OC my 780ti to 1215Mhz on clock and 7800Mhz on memory. I tested my GPU for at least 2h for stability. My GPU was around 80-83 C, which is apparently normal ( not overclocked was hitting 80 at times). I was happy with the results (free performance!), but after an hour of playing BF4 my game just crashed. I downclocked it to 1206/7700 and made my fan curve a bit more aggressive. Tested again, no crashes and temps never even hit 80 C. But two days later in BF4 after like 1.5h of gaming my game crashed again. Since then I'm on stock. I didn't have enough time to play BF4 again for that long to check if it will crash and to be honest it's pretty frustrating to play and just wait for it to crash. Any ideas how I can test it with a synthetic benchmark? I would really prefer to leave my PC running and testing by it self. Thanks!

Hello all! I'm looking for a wireless gaming mouse for my mid-range gaming laptop. I need it to be wireless as I can't afford any desk space to be taken up by a cord (desks at schools are waaay too small :/) I'm specifically looking for low latency, a price of $25 or less, largish size, and good ergonomics. I was originally going for the EagleTec MG001 that Linus recommended in his cheap gaming mice video, but that's no longer available on Amazon and I'm finding resellers selling it at ridiculous prices. Thank you all in advance

Ok so i want want a gaming PC and i'm on a very tight budget (I using AUD to buy this and I live in Australia, just in case anyone wants to recommend parts please have this in mind!). My max budget is at the moment about $475 AUD but i might be able to make it $500 AUD. I want my PC to be able to play esport titles and also modern triple A titles basicly most modern games. However i want it to have future reliability for games and also be able to play older games too. I will also be using this pc for occasional light picture and video editing along with occasional sound mixing/editing and coding. This PC will obviously be get some upgrade soon-ish (whenever i can afford it!) these upgrades will consist of a 1TB HDD, a GPU, a better PSU, a CPU cooler, a better CPU and some fast/better ram (not in this order, the HDD will probably first!). The other thing i should mention is that one of my cousins may be able to give a GTX 950, GTX 1060 (i think a 6GB model) and a wifi card. I would like to hear what you think of it and ill try to reply to most of the comments (im busy today so it might not be til later tonight or tomorrow). Thanks for reading! $750 Gaming P.C Build recommendations. :)
Slightly_Waffled posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi there! I’ve recently decided to spend the money to get myself a decent gaming computer, Now I’m a bit new to this, so I will be referring to this post (Post’s link) for what I should list. Again, please note that I’m new to this so If I do make a few mistakes please forgive me! “Budget & Location” Personally, I would like my budget to be as close to $750 as possible, But I can do a maximum of $800 to cover taxes, shipping, etc.… and my location is the United States. “Aim” My true aim is to run Adobe Photoshop nothing intensive just some light photo editing, but I would like the build to mainly be centered around that. Plus, it can’t be a “Gaming” computer if you don’t plan to run games on it, I would say the less intensive titles like Minecraft and others that do not require heavy resources would be my cup of tea. Again, when suggesting builds, please just simply consider these games as they aren’t as important as Adobe Photoshop! “Monitors” I currently would do fine with just one monitor, But I would like the ability to upgrade to two monitors just in case. (Please don’t bash on me for this) But I think any monitor will do fine regarding resolution, I mean you can’t really get much more than 1080p when including a monitor in a $750 build. “Peripherals" I have all the peripherals needed, So no true need to detail this part much! Plus, I will be using an already owned copy of Windows 10 pro so no need to consider that either. “Why are you upgrading?” I am upgrading for one reason specifically, Photoshop! It’s gotten slower than I would like on my previous system, so I think investing the money into a new system would really save me a lot of time. Plus like any sane person, I want to join the PC MASTER RACE! Even though I’m not running any intensive titles.... Thank you to everyone who contributed to my search for a new computer, All responses welcome! -
Short story: I am getting back into building PC rigs and PC gaming after 13 years. I'm looking for people to give me some tips and advice, because it seems like a lot has changed. Full Story: To start with, I have been in the Navy for over 13 years. I used to enjoy playing games on various platforms, including PC years ago. Since I've been in, the easiest way to game was to use consoles. They're on every base, most ships can check them out to us with games, like a rental, but free. The thing is, there's no practical way to enjoy a PC gaming rig, while in the service. A lot has changed, since I've built a PC and played PC games. Clearly, not much has changed in the assembly of a PC, but a lot of improvements have been made. I just want some tips/advice. One question I have is that a PS4 Pro has some sweet looking UHD games pushing 60 FPS, but I've seen benchmarks, recently, that show twice that, more or less, on PC gaming rigs. How much perceivable, as in real-life, detail and performance is there? You can only see so much in a YouTube video, so some insight on that would be appreciated. Any other things you may want to offer, too help bring me back into the PC Gamer Master Race, would be greatly appreciated!

HI there, I'm new to the gaming world and recently bought a gaming laptop for games (obviously) and productivity purposes. The machine was the 8th Gen i7 8750H paired with GTX 1060 Max Q. I do 1080p gaming so its good for that. The thing I don't understand starts here: After 15 - 20 min of gameplay I lose frames but return to above 60 fps after a few seconds of fan noise and general annoyance. I Undervolted the CPU so it'll run cooler and it does but frames were still dropping on every game. I looked through my power plan and it was the [reset from the manufacturer, I changed that to Power with the Minimum Power settings to 99% and the Cooling to Active. The drops in frames have almost stopped except in an open world with very big maps. Is this normal for a gaming laptop and if so wth....

I commented on the video about how every gaming platform has advantages and disadvantages. He then replies "the pc simply has no disadvantages." He then proceeds to rant about how pc blablabla (you know where it leads). And then when I sent him a link to a certain topic in this forum, he replied "Just tell me about the disadvantages already, I can't wait to have a good laugh." Is he a 10-year old spoiled rich kid? What do you think? BTW I know how the PC is superior to the consoles in terms of everything but it simply does not mean it has no disadvantages. I'm also kinda tired of the whole PC vs Console arguement...

So I lied their would be words, to start off this computer is god tier 2GB of memory at a blistering fast 100 MHz with an amazingly thermal throttled core 2 quad with the hard drive bay doubling as fine ass heatsink, some may say "hey adam but how well does it work" and ill tell you it works so well that the hard drive bay doesn't even heat up!. In this fine a$$ hard drive bay were sporting an old 60GB hard drive that's plugged into a sata to usb adapter plugged directly into the next gen usb 2.0 IO.On top of the hard drive bay heatsink combo we put cds for nostalgia (and to keep the hard drive bay from falling off). Next we have the gpu with a whopping unknown card cause we pulled it out of a bin filled with terrible gpus then we gave it a heat sink upgrade and put it on its way. we connected it to a monitor using a dual dvi to dvi then a dvi to VGA then a VGA cable then a VGA to HDMI then HDMI to DVI. We did this to get the advantages of all the standards. But even with the best of systems problems arise. Starting with the monitor only displays in purple, we need a desk fan to cool down the beastly components. one of the ICs on the motherboard randomly throws out sparks and we cant make it past the boot screen because it only thermal throttle, but it will beat any ones timespy or cinebench records. all seriousness this was fun I dare anyone to make a woking shittier computer and maybe we can get a sh!t PC fan series going!

Hello my friends. I have a buddy that is trying to break into PC gaming and is looking for a good headset. I'm looking for recommendations. They have to have a removable or hideable mic, be good with/for phones and PS4s, and have to be under $100. They like extra bass if that helps any. Good luck, and have fun PS they will be mostly playing on a laptop with a combo audio jack.

Here’s my dilemma, I have a fx-8350 paired with a r9 390, I still have a pretty decent computer so i’m not in a hurry to upgrade but as a former member of the pc master race I want to get a better pc. I would like to get the best hardware for gaming as possible, something like a i7 8700k paired with a gtx 1080 ti. I know Volta gpu’s are rumored to come out quite soon. I’m also not able to get both components at the same time due to budget limitations, so here’s my question: Should I upgrade my cpu now? is there a better option for making sure my build is “future proof”? Is the 1080 ti overkill/ overprice even close to the 700 usd msrp?

I'm slowly collecting money from mining zCash on my 1060 6gb and am thinking about upgrading my current pc in some way. I'm thinking about getting a better psu since it's listed as Tier 6 on this psu ranking list so almost another option would be an upgrade.

please read whole thing before commenting. Thank you This is going to be a fairly long winded post but i need a little help and advice. I am going to include a little background information and context to help me get my point across with maximum clarity. To begin I will list my current build to give people an idea of what I'm working with and also what I paid for the items at the time. Any Items in BLUE are what I am currently using, Any in YELLOW are what I still use from my original PC, Any Items in GREEN are what I have used and paid for but aren't currently using but I need to include to back up my point: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DVD Reader: Super Write Master HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda RAM: Corsair 8 GB Vengeance LPX DDR4k £60.98 Motherboard: Gigabyte Intel B250M-D2V Socket 1151 mATX £55.00 GPU: Sapphire PCI Express R7 260X 2GB Graphics Card £89.99 GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce 8GB OC GDDR5X £439.98 CPU: Intel Core i7-7700k 4.2Ghz £289.99 Case Fans: 3 X Cooler Master Jetflo 120 (120mm) £8.89 (Each) CPU Cooler: BE QUIET! BK008 Pure Rock Slim Heatsink & Fan £24.91 CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Alpine 11 GT Rev.2 £8.86 Case: AvP Hyperion EV33B Black Cube case £21.00 General Cables and adapters: Approx £10 PSU: ACE 850 W 12 cm Power Supply Unit £28.99 TOTAL: Approx £1,000.00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The reason I included so many items is because these are things that don't need to be purchased when buying an Xbox One for example. A games console comes fully assembled and is as plug and play as possible. I understand that part of the excitement when it comes to PC's is of course the building of the system which i do personally enjoy myself (most of the time). I will however be counting this as a con as I will be writing this from the point of view of a general user who wants to play games and media with as much ease as possible. Another point I feel needs to be made is of course the price. As shown above I have listed the the parts that I have purchased since receiving my first PC a few years back. Some items I have replaced (again something which doesn't need to be done with a console). As you can see the price is fairly extensive and I myself do not have a great deal of money and a fairly big quantity of what I have goes towards my PC as I do enjoy gaming and do want to have a good system. However an Xbox One X at the time of me writing this is roughly £429.99 which is substantially cheaper than my build and it too can game in 4k. I appreciate that I may not be able to achieve the level of frames on the console and the games may not be as highly detailed but i'm not convinced that it is worth the extra £600. One pro of PC gaming however is the list of titles and the price of the games. I love the fact that almost every game imaginable is available on PC and I enjoy the fact I can use steam for the majority of these games in order to keep them organised. Part of the reason I wanted a gaming PC in the first place is the ability to get cheaper games instantly through game key websites at a discount. I still don't feel that the amount of discount on the games brings me even with the price of an Xbox Yet. There also is a vast amount of vagueness when it comes to PC building as there are so many different parts and manufacturers and compatible parts and incompatible parts that it can become massively confusing to someone who doesn't have a large knowledge of PC building. I consider myself to have a reasonably good knowledge when it comes to building systems but only hours before writing this I was playing Need for Speed Payback on my PC and noticed that the game was lagging drastically. Unsure of what was wrong i tried playing at low settings and with the game lagging still i noticed my CPU was running at 100ºC. I then found out that the CPU cooler I had been using for months was not sufficient enough for my build which in my parts list above is why i have purchased 2 CPU coolers.I am still unsure if this is why the game was running so poorly or if this was down to something such as poor game optimisation I understand that this may seem like this was my fault (which of course it is) It still adds to my point of incompatibility an vagueness when it comes to choosing parts. I have also never once had an issue with my Xbox One since the day I got it around 4 years ago. I have used it almost everyday and never had to replace anything. Current and even last gen consoles also have access to internet browsing, video and audio streaming content and even in some cases apps such as Netflix, Spotify, Twitch and so on so even these can be used for processes other than gaming now. Another point to add would be that I will never need to upgrade anything in my Xbox console as no matter what versions of the Xbox One are released as long as the title is an Xbox One title it will play on my console. It is true that my Xbox Unlike the newer versions cannot play games in 4k but buying a new Xbox every 3 years is still cheaper than upgrading a graphics card every 3 years as well as other parts which may need to be replaced in my PC for whatever reason. Every title is fully optimised for a console as that is the only device the game is designed to be played on. Obviously PC's are built with huge variety's of parts so optimisation can be difficult for game developers and this can lead to games playing poorly on my system. I should also include software and driver updates on to this list also as although consoles and console games do need to be updated they are done almost automatically and only require a single download at one time unlike individual PC parts such as graphics cards which may have to be updated manually when the user is unaware that there is an update even available. There also isn't any third party software when it comes to consoles. Size, shape and design can also be an issue. I recently purchased 3 fans for my PC and the volume they run at is incredible they sound like I am sat directly across from a Jet engine. My Xbox however is silent and operates constantly at a low noise level. The size of a console is also an advantage as it is tiny. My PC isn't considered a big PC but an Xbox One is still minuscule in comparison. I also wanted to add that not once has my Xbox ever crashed, Needed restarting, Lagged, Not booted correctly, Blue screened or indeed overheated. To round this off i do want to say that my intention was never to insult PC gamers as I am technically one myself. And my point when I got my first PC as a Christmas gift a few years back was to prove that high quality gaming and general computing can be done on a budget but unfortunately as the months go on and I spend more my point has dissolved into what is essentially a flat out lie. As i said in the beginning I am hoping for advice. All i want is for someone to convince me that what i am doing is still worth it and I should continue with PC gaming and get rid of my console which is of course what I wanted when i originally got my first PC. Thank you if you made it this far and i didn't completely bore you to death (please don't be afraid to correct me if i am wrong about something or if you don't agree this is the reason i wrote this)

Yo, whats going on guys? So... i am building a Gaming and possibly minor editing PC to run a youtube channel from with some buddies of mine. Now i say minor editing as i myself will not be in charge of the editing process but as you may know the youtube life can be hard and so i may need to edit some things every now and then myself. The issue i have run into is money... as we all know a good PC costs money! My original intention for my PC was to have a sick looking custom water cooling system and a highend graphics card and processor but reality soon kicked in and i had to remove the water cooling idea and the 'extreme' processor and graphics card. i have tried to keep the build as good as possible whilst trying to lower the price but i am also trying to buy a mouse, keyboard, headset and monitor with this build along with a nice chair. now all of this piles up and soon i find myself back in the same position with very little money to spend on the actual PC itself. Here is my current PC build with a monitor, headset, keyboard and mouse. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Zt8LPs Unfortunately... as much as i love the look and sound of this build it is still a little over my budget. my budget is around £1100-1200 maybe pushing 1300. i need to drasticallly reduce the cost of this build but without damaging the asthetics of the build or the quality. my colour scheme is black and red so i need to try and keep to that but i am posting today to ask anyone to help me lower the price of this build! any suggestions are appreciated! thank you!!!
