  1. I was browsing for a monitor to use with a future build and I happened to come across the PB277Q. I've never had an experience with it which forced me to return to this lovely community in search of someone who has. I'm well acquainted with the issues involved in production of the PB278Q. That's left me slightly on edge with thoughts that I'll end up returning this monitor after a few weeks. So, I would like to know what your experience with it was like. https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PB277Q-WQHD-2560x1440-Monitor/dp/B01EN3Z7QQ/
  2. In two words - Hell yeah. In more than two words, yes, this monitor, which was manufactured in September of 2012, still works flawlessly. The PLS panel is as good as my brand new Acer G246HYL, the stand still does all of its movements well, and there are zero visible dead pixels. Just thought I would share with you all, in case you're looking for a 1440p monitor!
  3. Whats up, I recently found out that monitor overclocking is surprisingly easy and i tried it on my Asus PB278Q and got up to 85 Hz stable! But i have the following problem: I am using two monitors, my Asus and a crappy old 19" 4:3 (1280x768) monitor as auxiliary display. Since the small monitor has a low resolution i used Nvidia DSR to upscale it (2.25xDSR) and get some more realestate. However, when i create a custom resolution for my main monitor (= stock res. - with the higher refresh rate) the nvidia system management requires me to turn off all DSR resolutions! I tried to work around this by creating another custom (non-DSR) resolution for my small monitor with the same total resolution as with DSR of 1920x1536, however, it would give me an error message saying that my system is not capable of running at these specifications! Another problem that i have is that i want to switch between custom 80 Hz res. and stock 60 Hz res. automatically whenever i am gaming/not gaming in order to give my monitor a rest. This could also be a ghetto solution for my first problem, though i am loosing some screen realestate whenever i'm gaming - which i am OK with... Problem is: I don't know how i could do any of this! So pls help me! Edit: Asus runs off Displayport, crappy monitor off DVI.
  4. I'm looking to get a new monitor and I am having trouble deciding. The two monitors I'm thinking of is the Asus PB278Q or the LG 27MU67. I will be using the monitor for photo editing and gaming, along with school work. I have tried the Asus and I really like it, but since I plan to keep this monitor for a long time I am thinking that the 2K may not be the best choice, but I like not having to use scaling. Has anyone here used the LG and can add their two cents on the colour accuracy of it? Or is there any other high res monitors around the same $600 CAD price range that would be better? Specs LG 27MU67 http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27MU67-B-4k-uhd-led-monitor Asus PB278Q https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Commercial_Monitors_Projectors/PB278Q/overview/
  5. So here's the deal. over the last year I have been planning, building, and upgrading a rig so that I can run 1440p/4k. The time has come to buy the monitor (right now I'm on 3 1080p) My original pick was the PB278Q as it was well priced, fit the criteria and the reviews were really good at the time. Since about May 2015 they seem to have changed somthing and negitive reviews are rampent, backlight bleed, failer you name it. Though the RMA process seems good in the USA I'm in New Zealand and won't be able to take full advantage of this and I can't really risk playing the lortter when hundreds of dollars worth of shipping is at stake. So I looked for other options and have found the GW2765HT and the U2715H The Gw2765HT seems good, pretty much as good as the Asus, though it does still have some negative reviews its not THAT bad... the problem is there are no main stream reviews of this product (LTT included ) Then there is the dell, $100 dollars more expensive than the GW its pretty nice, good reviews good dell quality... But I would have said the same about Asus a few days ago... So what do I do, do I go with the BenQ (which seems like the best bet ATM) or do I pay a little more for the Dell, or do I take the risk on the Asus! Thanks for your time. Jayden
  6. Hi everyone, First I want to thank everyone here on the Linus Tech Tips forums who helped me make my decision on a new monitor and first IPS display. I was torn between the ASUS PB258Q and the PB278Q. I ended up going with the slightly larger PB278Q just because it has a little more screen real estate which is perfect for me and my design work. I received the new model of this monitor, which is the US release of the PB278QR. While I'm primarily using the monitor for design work on a Mac, I decided to do my initial setup on my PC just to mess around with settings and do some light gaming. I first left the settings at default and jumped right into SOMA since that's what I'm playing through at the moment. I was super bummed to notice the unevenness of color and bleed right away. The backlight bleeding spans most of the lower right hand quarter of the panel and it was almost impossible to see in the darker areas of the game. I took some photos at default 100% brightness and then the overclock.net official PB278Q thread's recommended 30% brightness settings (http://www.overclock.net/t/1311936/official-asus-pb278q-pb278qr-thread-read-the-1st-post) which I've attached below. I know there are a million "Should I keep it, is it tolerable?" posts, but is this really worth returning and playing the panel lottery again, or should I just return and look elsewhere for a monitor? I don't have much experience with IPS so I don't know what's normal and what isn't, so I don't know what to do now. Monitors seem extremely difficult to be happy with. Does anyone have any experiece with this monitor or bleeding in general? I would love to hear your advice and experiences. Thanks again! UPDATE: I just wanted to say thanks everyone for the suggestions and I received my replacement monitor through Amazon within two days! It looks amazing! I've attached some photos below:
  7. Hi guys, New poster. Long time lurker... I'm stuck between two monitors currently, at the ~$400 price point. They will primarily be used for design and editing work (video, web, print) and light gaming (looking to get a better gaming monitor later after the gaming monitor storm blows over). I am a long time fan of ASUS in gaming monitors and have a VG248QE and VX238H so I typically stick to their products. I am currently between these two monitors and would ideally have a 1440p IPS panel this time around: ASUS PB278Q http://www.amazon.com/PB278Q-2560x1440-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B009C3M7H0/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1443540723&sr=1-1&keywords=pb278Q ASUS PB258Q http://www.amazon.com/PB258Q-2560x1440-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B00VRKVGJG They both seem great, but seeing as the PB278Q is older there is a lot more coverage and reviews out there for it. It also seems that ASUS has released the PB278QR (UK) updated panel under the PB278Q name in the US and it is a much better product now than it was 2-3 years ago. Can anyone offer any advice or personal experience with either of these products? Thank you so much! -Sneaks
  8. Hi guys i'm planning on building a PC for web surfingm, movies and gaming and some (word , excel and similar programs). and I have few questions about the monitor. -my first question is which display size is better 25" or 27" on 1440p (for gaming, movies, word ....)? does the 25" have better pixels dense? and what difference will the pixels dense have on the monitor? also, after searching on amazon for a while I found 2 monitors 27" Asus PB278Q and 25" Dell U2515H almost the same price and some specifications are the same. but I read few customer reviews who are complaining about the PB278Q and the newer model has even worse light bleeding than the older model. -should I take the risk by getting the asus or take the dell ? Please share with me your experiences opinions and thoughts. Thanks
  9. Hi all, So I currently have an Asus PB278Q, 2560x1440 monitor. It's great, I love the real estate and I can still get decent graphics settings on it combined with my R9 270. Note that I've said decent, though. I'm in the market to upgrade to a 980 Ti, likely the EVGA Hybrid version, and was wondering if this would actually make my gaming experience worse in terms of screen tearing? I've not checked, but I'm assuming that all of my games are running a fair amount below 60fps, but would getting a card that can easily handle 60fps on most titles, combined with a monitor that can ONLY handle 60Hz cause problems when it dips below 60, temporarily? I wonder if for this reason I should also save up for the G Sync alternative to my monitor (the PB278Q ROG Swift) and then fps and tearing can also be handled that way? If I do go for the monitor, should I sell and upgrade, or is it not worth getting rid of and instead get the ROG in addition to what I already have? I'm thinking I could game on the ROG and have the standard monitor just on Windows or other productivity. This dual monitor setup would also come in handy for "pro apps" such as Pro Tools or Premiere, but it's not essential - I certainly don't miss it at the moment. Any thoughts please?

    Monitor Help

So I will upgrade to a 1440p monitor soon eather the PB278Q from Asus or the GW2765HT from BenQ, (unless you guys think there is a better option for a 27 inch IPS 1440p monitor) My dilema is that I currently run a R9 280x, Will I get decent FPS with this card at 1440p or shoul I upgrade? I mostly play SCII, Diablo, Skyrim, FarCray4, and LOL. If in the case you guys think I need to upgrade will a 970 sufice or should I really go for the 980? Thanks guys fez
  11. So I suppose I'll get straight to the point. I am a music producer and have a home studio. I have 2x 900p monitors and a 1080p in the center. I need to get rid of the side monitors so I can put my speakers in their place, however a single 1080p panel will never, ever be enough real estate for my work. I'm looking to get a nice center piece monitor and probably find a way to mount another monitor (probably my current 1080p) above my new centerpiece. Now the question is, which monitor? 80% of the time I do music production work and video/photo editing. The other 20% of the time I play video games. I'm not so sure which would suit my needs better. I'd love the real estate the 4k monitor gives me, but I've read both good and worryingly bad reviews about it. Plus, is 4k even reliable technology at this point? The PB278Q, I've heard great things about and it's withstood the test of time, but I'm not so sure if the 1440p real estate will be enough for me. I'd love as much advice/input as you guys could give me on this decision. Thanks! EDIT: Oh, I suppose I should add the fact that I'm on a Reference GTX 980 as well.
  12. Hey, I am in the market for a new monitor and open to many different choices. I do a lot of programming and some light gaming (League of Legends, CS:GO). Up until recently I've had 2x 24inch monitors but nothing special. I am in need of an update and was considering 1440p. I found someone willing to sell me their PB278Q (http://www.amazon.com/PB278Q-27-Inch-LED-lit-Professional-Graphics/dp/B009C3M7H0) used for $360. I am wondering if that is a good deal or if I should hold out to see what monitors come up this year. Also if anyone is willing to chime in on 1440p vs a 1080p 144hz monitor I'm all ears. I'm having a really hard time deciding which would be more beneficial to me. Would I notice a difference with 144hz while web browsing and programming or only when gaming? Thanks!
  13. Hey guys! Having a bit of trouble deciding what to do with my monitor at the moment and was hoping I might get a little help on either sticking with what I have or upgrading. I've had my PB278Q for about 2 years now, and absolutely love it. Picture quality coming from a standard 1080p panel was mind blowing, and even to this day I'm still occasionally wowed when I stumble across an amazing native res picture, or play a game the complements the resolution perfectly... Though I have had it for 2 years, and kind of feel like I wouldn't mind trying something new. So my questions are: Would it be worth upgrading. Would there be a discernible difference in picture quality like there was from 1080 to 1440? How well is "ultra-wide" implemented, and is it a feature that sets it apart from normal monitors? Also, I was told to look at the RoG Swift for it's 144Hz and G-sync as apparently that's the better upgrade route to take. I've only ever played at 60Hz, so no idea if it's something that I'd prefer to picture quality, but I feel like my heart is with IPS panels as I'm the kind of guy who likes to push everything visually to it's absolute limits (and from what I've read, a TN panel compromises that) Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  14. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the Asus VG278HE & PB278Q. Will be hooking up my xbox one and PC to the monitor for games (Halo, Gta online, Farcry, League etc... I pretty much play any game except for sports stuff) and netflix. Which would I be better off getting? My gpu is a GTX 780.
  15. Hi Do you guys think 1440p is worth it over a smaller 1080p panel, but 1440p costing twice (or more) as much. My eyes have stumbled upon the Asus Pb238Q (230 euro) or the Asus Pb278Q (480 euro) My uses would be gaming, but primarily working, coding and such. I was thinking of going 1440p because I feel i can fill up my 900p laptop screen fairly quickly. Thank you

Hi guys, Thanks to this forum I recently decided to go with an IPS Monitor instead of the Asus ROG Swift since gaming isn't my primary concern. I was going to go with the PB278Q but then I noticed that there is a revised version out here in Europe. Now I'm asking if anyone has actually seen or even owns the new Asus PB278QR? If so, how good is it? Is it better than the PB278Q? Thanks in advance Kind regards, IceExpress
  17. Hi guys I need help deciding between the Asus PB278Q® and the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q. Here are my use cases in decreasing priority (the first one being most important etc.): 1. web browsing and word processing // I'm a student at university / college 2. movie / tv-show watching // I'm mostly watching movies or tv-shows while I'm in bed, so the viewing angles of the monitor might play an important role here 3. gaming // casual, story-oriented FPS games (Bioshock, Far Cry, Fallout, Metro) and also some Battlefield, CS, CoD 4. photo and video editing // I open Adobe Photoshop every couple of months to do some minor editing and maybe once or twice a year I'll edit together some vacation footage in Adobe Premiere I'm willing to spend more money on the ROG Swift if I'm not missing out to much on the IPS benefits for movie watching. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance Kind regards from Switzerland, IceExpress
  18. Im looking around for a monitor that is 1440p and IPS and I narrowed down my search down the the BenQ BL2710PT and the ASUS PB278Q. BenQ BL2710PT - http://goo.gl/qXEY2H $399 ASUS PB278Q - http://goo.gl/W63xZE $594 I am struggling to decide which monitor to go with as reviews say that the ASUS one is better but as far as specs go they are pretty much the same but the BenQ being $195 cheaper Please vote on the poll so I can easily assess the information and feel free to reply for the reasons why I should chose that specific monitor.
  19. Hey everyone, I've been an Apple user for 28 years, ever since I could hold my own sippy cup. This is the first time I've ever thought I could take on the task of building my own computer, thanks to countless hours of YouTube tutorials from the likes of Linus and others. I've already ordered the parts with help from a build made on PCPartPicker, and the items are below: NZXT H440 MidTower Chassis Intel Core i5-4670k EVGA GeForce GTX770 (02G-P4-3771-KR) w/ backplate ASUS Sabertooth Z87 ASUS PB278Q Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4) 1866MHz NZXT Kraken X60 Cooler Master V850 Phanteks PH-F140XP (x2) - for X60 cooler Samsung 840 Pro 128GB (x2) Seagate 2TB Solid State Hybrid Drive Dual boot I'm looking at a Linux/OS X or Windows/OS X combo, we'll see. I'm a little intimidated with all the cabling and fan connections, I'll just have to take it one step at a time. Any advice, pointers, feedback, or smack for this first time builder? Thanks for this tremendous resource by the way, great site! *Parts arrive Tuesday!
  20. Hey guys, so I'm in the market for a couple of new 1440p displays, mainly for professional color work but some occasional gaming might come up. The ones that I'm currently looking at are the Dell U2711 - a true masterpiece, which sadly seems to be going extinct over here in Sweden, with the prices shooting for the stars (currently approaching 1500USD) - and the Asus PB278Q, which I have read great stuff about and it often comes up as one of the most recommended 1440p monitors. But here's the thing, I'm fairly sure that I'm going to pick one of those two, but I would love to hear from you guys if there's anyone with experience with both the U2711 AND the PB278Q monitors. I'm running a couple of the U2711's at work, and need something that can stack up to the quality of those monitors when working from home, hopefully without having to shell out 4-5k USD. Appreciate any input on the question, thanks in advance!
  21. I'm choosing between: -Asus PB278Q for 527€ -Dell U2713HM for 498€ Use: gaming and movies Which one is better? I'm also open to suggestions for other 1440p displays for around 500€
  22. Hey What of the two monitor would you recommend Asus PB278Q Dell 2713HM Or is there a better recommendation in the same price range? Thanks in advance
  23. I've currently started to build a new computer and wanted to know where I should start upgrading this computer. The computer was a pre-built computer, Dell XPS Studio 7100. The current parts in here are: Current Build Monitor: ASUS VE245H Case: CM Storm Stryker (Full Tower) MOBO: stock motherboard (Stock) CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor (6-Core) RAM: stock 8GB (4 x 2GB sticks @1333MHz) Hard Drive: Western Digital 500GB 7200rpm, 16MB cache (Boot Drive) GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 (1GB GPU) PSU: Corsair GS600 Desired Final Build Mobo: ASUS Z87 Pro (CURRENTLY HAVE, sitting in box) CPU: Intel i5 4670K or i7 4770K RAM: Corsair Vengence 16GB (2 x 8GB @1600MHz) SSD: Samsung 840 EVO (120GB/250GB) GPU: GTX770 Superclocked with ACX cooling (4GB model) or Gigabyte GTX780 (3BG) Monitor: ASUS PB278Q or QNIX QX2710 Cooler: Corsair H100i PSU: Undecided Again, the ASUS motherboard is sitting in the box in the corner of my room. Which part should be upgraded first to yield the best improvement for gaming? Looking to play Battlefield 4 without the current stutters I'm getting. Any suggestion is wanted too. Thanks.
  24. Hi, I'm wondering what monitor I should get for my gaming PC. This PC is mostly used for gaming, no colour processing or video editing. This is not my work PC, I have a macbook pro for that (spare me the hate). I'm currently using a TN 1080p monitor and a GTX 780 Ti is driving it. I basically play FPS games (BF3, CS:GO, Titanfall) exclusively and I'm looking for a new monitor. So: ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q at 829 CHF or ASUS PB278Q at 499 CHF or anything else that is available in Switzerland. Do you think the Swift is 66% better than an the PLS? Any thoughts?
