Hello people of the interwebs, I hope this topic is in the correct section and that someone can help me out here. I'm currently in the process of finding an alternative for KeePass in our Office. Currently we use multiple databases and restrict access to the folder locations inside windows, so that not every employee e.g. can gain access to the database with the administrative data in it. First I thought of hosting Bitwarden in a Docker-Container on our Synology NAS but the way Bitwarden is structured doesn't really work for us. KeePass' structuring of folders, subfolders and multiple entries in each of them is exactly what we need for our password database. We are a SAP Partner and do have to manage a lot of customer server environments with a bunch of passwords per system. In KeePass I can have a Folder for Customer A, B, C, etc...., and inside that folder a nice structured list of all the accounts/users and passwords for those customers systems. The Problem is, that KeePass doesn't feel really designed to be used with multiple users, as you cannot give authorizations to any users. I want all of our shared password databases inside one database and then give permissions to users to control which passwords they can access. Also everyone should be able to have a personal space inside that database to manage their own passwords (E-Mail, etc.) So basically KeePass but with the user control you have with PM's like Bitwarden, Nordpass, etc. I hope this description can be understood. Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Cheers, McFly

Hi All! I noted on the video released today (17/15/2021) "Don't wait for the Switch Pro, Buy This Today!", I noticed that the sponsor is NordPass and no longer Lastpass. Has Linus explained at all why the change and if he no longer recommends Lastpass as a result? I am concerned that this is another Tunnel Bear but without an explanation. Please let me know if it was discussed on the WAN show or on Twitter or on the Forum just so that I can see his position on it if he has said anything at all.

I decided to get a new password manager and lastpass looks interesting. Any user on this forum currently using it that could give me their opinion on it? The yearly membership looks cheap so I'm wondering if i show actually get it after the trial. Something to consider for me is that I'm an ios user with windows pc so i need something that's available everywhere. Any particular issue you have with it?

Summary Dashlane has announced the end of support for their desktop app to users today via email and blog post. While current installations of the app will continue to function for the time being, no updates will be released and the link to download the desktop app has been removed from the Dashlane homepage. After reaching out to Dashlane support, I learned they plan to add the VPN service to the web client at a future date, but is currently only part of the desktop app. Quotes My thoughts Dashlane does not address the absence of their VPN service as part of the move to the web-only interface in the announcement. For users who chose Dashlane for the inclusion of the VPN with the $59.99/yr premium subscription, the desktop app can still be downloaded via direct link here. Summary A German born photographer living in San Francisco feels like he’s going crazy because he can’t access his Bitcoin wallet worth $220 million because he has forgotten his password My thoughts And then there’s me thinking how I wish to myself I was an early adopter of Bitcoin just like Mr. Stefan Thomas. Just like the rest of the Bitcoin millionaires in the news, he’s also an early adopter way back in 2011 when he was living in Switzerland but it was given to him as a reward. He kept it in an encrypted, password protected wallet which he can’t recover due to his lost password. Just imagine how much richer he could’ve been. Now he can’t stop thinking about it, as if he’s going crazy. Now the take away from the story is to use a password manager to remember those passwords for you, especially for those stored years ago. I do not recommend using pen and paper to write those down just like Mr. Thomas. But remember that when investing whether it’s stocks, bonds, or even crypto, do not put your eggs on a single basket or else nothing will be left. Unlike bonds, stocks and investment funds that is protected and regulated, cryptocurrency is decentralized hence you’re on your own. Also, unlike banks with depositor insurance mandated by the like of FDIC ($250,000), crypto has none. But the guy in the story doesn’t seem to have gone poor because has put all his money to BTC more of regret and disappointment because he cannot remember his password. Let’s also not forget that crypto is a favorite of cybercriminals as if it’s a low hanging fruit. Ransomware authors often demand monetary ransom in a form of crypto and hackers exploit vulnerabilities in public ledgers. So, banks are still the best place to store money and for safer investments, talk to a legit financial adviser about investment choices with varying aggressiveness in earnings. Nonetheless, this is not the last person in the news about forgotten Bitcoin passwords as their values become even higher. Sources New York Times

Does the password manger keepass support autotype / autofill for desktop applications such as games? I understand it does autotype for websites on browsers but it would be also useful to have the same for desktop .exe files / applications.

So, I'm still trying to remember my LastPass master password and resetting a LastPass account is not as easy as resetting a Facebook account with just an email address and a password. While at it, what are the good paid password managers that syncs with all of my computers and works with iOS and Android that isn't LastPass? I've read in this forum about Enpass. Is it good?

Just a quick note if you have set up your less tech-savvy family with Intel's Truekey password manager, or use it yourself. This software will no longer support facial recognition as of 12/Sep/2017, so you may wish to get your person set up with a master password that they know and will remember, as otherwise they will be locked out of Truekey. I personally have found the app super useful for all my 100+ work passwords and having the facial recognition has been perfect to just get on with signing in to the websites and for two-factor authentication. The app stores a few passwords for free but requires a paid subscription to store more. It's a little odd that Intel would discontinue what I see as the main feature of the software, but I guess that's their business. You can use the Truekey app through the Edge browser in conjunction with Windows Hello to get your face unlocking again, but this requires the specific hardware for Hello and the use of Edge... What is a decent password manager people like to use? I do not mind having to pay, but obviously something not super expensive.

Intro: What I have and what I know Antivirus So I've been using McAfee for a little over a year because my Dad said it's one of the best anti virus, but my Dad only knows the big brands and was somewhat good with tech but what he's been using for a while isn't the best anymore, especially to many tech enthusiasts like me and everybody on LTT forums. VPN I also never use VPN unless I might need to unblock some random sites (no, not Porn) in countries overseas so for stuff like that I just use some random free VPN I can find on the Google Play store. The problem is most free ones don't really work that well and usually degrade the quality of the WiFi connection to the point that it's unusable, and some work enough to unblock sites but when I try to keep it on when I do my normal stuff, the WiFi becomes unsuable. Password Manager So I used to use a free password manager that was really good, 1Password, but I honestly never really needed it cause there was like one main password I used for almost everything and sometimes (rarely) would I modify it for some sites. But it's paid for the PC and when I changed phones, I just decided to stop using it. Then I started to need to sign up with many more very important sites because I started having to look at colleges, start studying for the SAT, and take AP exams, etc. And I also started really changing up my passwords, to the point that it was definitely impossible to remember them, so I started looking towards ways to organize my passwords. When I asked my Dad if he could let me buy a password manager I really liked he said, there's no use, just do what I do. What he does is write his passwords in a document and changes parts of the password that he uses often into little codes and it makes it quite unreadable. So for some time I used a combination of binary, coding syntax, a secret language my cousin made up a while ago, Cesar cipher, and used in weird ways to secure my passwords that I would put into a document on google drive. And I guarantee that anyone who tries to decode them would not be able to, here's the whole current list Data Set Inpeeps = Eeep Langeep; Int varEeep = Norm; inputShift(even.Num) = inpeep.Num(odd.Num); Ex.input {1st key = [Int indexNumber myEvnShft = OdShft;]} Ordeep = code.bineep; lrn = educateep, scheep; frum = foreep, Teep’s Hardweep; shp = Ebeep, Amazeep; prfsnl = busineep, careep; prsnl = meep, priveep steep; gmng = videep geeps, gameep acceeps; ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890!@#$%^&*() 00000001Int lrnCnnUggru = Epvkbjkj4499!; 00000010Int frumPiitXiitXiit = Jgrxm&&!!; 00000011Int shpTkkvKmm = Litzo((##; 00000100Int prfsnlOummx = SlihuvuKv2qAA%%; 00000101Int frumcwoozLooz3 = Pmx4sCC&&; 00000110Int prfsnlZm8umzoqq2 = Roz6uEE((; 00000111Int gmnga3xss4 = Yron121Q28wGAGA; 00001000Int prsnl!WOOZ = S40ypxyxatqICICI; 00001001Int gmngV1!uww8 = cvsr565UKKK; 00001010Int prfsnlnyy0p3y&yy0 = W8$3t232exuGGGGG; 00001011Int lrnY!8811@X11@ = gzwv909YII; 00001100Int prfsnll71633$ = i2ya@*7QQQ; 00101000Int manyvids = hello7tele89wo#rmus; But my process was too slow and if I was to make it less complicated then it wouldn't be that secure and I would not be able to put it onto a cloud storage service like Google Drive. I also had way too many passwords and I've decided I'm just gonna use a password manager. Need: What I'm looking to gain from you guys What I'm here for is to ask you guys for... Good Antivirus: I think I'm gonna switch to bitdefender ASAP cause I've heard a lot of great things about it. Good VPN: When I was checking bitdefender's plans I found that you can add their VPN to it but when I searched up about it, people said it's just a rebrand of hotspot shield (or something like that) and it's really bad. So I need a good VPN that is able to protect my data and privacy from my ISP and anything bad. Good Password manager: Lastly, I want a good password manager that people like, trust, and actually recommend to others. I also need it to have these requirements Support for PC and other devices, most importantly Android. It needs to work well with other devices and not just a good PC app but an Android app that was just thrown together with a shitty UI (like the Steam app on IOS) I also want to be able to store a bunch of passwords. And any other features would be good like it works well with android to the point that it could ask me if I want it to fill a certain app's password when it comes up or that it auto fills in google chrome well unlike Truekey's trash autofill (although I haven't tried it in a while so it might have improved) I am kind of asking a lot but just please tell me what you can and help me out to the best of your abilities. All help is appreciated

Hi all, hope you are having a good day. I'm looking for a free and easy to use password manager and need recommendations. Do also recommend ones that are paid for if they are also really easy to use and set up and if they are at a really reasonable price. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I've been trying to open a .pwm database/file for a while now and I'm out of ideas. I want to either open the .pwm file with the software it was created with or get it imported into my current password manager KeePass 2. I used some kind of password manager WAY back in mid 2006 (based on modified file date), so it's kinda hard to track down which software I used to create this... Any Google searches for opening up a .pwm file come up with ThinkVantage Password Manager which only runs on Lenovo machines (which I never had). Also Password Dragon seems to use the .pwm file extension, but after several tries this also couldn't open it. I tried a bunch of other password managers today, but none could open/import it successfully. If you guys have suggestions and could help me try to figure out what software it was that can open/import this type of password database file, that would be great. Remember this was around mid 2006, so it the password manager should be for Windows XP (so no mac/linux password managers). I'm pretty sure it was a standalone application (not a browser extension or some type of script). Hopefully you guys can help me out, if you need more information I'll try to answer as best I can. Thanks

So recently changed @ work to a macbook pro and started noticing that I have way too many passwords and got no clue which password I have everywhere. The reason I didn't use a pw manager yet is because I barely change devices so chrome knows most of my password but that doesn't suit me anymore. So I started looking into pw managers. I'm looking for a free one. That has to work on mac (apps), applications on windows?, android and chrome. No need to use it for windows itself or mac itself as I mostly use my fingerprint and at work it's a password that has to change every 40 days. I'm a developer so some passwords like GitHub for instance I have to be able to still type it in bash etc and then there are applications like steam where it would be cool to have. I know I'm very specific but any recommendations on such a password manager?
