Hello, I would like to know if anyone have this UPS model: APC Smart UPS RT 1000 here's a link: https://www.se.com/fr/fr/product/SURT1000XLI/smartups-online-rt-onduleur-1000va/ apparently it is an old UPS and I would like to know if it's ok to use it with modern hardware, here's my pc specs: cpu: Amd 3950x gpu: MSI rtx 4090 gaming trio psu: MSI MPG A1000G two hardrives 4to and 8to I got that UPS from my father's friend who claims that he had it for two years and then removed it because he doesn't need it right now, so he gave it to us to test it. I don't know how long it has been working. My main work is about 3D modeling and rendering, I want to protect my PC from outages (its been happening a lot these days), is that UPS system good for my needs even if the UPS itself is old and my pc specs are recent? Thanks everyone

WD's MyCloud Web services, that are used to access, setup and manage their local MyCloud NAS Devices, have gone offline, leaving Customers locked out of accessing the Data stored on their local NAS Drives. Summary WD's MyCloud, local NAS Devices, where customers can store Data on their local network connected NAS Devices, seem to be fully reliant on cloud services to function at all. As of the time of writing, the WD MyCloud Web services have been down for over 12 hours, leaving customers unable to access data on their local devices. Looking at the Service Status of the outage, just about all functionality of these devices is completely broken - status.mycloud.com While customers can configure to enable access to the device locally on the network without the use of the mycloud cloud utility. THIS FUNCTION CAN ONLY BE ENABLED VIA THE CLOUD UTILITY!!!! So, for those of us who didn't foresee such issues, and just expected that we would be able to access out data locally if something ever happened to the cloud service! We are all completely out of luck! One Customer of the WD forum wrote; My thoughts Given how completely the functionality of these devices has been broken after WD's cloud services went offline, it certainly does make me worry about how much our devices are reliant on cloud-based services, and when these services go down or when they are no longer supported, what happens to all our own personal data. Especially considering this is a device that is installed and connected on the customers local network, such reliance on cloud services is almost like planned obsolescence getting backed into the device from the beginning, Sources https://status.mycloud.com/os4 https://community.wd.com/t/my-cloud-home-service-outage-02-apri-2023/282845 https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/34991/~/how-to-enable-local-network-access-to-data-on-my-cloud-home-using-the-dashboard

Summary Amazon Web Services, the leading cloud provider is facing an outage, causing issues to many enterprises. Users complain they can't access the AWS Management Console. The outage seems to be in the us-east-1(Virginia) region. Services around the world have been brought down due to this outage. The issue started at about 10:45AM ET. EC2 instances have been facing API errors. Quotes My thoughts Welp, this is going to cause a lot of problems for enterprises. Symphony(a messaging tool), for example in my dad's organization has stopped working. A mail my dad received: EDIT: The management console seems to be up. Though, Symphony is still down in my dad's organization. EDIT 2: Most issues seem to be resolved now. Symphony is still down for some weird reason. Here's a timeline of the issues, Credit: https://status.aws.amazon.com/ Sources https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/aws-us-east-1-outage-brings-down-services-around-the-world/ https://www.theverge.com/2021/12/7/22822332/amazon-server-aws-down-disney-plus-ring-outage

GNOME, known for it's ever popular DE (Desktop Environment) on Linux, is experiencing a “Major Outage” with 8 out of it's 13 websites not being available for the end user. Notable infrastructure outages include: Pastebin, GNOME Extensions, Nextcloud, Main GNOME Website. Other less vital websites, such as Damned Lies, Blogs, Surveys, and Shop, are also down. Summary These outages have hindered user access to extensions that tie into the GNOME Shell, and download various media on the GNOME website. This shouldn't cause a major impact as these services are not a part of the main GNOME infrastructure, unlike their DNS service, which is still currently operable. Below is Quoting the Official status.gnome.org Website as of 21:40 PST My thoughts It's possible these websites are currently down for updates. However, the unlikeliness of having this many main websites of the GNOME foundation down, is slightly odd. A pain point for me is the GNOME extensions, as I would like to download some. Summary 22 January 2022, Roblox went down for some users due to the large number of users. Quotes from Twitter posts: My thoughts Knowing how some other companies utilize cloud resources and scale, is it just me or 6.8 million does not look like so big of a number anymore. Probably not the whole system but some specific games like mentioned Pet Simulator X had "too many" users. I think I read somewhere that it was the highest number of users since August 2021, but I cannot find the quote anymore. It would be interesting to know what actually had happened and where the bottleneck was from the architectural and technical point of views if someone has more information about the incident. So I have a small Cyberpower UPS under my desk, which I bought because the power goes out absurdly often in my area (around twice a month for multiple hours each time). It can only run my main PC, NAS and a monitor for about 8 minutes, but that's enough time to at least shut down everything properly. So the UPS makes a VERY loud noise when it begins running off the battery, which is especially annoying because as far as I can tell the only way to stop this is to hold down the single button on the unit, which turns the whole thing off. So fine, kind of bad design, a bit annoying, but fine. Here's the problem: recently (it's happened three times now) the UPS is being triggered, and made the VERY LOUD CONTINUOUS NOISE when the power ISN'T ACTUALLY OUT. I've tried multiple wall outlets, it's happened on all three in my room. I haven't been running anything off of the UPS the last week or so because being woken up at 4 AM by this is not fun. What could this be, and what can I do about it?

Hey All, I’m a fan, and yet certainly nowhere near the tech level most of you are in here. I am writing this post to get some insight/thoughts in to why ALL of AT&T’s once visible internet servers have vanished. I have attached a screenshot of my OOKLA speedtest where I typed in AT&T to find a legit server and ALL the U.S.’s servers are just gone. The only one’s that pop up are in Mexico. I have called AT&T and spoke to a supervisor on multiple occasions only to find out they are clueless. Anyway, I trust you guys probably know what’s up so if you have any details I’m anxious to know more. Thank you in advance. E. Technical Details: UVerse gigabit Service Jacksonville, FL PACE AT&T gateway, as pass through only Linksys Velop IP6/AX wireless mesh systems, excellent RSSI throughout 35-59 Tests are being conducted on a hardwire directly to the Gateway

Hello I have been dealing with an issue for the past week with my computer randomly loosing power in a weird way. first the displays lose power and go into no signal sleep, then my sound. I am unable to do anything unless i restart it, the weird thing is anything i have connected to usb (Logitech keyboard with lcd screen and rgb, Razer Mouse, Razer firefly mousepad) will stay on but not respond. I have removed the PSU and cleaned it, I have checked all connections and cleaned everything else. i have ran Furmark, intel cpu stress test, Memory checker and a couple others i also ran a ton of virus scans (to be thorough) and it is still doing it. I have checked the Event Viewer and it shows this. To start things off I did some research around the forums and there are people asking for help in these area but not so much of information being given. I would really like a breakdown since 3 days ago a video was posted on the YouTube channel about high wattage power supplies. First is my issues and where I went wrong; recently in Western North Carolina we have been getting some storms in the afternoon for the past two weeks. On Thursday we had some power outages that where about 5 minutes apart for the total of 4 times. I didn't think much of it since I was already in bed, if you can guess where this is going I lost two machines to this. First was my machine, I logged into a game I frequent to notice that my frame rates where dropping low... like 20s low. My machine is a i5-4430 with 16gb Corsair Ram with a Evga 970 SC and Corsair CX750M power supply. I also started to notice that my video card drivers would crash and recover, after some research I narrowed it down to my power supply not putting out enough juice. THIS IS WHERE I MESSED UP. I built a machine for my wife which is a i5-3350p 8bg Gskill ram with a Thermaltake SMART SP750M power supply. Since I have my wife's machine turn it self off I unplugged everything pulled the power supply out and notice it was a little dusty nothing crazy since i blow my cases out once a month. I took the Thermaltake out and place it into my machine and powered it on to test if this is why my frame where low. Everything booted but i started to notice the smell of burning electronics so i powered off. I thought... It was just dust falling into the power supply so I crabbed a BestBuy house brand 500w power supply from my 3D printer and plugged it in since it was pretty clean and practically new. This time one of my hard drives a WD 1T Blue CAUGHT FIRE! I instantly yanked the power out and waited for the smoke to clear. I thought to myself that this was odd so did a power test on the 500w PS and plugged it into my wifes machine and tried to get her system back up. Here is where stuff got weird and where I suspect the issue started, her Seagate 1tb HD was not being read. The comp would just go straight to the bios so I tried an SSD that was in my machine it also did not pick up. As a last resort i had an old laptop hard-drive that was a slow rpm that i swapped out for a SSD in my laptop and BAM it recognized it. I decided to BestBuy the next day and pick a new power supply for my machine, a hard drive and a ssd. I pulled a SSD that I was trying out in my ThinkServer for my wife's machine and by 1 pm on Saturday and I had both machines back up and running. Note i also grabbed a new surge protector for our machines and this is where my question starts. Are power supplies this sensitive to power outages? If I get a APC backup one for each machine and it powers down my machines is this really making a difference since the computer are still connect to the power grid? My wife doesnt use her machine much and it was already off during the power outages. It seems her power supply took the brunt of the damage. My power supply the Corsair seems to have taken some damage but my machine was running until i swapped them. Since my power supply never went into her machine and her hard drive was dead I can only guess that this is what killed my hard drive. Now that both machines are back running well... Everything SEEMS back to the normal, my fps is normal though I lost data. I understand what a surge protector does but does a battery back up really save your computer or just ensures a safe shut down and a possibility of saving data? Since computers are taking less power now is there a dang good way to fight back against power outages the last thing I want is to loose my 970 or my processor. Im not looking for a go google your question here (else i would of went to reddit), im trying to get some good feedback and maybe the team can do up a good video explain battery backup and surge protection. -Steve

Hey Verizon, what the hell? Not having a functioning 911 network and not letting the regulatory agencies know that your own bloody customers can't call 911 in the very real scenario that they have to request emergency services? Really? How do you screw up this badly and hope you can brush it under the rug? What the what? The fine seems pretty light, I'd say 10 times what they fined them just to send the very proper message that they need to get their shit together and stay on the ball with stuff like this. http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/18/8244041/fcc-verizon-911-outage-fine
