Pc Specs yes i know its old but its what iv got Mobo: Gigabyte z170x - Gaming 3 Cpu : i7 6700k Old Nvme : Crucial p2 gen 3 New Nvme : Crucial P3 Plus gen 4 So I recently brought a new name SSD and installed it to find that it wasn't being detected at all, not even showing up in the bios... The old NVME SSD which is in slot A (bottom slot) is working fine and has been for over a year, the new SSD which is going into slot B (top slot) isn't at all, I tried taking them out and swapping them around, and then the new SSD is detected perfectly fine in slot A and then the old SSD in slot B isn't showing up, iv been through the BIOS turning on AHCI, and CMS, turning off Fast Boot and anything that I could find on the internet and here on the forums and its still not being detected... I thought it may of been a sata problem as I have 5 sata drives plugged in so unplugged them all except for one as that's what windows is installed on, i left that one sata plugged into slot 5 as that one is still active when 2 nvme SSD are installed in the system, but still nothing, i then tried booting with all the satas removed ( expect the os drive ) and the Gpu incase of a PCIE lanes limitation and still nothing at all, in either disk management or the bios. The drive is definitely getting power in the top slot as it was getting warm to the touch after being installed and the system running for a few miniutes. What gets me the most puzzled is that there has never been a drive installed in that top slot for it to fail, and its not the drive as it works perfectly in the bottom slot... Anyone have any suggestions on any other ways of making this thing work or is it just a physical limitation of my older mobo and CPU

Hi there, I have a proprietary board from Dell, but it does have a PCIe x1 lane, so I'm seeing if I can make use of it by putting a PCIe x1 to NVME M.2 adapter to it. Any suggestions? I'm also adding a GPU and it has 2 slots, so I won't be able to use a side bracket. Thank you very much.

Hi Everyone! I am upgrading my motherboard from a MSI x470 Gaming Plus to an ASUS x570 Crosshair Hero. My question is in regards to my SSD's that I have in my old motherboard. I have my NvME SSD that is being used for my boot drive (includes Windows 10 OS) and then my 1 TB SSD for my installed games. Before I transfer my SSD's would I need to erase the content from both drives or could I just plug everything into the new MoBo without having to do so? I just want to make sure since this is my first time upgrading to a new Mobo. Thank you,

Hello. I have a problem with my M.2 NVMe SSD (GP-GSM2NE3100TNTD (Gigabyte, 1Tb version)) and I hope you guys could help me out. The problem: My M.2 keeps disconnecting and I cannot access the information inside it. Sometimes, when I turn off my PC and disconnect the power cord, and turn my PC on again after that, the M.2 is working correctly. I managed to scan the M.2 with HD Tune -software and it showed no errors on the drive. Also, the M.2 works normally with other computers. Could this be a motherboard issue? I have tested both of my motherboards M.2 slots with no difference. My PC specs: mobo: Asus ROG STRIX X470-F processor: Ryzen 2700X graphics card: Asus GeForce GTX 1070 OC ram: G.Skill Trident Z RGB psu: 550W Seasonic Focus+ boot ssd: 500gb Samsung EVO I hope someone could help me or that someone has had the same problem and knows a fix to this. Thanks in advance.

My XPG S11 Pro 512 GB is not working. It was my windows drive and now it is showing incorrect size and shows as PCIE 1x2. Weird Fact: it has happened before as well (Twice in 10 months now). claimed warranty and got a replacement before. Happened again. SAME issue. Want to know possible reason. if it happened once, i would have assumed bad luck with faulty drive Any help would be great! I'm stumped. PC Specs: CPU i5-10400 with a thermaltake Riing cooler. Max temps 55-62 GPU Zotac 3070 twin edge Max temps after undervolting (68-72) Mobo: Gigabyte H410M Ram 16 Gb 2666 DDR4 Case Cougar Mx with 2 Front fans, one at the back, 2 on top. Side panel was tampered glass. broke it and got an acrylic panel with vents in it. Have a Silicon Power A2 SATA SSD 1 TB since almost a year, working fine. 2 HDDs, working fine. Used a Samusng 860 evo before as well. which I later shifted into my work laptop. still working fine.

Alright. My First post. here we GO. I got Samsung SSD 950 pro 256GB and is not showing up in the bios anymore. I have this pc for like 2 years now. It was working fine until some power supply fault took out my old MSI motherboard. Now I changed my motherboard with new processor and every drive is the same as before. The NVME SSD is sitting on my new motherboard and it is also the Boot drive with pre installed windows from the OLD motherboard. When I installed it on my new motherboard and turned on the PC it was working just fine. Then I turned off the PC and the next day I Power it on again and there was an ERROR about recovery. I wasn't really sure what's the problem. I restarted My computer and it worked fine and it was booting on its own. The error kept on showing for some days and I Ignored it. I just simply restarted the pc and it was working fine until TODAY. My NVME SSD is not showing up in BIOS but when I go to the boot option, The Empty drive option is right there which is my NVME drive. I clicked on it and Windows started Normally. But now I even Clean restarted the windows, Put the SSD in another slot. No USE it's just not showing up in BIOS. Please help T_T

Okay, so I have a ROG Strix x570-I mobo that has 2 M.2 slots, one of which is under a heatsink, the other on the back completely exposed. I already have a Corsair nvme as my boot drive installed under the heatsink, but bought a 970 Evo on a whim because it was a good deal. The problem is, I forgot that I don't have the second M.2 screw with me, and I don't want to drive 3 hours from my dorm to my house and 3 hours back just to get the second one. Can I steal the screw from the Corsair nvme and use the heatsink to hold down the drive so that I can install my 970 Evo? Does retention force even matter with nvme SSDs like it does with CPUs?

I have a 4TB NVME SSD, which I use for storing games from Steam, Epic Games, Origin, Blizzard, etc. I don't store the Windows OS on it, that's on a separate drive. Since I play the most popular multiplayer games right now (Call of Duty, Battlefield, Apex, Fortnite, etc.), there are almost daily updates that happen on this drive. Sometimes, multiple game updates are available at the same time, from multiple launchers. I usually perform daily updates on my games, so that I'm ready to play any time I want to, without having to wait for the download/install to happen for that game. I currently open these launchers in sequence, so that only one game update happens at a time. This is mostly a habit from my old HDD days, to prevent multiple parallel writes on the disk. I want to speed up game downloads/installs by opening all game launchers at once. I understand I will still be limited by the internet speed, CPU, single game download/install per launcher, SSD speed, etc., but ignoring all these factors, will multiple simultaneous game updates: 1. Adversely affect the life of the NVME SSD? 2. Adversely affect the future file read/write performance on the NVME SSD, since multiple files from multiple games will be split-up and spread across the drive (due to parallel downloads)? Thanks!

Which games support or will support DirectStorage? I'm looking to test out my NVMe drives against my SATA ones, and I'd like to see if there's a known list of games that support it. I went to PCGamingWiki and didn't see any list. I know a bunch of Xbox games support it, so I figured Windows games should start receiving support as soon as Windows 11 came out, but I haven't seen anything on it since it came out.

Hello there. I've recently bought a second nvme ssd, thinking that i could use it as my game drive. But it seems i don't have enough pcie lanes. After i installed the second nvme ssd, gpu performance got horrible so i checked it and it was running gen 3 x4. Uninstalled the ssd and realized that it runs x8 by deffault. What could be wrong? Where are the other 8 lanes? Will i be able to install my new ssd ever?

I want to have a 2 TB external game drive. It should of course not be too slow, since I will move 60-100 GB games of it and onto it every now and then. Since I'll be limited to USB-C (10Gbps) speeds anyway, is there any reason to spend more than a SN570? -It's pretty cheap - It cannot keep the advertised 3500 MB/s for long, but I won't hit those anyways, so it will hopefully not Throttle (anyone tested how long, if ever, until it throttles at 10 Gbs?) - It does not heat up that much, which is good because I won't have airflow - I think the missing DRAM cashe is more of an issue for a boot drive but not pure game drive (please educate me on that if I'm mistaken) In Germany a 2 TB SN570 is about 105€ right now, a 2 TB SN770 is about 125€. Can you tell me any reason to pay more, or do you know a better drive for somewhat the same amount of money? If you know a good USB-C NVMe Case feel free to throw that in aswell. (Sidenote: I cannot use 20 Gbs USB-C and a Thunderbolt Enclosure is too overkill and pricey for me)

I have an Alienware 17 r5 laptop and I want to buy Samsung 980 pro nvme ssd. Also I want to buy a heatsink for the nvme ssd and also thermal pad stickers. I will buy this heatsink https://www.amazon.ae/gp/product/B08CCNJZGK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3. I have two choices for thermal pad stickers:- 1) Arctic thermal pad sticker which has a thermal conductivity of 6 m w/k 2) Grizzly minus 8 thermal pad sticker which has a thermal conductivity of 8 m w/k 8 m w/k will transfer heat faster to the heatsink than 6 m w/k but I was told that you need an ideal environment which has excellent airflow to take advantage of the faster heat transfer and the heatsink will get rid of the heat fast because of the excellent airflow. My environment is not ideal because of the weak airflow to the nvme ssd area so the heatsink will get rid of the heat slower for me so there is no need for the heat to quickly reach the heatsink so it's ok if I use the arctic thermal pad sticker. Is what I said correct? I am worried that if I use the Grizzly thermal pad sticker then the heat will quickly escape from the nvme ssd but I may end up with a hotter heatsink because the heat will slowly leave the heatsink due to the weak airflow. Which thermal pad sticker shall I get?

Hi, I have a Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F motherboard and a Samsung 970 nvme m.2 drive and I installed it on socket 1 on my mobo it isn't covered with a heat sink because I lost the stand-offs for the heat sink one and installed windows on the drive and am using it in that socket but I found the stand-offs and want to move the drive to the socket with the heat sink but will that damage or corrupt the data on the drive or confused the computer or will it be safe and easy to do? Thanks,

Im going to build a VRPC for the loungeroom to plug my Quest into and also WiFi my quest to this PC. Im going to get a AMD Ryzen 5700x CPU and a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master Motherboard. Im thinking of getting a Gen 4 mvme for the C drive (What is a good 500gig drive to get?) Also, im thinking of getting 3 nvme drives 1 for Vive VR Games, 1 for Steam VR and one for Oculus VR. The issue is that I will need to get a SilverStone ECM23 M.2 to PCIe Adapter for one of the drives. Now would Gen 4 be better or can I get away with Gen3? Also, should I go with 2.5 SSD instead?

I have a setup with a amd fx8320 on a gigabyte 990fx-ud3 r5 motherboard. I'm searching for a new ssd for mine pc. Currently running a samsung 840 evo. I want to buy the the intel 600P(€98) with a PCIe to m.2 adapter card beacause its cheaper than a 850 evo(€120) and much faster. I'm also looking to upgrade when zen releases if it is in my budget. So the PCIe gen2.0 bottleneck disapears at that point. So the question is can i run a nvme m.2 ssd over PCIe on a am3+ 990fx motherboard that dosn't natively support it? Thanks for the answers.

Hey guys, I have recently ran into troubleshooting issues regarding my "Samsung 960 EVO M.2 250GB NVMe SSD" and my "MSI Krait Z170 X3 gaming motherboard". The issue came about when out of the blue my PC wouldn't post, I could only resolve the issue by taking out my SSD out of the M.2 slot, to which my PC boots twice and then begins working fine. The error that the board is illuminating is a VGA error. Can anyone please help, I have tried resetting the CMOS on the board but it doesn't help.
