Okay, so I need some help. I've tried so many things and at this point I need to make a post for help. I'm down to try everything I've already done before in the off chance it works now or I did it wrong the first time. The Issue: When I run a speed test on my desktop pc I get about 400/500 down and 100 up. I'm paying for gigabit and expect to see at least 800 (which if I recall correctly, was what I was getting when I first built my machine). When I run the speed test using my old laptop through the same ethernet cable, I get around 700/800 down and around 300/400 up. On top of that and the main cause for me trying to fix this is my ping spikes, especially in online games. Randomly (about once a match in Overwatch so every 20 minutes), I get a massive ping spike where my in-game latency goes from around 30-40ms to 600ms+ for a brief moment and then back down to 30-40ms. Hardware: My pc is a self built desktop running Windows 11. GPU: RTX 4090, CPU: i9-13900k, Motherboard: Rog Strix Z790-e gaming wifi. My internet setup is ethernet with wifi disabled (pc) to a Netgear network switch. From there it goes to a Unifi AP in my room, then it goes down to the basement into another Netgear switch. From that switch it goes into the Unifi USG, finally chaining to a Verizon router which links to the modem and then out to the street. I have managed to narrow things down somewhat. I have tested all the cables with a cable tester down to the network switch in the basement. I have also determined that the ping spike issue is somewhere local. As I have a cmd window up pinging my router and whenever I get a ping spike in game, the time in the cmd window goes from <1ms to 40/50ms+ I'm at a pretty big loss on what to do / try next. Maybe something is wrong with my computer? Maybe something is wrong with the network setup but I'm not sure how to diagnose if it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'd be happy to follow up with any further details if needed.

So I recently got upgraded to fiber but the new modem only has one working ethernet port while the old one had 4. I used to have 2 routers plugged into the modem, one for my main network, and one for my games server PC. But when I use the one working port on the new modem to plug into the old one and get the same configuration the router says "no ip". How do I achieve 2 separate networks/ routers with one port on the modem? I need them separate so I can port forward my server router without compromising my main router/ network.

Hii there. Sorry I don't know where to put this. I am currently looking at the Asus Proart mobos and I have noticed that the chip for the 10gb ethernet is a Marvell® AQtion 10Gb. I have heard that it's not a very reliable. I want to set up a 10gb homelab connections to move my nas into a server rack

Hi everyone, Super disappointed / mad at ASUS. Purchased a router in 2018 (GT-AC5300) and lately wifi just craps out on me. My wired connection also becomes non-responsive - the only way to get it to work again is by doing a factory reset. Latest firmware has been used. It happens at least once a month. Paid over $500 for what's now basically a paper weight after 3 years. Called tech support after this happening for like 5 months (I thought the issue was firmware related) and they say it's a 24 month warranty period and in their graciousness, added 90 days on top. Does me no good now. Needless to say, I'm never buying ASUS anything again, and for what I do buy, I'll def make sure to look at the warranty period. Which sucks, since I was looking at getting a asus motherboard for my next upgrade too. But alas. Yeah, I'm pretty salty AF :( What router should I get? Looks like Netgear and TP-Link offer some decent products. I am going to network my entire home soon (I just bought a switch, battery backup, patch panel and cable - going with cat6a), so I basically just need a wireless AP at this juncture. Something with wifi6 and wpa3 - I don't mind going for a high end one as long as it offers good performance.

Alright guys so I have this weird problem and I can't get my head around it anymore. So a few months ago I got AT&T 1GB speed internet. I didn't had a fiber optic connection into my house so they brought in a wire from outside. They could only bring it inside my house and AT&T modem ended up being on the other side of the house compared to a hole in my house where all the wires (coaxial and Ethernet) meet. So I took a 50ft cat5e cable and plugged it in the 5GB port on modem, took the other end to the hole where all the ethernet wires run and used a switch to expand ethernet slots and plug in all the ethernet wires. THE PROBLEM: Randomly I will have intermittent internet issue where internet would completely disconnect to one of the ethernet connection and would keep on connecting/disconnecting for a few seconds. Not all, just one. It happens randomly. I looked at the switch and it would show like one of the ethernets lights turning off for a few seconds and turning back on. I changed the switch, issue persists. I changed the 50 ft cat5e wire to 50 ft cat6. Issue still persists. Tried connecting directly into the router and all the ethernet connection through that but still see this issue. I don't know what to do at this point. I didn't use to face this problem with Comcast. Comcast coaxial cable would come out of that hole, I would have a router and a switch and would plug all the ethernet in that switch but here the only two variables compared to Comcast are the 50 ft wire or the AT&T fiber connection. If it was issue with that connection than shouldn't all the ports on ethernet go off? I keep contacting AT&T and they say device is working properly. I ask for a technician and that'll cost me 100$ that they'll waive only if there is a problem on AT&T side (device/connection). Any ideas what might be wrong with my setup?

I've been trying to troubleshoot this for about 6 months. Would love any insight or even guesses at what could be happening here as I'm at my wits end at this. Here is the quick description of whats happening: Randomly my internet drops out for a few seconds, rarely a minute long then it comes back. LAN is fine. This happens once a day, sometimes 2-3 times a day. Here is the long part: Watching the status page on Pfsense/Opnsense I can see that my WAN gateway starts slowly going up in packet loss percent. I think this is only affecting my upload. When on discord everyone says I'm starting to sound crunchy but everyone sounds fine to me. Same when playing multiplayer. For example in Arma3 I was told my voice was going crunchy, but in game everyone was walking around just fine no rubberbanding or the walking forever in one direction. Discord will disconnect me fairly quickly where as arma takes a while to boot me. Details: My ISP is GCI and it's a cable modem set as a gateway. Been using them for years and they are highly reliable, going down maybe once or twice a year. I've had techs check it out several times and it's fine. It's shown zero packet loss and very few uncorrectable in it's own logs. The hardware I've been using for 4 years now is a Jetway NUC PC with gigabit Intel NICs built in. Running PfSense. The switch I have is an unmanaged 1GB TP-link 24-port. Along with a Access Point. In PfSense I don't have anything setup like VLANs or VPNs just DHCP setup directing DNS requests to my PiHole running on an Raspbery Pi. UPnP NAT-PMP and some manually set port forwarding for my game servers. Other things on the network is my server running TrueNAS, a few PCs, Switch, PS4, IP Cameras tethered to Zoneminder. TrueNAS is running a handful of things, Samba shares, Plex server, SyncThing, Zoneminder, Mumble server, MineOS server. Now here is what I've done: All the coax cabled replaced and tested. Changed out all of the ethernet cables within my network. Everything is plugged into a UPS. Replaced the modem and the new version is 2.5GB version. So with a 2.5 GB modem I also decided to update my router. I bought a HUNSN RS34g, another intel NUC but with 2.5GB Intel NICs and a TRENDnet 8-Port Unmanaged 2.5G Switch. Reinstalled Pfsense fresh and restored settings from the prevoius router. I'm not sure when exactly this problem started but I think it was around PfSense version 2.6.0. Problem is still present. At this point I'm going crazy. So I wipe the install clean with Opnsense. Problem is still present. Few more things: I've messed with gateway settings, such as disabling gateway monitoring, changed the monitor IP to 1.1.1.1 to keep the ping off of the gateway. Disabled IPv6 on both LAN and WAN. Tried using "Override MTU" "Dynamic gateway policy". Also forced speed and duplex to both 2.5GB and 1GB. Unplugged just about everything at one point and this still happens. Also I completely reinstalled my PiHole on a new SDcard as well. Never consistent. I changed my listed IP other than the last digit holder; 66.77.123.1 is my ISP and 66.77.123.75 is my web visible IP address. Last bit of detail, the only time it happens "more" is when a friend is watching something on my plex, but even then it's not always going to happen, just slightly more. Frontier came out to install 2GB internet and left this heap that jumped out as soon as I opened the panel door. This house was built with Ethernet cables and a port going to every room so thats already done, now im trying to get the speeds we got to two desktops. There are no coax ports in any of the rooms that have desktops. As far as I can tell from the Sagecom specs, I wont be getting 2GB speeds if I use the yellow LAN ports on the router, which are the only available ports to get internet from ATM, so running a line from these only available ports wont work. Im thinking about maybe getting a switch? But I have no idea. Im also playing with the idea of just getting an entire new router that has 2GB ports. The thing is, ive never seen a setup like this before. Typically im used to a setup: Fiber line --> Modem-->Router-->computers but this is setup as follows: Blue Ethernet cable that comes from within the walls --> Sagecom WAN 2.5 port --> Coax cable from sagecom --> Moca Ethernet Adapter --> Yellow ethernet cable from the Moca ethernet adapter --> EERO Mesh routers. Please let me know if theres any other info I can provide. Im trying to see if there's something I can buy to get rid of all this mess, maybe keep the EERO WiFi mesh system and hardwire 2 desktops downstairs with the speeds im provisioned. Im also looking for NIC's that support 2GB. Devices in picture: eero Pro 6E Sagemcom FWR226e MOCA Adapter FCA252 (the other black wire is going to a Synology NAS, not concerned about 2GB speeds for this) I understand I probably wont be fully utilizing 2GB speeds, im simply looking for a solution that can clean all this up and get my two desktops (and possibly future hardwired computers) going. Any recommendations for hardware / setup would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

So we are clearing out clearing out a closet that used to have our furnace in it and want to turn it into a networking closet. We know how to wire up the house and such we just need to know what would be some good products to put in there. We were looking to use a cabinet rack style networking solution. so for a long time my Internet speeds on my computer were Fantastic this period it's been getting a lot Worse for some reason and i've tried a lot of tweaks and stuff but nothing happened it's becoming frustrating to use it that's if i can use it , i know the problem isn't from my ISP since my phone gets 10 mb/s but my computer only gets 2mb/s MAX which is weird i Tried formatting my computer at first it felt like it got kinda fixed i was able to get 6mb/s but after like 5 minutes it dropped down to 4mb/s and it got fixed there now my internet is back to 2mb/s i don't understand why it's like this i tried Flushing DNS and other stuff but nothing seems to fix this i'm Worried that i got like a virus or something on my Hard Disks i got 2 : 1- Has windows and essential programs 2- Games and Programs that i install after installing a clean copy of windows is there any one that can help me? thanks in advance i hope to find a solution for my problem cuz i can't keep going on like this specs : CPU : Intel pentium G4560 GPU : GTX 1050 8 gb ram

So I have set up in MI home a big network bc cannot get wifi through the wall and install new wiring isn't an option so I use powerline. Here is the setup: Printer--router--powerline--main router+modem--powerline--router--PC The problem is I cannot see any network past the last router on the pc, not the printer, not the hard drive connected to the main router. This doesn't happen anywhere else on the network so I believe it's the last router configuration. Any ideas are apreciated

I live in a two story house. I have the router in an office next to the living room on ground floor. I have a desktop PC in my room, that is currently connected to the internet via a 50m ethernet cable. I live in Greece, so I don't know if a powerline kit would work (cause of the 3 phases). The thing is that I don't know if a wifi repeater/extender is a suiting solution, since I get no wifi on my phone from that room sometimes. My connection is 12down/0.8up mbps. I'm thinking about upgrading to VDSL 50down/5up mbps. I have the following questions: 1) How can I make the powerline work? (I think it is the optimal solution, since I read powerline has almost 0 losses) 2) In theory what will be the losses if I end up with a wifi repeater? (with my current connection) 3) Should I buy a repeater that has max wlan speed over 600 mbps? Thank you in advance

So ive run out of options as to where to ask so why not the most tech savy people on earth, this forum. Right to it then. Ive recently run into a problem on my computer where any video game i play with a multiplayer wont quite work. The problem is that once i enter any game server there are no players, no characters, no AI. Games tested were Destiny 2, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, and Apex Legends. Now the weird thing is as well that even when playing in a party with a friend, they claim to see me however i cant see or interact with them, a fried shot at me and i didnt seem to notice or lose health. And although one might say there a connection problem, my connection is always solid and even though i wasnt able to play online games you know, online, i can voice chat my friends on platforms like steam, discord, i can still use search engines, watch youtube, etc. And im really clueless to this problem. I would greatly appreciate help here since i havent really found anything super useful on Steam forums, Reddit, Google, etc. Thanks a lot to anyone who does respond to my plea. Hello over Christmas I got the parts for an itx build. I want to use to as a steam streaming and some other things in my bed room, as such I need a decent connection with low latency unfortunately I can't run an Ethernet cable to it. I'm looking for a good way to get better connection to the room as I get sub 20MB and I get a bunch of lag in the steam any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I'm new here and I had a question. I have a pretty old laptop a Dell Vostro1510 and I wanted to give it a sim card so I can do my homework in pretty remote place due to my job requiring it. However, I bought the PCE-I and the Network stuff for it but I am not too sure on what to do next I have everything and I bought everything off of amazon. I do believe I think I just need drivers for it but I'm not totally sure what to do. I just wanna be able to do my homework on the go and not have to worry if I have a connection.

Hello, I'm having an issue where I have severe packet loss and a slow download/upload speed (All info is below). I'm trying to identify whether the issue is with my modem (~3 years old & provided by ISP) or with the cable owned by the ISP. I'm avoiding getting a technician over as if the issue is my modem, I'll be paying quite an amount on top of the cost to replace the modem. Hey guys so I am a photographer and I have a lot of pictures between my main computer and my laptop and it gets tricky to track and organize them all sometimes... is there a way i can store all my photos on my main computer and set up a connection between my laptop and my PC so I can transfer files between them? If so would this also work when my laptop is connected to let's say a friends wi-fi network in a different part of the city? I can offer more of an explanation since i probs didn't do a good job of explaining....

Is there a way to reduce speed of the internet, while connected to WiFi, on my ZTE ZXV10 W300 ? The speed needs to be normal when on Ethernet. I looked at the settings on the web interface, but couldn't provide anything like that I could understand. I don't mind flashing 3rd party firmware as long as it doesn't require a PC just for it.
