Hi yall, its me again... So I kinda need help figuring out what the heck is going on... I am using a 4G router/dongle for internet connection to my laptop (I have to cuz in my room its poor signal so I carry the internet over USB 2.0 cables to my laptop). Anyways the internet is working fine somehow and the speeds aint bad either but I was browsing a particular modding website, I clicked on a bunch of mods to download and tested them, they were ugly and or didnt even work so I commented them creators in comment section that some "real" stuff was unrealistic and so on... Unfortunately one of them creators was a moderator and I got permanently banned from said website, so I created new account and it got banned aswell... So this was what happened before I started tinkering with my IP and Mac addresses. I was googling what was going on and how to change IP cuz I assume that they IP banned me from there but they have mods and them mods are basically unvaiable from anywhere else... I havent found anything on how to change the IP address on the internet so I smacked the card into my phone and my IP has changed (twice)... Then I put the card back to the dongle and the IP went back to where it was before... then I tested phone again and it had the same as I had before on the phone (different from the dongle though) so I have found out that changing Mac address will eventually have a result of different IP address... anyways I put the card back to the dongle but used 2 USB extensions instead of 3 that I had before... and it changed the IP address... So if my brain process is correct, just changing a cable extension had a result of changing the Mac address? Hence it changed IP? Am I wrong here? If so, would this helped to avoid that boring IP ban? (just to make a note here, I kinda care about this cuz I have like 200 gigs of mods to make the game feel like a new game since I spent well over 250 hours in vanilla version that got boring long time ago and its basically fun only with mods, the problem is the mods require me to login and since I get banned when I login under new account, I cannot play). Also does hardware ID has any role in this case? I know yall dont know the exact system they search and ban people but if they see a new account, same IP they ban instantly but if everything is different, can they also see my hardware ID? If so then how to get rid of that? I was testing and everything for past 5 hours and its 5:20 in the morning now and I dont have energy to brainstorm this thing anymore so I came here to ask the pros, but please dont be toxic and dont comment with weird stuff like the last time I was here with an issue... I also have one more hardware related issue with my CPU being wanky in that laptop (it works but no matter what I do, after last windows update and last nvidia drivers update, the FPS goes to hell and in games where I had 60+ fps on GTX 1060 I have now 20-25 FPS on RTX 3060 but thats for another day since I havent tried everything yet). So please, just if you have some idea, share it with me, if you wanna just blame or troll me then ignore this topic, thank you alot ♥

I’ve looked at every tutorial I found and I just can’t find one that helps to change my MAC address on windows 10. I have used Ubuntu for a while and I feel it’s time to switch OS again (autistic, so I have this thing for switching things up every once in a while), I have used “macchanger” to do it but now I need it on windows 10, specifically a Samsung phone’s address, which no tutorial has provided a solution for (all 3rd party software gives errors because they can’t do such a simple task) is there anyone that have successfully done this?

So I‘ve been trying to change my mac address because of obvious reasons (I have an internet block from 8pm to 3pm and this is annoying me a lot), I wanted it to be the one of my phone (it got unlimited internet), ip address change wasn‘t a problem but the mac address is hard coded, so I couldn’t change it. So I‘m here to ask what to do next. Is there maybe some kind of emulator of a mac address or are there network cards where I can change the mac address? (Sorry for bad English)

So I'm using a H368N ZTEEG04E6R01093 and im trying to block a person in my house on my wifi, because the person is taking up waaay too much bandwith. (and yes i have a password on my wifi, also not a factory one) In the system settings for this router when you type in 192.168.1.1 and log in, you can simply block someone from your net like with other wifis. (This is because my ISP apparently choosed to remove certain features from this router for some reason) I know the method of blocking a network in the basic way, but it seems like when I try to use the "MAC Filtering" it wont work. (My guess for this is that i lack the knowledge of it, however I do understand it, the Filtering proccess for MAC, need a Source mac addres and a Destination address(http://imgur.com/a/7RlaV) and i don't know how to get hand of a Source and Destination address) Then there's IP Filtering. Okay this is something I quite not dosn't understand. (http://imgur.com/a/1S2yZ) I have all kind of ways of obtaining the IPs MACs and so on. This problem isn't like any other problem ive faced before so I need some help with configuring the Blocking proccess. Mainly becuase I don't want to be unable to use my WiFi at all only because one person is taking up all the brandwith. (No it is not possible to get more brandwith and also not faster network since it isn't available where i live)

so i have been reading about mac address filtering to restrict access to networks and it seems like a bad choice because it can be spoofed or other methods can be used to get around it. i want to know if there is any better option other than password protection or mac address filtering to secure a network from unauthorized users.

Hello~ I'm trying to figure out how I can change my Physical computer hardware ID or MAC Address. I do not know what part holds this information or if a simple Re-instal of windows could change it. I do not know if there is a permanent way or method to change the MAC Address. I also do not know if all of these are the same: Mac Address, Mac ID, Physical Address, Hardware ID. It's a long story as to why I need to figure this out but I'll try and sum it up here. I love warframe and made a bad purchase for steam packs off of Kinguin and I was marked as a Plat seller by Digital Extremes. I went through the process of elimination and determined that they banned my computers Physical address or Mac Address. ( PS4 and Xbox 1 are safe and unbaned 5 months post-ban with no VPN) While my computer on a VPN and even with a Registry edit physical address Change, I was still banned after a month. I need to know either if there is a way to permanently change my MAC address, Or I need to know what Part/s I need to replace so I can play again.

I was recently informed at my institution that network engineers now have the ability to detect the user of a VPN signal. For context, people here are using free vpn apps such as Hexatech to gain access to otherwise blocked websites. Network admin says this is illegal based on their rules. They have said that even on a VPN it is possible for them to identify device details such as a MAC address and then trace it back to the user. Is this possible?

Recently I've had to change (spoof) my MAC address. Unfortunatelythis has lead to Uplay and Origin not being able to connect to their respective servers. Steam seems to have no issues with this though, so I'd like to know if there's any way to fix this without changing back to my old address. Help is much appreciated.

My computer has been unable to connect to my router. Most other devices have no problem, but my tower in particular has been getting denied access to the router, despite showing that it is in fact connected, albeit with limited connectivity. I've tried rebooting the router, my computer, and I've checked to make sure my IP and mac address weren't added to a black list. Here is a snip of my router's logs from when I tried to connect. As you can see I've blurred out the mac address for security reasons (and the internal IPs don't matter), but I will say that the mac address shown for my computer is not the same on the router's logs as it is on my computer's system info. I have no idea what any of this means, just that something is causing my computer to be mistaken as a device that is not allowed to connect to the network. I've yet to try updating my wireless card's info, so I'll try that and update the post.

Hi, For a very long time I have had devices appearing and disappearing on any machine on my network. Here are the two most recent ones in 'Network' on windows: http://prntscr.com/6wlxqd Here is the properties window of 'e3_emea_3uks': http://prntscr.com/6wlebw Here is the properties window of 'C1905': http://prntscr.com/6wly81 I do not own any devices with the same name as those. I also do not own any devices with that MAC address. Currently I have limited my devices to three on the network. These are trusted devices. What I have tried: I first noticed a few weeks ago and so I changed my router password. At the time, this had seemed to get rid of them, however I was not paying close attention and only noticed last night that they were back. I found that my virgin superhub (provided by ISP) had many security flaws in router mode. I bought a Netgear R6250 today. Same situation. (I used a new password to set it up & did not enable WPS) I disconnected Ethernet from my desktop for 30 minutes. Whilst they still appeared on my laptop, they did not appear on my desktop. These mac addresses do not show up on 'Attached devices' on either the old router or new router. **EDIT** Other device names have shown up before, one being LG Electronics. I do not have the MAC address it displayed as it was not saved. These devices mentioned have never been on my network before. Only I know the network password, so anything would have to get by me. There has never been an unknown computer show up either Help would be appreciated , -James

Hi, For the last few months I have been getting random devices with different MAC addresses showing up on the network. I posted about this a month ago... however I've changed things a lot since then and felt it was best to make a new thread (old thread: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/352591-random-devices-showing-up-on-windows-network/) The issue is that, devices with MAC addresses that I definitely do not own are showing up on windows 'Network'. These devices do not show up on my routers 'Attached Devices' page. My router is a Netgear R6250. I have bought a new router (i used to use a netgear superhub but they have known security issues). I changed passwords & SSIDs twice, I've turned off SSID broadcasting, I've turned on mac filtering, I've turned off WPS. Security is on WPA2-PSK [AES] & passwords are 20 characters long & generated from strongpasswordgenerator When channel was set to 'Auto', i got these devices showing up... Here is the properties window of 'e3_emea_3uks': http://prntscr.com/6wlebw Here is the properties window of 'C1905': http://prntscr.com/6wly81 When channel was set to '13', i got these devices showing up... Here is the properties window of 'occam (seemingly a nexus 4??)': http://prntscr.com/6yj8bg I do not have a VPN running.. Thanks -James

One particular quirk, as just discovered by one eagle-eyed beta user, definitely advocates user privacy in that in randomizes your device’s MAC address before you connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, which also serves as a kick in the teeth for companies whose entire business is based on logging and tracking this information. When a device running iOS 7 or earlier goes out looking for a connection, it exposes your device’s MAC address. With some companies strategically placing hotspots in all manner of places – including trash cans – to get a hold of your data and log where you’re headed, iOS 8 fights your corner by obscuring your MAC address with a random, spoof address that periodically changes. This means that not only is your real MAC address being protected, but these entities that thrive off the information will not be able to trace you, and given how accustomed we’ve become to having our rights waived in pandering to the corporate interest You can see why some businesses have capitalized on this information divulged by your device’s straying signal. After all, it’s a good way of keeping track of, say, how many smartphone users are entering the vicinity – particularly if your product is of interest to this group – but with iOS 8, those utilizing this signal will have to look into alternative strategies. So, among the many other less prominent features of iOS 8, Apple has now rolled out MAC address spoofing. Given how much of a vested interest Apple shows in protecting the privacy of its users, it’s not all that surprising, but nonetheless, it will be gratefully received by consumers and conversely, met with dismay by those in the field of data tracking and marketing. So I've been getting a little yellow triangle over my wifi and it doesn't fully connect. It will work most of the time but it will randomly turn off and won't connect unless I reboot the wifi. My parents claim to have no issues at all, but both my Pc and phone won't connect. I've been having issues since my father installed a time counter, but I got around with changing my Mac through the advanced properties of the wifi chip thanks

If an MAC address conflict on a network is detected, what happens? How are the two devices treated? Are they notified of the conflict and do they lose their connection to the network? The reason for knowing this is, a bunch of my friends devices on my schools WiFi network are getting disconnected/disabled and i might need to start spoofing my computers MAC address to get around any blocks applied to my computers MAC address. I haven't been blocked yet, and hopefully never will be, but I would like to at least be prepared. What else should I know about MAC address spoofing, risks etc?
