Budget (including currency): 300 CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, Valheim, eventually more demanding games and school work. Other details (1660TI, I5 9600k, 550W PSU) Hey guys, So I've upgraded my gaming PC and got 1660TI, a i5 9600k, a 550W PSU to spare so I'm looking into building a computer for my kids who's going to play mostly Minecraft and Valheim. I was looking into 1151 socket motherboards and realized that they were way rarer or more expansive than I thought they would be. Found a microATX for 60$, but I don't know much about the different sizes of mobo, should I go micro? Thanks

as i recently got my first tower, i quickly found that the cooler was defective. however, upon ordering a replacement per my intel I7-7700's LGA 1151 socket, i realized that the cooler did not fit. i re-checked the listing, and it had multiple sockets listed in the title- LGA 1151/1150/1155/1156 & AMD AM4, which seemed strange to me. could it be these sockets all have the same size mounting bracket, or that the seller sent me the wrong one? how can i be sure of the size of cooler needed for my computer? any help would be great.

Budget : R2500 (~$175) Country: South Africa Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Some medium gaming, photoshop and programing. Other details: I basically need a motherboard to get the system going ,I already have an i5 9400f along with a cooler and a Gigabyte 960 4GB and a 850W Thermaltake PSU in my existing setup. There aren't a lot of good value 1151 Boards in SA and I've found the following board https://www.loot.co.za/product/gigabyte-h370-hd3-atx-motherboard-lga-1151-socket-h4/gdnm-5531-ga10?referrer=googlemerchant&gclsrc=ds PC part picker says I may need a bios update and this isn't something I've done before. I want a M.2 and a Wi-Fi card other than that I don't have any real preferences.

I found this weird cpu on ebay when looking for a i9-9900k. It is a i9-10980HK ES soldiered to an LGA 1151 adapter board to make it work for motherboards supporting intel Gens 6-10 cpus. It requires a special modified bios to work. looks crazy it says it can get up to 4.8ghz and some can overclock up to 5.5ghz all cores. I dont know if it is all bs or actually sounds like a fun project.

So if someone dropped a cpu and chipped the corner how had is it? I know in videos they assign pci slots to different vms can i do the same on the cpu? or a way to assign pci slots to a controler? Its a LGA 1151 i5 6400

Hi everyone i am making a list of items to upgrade my computer with as my current haswell setup is sufficient to say the least but not optimal for performance, however i don't know what CPU cooler i should be going with for my i7-7700k i'm planning to buy. i've already chosen my Motherboard and RAM MB: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Z170X-Gaming-LGA1151-DDR4/dp/B013E37HCI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492610230&sr=8-2&keywords=GA-Z170X-Gaming%2BG1&th=1 RAM: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMK16GX4M2A2400C16-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B016BWEQYG/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1492607992&sr=1-1&keywords=corsair%2Bvengeance%2Bddr4%2B2400mhz&th=1 is there any GOOD cpu cooler i can get for roughly £30? ( roughly 40$ on current exchange rates) i must add a note i don't want any water cooling as i've already planned out a lot of money on my tight budget for this as you may probably be able to understand. so a good quality heatsink for my future LGA 1151 socket would be preferable please i will also be planning to orientate my Heatsink so it blows out the top of my case to go with the airflow of my case (check my profile for my current rig setup) many thanks: Harry (TheONLYHamster)

Hello LTT community, I've been having problems with Windows 10 and my motherboard recently. Three desktop shortcut images won't load (CPU-Z, ASRock APP Shop, and ASRock A-Tuning Utility), and I've already tried to soft restart, hard restart, manually select shortcut icons in the properties menu, but nothing seems to be working. My motherboard is a Z170 Extreme4 with an i7-6700K installed. It's been showing two postcodes: 30 and 40. The manual says they're related to memory and the CPU, but they went away once during a restart. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Thanks, DAGGER51

So ive seen with this video: that the G4560 is superior in every way to my original I3 2120 HTPC but i wanted to check if this information was correct so if anyone can verify that the G4560 does actually perform this well that'd be great. The reason for this is because im probably going to give up on a Ryzen build as the price for ram thats fast enough to not slow the r3 1200 is ridiculously overpriced. Instead im going to go for a smaller Mini itx sporting a G4560 with a single 8gb 2400 stick of ddr4 which is cheaper than my original Ryzen plan with enough leftover for a nice fractal design nano s that has great watercooling support for me to use my watercooled GTX 480 in it which will be plenty for a HTPC gaming pc.

Hi, I am planning for a DAW PC but stuck with a grueling question; Which CPU gen should i bet on - 6, 7, or 8 in order to assemble a system with prolonged compatibility with relevant chipset? I know that each year better CPUs are getting better. Recently Intel went on a rampage releasing new sockets and chipsets TOO FREQUENTLY with TOO LITLE OF A GAP. So which generation CPU and which chipset motherboard should i go for long term upgradability. Currently thinking about: LGA-1151 Socket CPUs (6th or 7th gen) Chipset: Q250 or H270 PS: I don't abuse my system. So, when i say "long term", i know that under a reasonable amount and well care, it will run for many years.

Having Issues with a new build, these are the specs: MSI Z170A SLI Motherboard i3-6100 8gb SK Hynix DDR4 2133 (2x4) ULT-LSP750 750w PSU When I power on the system, it will not post. The EZ Debug LED For DRAM stays on for about 3 seconds, then switches to CPU for about 1 second, then goes back to the DRAM. This cycle is never-ending, and nothing I have tried has worked. I've tried each stick in each slot, I've tried them in every possible combination of slots, I've rest the bios, I've tried a different motherboard, I've tried a different PSU. Nothing has worked. Help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So me and a friend have been troubleshooting this issue down to the motherboard, tested different CPUs and power supplies, triple checked connections, checked for any bent pins in the socket and if any components have been broken off or moved. My system would either: Turn completely off as soon as I power it on, then continue to loop on and off. Loop on for a couple of seconds, off for a couple of seconds and then on again. Turn on, stay on, but no display at all prompting me to do anything. My monitor wouldn’t detect a signal. This has been a frustrating issue that has stopped me from doing productivity work. Yesterday my friend also brought his motherboard speaker, double checked for the right connections and upon turning on, gave us no sound, providing us no indication of what’s going on. Any bit of help would be wonderful, even if it’s just a small bit. If needed, here are my PC specs: i5-6400 Hyper 212 EVO Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3 PNY Anarchy 16GB 2133 MHz EVGA 550W PSU Non-Modular/No 80+ Rating Corsair Carbide 200R

So I have been contemplating making the switch or upgrade rather, to an i7-9700K CPU. The thing is, with my current build, in order to do that I would need to buy a new motherboard and RAM and of course the cpu. (Refer to build specs below) Do you think it's worth spending the money to upgrade from an i7-4790K to the 9700K... I know obviously it is a better cpu but is it worth the money I am gonna have to spend to switch from LGA 1150 to the 1151 Socket? Like is DDR4 really that much better than DDR3? I have a pretty beefy PC already and play everything with no issues but I do feel like my cpu is a bottleneck in certain games. Maybe it's just me though lol Thanks in advance. PC SPECS: CPU: i7-4790K OC 4.4Ghz GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 1080Ti Gaming X Trio RAM: DDR3 HyperX 1866Mhz 24GB Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait Edition Monitor: 27 Inch MSI Optix MPG27CQ 2560x1440p

I pulled a Linus and dropped my 8086k in my socket. When bending back L-29 (VCC or Power Supply) the pin broke off. Anyone experience this? From what I have read it will hurt my overclocking “maybe” but should be fine over all. Not wanting to risk an 8086K I already ordered a new motherboard but at this point I am just interested in learning more about how the socket works and If it might still be ok.

I built a Plex server a couple years ago from my old gaming PC's internals (only one x16 slot) and I need to add a second HBA for another 16 drives, but all the MBs I'm finding with 2 x16 slots will only operate in x8/x4 mode when both are populated (each HBA needs 8 lanes). Someone at r/datahoarder did direct me to a workstation board that will work, the Supermicro X11SAT, but it's like $300 minimum on eBay. I was finding plenty of used 7th gen boards for around $50, though like I said none with the x8/x8 support I need, I just need to know which model # to search for. I'm really hoping to just find a gaming MB that will suit my needs since I don't need ECC support anyway (though yes I know I should for my current use case but I'm trying to save money). Actually it can be gaming or workstation, as long as I can find it relatively cheap used or new. Would really appreciate any help.

What is a good compatible AIO that will mount with this board. PLEASE don't say "any LGA 115x compatible cooler" because.. been here doesn't always work. Tried H60 by Corsair, backplate mount didn't match with the holes in the motherboard. Other people were reporting the same issue with the H60. Looked up NZXT but.. omg...load of pump issues along with ratty CAM software. Does anyone have this board? if yes, what do you use? I am open to air or watercooled. The board has high-rising heatsinks. Image of Motherboard + Heat Sinks

Hello, I recently found that the motherboard I was planning to purchase for my build only had 12v RGB Headers, but a large number of other parts I am purchasing require 5v. Does anyone know any good LGA 1151 motherboards that has 5v headers without going over 150$

Hello guys, I need your help to tell me on this one PLZ !! (sorry if I do some english mistakes) I am about to buy a i7 8700k and I want to overclock it at the maximum as It could go, but I will probably get into baking temperature. (This topic is not about cooler, but cpu custom IHS relative information and warning) Okay, I don't mind killing up the warranty on my CPU to get the little extra performance out of it, so I was looking out for some method to make it cooler and I found something really interesting, a custom copper IHS from RockItCool and it seem to drop about 3-7 degree in average. The thing is I ran into some review telling that this IHS is slightly bigger than the original one and may be too big for some lock mechanism of motherboard. All the review/video that I looked at were using ASUS motherboard and I'm planing to get a MSI Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON AC LGA 1151 (300 Series) and I want to know if it will fit in this motherboard. If it does fit in this motherboard it bring me an other question, while searching some information about LM between the die and this IHS I ran into an other review telling that it does affect the system stability over time because of some weird electrical shit going on and I want to know if it's true or not. Plz give me some information about this IHS and if it's a good idea LM between the die and this particular IHS from RockItCool and if yes at which frequency should I apply new LM or whatever ?

Hey guys just double checking for a friend: Is a kit of Kingston HyperFuryX 16gb (2x8gb) 2666 compatible with the ROG STRIX Z370-E mobo? reason i ask is because i remember back when DDR4 was first introduced, there was alot of compatibility issues with different motherboards and this particular motherboard doesn't appear to show this kit of ram on the QVL so im sorta lookin for first hand experience if anyone knows. Cheers guys.
