Hi guys. I have bought hardware for 2 storage servers, which i was trying to set up right now, but i simply cant get the systems to boot. Both have a nearly identical setup: - Xeon Silver 4314 CPU - 4x 32 GB Kingston Server Premier DDR4 - a Network Card - an HBA-Card - 2 Sata SSDs connected over Sata - 4 Drives connected to the HBA only difference are the mainboards: One is running a Gigabyte mu72-su0 and the other one is an AsRock c621a ws As i said none of them boot. They are giving me a graphis out but i cant get to the BIOS. The gigabyte is stuck at Mermory Initalization adn the whatever memory channel is populated (i tried all slots, only one stick, single 2666 non-ecc stick...) The As Rock is giving me Code E8 (or EB) on the Display of the board and on the screen only a simple 31 in the bottom right corner. I think i could messed up something with the RAM but what...? Every bit of help would ba appreciated, i am really depending on your help guys! Best greetings JD

Hello I recently upgraded my HP Z400 Workstation to an Intel Xeon X5675 cpu. The motherboard is locked, but I thought that since my CPU multiplier is unlocked, I can overclock a little using software. I tested Throttlestop and an older version of Intel XTU, Both of them did not allow me to make any changes. So, Can I software overclock at all?

Intel® Xeon® W2175 vs Intel® Core™ i7 8700K
Jones Guldberg posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I currently have two computers. I looked at Ebay for a new cpu for my 2nd pc. I found a Intel® Xeon® W2175 14 cores / 28 threads 2.5GHz - 4.3GHz for 320 dollars ( 2063DKK ) I cant find any benchmarks on the internet and I was wondering if the Xeon is better than my i7 8700k. I think the xeon is matching with a i9 7940x but im not sure. The uprade is mostly for fun but im considering giving my 2nd pc to my 13 y/o little brother. He games alot of CS:GO, GTA 5, FiveM and Fornite. Is the Xeon good for gaming? Is it well optimized? Will it be a good upgrade? I think 320 dollars is cheap for a Cpu like that, especially in Denmark. Hello everyone I come in a time of great need recently my motherboard died and me and my dad where looking for a new one. We wanted to keep my current cpu (details below) since its pretty solid and we also wanted some room for future expanding. We found the Asrock z390 pro/extreme 4 a good option. We found 2 people who sell the board, a shop owner and a second-hand seller. After asking them about the board they both said that my current cpu wouldn't work. We found that strange because acording to our sources the cpu would work with the board. (wikipedia and intel) We don't know if we are right or wrong so I would like to ask for help on this issue. All the advice will be greatly appreciated! cpu info: Intel Xeon E-2124 Coffee lake, fitting: intel LGA 1151 Our sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1151 and Intel, but I couldn't find the exact website we used.

server Server Configuration for multi-Purpose use
noahkallur posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
I'm thinking of building an own server for multi purpose, including NAS, Media Center, Web-Hosting (mostly for accessing the NAS Files on the Go) and Git-Hosting. The Storage Capacity for the NAS would be between 40 and 60TB in usable Storage. I plan to go with 32GB of RAM, with the intention to upgrade later. At the moment I'm a bit uncertain, for wich CPU I should go. I consider three Options: 1: AMD EPYC 16-CORE 7281 2: AMD Epyc 8-CORE 7232P or 7252 3: 2x 4 or 6 Core XEON What would you suggest me? Greetings Noah- 5 replies

Today I'm embarking on a build with the first of hopefully future servers I would like to play with starting with the HPE DL380p Gen8 an early 2010's system built around the LGA2011-0 server platform featuring the C602 chipset. Getting a quick look around the system starting at the front left to right we have VGA a slim optical drive Eight 2.5" drive bays. Unfortunately this server did not come with any usable sleds. LED indicator panel for debugging USB System information tab Power button USB Front UID which pairs with the rear UID Right behind that we have a wall of six hot swappable fans. These things are no slouches. Each fan can put out up to 39.6W for a total of 237.6 watts of just fans. Unreal. Moving farther back gives us a view of the CPU/RAM arrangement. Two sockets, 12 DIMM slots per socket, 3 DIMMs per channel. The plastic guard acts as a air flow guide to direct the air more accurately to where it needs to go. In the back we have two three slot PCI_e risers. One per socket. We'll take a closer look at the slotted cards on the right in a little while. In the very rear we can see all of our I/O A small allen key for system servicing Quad Gigabit NIC Serial port Our iLO Management Port. This will become very important later VGA Quad USB Rear UID which pairs with the front UID Two mini-redundant 750W PSU's. I will be looking at those closer in a bit. Right now the CPU's have arrived so I can start by installing those but we are waiting on the RAM so I think I'd rather do the two at once. The mechanisms designed which hold everything together are a marvel in themselves so I can't wait to dig into this farther.

What games can I play on an old cpu + is more vram good ?
BrayanOfficiel posted a topic in PC Gaming
Hello, so I recently got a 15 y/o Mac Pro workstation with : 2 * Intel Xeon X5472@3.0GHz - 8 cores, Upgraded RAM to 32GB@0.7GHz (Server FB-DIMM with ECC), Installed a GTX 780 3Gb, Installed a Samsung 870 QVO SSD. I played a few games (1920x1200@60fps capped) on it like War Thunder (medium-high@60fps), Borderlands 2 (ultra@40-60fps) and I was happy with it, but I tried simulation games like DCS World (low-15fps), (CPU@10-30% usage, pretty low GPU usage and full VRAM usage) X-Plane 11 (shitty@10fps) (CPU@10-20% usage, GPU@40% and full VRAM usage) or GPU intensive games like Ready Or Not (ultra@30fps or shitty@45fps), Dying Light (ultra@40-60fps) (2.5GB VRAM USED, CPU@85%-97%) So I wonder if for example upgrading to a GTX Titan or Titan Black with 6GB of VRAM will be beneficial (because I see other people benchmarks :Apple MacPro3,1) ? Or the CPU will bottleneck it ? And if so, what games can I play with these 2 CPU'S ? Here is my benchmark Apple MacPro3,1 Performance Results. I know userbenchmark is not a reference , but i share this just so you can know more about this pc and see how it performs. (don't mind poor ssd performance, idk why its limited to SATA2 while the Mac has SATA3) Thanks by advance, Brayan PS: YES, A DUAL (old) CPU makes a difference in gaming, I was running Windows Home which is limited to only use one CPU and it was running Dying Light@15-25fps with 100% usage !!!- 20 replies

Hello, I have an Intel Xeon 1231-v3 on a Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3 board. The CPU has an boost clock of 3.8 (2 cores), 3.7 (3 cores), 3.6 (4 cores) GHz but it's adjustable inside the BIOS (version F8), so I tryed 3,8 on all 4 cores because I have a good cooler. All cores are boosting to 3.8 GHz on startup but going back to idle 800 MHz after a short while. However, during Cinebench they're stuck at 2.8, a whole GHz lower. Going back into my BIOS I increased the power limit but even during mixed load it gives me the same speeds. What am I doing wrong?

Hey, guys! So, I built my second computer about a year or two ago and have recently been experiencing thermal bottlenecking. I am unsure if this is my CPU cooler, Motherboard, Power Supply or CPU. I max out at 1.4 GHz which is 2.0 GHz less than its standard speed. Please help? CPU: Intel Xeon E3 v3 1231 LGA 1150 Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H CPU Cooler: Standard Intel Cooler Power Supply: 700W Thermaltake GPU: R9 280X Thanks for the help!

Good Afternoon and Happy Monday Pt. 2! I just bought a server (refurbished) from ebay. I've tested it and it works. I have decided to get MOAR CORES, but know f**k all about server parts. This is what I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-PowerEdge-R610-Server-2x-2-66GHz-E5640-8-Cores-24GB-PERC6i-2x-1TB/191545700823?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 This is what I would like to replace the cpu's with: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-W3670-SLBVE-6-Core-3-2GHz-LGA-1366-Processor-CPU-matching-pair/333274071144?hash=item4d98aec068%3Ag%3A%7ECEAAOSwwZtdNhEp&LH_BIN=1 I've looked through Intel's ARK Database and they show the same CPU socket, but I am curious before I buy them if there are any unseen compatibility issues I may not know about. Thanks in advance!

Over the next couple of days I'm going to be building my next server and I thought anybody who has a similar interest might like to come along for the ride. (The pictures are 4208x3120 so you can view them in a new tab for a larger image) There is so much equipment I found it difficult to get it all in one shot. Here is a run down of the core components: CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5 2698 V3 Motherboard: Supermicro X10DRi-T RAM: 2x NEMIX 64GB 2400MHz ECC RDIMM PSU: Athena Power AP-RRP4ATX6808 HBA: 3x LSI 9201-16i (live product page N/A) 5.25" drives: Athena Power BP-SAC1425AVL12 Chassis: iStarUSA D-410 CPU Cooler: 2x Noctua NH-D9L The remaining small pieces I will go over as I build but this is an immediate run down of the bulk of the system. Everything except the processors were purchased new. I have actually not verified that that CPUs work properly. I'm going off the sellers word so we will get to find out together if it's going to POST at all. For right now I'm going to start by installing the 5.25" drive caddies.

Hello, I just wanted to know that. I've seen this processor for 122 dollars on a online shop and I think thats crazy for a 8 core 16 threads processor but, its there a better alternative to this processor for gaming in terms of price/performance? I think this is the most crazy powerful CPU in can get for this price but I want to see an opinion of someone that really knows abut this, thank you in advance! (sorry for the bad english)

i have a potentially very bad problem.. especially how i am on an EXTREMELY limited budget and had to literally sacrifice eating good this month in order to get this computer up and running to a level i am proud of.. i have absolutely no idea whats going on or why its doing this, or if its normal, or if my computer is gonna crash any second... long story short, core 3 on my second cpu is usually around 50 degrees hotter than any other core on either cpu.. core 3 on cpu 0 is normal and within a single digit difference of cores 1,2,4.. ONLY cpu 1, core 3 is doing this.. ive read around and some people say its normal, but i dont believe that to be the case.. High temps are very bad for any electronic. and maybe a difference in temperature <10 degrees f could be normal... but definitely not 50.... i have gamed on max graphics for 12+ straight hours on this computer and it didnt so much as break a sweat, but im worried that the high temps is gonna significantly lower the lifespan of that cpu.. and i did already have one random crash.. i ran avasts cleanup where it deletes broken registry items and all that, then i defragged and did a disk cleanup, and restarted, and on the logon screen it gave me a split second bsod and restarted itself twice.. and it has not done it before or since.. im hoping that was just software related. i doubt that had anything to do with the cpu.. anyone ever seen this before? win10 pro Dual quad core Xeon X5450 cpu's 3ghz 32gb ecc ram idk what other info youd need to know to give it a guess, but whatever you need, just ask and ill provide.. im not all that computer illiterate, ive built a million pc's in my day and have been fairly heavy into windows based computer related stuff for decades (im 32 Y/O) but im definitely not God of all computer knowledge, and whatever is going on is clearly out of my knowledge base.. any help would be greatly appreciated..

Intel's 14nm processes are suffering from supply shortages, affecting both Consumer and Enterprise markets across their 14nm SKUs. On the consumer side, this is affecting pricing of Intel's 8000 series CPUs, and may even affect the upcoming Intel 9000 series release Interestingly, HPE has published a partner update (which appears to have been published publicly) mentioning their ongoing supply issues with Intel's 14nm Xeons that have been impacting availability across some SKUs. Part of this update includes recommendations on alternative models that feature the AMD epyc line of processors as an alternative to the Intel Xeon lineup I'm quite surprised that Intel would have issues such as this on a released product? We aren't talking about the market requesting new 10nm, which Intel have already outlined is delayed. With that being said, there's discussions that this is related to changes in the 10nm production timeline, which is impacting 14nm production It seems like Intel is dropping the ball on this, with AMD more than happy to pick up the slack. With this + AMD are already testing their 7nm Epic chips (to be released in Q1'19), together with the recent drama surrounding performance drops across Intel microcode updates (ie: Spectre et al.), could this be a turning point in the enterprise space? i have a dell precision t5400 that i did a lot of upgrading to.. i am looking for a motherboard that will accept dual xeon x5450 cpu's, 32gb of quad channel ecc drr2, and will fit in a regular case.. this motherboard i have now, the heatsinks mount THROUGH the motherboard, onto the mobo tray.. they do NOT mount ON the motherboard like every other pc ive literally EVER had.. which makes it impossible for me to find another case i like, or to find active cooling heatsinks.. i want liquid cooling preferable.. nothing i want is capable of mounting to this config, and this config is incapable of going into any other case.. extremely irritating.. any ideas?

Since gaming in a Xeon using MS OS, What would it be like to game on a Xeon running Linux OS and gaming via VM ? Little bit of a long approach but limiting cores into VM and trying running VM in it or since Linux and Wendell proved that gaming on Linux is better these days, I don't why what this wouldn't work. Now asking for a long shot favour. Since I don't have a Xeon to test this theory, could someone with Intel Xeon processor could test it if they can?? P.S. sorry if it posted this in a wrong place, @Moderator please move it to the right category

To summarize this, I am going to get: 3 GTX Geforce 690's 2 GTX Geforce 1050 ti low profile cards 3 thunderbolt 3 PCI-E cards 1 server 10gbe sfp+ PCI-E card 9 cards total, and only one PCI-E x16 slot. and one of the XEON CPU's that I looked up has 40 lanes (either that or it was a typo on the seller's part or Intel's part.) Why? Because I am going to run 5 operating systems on one machine.
