Hey there, I'm getting ready for Cyberpunk 2077 I've already upgraded my GPU from a 970 to a used 1070 and I'm thinking about doing the same for my CPU. I've also got 8GB of DDR3 ram, and I kind of don't want to buy two whole new sticks to extend the life span of my CPU so I'm just thinking about upgrading my whole rig The problem is that I'm on a budget, I've got two CPU's on my mind the I5-9400F and the i5-10400F they are both under 200€ the I5-9400F costs around 135 euros and the 10400F around 150, and with a new motherboard and DDR4 ram I think my budget will be fine. Would any of those 2 be considered an upgrade? I know I have an upgradable path to a I7 later down the years, but would any of those be worth the money spent we are talking about 250 euros total (I've already got a GPU and a PSU) So should I wait for newer budget Intel CPU's maybe DDR5 or should I make the jump? (I'm doing some video editing and photoshop as a hobby, but nothing much I've been okay with my i7-3770) NOTE: I see AMD's offerings, I was considering a AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or 3600 but I've heard that they are both not a great upgrade path, the 3600 might be but it's price spiked up recently on my country (around 210 euros) so even though AM4 motherboards tend to be cheaper I'm sadly not that impressed 2ND Note: I kind of also want to upgrade because my SSD is not reaching it's potential my motherboard supports SATA 3, 3gbs instead of 6 and I'll probably buy a Motherboard with a M.2 drive I found two videos comparing the CPU's Thank you in advance! Hey there I'll try to keep this question short, I'm planning to upgrade my PC however I'm conflicted into two paths, and I don't know which to choose I've got an old case with usb 2.0 ports which I kind off want to replace at some point The game I'm looking forward to play is Cyberpunk 2077 and I'd like to have a smooth experience at 1080p 75hz with high-medium settings, I finished RDR2 with my current build but I had to search through websites and reddit forums so I could have a decent experience while also making the game look acceptable even though the game was optimized poorly but you get the point. Also I want to get into VR at some point later in the future and try out Half Life Alyx and Boneworks I've found a 1070 at ebay at around 210€ (plus shipping) which seems like a decent deal to me and an upgrade from my 970 However I also thought about building a new PC from scratch while keeping my GPU and PSU, I know that the newest Ryzen CPU's will launch in a few days but sadly it's off my budget right now and while budget GPU's (1660, 1660super and ti) right now don't impress me either, I think the used 1070 is a good deal but I might be wrong for now many games still require the i7-3770 as their recommended CPU with some exceptions (for example I see the 4790k used a lot) Thank you in advance! New Parts i'm looking for: CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Mobo:Gigabyte Aorus B450 M RAM:16GB RAM Case:Aerocool Cylon Black and a random M.2 NVME drive (all around they cost like 350€) PC Parts I have: CPU: I7-3770 (non k) GPU:GTX 970 RAM:8GB mobo:asus p8h61-m lx3 plus r2.0 PSU:Corsair VS550 (not the best psu around, but it's good for now however I'm thinking of replacing it) Storage: 2 HDD's 1 boot SSD Budget (including currency): 440€ Country: Greece Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Cyberpunk 2077, VR, slight editing on the side with Premiere/Vegas as a hobby and some photoshop

Hello people. I have the following situation i would like some advice to. My PC is a I7-3770 with a GTX 1650 4GB OC and 16GB DDR3 RAM. It is using a old MOBO from HP, its the HP 3396 found in the Elite 8300 CMT, the big case. Now i was wondering, as i am using a 300 Watt PSU, is it possible to get myself a GTX 1660 Super and get myself a new 600PSU to use more of my CPU power? My GPU is running at 99% on the most games and my CPU is chilling at 60-80%. I wanna max my power, and lets be fair the GTX1650 is just nonsense as a card. And will my MOBO affect the PSU i am going to get? i know i should get an ATX PSU when using an ATX MOBO but can ANY MOBO handle all kinds of power supply? Like 300-400-800 wattage ? And my final questions, can my MOBO handle the GTX1660 Super as long as it will fit in the slot and providing it with the correct PSU? And is there a way to detect if i have an ATX psu in Windows itself? I will upgrade the MOBO aswell as some point, its kinda of a project but i dont have alot of money to burn at once. So i wanna first maximize what i can before i buy the new MOBO and case. I7-3770 with the GTX 1660 Super : https://www.gpucheck.com/nl-eur/gpu/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-super/intel-core-i7-3770-3-40ghz/ Kind regards! Tom

I have recently gotten a 1660ti and paired it with a I7 3770 (non K). I have so far only tried it on roblox (thought process was that it's a light, crappy game that this thing could annihilate) but so far, Im yet to see any 'annihilating' going on. It's peformace so far has been very average and under whelming. It's been sat at 30-60ish percent usage most of the time i've used it today and sometimes seems to struggle. Im aware that the CPU is a slight bottle neck but this is roblox for crying out loud! 3770 bechmarks on YouTube paired with regular 1660's are getting 120odd fps on Fortnite and other games similar yet im sturggling to get that in some roblox games. In conclusion, I just want to know any tips that could possible semi-resolve the issue at least. I got the card second hand is in amazing condition. The card booted up first time, no issues, and seems great minus the slight lack performance and it only showing up as a 1660 after installing drivers for it, (showed up as a 'Default Microsoft Display Adapter' to being with). Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

My Friend needs a new CPU Cooler he has an i7-3770, intel arc says that this CPU uses the FCLGA1155 Socket. I was looking at the "be quiet! Pure Rock Slim 2" CPU cooler, the cooler is only compatible with "LGA 1155" Socket. Will it still work? Your sincerely Mathis

Morning all, I had questions about RAID and redundancy. Sorry if this has been asked before. First off, setup: I7-3770, P8Z77-V LK Asus Motherboard, 8GB DDR3, GTX 1660 Super, 3x8TB Seagate drives(not NAS rated) 1x5TB Seagate Drive, 240GB Kingston SSD. Use of setup: Only running Plex and a file server-DNLA(in case i want to transfer uncompressed movie/show files to phone, I do this often). 1x8TB holds all my media. 1x8TB is blank, 1x8TB is an external drive that I backup manually with my media drive( would love to automate this). 1x5Tb is used for downloading media and converting if necessary so i do not bottleneck/wear out media drive needlessly. SSD is for OS(WIN 10 PRO) Plex Metadata is also saved on this. Want: In the end of all this i would like to have a Raid 1 or something similar to automatically backup my media drive( I would like Raid 1 just for the speed benefits of downloading media off of it more quickly). As well as having my current 8TB external drive backup automatically( I do not want Seagates tiered backup file system, I just want the current file backed up to look exactly like my Media drive.) Question: I have heard and seen on this forum that a lot of people tend to steer away from RAID due to issues with motherboard compatibility and or errors that cause the drive to be useless. What is your guys thoughts? I am just tired of manually backup up drives. I am currently trying to use Software Mirror via Disk MGMT and it is currently at 45% Resyncing the 2x8TB drive (they were freshly formatted before mirror started). Is this the best option for what I have? A lot of people i have seen steered away from motherboard RAID, just because if the motherboard died you might be in deep shit. P:S: If i had all my ducks in a row, I would like to have 4x8TB (or bigger ) 2 sets of raid 1. One pair for Movies and the second pair with TV shows.

Last Wednesday I was thinking that I may need to add extra storage to my Dell Precision T1650 workstation (Don't ask me why it's such an old rig, I found it near a litter bin in a Best Buy last year). The motherboard only has 4 SATA ports. The manual and specifications are here: https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dell_precision_workstation/precision-t1650_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf However, there's a PCI-E x16 (wired as x4) (should be 2.0) channel left, so I bought a PCI-E x1 to SATA 3.0x4 converter to connect more disks. To begin with, I would introduce my current setup so that you can get some clues: Motherboard chipset: Intel C216 Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 (with no K) Memory: 4x DDR3 PC3-12800E 8GB Pure ECC memory (the label says it's PC3-12800U, but I found it actually ECC supported in memtest86+...) (an extra word, according to the manual, the chipset only supports 32GB with ECC, and 16GB Non-ECC. so these sticks have to be ECC supported to actually run on the board...) GPU: Zotac Nvidia 1060 6GB Storage: before installing the converter, 1x 2TB + 1x 3TB HDDs, 1x 256GB SSD (with both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 19.10 installed). Fourth SATA is for the CD/DVD drive. Power: Seasonic S12-III 500W Bronze The adapter is this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SZDK6CZ/ It was Wednesday night and I tried to make things work. And here's what happened in a strange manner: 0. I installed the converter and connected a disk to it. I firstly booted to Ubuntu and found no problems in the first 3 minutes. 1. Then I booted to Windows to see if there was any problems and went into a BSOD after running into the desktop. 2. I looked up the website and found that the converter was in ACHI mode but the booting disks were mistakenly set in RAID mode. Changed it in the BIOS. 3. Restarted to Windows and went to Safe mode (to make the disk loading modes reset to ACHI). 4. Restarted to Windows normally. The converter and the disk is shown properly in the BIOS and the system. 3 minutes after booting Windows went into a BSOD, this time with another error code. 5. Restarted to Windows Safe mode and checked that the disks were already loaded in ACHI mode. 6. Restarted back to Windows normally, successfully visited the disk appended to the adapter. 3 minutes after booting the BSOD came again, now yet another error code. 7. This made me think that maybe some mishandling of mine has made some memory sticks to crash. I booted to Ubuntu, tried pressurizing the momory, and it hung after 7 minutes. 8. I think there were definitely problems in the memory. I ran the memtest86+ in the computer and found errors in 6400~MB and 23000~MB. 9. I removed the first and third memory sticks (thinking they might be broken) and booted back into both systems. They worked well and posted no problems. Today I decided to do some extra experiments to see whether it is the memory issue or not. And something even more strange happened... 0. The converter and two 8GB memory sticks worked well for two consecutive days. I closed the computer and added the sticks back. 1. I booted the system up to the memtest86+ and found the memory errors to be persistent at the same aforementioned address. (Notice that the memory stick in Slot 1 should be the one that I marked "working" in the previous test). 2. I removed all memory sticks and moved the two "broken" memory sticks to Slots 1 and 2. Booted up, memtest86+ showed no errors. (So the memory sticks are actually working. But I am going to change them anyway, I have bought a new set of four 8GB RAMs.) Then I started the computer to Windows and did a filecopy through the adapter. Things are working as usual. 3. I added a "working" memory disk to Slot 3. Booted up, memtest86+ showed errors at the exact 6400~MB address. 4. I began to think if the motherboard has caught problems. I called a friend and talked about the issue. In the meantime I removed the three sticks and changed with the computer's previous 4x4GB DDR3 PC3-12800U sticks. Booted it up, it passed tests of the diagnostics on board. 5. The friend searched through technical sheets and thought there should be no interference between memory slots and PCI-E ones, but advised me to remove that adapter anyway. I removed the adapter and installed all four 8GB memory sticks. 6. I conducted a memtest86+ test, only to find the errors recurring at the same address. I thought it was doomed. 7. I bet with the friend that the machine would definitely fall to a BSOD if we boot into Windows. I did that, opened a game that occupied 4GB, and successfully exited it to the desktop, no problems. 8. Then I booted to Ubuntu with the 32GB memory and all things resumed to normal as if nothing happened to the machine. A conclusion to the bizzare adventure: 16GB RAM + adapter = works; 32GB RAM + no adapter = works; 32GB RAM + adapter = BSOD/hang. Any clues on this? P.S. I looked through the Intel website, and it said i7-3770 doesn't accept ECC memory. So how come I ran this little workstation for nearly two months in a row without any problems?

Hi, When I use the picture goes black and comes back on. I do have a high speed HDMI cable that is HDR certified. Wondering if the old I7-3770 has something to do with it.

Hi, I had a K55 RGB keyboard, and a Harpoon RGB Mouse hooked to my PC. I like the keyboard and mouse but I hate the Corsair I Cue software. I can't believe that I need that to turn off the light on the mouse. Also it's another to start at startup. Not that that matters. At least with my old K70 I have Cherry MX blues, and my old M65 Mouse well it's worn, but doesn't feel cheap AF. I also have Logitech K400 and M325 as wireless options. The PC is in my bedroom. I Cue is a slow starter. It takes a minute to start, Steam and GOG start much faster and before Icue. Anything else is faster. Did I make the right move?

It's my first time posting in Linus Tech Tips forum. I had this account for a while, but this is my first time posting something so I'm sorry for any mistakes I make. Anyways my old ASRock B75M-GL R2.0 motherboard still refuses to die and I like pushing stuff to it's limits. After fast googling I found out that I7-3770 is a bit more powerful than my current xeon. Is there any sense in upgrading to the i7? I have a RTX 2060 and 16GB of DDR3 1600 RAM in this box of junk. The idea is to squeeze every little bit of performance my current motherboard allows. i7-3770k run through my mind at one point, but even if I manage to overclock it, the motherboard will just die I think, because it's half dead and some of the USB ports aren't working etc.

i7-3770 i7-3770 overheating and not slowing down in idle
Guest posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I have an i7-3770 with a single fan radiator. It sits at 4,92 GHz in idle and doesn't slow down. it exceeded 100C yesterday while under a stress test. What can I do except re-applying thermal paste and What can I do about sitting at max speed at idle? a BIOS update? -
Let me preface this with this: I purchased a prebuilt computer in 2011. An... Asus... Something. CM6330, I believe? Still has the base MoBo and RAM, but a new HDD and GPU I've been basically Dr. Frankensteining the computer ever since then, hard drive to expand space and gpu to help me run games. and... I appear to be at a crossroads. I have a GTX 970, and an i7-3770 CPU, with 8 GB of ram. I've realized that with quite a few games (primarily the borderlands games and newer call of duty games) that my graphics drivers have been constantly crashing, I'd say, once every... 30 minutes or so, of gameplay. My thoughts are that, it isn't just a faulty driver, instead, it's a faulty graphics card, seeing as though my previous two cards, a GT 650, and a GTX 770, have never had this crashing issue. Anyways, I intend to switch from the 970 to a 1070, in the hopes that it will stop the crashing, or at least decrease the amount of crashes I experience. Is this the case, or will I really need to break down and replace literally all my parts just to be able to handle a new card? I really do know nothing about hardware, and I probably will keep it that way. I just want to know what's causing the crashes. Is it a driver, is it a physical thing... The issue only seems to occur when I'm playing certain games, so it's most likely software, but... it might not be? Please help me?

Hey community, i want to build a pc so i started out with an incredible plan Used HP i7-3770 system with Quadro and 4GB RAM (4 ram slots and max frequency 1600MHz) also 1TB HDD for $354 Give em some lit HyperX Fury (4x2GB) DDR3-1866 for $67 Change that Quadro 2000 to a shiny XFX RX 570 4GB for $222 What do you think guys, here are some other information : 1. Where do i live Indonesia, where RX Cards are not that expensive but ram is very expensive (and not much PC enthusiast) 2. Reason why i made the decision I already have an old 2009 PC (LGA 775), i will try to sell it for $120 and buy a SeaSonic X650 3. Display? Samsung FHD Curved TV will connect it via HDMI 4. Usage Little corel draw Editing and 1080p 75Hz or higher hz gaming 5. Budget $700, but i already feel that this plan is excellent Thank you for passing by and comment!

Hi Guys, Looking for some insight on this if i could, as my own research has left me little confused. I have an old HP Business PC sitting at home with an i7-3770s cpu with a GT-430 & 8GB of RAM. i was looking to set this up as my dedicated stream PC via NDI, what i am hoping to achieve is a 720p60 possibly a 900p60 stream on the faster/fast preset at a 4500 bitrate. What do you think? is this viable? any thoughts are much appreciated. Many Thanks

I have my motherboard maxed with a I7-3770 and 16 GB 1333 MHz Memory. I also have a GTX 1050 Ti GPU. What would be the most GPU I could benefit from. Would GTX 1070 or GTX 1660 work without bottleneck?

I was playing GTA 5 and the CPU got hot and started to throttle after around 2 hours of play and the machine was running 60FPS till then. It's running on a HP Pro 3500 motherboard with a stock Intel cooler. This wasn't a problem before, because I was using a I3-3240. Now I have a throttle issue because the Core and threads are doubled. 4 Core and 8 threads generating more heat. That thing heats up fast with GTA 5. GTA 5 is dependant on the CPU, I know that. What is a good cooler for a Microtower HP PC? The cooler cant be too tall. Clearance is a issue. Picture of Pentium 4 D style case that I am using. The CPU hit 80 c on hottest core causing throttle. I am curious about answers on cooling, would a different case be something to consider. I have one with a NF 120mm modded into the front. That alone might help. Package at idle is around 45 c. Would Noctua low profile cooler work. the stock cooler right now ha a NF 8 on it right now. It is becoming audible, when it wasn't before. That I3 3240 is a good HT PC cooler because that didn't heat up that much. The fan hit 1128 when it got hot. Now at idle around 850 RPM. The fan would never break 1000 RPM with the I3-3240. It only has a 77 watt TDP, meaning I7-3770. I3 had a 35 watt TDP. It's awesome till it throttles.

Hi, I just bought a Noctua NH-L9x65 cooler fro Newegg. I need to know if it will mount to a HP 3500 Pro motherboard. I ha a I7-3770 installed on it and it get hot. Reaches 80c. My cooler uses 4 mounting screws to secure it. It does not use the plastic locking pins. The cooler come with screw in studs, will they work. The back plat doesn't appear to be interchangeable, meaning that the Noctua backplate won't work. Also I upgraded the 80mm fan to a 95 mm Noctua NF-A9 14. I think that the Noctua cooler will help if it will mount. I have modded the hell out of the HP Compaq d220MT case for airflow and backplate access which the ladder of the 2 seems pointless. Pictures are somewhat different from now. I had the modded case and switched things over to it.

Hello. I have an I7-3770 and need a new or used gaming motherboard for socket LGA 1155. I don't have any budget really but would rather have a black coloured motherboard to fit in with the rest of my setup, so far I am looking at the ASRock > Z68 Extreme3 Gen3. Please leave any questions below and I will attempt to answer them as quickly as possible. Thanks, Bullzy.

Hi On Sunday i noticed my GTA 5 game was only using 2 cores, Since i was streaming, everything was stuttering, even my browser and discord. It only happens when the game is in-focus, when not, it is fine. lol The only thing i can remember i changed in any settings just before it happened (or atleast noticed it happening) are the texture and shader quality (from very high to high) I have an i7-3770 and GTX1070 and my setup was doing great before this, out of focus: In focus: I already spend the whole sunday trying to fix this weird problem, I tried everything i found on google.. Anyone that can help? ty!!!

HI, My HP Pro would not boot today. Normally it does. It kept coming up with a weird network boot screen instead of booting Windows 10. Make sure it is disabled in the dumb HP BIOS. Can cause intermittent booting issues. After disabling Windows booted fine. Guess it can be used as a server.

I would like to watch standard 1080p Blu Rays on my LG 4k tv without having to change my desktop res. to 1920x1080 @ 60Hz from 4096x2160 @ 60Hz. The software works fine when I change the desktop res to 1920x1080, but not in 4k. When I try to play video from a blu ray I get a black or a green screen with audio. Does anyone know of a fix, or is the software just too old to support higher desktop res.. I don't think that 4k was a thing in 2012 through 2014 when software existed. Does a config file hack exist to add 4k standard support for blu ray disks? Is it a software or a hardware Issue not allow video to show with desktop res set to 4096x2160 @ 60Hz.
