  1. I have an Ironwolf 4tb in my regular home pc. I choose Ironwolf because it's said to have better reliability than the Barracuda drives. It's not an Ironwolf Pro, but a "regular" Ironwolf. I've read that it's primarly meant to put into a NAS with a RAID controller. Now I have stumbled across an old forum thread from Quora stating that harddrives made for NAS are lacking some built-in features that "regular" harddrives have when it comes to handle suspicious sectors. A regular harddrive would try to read the suspicious sector several times and if successfull reading it will relocate the data to a spare sector, then mark the suspicious sector as perhaps a bad sector or current pending sector. However a NAS harddrive would lack this feature and if it finds a suspicious sector it will directly mark it as bad and not try to retrieve any data there. For that you need the NAS drive in a RAID controller. Now I know how much weird and false info are circulating around the net. But I don't know enough about NAS drives if this is true, and I don't know if my Ironwolf 4tb (ST4000VN006-3CW104) is considired as a NAS drive or just a high-end regular harddrive. I did chat with Seagate's live agents support service but I didn't get a clear answer really... Can anyone of you give a correct answer? Here's the link on Quora (that gave me a hiccup), it's the post that someone named Kenneth Durham made. Can a NAS HDD be used in a desktop? Read description. - Quora A part of his postat Quora: "All of the major harddrive makers have responded by creating a series of drives that do not perform any sector reallocation internally. These drives do not have any type of data protection and recovery system built into them because they are explicitly intended to be used only with a RAID controller. That is the primary difference in what are sold as NAS harddrives. So, what happens if we connect a NAS harddrive to a desktop computer? Initially, it will work just fine. But, as the drive ages and naturally experiences read errors, it will not be able to recover the data at all. You will experience data corruption and data loss. This is unavoidable when you use a drive that has no mechanism to protect your data against expected read errors." For those recommending me to replace it with an SSD instead: Yes I will eventually, whenever I can afford it. The larger SSDs are still much more expensive than harddrives so I'll have to wait until I can. And yes I do make backups of my important stuff. I got my Ironwolf in october last year and so far no errors reported yet.
  2. So I want to build a new system since my old one is getting old. If i download steam again onto the new hard drive would i be able to download the games and keep all my data from the games from my old computer or would everything restart from level 1 lets say or will i just not be able to re download the games if the old hard drive isn't plugged in?
  3. Everytime I boot into windows two of my hard drives deinitialize. One of them has had a history of being messed up its a 1tb wd blue that just completely disappears from my pc when ever it would get within 100-50gb of being filled up and the other one is a 750gb wd blue I took from my old laptop that was working fine. they are both using the same power cable from my power supply and there is a third drive in that chain the comes before them that is working fine.
  4. I was putting my hard drives in my unraid server under 1 molex to sata extension and now even with different sata connectors, the hard drives won't spin. Is there a test I can do to see if the hard drives are still functioning? Is this an easy fix for a professional?
  5. I need some help, I currently run 3 drives in a 4 bay system which the 4th bay was used to run the OS drive, I have relocated that and would like to add a drive to the current raid 5 setup. Its a larger Hard drive, and I plan on migrating the smaller drives to the larger ones. is there a way I can do this so I can start swapping drives? or do I have to do some black magic forkery to get my data migrated over to another system, and just restart the raid building and set up for my Server OS? Its a dell poweredge R410 with a PERC h700 Adapter.
  6. Recently I upgraded my rig and took out two of my old hard drives from my previous build. I'm using the same nvme ssd as my boot drive, in addition, I have another nvme ssd on the board as well as two sata ssd's and of course my old two Hard drives. Initially I wasn't going to include my old hard drives so I just plugged in my sata ssd's and booted from my nvme ssd. From there my PC refused to find the new sata ssd's and had what seems like ghosts of the old hard drives burried somewhere in the boot ssd. Switching from the top two sata connections on my motherboard to the bottom two (ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS ATX) fixed the problem. So then I plugged in my old hard drives to the top two sata connections and the PC can't seem to find the again. I'm pretty sure the solution involves telling my boot ssd that those particular hard drives aren't still in the old rig and to git rid of the literal ghosts in the machine, I just don't know how to get there.
  7. The title says it all. Since 2017 I've tried in 2 different systems to power up drives larger than 8TB but had no success. 10TB drives and 12TB drives are the ones I tried with. There was also a 8TB Ironwolf that wasn't recognized too. I'm sure the motherboard handles 8TB because other 8TB are recognized. I couldn't find the max capacity for my motherboard's SATA ports. I tried with these two motherboards/systems: -Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 3 (LGA 1150) -MSI Tomahawk X299 (LGA 2066) Both with BIOS updated to the latest version. I would understand with the LGA 1150 since it's been 7 years but with the 2066 it's barely 3. I tried the following troubleshooting steps: -Switched ports -Change SATA cables (All SATA 3) The drives didn't get recognized even on the BIOS of the motherboards. Neither on Windows (yes I know how to set them up in device manager) The PSU was a Corsair RM750x I heard there was something to do with power and people used SATA to Molex but then I came up with something: I got a Syba PCI-E expansion slot that contains 4 SATA ports. It was 25€ (which is about 30$) and everything worked fine there. So I don't think it's the PSU...right? Since it's still powered to the PSU the only thing I changed was the SATA port from Mobo to the PCI-E controller. So I would like to know what exactly is the problem, thanks!
  8. I know the title probably really confused you but I could not think of the name, so a while back I upgrade my spinning rust storage from 1tb to 5tb by adding another 4tb hard drive. I used the built in tool for windows to make those 2 drive work together. anyways so no I have around 1tb of data (930GB to be exact) and every time I try to download/move something there. It says there is not enough space. even thought in the properties tab it says there is still 4tb left. Have I not been using the other hard drive this entire time?
  9. I'm in the process of making a new NAS/game server. The computer I'm using is a 2009 Mac Pro running the latest version of Windows Server. I don't know the specs exactly but it has 2 Intel Xeons, what I would guess is a GT 220 graphics card (I ripped it out of an old Windows XP gaming machine purely so I can get a display out and nothing more), and 16gb of memory. I don't have a problem with anything software related, but I'm having a major issue regarding hard drives. I've got 3 completely blank and reformatted used drives for a combined 4tb of just storage. Windows Server is installed on it's own SSD. With just that, the computer boots up fine, no issues there. The problem is only 1 of the 3 hard drives boots to Windows. The other 2 have a completely blank screen when installed. I've tried looking things up myself but my setup is so particular that I'm not finding the answers I need. Whenever I try going into Mac's startup utility, the screen stays blank even with no other additional drives installed. Something I noticed is the only drive that works is the oldest drive, 5 years older than the other 2. I don't know if that's got anything to do with it. When the computer boots up normally, of course it'll go the lock screen. If I then press the power button, the computer immediately shuts off. But then when I install one of the black screen drives, simply pressing the power button does nothing (or at least nothing noticeable). I have no idea what's going on or what I can do to fix this. If nobody here has an answer, then can I be pointed to another forum or somewhere with people that may know more? It's not imperative that I use THIS computer but it's the only one we have on deck that's good enough and I'm completely strapped for cash.
  10. Seagate Issues! This is about Seagate. And talk about their issues! Please don’t troll, don’t be toxic & don’t create drama. This is my own opinions & feelings & actions. That sadly happened to me. "You do not have to agree, but please don't be toxic!" And there might be somethings you may not agree on, or understand & what happened to me, might never ever happened to you. /But here [Try some empathy, here is a glass] It might not have affect you, but It did affect me, deeply. Please respect this, thank you. [Info I also have dyslexia & this is also my second language, so please be nice] Thank you, or don’t write at all honestly. “If you’re toxic, I will be toxic back, with the same medicine!” /Keep that in mind! And give Linus tech a lot of love, he is a great, great man. And the developers here on this great site. Thank you. This is a discussion about Seagate & the issues you yourself been having & me. My story & info to you, what also sadly happened to me. /Pretty sure you don’t care, but at least try to. To find out why this happen & why Seagate did nothing, to improve their faults & to provide a solution for the customer. /Has been peaking in my mind, deeply… Also, another topic’s: What hard drives do you believe is best? And Companies that involve with hard drives, like Samsung. Samsung is from South Korea. Almost all hard drives are created in China. And most big tech companies are in USA & even Taiwan. Please share this also, what you recommend. Yourself with HDD's hard drives & even SSD. Thank you. "If you're a troll being paid by Seagate, to attack me, please don't butter It won't offend me what so ever anyway, or change the facts what honestly did happen!" But please, leave this forum alone & topic alone, thank you. Let’s begin, about Seagate - HDD's… (Text may be changed & improved, it's not completely done) /Keep that in mind. “Add defect as defective, if you want, using defect as the short word for defective!” Right let's go! Text-Starting here: So, I have around 14 Seagate hard drives at home right now & probably had around 22-25 in my life time. Mostly all has been faulty & that’s almost all my Seagate hard drives I had, has been defect or broken or stopped working a few years later. I have tested mostly all different hard drives & companies. 1: Seagate top worst, had most defect/defective of all times. “Probably the company that has most defect hard drives in the world too!” 2: Western digital / WD: Had almost same issues as Seagate, but still way, way better in quality. 3: Toshiba: Slightly better than Seagate & WD: 4: Sony: Only had a few, but been lucky with zero issues. Then we have… 5: Maxtor: Always issues, created by Seagate. 6: LaCie: Also, always had issues with, created by Seagate. I am not sure why Seagate has so many defect products or issues. “Maybe you do!?” Then please share that, thank you. 7: Samsung, never ever had any issues with, hard drives I like the most. But they are also M.2 & SSD & not HDDs, so that kind of make sense. Seagate software photo crash & chat: Evidence-1 “I been trying to figure out, why Seagate would do this to me, but never ever found an answer!” I do not support or they them anymore & mostly only buy Samsung now… But the strangest part is when the Seagate hard drives, create weird noises that almost can’t be explained. · Seagate - Hacking sound. · Seagate - Scratching sound. · Seagate - Pounding sound. · Seagate – Sounds like it’s chopping wood sound…. · Lastly when the hard drives create or give zero sound & just randomly died. ü I had all these issues & sounds issues with Seagate. ü I also had countless defect, never ever been moving them, or on any areas created that the moved or moves at all, even had rubber & screw holding it at place & so on. ü “Still, I had all these weird issues!” ü So, no movements have damaged these hard drives I had in anyway, or any dents or anything that could damage them, by stupidity. ü "So, why do the still become defect?!" /Do you have an answer for this? Then please leave it in the comment, thank you. ü “Just so we are perfectly clear, make this crystal clear as cake!” ü You that read this topic & forum, none movements or damage has touched my hard drives ever. Anyway, after Seagate called me & I explained my problems. They made a bunch of lies, on phone on mail & claimed they can fix my hard drives. Again, a lie... I had a bunch of defect hard drives just laying around, even new ones & even to this day, the same. 1: I explained this to them, since mostly all my hard drives were defect, I don’t have enough space to transfer all my files. “They said they handle that!” “Ones again more lie!” But they sent me two new 8-TB hard drives & asked me to return my hold ones, that now also had corrupted & damage my files. Sent the files over that I could, the rest was completely damage. “Still have the same issues, with not having enough space!” So, they ask me to buy more $Seagate hard drives$ When I just had bought two 8tb hard drives & one 5tb. Not working correctly… . Then they lie again, make me sign contracts with things I did not agree on or with, after they sent the hard drives giving me a 30 days & forcing me with a time pressure, also explaining ones again, I don’t have enough space! "Kept explaining this over & over again to them, like I was talking to a stone wall!" I also said “I always want 2 back-ups!” but that’s not possible if all my Seagate hard drives are defect, I told them, this clearly being the issue. So, they forced me to send back my old hard drives & putted me on this weird pressure with a timer. “When I also explained I have files, you can’t have so this is not possible, they now forced me to (Erase my hard drives) with an unstable software. “The reason I recorded it on Streamlabs OBS & on my other hard drive, that auto erased itself later on!” 2: I ones again explain, I don’t have enough space to back up all my files & my hard drives are defect, since most aren’t work & I don’t even dare to connect them. “It was like I was talking to a wall, not even understanding English!” "And my English isn't either perfect, since it's not my main language, but I speak it better then I write it, because of my Dyslexia. They ones again lie to me, say that I can keep my old hard drives on phone, that was not true since the contract clearly says I cannot keep them. So, it was just a lie & even more lies to the lies never ended & even more lies… “Why do this to a customer!?” That's not what I get or understand here, they clearly damage their reputation here! 3: On mail after explain the insanely weird accident that should not have ever happened, with their software, that erase all my hard drives, with a [01010 code on the drives]. That automatically corrupted & damage all my files. And on my hard drive that was recording all this time, the same. The hard drive I also took photos on, when the software kept filing & not doing what it was supposed to do. Now this with taking pictures, after the crash only worked on the Windows hard-drive & all the other files recording was gone, on the other. “My back up also got corrupted & all the files was damage by the software, hard drives I did not even touch, even my logs say this clearly!” [On the softwares logs & info] I sent a whole bunch of evidence to Seagate, still not enough, they now wanted videos, on random accurses & other info on something that clearly already happen!! /Cleary making fun of me. I also sent does files over to my back up Plus Blue Seagate hard drive, all important files. “They were gone & erased or corrupted & damage, since when I connected the drive, the files didn’t work & the drive became empty!” Clearly a fault by the product or the software, right? After that the software had also, never ever even touched my Iron wolf or my Back Up Plus Blue hard drive, more than the auto scan. “This is not supposed to happen, even Seagate said so, making it a bit irony!” “Still, it did & they just keep lying to me, over & over again!” /But why is the big question, why keep lying to me, not fixing the issue? Both the hard drives said the files was damage & also got erased automatically. First my Iron Wolf, said files was damage & then they just vanished. Then my Back Up Plus Blue hard drive, that was not even connected at that time. But when I connected it because I panic losing my important files, it also showed the files, but when I try to click on them, nothing happens. Seems like the files got damage, by the software. So, then I reconnected it, thought it was a connect issue, since it asking for a restart & then boom, files were gone. This was the most random & strange thing in my life & I never thought the same about Seagate ever sense. Software automatically damaged my files & erased my hard drives I did not even touch. This Is what Seagate said… “About the case!” The Seagate mail & chat for months! Photos can be provided! Records on the phone calls, the same. (Kept on unconnected hard drives, for safety) Seagate-Page-1: for their purposes and data. I can suppose only that there is a compatibility issue with the equipment where the drives are used. Regarding the address where the drives should be shipped, it should be provided in order acknowledgment, which has been sent to your email address on 22 of June. If you didn't receive this email, I will resent it now and within 1 hour you will have order-acknowledgment with the warehouse address. Please let us know if the solution above meets all of your support needs. We look forward to your response. Seagate-Page-2: Thank you for providing the log files and the additional information. Indeed, it is really abnormal having so high fail rate but I can assure you that it is a super rare case and it is the first time that I have seen in my experience. But the is a fact that I cannot change but I totally understand your issue. According to your description since the value of your data is the most important, as I have stated in my previous emails we are willing to offer you data recover service for those drives. If you cannot send the drive to our Lab in Netherlands it is impossible for us to help in any other way to recover the data since the drive physically needs to be delivered and checked by our experts. As a secondary solution I would which I do understand will not help recovering the data but at least will give a satisfactory resolution, if we would agree to replace 2 drives that are out of warranty to have them replaced with brand new drives. Additionally, we would provide prepaid shipping labels so you do not encounter any shipping costs apart of customs that may apply. Please let me know if you agree with any of the suggested solutions above. Seagate-Page-3: This is really strange and unlikely to happen, but there is always some room for abnormal scenarios. In order, me to escalate this issue to our engineers to find out what is happening, I would kindly ask you if you could make a small video recording with the sound and upload it on YouTube, so our experts can have a loot at it. If there is possibility to connect it to a second PC and make the comparison of the sounds that would be very appreciated. The only thing I can guarantee, that we will replace the drive as many times as it will be required until we fully resolve the issue, since it is something in our power. I will be looking forward to receive video links in order to escalate the issue. (Me): Now I simply wonder if there are anybody else having these kinds of issues with Seagate!? “I would like you too, then share that info, thank you!” (Me-Other-Info) Make a video on something that is completely random & already happened is also a very strange request, by Seagate. Also, this case became so complex, it’s insane. “Just thinking about it makes me almost a bit mad, madder than I even am at the moment in the brain!” “Instead of fixing the issue, they just kept finding problems that did not exist or even happen!” They also refused to refund me anything, or do anything for the damage they caused & trust me I’m not the only one around the world, this is happening to by this tech company or companies. Also, the new hard drive they sent me, as a. “We're sorry!” “Was also, off course defect!” (Photo-South-Park) “That hard drive was defect!” Sexy Seagate Boss! It was off course completely defective. If that isn’t irony, I don’t know what is… It was chopping wood, inside & the sound was almost like a gnome chopping wood inside the little box, with an intense sound & then the sound completely just stopped & it died. Drive could not be found, anymore… A completely new hard drive they sent, or was it second hand?? Also, a question, I be wondering for a while now. They also said, when talking about my Iron Wolf’s [Recovery] that had mostly all my evidence & all my recordings on the process, when this did happen & that all my years of work & my all my games & videos/streaming & other important recordings, was gone & that they could not be recovered. “That’s very bad, that the recovery failed, since their software caused this issue!” “I told them, before I sent the hard drive in, that, that will not work!” “I did already try, I told them trust me, I did try to create a recovery & that I even had to buy a software & program for it, wasting a bunch of more money!” So, I already tired saying this clearly to them, did they listen? No off course they did not, still they wanted me to send in at least one hard drive, I sent in the Iron Wolf having the recordings & videos & extra evidence. Told them, if you can back that one up, it will prove what happened 100% on the videos & that this was Seagate’s fault & the software, I said this will proved, that the software damaged my files. “They could not recover it!” /OFC… This damage years of my work, since my back up was also empty & had a new volume & when I scanned that one & the Iron wolf hard drive with a back-up software, both was completely empty. This was only supposed to only happen to my two 8TB-hard-drives, nothing else I didn’t touch, that I was going to send back, not any other ones. “What did I learn one this!?” 1: Always disconnect all hard drive, when it’s around format, erase or unstable software’s. /Nothing new, really, but that’s when you also have enough space to record, on another hard drive that has no files, that are important… Anyway, nothing new to be safe the sorry, with pc items really. “Something I already knew, explaining that to Seagate, that if I don’t have enough space & can’t back up my files, because their hard drives are defect, it will be a problem to record this, when I do it & back up my files, if their products don’t work!” In this case, I had one connected with important files, recording the actions ones happening & I extended & sent these important files over to, to a back-up drive, after the software kept failing, with the recordings & other important files. “Something that should, by Seagate’s info never ever happen, that the software erased anything automatically” “No shit Seagate!” “That software magically also erased everything by itself, even the one I disconnected after all files was transferred, all does files was also damage & corrupted” Meaning the software probably damage the files, before, or that that new hard drive was also defect. Still payment for these issues would have been appreciated, instead they send me a new defect hard drive, honestly, it’s insane. What will that do, when they ruined big parts of my life, honestly!? 2: Never ever trust Seagate again or the products or software’s. 3: Never ever touch any hard drives or with tech or hard drives with important files, until I have at least 2 back-ups laying around. /Costly like hell, if you ask me. 4: Well info I already knew, nothing new really how unstable & wrong it can go with hard drives & erasing them or using their software’s or go into them by windows & so on. “Honestly nothing new, why I explained multi times to Seagate, I need more space, not just replace hard drives that are defect aren’t enough, when I have to send over files!” “I can’t send over, because the hard drives are for fudge’s sake defect!” Again, they ask me to buy a bunch of new hard drives, with money, not everybody got just laying around, when it’s around 51TB with files, on defect Seagate hard drives. On their completely defect hard drives, meaning I also lost around 21-25TB with files, they created, because their software did it not me. “It’s insane!” Anyway, the software erase everything connected without my windows Samsung hard drive. “Even the drives I did not touch, or honestly, I wanted to put them out on the software, of the system on the software, not even an option to do that without pulling out the cable on the hard drive!” Is by my opinions completely shit & a completely outdated software. So, the Seagate software is Insanely bad & an insanely unstable software, created by Seagate. This completely ruined my life. I had to leave my site, delete all social media & try to move on. I had to stop streaming & upload videos on YouTube. Since all my work had been erased & was gone, because of Seagate XD. All my videos all my work & years of work & back-ups & planning gone. All the videos I created as jokes & Elder scrolls online & other games around 24/25 videos gone. Whole setup gone. Banners gone. Pictures gone. Books gone. Everything gone… My whole life ruined, it felt like losing my own child almost, that’s how bad it made me feel & was for me. So, what Seagate does to say we’re sorry, is to send me a new defect hard drive & after that ignoring me completely saying we are nice people... “That’s Seagate for you & my complex story from me to you!” Giving you a Warning, to keep this in mind. Anyway, any else had these issues with Seagate? Or Seagate hard drives, not working correctly? Please leave this info. And if Seagate damage your life, or caused you insane issues? Please also leave that, thank you. And if their software damage or corrupt your files & hard drives? “If so, please share this info here also, thank you!” Or that their software (automatically) erases your hard drives… “That should never ever happen!” Please leave that info also. Really, thank you for all that info, if you do share this. Please leave this in the forum, all issues you had & what could have caused this. And how it damaged your important life. I appreciate any help & info I can get. Thank you… Since Seagate seems to completely ignore my case. Also ask for completely random request, like record an accident or prove it with a video on a completely random thing, as evidence on a random case. “This made me lose trust in them completely!” “A case that’s not even possible, when the things that are supposed to hold my files & evidence are the ones being the problem itself!” “I am not clearly sure what Seagate are thinking there!” /Maybe USA can answer that. “I did try to off course, record the new hard drive they sent, making the insane weird sound, that randomly happen for seconds, or even minutes, but when I did try that nothing happened, it didn’t even start correctly & made zero sound!” Meaning it probably completely died, since I can’t even connect it or find it anymore. So, if you have been having issues, like this as me with Seagate, please share this info. In this great forum & your info about your own weird chases… Not asking me silly questions please & not saying something like Seagate is great. “Maybe great, for someone that had luckily [Zero] issues with them, sure but for me no, not great!” Or stuff like, I never had issues with Seagate… “Yeah, this is not what this topic is about, so move on buddy!” Like my last forum, where people trolled me to death, just going completely bananas & out-topic to ruin it for me & giving me more annoying issues, aren’t ok & other toxic comments, aren’t either ok, & having these issues, with Seagate haven’t been fun trust me. People going completely out topic… /Aren’t okay, so please don’t do that, thank you. It Isn’t cool & also mean/cruel doing that. And if you, never did read the text or info… /Please don’t butter me or others! You’re the issue then, not me. This is about Seagate giving people real life issues & selling broken & defect parts. “Not about your cat, being cute!” And not stupid question like, did you drive with your hard drive in a car silly joke’s & troll question. That people did on my last forum, creating drama & created troll-jokes around it about the issue, this is serious & completely dumb question, just pisses me off. “Please be a good human begin & don’t do that, please!” Answer still are “NO why the hell would I do that? or anything, that makes a HDDs move or in any way make a HDDs moving or move, the HDDs at all!?” “Everybody know a HDDs can’t handle a push even, would you drop it, it would be completely break & damage!” When it has a round disk inside, everybody knows that a HDDs are insanely sensitive & insanely sensitive to movements & that could damage it very easy. That everybody knows, that is a pc person. “So, please don’t make these silly jokes, thank you!” BTW About Samsung: I done these erase-system with my Samsung hard drives & scans & their software, never ever had or gave me any issues… “But with Seagate it was chaos & that software should not even be accepted to exist or be shared with their customers!” “Honestly, that how bad it is!” It’s honestly completely unstable & not safe to use… “Just saying, bad choose by Seagate!” Never ever going to use a Seagate software ever again. Or buy their products… That’s just the truth in this case for me, at least. PS: I will never ever forget what Seagate have caused for me & these problems, nor Komplett.se not even when I’m in the grave, rutting away… “Just saying, that’s how much they damage for me & my life, a range that will never burn out!” “Not sure how high Seagate hard drives HDDs are but, when reading a lot info about them & the bad (%) & even some saying” That some off their hard drives have as high as 22-35% defectiveness that’s insanely high, if you ask me. But it also seen many of these sites, that I read on, seem to really dislike Seagate & also create a lot of fake info. “Not, very nice for people that seek info either!” And completely exaggerate with the [%] & info, I do get it enough, all the life’s Seagate has ruined. Probably made very many people angry at them. I even spoke with a lawyer from USA, saying that the case with Seagate by law suit, for selling defect items, got flagged red & that the case had to be putted down. The government was defending them, probably because it’s one of USA’s biggest companies selling these items all around the world, bringing in a lot of $money$. “I get it, still doesn’t change the fact, all these issues they cased people & it’s not cool, by my book!” Anyway… “If you agree, please share your info, your story & your evidence, thank you!” Anyway, by my side. It will never ever be a new Seagate hard drive, lading on my place ever again. Not even when my life ends, even in my grave & the one day I live in hell, I will probably be screaming at them with fury & range, refusing to ever touch their products again, for all the issues that company created & cashed for me, just like Komplett.se from Norway… Komplett.se did create a 5-year long issue/issues, for me, with defect items, a completely new defect PSU giving out wrong volt, not fixing the issue, for the past 5 years, or replacing it. Because me as the customer, wanted his pc to work… Komplett.se can also eat a big fat flompy cake… Anyway, that’s all… So, again leave your feedback. And thank you all for reading. “About my Seagate problems & Issues!” Thank you! Thank you all Love from me CSL. “I’m not perfect, either are you!” My Logo: MY CSL LOGO! CSL & OUT! LOGO: CSL & OUT!
  11. Summary A recent report from Trendfocus shows SSD sales continue to rise dramatically, while HDD manufacturers are noticing record-breaking declines in overall shipments. Analysts estimate that shipments declined by more than 40 percent compared to 2021. The drop at Seagate and WDC has been nearly half that of the industry average. Quotes My thoughts I think this trend will continue on in the future as SSDs become more affordable. As it stands, 500GB SSDs have reached price parity with 500GB HDDs. I don't see that it's too far off to believe that this spreads with higher GB SDDs in the future. Even M.2 NVMe solutions have become way more affordable, and they are supremely faster than SATA SSDs. You can get a 2TB Kingston PCIe 4.0 NVMe for around $100 today. While a well performing HDD like the Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Compute with 256MB Cache costs $50. For $50 more, going with the NVMe SSD, you get much, much faster speeds. Which makes more sense. I do see for NAS setups and for certain applications HDDs still have their value. However, I think if people can, in the future, go with an all SSD setup. They probably will. 12. So i have 2, 3tb sata iii drives Stripped/Raid 0 in windows check out this picture .. I thought sata iii limitation was 600MB/s.. I have ran this test on these exact drives before and gotten 150mbs writes , 250mbs reads
  13. Hello LTT Forum, I have 2 Mechanical Sata Hard drive's and I have no way to mount them in my computer so I am looking for a good external dock that will support 2 hdd's at once with usb 3.0 and external power. Thank you.
  14. So lately I've been having save errors on almost every game I have played, starting with Alien Isolation my saves were fine and had no trouble but I got to a point where the game would give me an error saying that there's an error with my save file, I tried restarting my pc and to no avail. Secondly I've been having the same issues with Forza Horizon 4, I would get a lot of errors when upgrading a car and saving things, most of the time they fail and I have to restart the app for it to work. Is there an issue with my hard drive or is it client based? please help as I do not want to start any new games and have them error out on me again.
  15. I live in a hot country, in summer temperatures reach up to 114 F (45C), and I just ordered the corsair air 740. Which to my understanding, the hard drives, ssd, and the power supply are at the back. I read on tomshardware that if they reach temperatures like 50-55C they will have a higher chance of failing sooner. That got me worried. Because at the back will be no airflow or fans at all. Should I be worried? Maybe I can just leave the hard drive freely at the bottom of the case next to one of the fans.
  16. Hello, I was just wondering if you could reformat a HDD or SSHD that was used in a PS4 to work on a PC. Also, how would you go about doing that? I haven't tried anything yet as I was wondering if it were possible to do.
  17. Roye

    Raid 10

What the hard drive for raid 10 or should i get with raid 0 and do i need a special system ?
  18. Hi there, I considering buying either a 1tb 7200 WD black drive or the 1tb 5400 pm blue. The use case is gaming with and backing up via cloneing my operating system drive (240 gb ssd) on a weekly basis. Does anyone know if there is a noticeable difference in load times in game (or any other gaming performence differences) between a 5400 and a 7200 rpm hard drive as the sustained read speeds look similar, but I guessing the slower drive would have more latency. Joe
  19. Hi, i have a laptop with 120gb m.2 sata ssd as os(:C) and a 500gb 5400rpm slow toshiba hdd(:D) as secondary drive. The old drives often cause fps spikes in open world games(GTAV) and sometimes in NFS2015 the world just went black because of the slow read speeds. (i guess?) I want to get the seagate firecuda drive to replace the slow secondary drive. Q1. will changing it to the firecuda sshd can help me? (for all the shutters) Q2. If I get the firecuda and a external 2.5" enclosure bay, how do I clone the old drive to new drive? I have lots of programs and application in that (:D) drive. I dont think I can just copy and paste it.
  20. Usually when i try to make youtube video of a newly released game. i install it and do a walk through for about a hour and i'll post it. then i'll move the installed files(whole game folder) to a external drive and remove it from the control panel. due to low space in my internal HDD. later, when i get interest to complete the full game i'll just copy the game back to the internal HDD and play. Recently i noted fragmentation happens very fast in my games drive. (Check Image Attachment) My question is by just copy and playing game cause any problem in fragmentation and optimization will it affect HDD life? or do i need to install again fresh and play the game? It is not even a day after the defragmentation completed and the games drive got 7% fragmented is that a sign of hard disk dying? Pls hlp..... Note: i use the games drive for downloading and playing games only no softwares.
  21. so i have a gtx 660 gpu, and the last time i used the computer everything was running well and today when i turned the computer on, it was running at low resolution. i checked to see gpu details and everything was n/a at the display adapter properties. i went to add or remove programs and all the nvidia drivers were there. i uninstalled them and reinstalled the drivers and everything was ok again. i want to know what could have caused this.is my hard disk failing?
  22. I was shopping for a new hard drive and I understand that hard drives are not something you should cheap out on. I was curious because I found a Toshiba hard drive that was a lot cheaper than seagate and western digital drives, plus it has the same length warranty as the other two.
  23. Hello everyone Just a bit of background, I am new to this forum and am in need of a bit of help with my storage in my system. When i I built my computer I wasn't thinking about my storage. I know right it's stupid but what's done is done. I have a small SSD in my system, about 250GB but as I came to realise that is not enough to house the operating system plus all sorts of games that I wanted. So as I realise it you need a HDD with a SSD. Now I will admit I am not good with computers. I do not know the procedure of adding a HDD to an SSD system as well as getting a boot drive with all the drives as well as the operating system, also how do you set this all up with running both drives together. In short my knowledge is lacking seriously on all of this and I hope that maybe you could help me. If you could give me advice on this issue or direct me to videos I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you you for all your help.
  24. What would be the difference in speed between x2 5400rpm drives and x2 7200rpm drives used in raid 0. And if i had x3 5400rpm drives would it beat x2 7200rpm drives? How much faster might it be? Any ideas? Thanks ~ Grover
  25. I'm buying additional drives for our small business NAS, and have chosen Red Pro in the past due to the slight performance increase compared to Red and 5-year warranty, which makes it cheaper per TB per warranty-year. We run zfs with mirrored pairs and a separate zil, currently with FreeNAS. While shopping for more drives though, I've noticed that WD Gold, which as far as I know is what WD would want you to use for configurations with more than 16 drives, is cheaper than the 1-to-16-drive-rated Red Pro drives. I know that the drive bay rating is kind of marketing bs and I can do whatever I want with my drives, but I'm confused as to why Red Pros are more expensive right now. Is there any known reason for this? Thanks
