So pretty much as the title says, there’s a weird plasticky smell coming from my computer, I’m assuming its my GPU since I realized this smell right after swapping my GPU. My current one is an Asus Strix GTX970. The smell is pretty faint but my sister helped me confirm that there is definitely something there. Also something to note, this GPU hasn’t been used for awhile, around 2 years. Whether or not it plays a role, I got no idea. Ideas and advice is appreciated.

Hi Everyone, I have just updated my monitor to a Xiaomi 34" ultrawide. I used it for work for some days with my DellXPS 13 (through HDMI) no issues at all the display works great! but when connected it to my 5yrs old PC ( i7 6700K, MSI Z170A, GTX 970), everything worked fine for a while and I was able to set the refresh rate at 144Hz. After 5/10 min at 144Hz my whole screen froze. I thought it was just a random crash and I rebooted but yeah it was not a random crush.. - turning it back on, the PC the pc was starting normally but there was no video signal (not even the bios) from any port (motherboard ones included). - I noticed that the CPU error led was on so I tried to check if any of the peripherals was causing the issue and after some try and fail bam it was the GPU. Remove it and the PC boot just fine. - I tried the other PCI-e but again no luck same issue as before. - GPUs gives no sign of being broken (fan are spinning led are on normally) So, to get to my questions, is this ever happened to any of you? Do you think it's more likely that simply the GPU fried or that something is wrong with the Motherboard/Pci-e-lanes? I mean, it's a 5 yrs GPU so if it is just broken (still sucks) but what you can do? I am worried that I'll need to fight for the next few months the scalpers to get my hand on a decent new GPU and then find out that it was something else completely or worst something else in my system fried the GPU (the monitor through the DP cable) Cheers

Hello everyone After some thought I found that this could be the right place to ask. I yet never had problems with my performance until I bought my new Monitor. I upgraded from 16:9 20" 1080p to 32:9 49" 1440p. I expected my GPU to limit me but not that hard. This way I remembered why I bought an OC GPU and CPU and started to tinker around. By now I found some stable values but I am not fully sure If it is okay to use this as an everyday profile. My settings: GPU: Asus Strix GTX970 It never gets over 74°C even after an hour of stresstesting. I think these are pretty safe? CPU: Intel I7 4790K (normally at 4GHz, Boost 4.4GHZ) I have set the values in the BIOS but the AI Suite picked them up. (All cores are the same) If you wonder about the Values shown at the bottom, speedstepping and turbo is still enabled as I don't think it has to heat the Room unnecessary and may shorten the lifespan less. The Voltage under load shows about 1.296V with short spikes up to 1.301V. Whilst stresstesting the temperatures are varying between 70°C and 85°C. Averaging at around 74°C. 85°C Are often just while fans are ramping up afterwards 80°C seems to be the maximum hit after an hour. Do the temps always vary so much during stresstesting or is my cooling setup a bit sketchy? I think my 800W powersupply should be able to deliver without problems and it also did not seem to limit whilst I stresstested GPU and CPU for an hour simultaniously. What do you think about these settings? Is this acceptable (for the next years)? I think I will replace the GPU with a 3070 or a 4060 as soon as they are available for a relatable price. If there is anything left I forgot, tell me! :) Thank you all very much beforehand and enjoy the day! Greetings from Switzerland, Ale.

I am planing on building a system with the following components: CPU i5 4590 no OC RAM 16GB DDR3 GPU GTX970 MOBO H81M-K MEM WD GREEN 240gb + 1TB 7200rpm HDD I'm eyeing out a corsair CX550M but I am willing to switch my opinion I need to mention that the system will be running pretty much all day along rendering in Blender editing videos and occasionally gaming at 1080p

Hi, I am just wondering if there is a way for me to mod my gtx 970 (palit oem blower) to get some good temps while still being quiet? I have been looking for aftermarket coolers but they just aren't available in the UK anymore. Could I possibly use a cpu cooler for my gtx 970 as, the stock heatsink is tiny.

Recently I bought a GTX 970. The exact model is zotac 970 amp extreme core. When I tested it, it had extremely high temps and it was thermal throttling. I thought that the high temperatures caused the artifacting. I opened up the GPU and it basically had zero thermal paste applied. I changed the thermal paste but the artifacts still persist. The artifacts appears whenever i shut down my pc and turn it on. When I restart it the artifacting doesn't appear. After being on for a while some artifacts appear like in the photo I attached, but disappear after a bit of time. The artifact after I turn on my pc look similar to the photo I attached, but instead of groups, the dots appear randomly and alone. The artifacting disappears after the windows lock screen. The artifacts don't appear without drivers. I am 100% sure it's the gpu's fault. The problem also happens on other computers with the 970 installed. Is there any way I could fix the gpu so it wouldn't artifact.

Well I been waiting for a RTX 3070 to go with my Ryzen5 3600 to play Cyberpunk 2077. But, you know the rest... Anyway since Steam Summer sale is going on, I am wondering if Cyberpunk 2077 with Patch 1.23 can run with 1080P Medium or High setting on a GTX 970 + Ryzen R5 3600. My monitor can only do 60fps but I want something higher than 30-40 with little to no stutter. If you have a GTX 1060 comment about what you get too! I believed 970 is close to 1060 in performance.

Hello everyone, I am building a new system and I am still waiting on my GPU (RTX 3080) to arrive. I have found similar problems, but not as specific as mine... so sorry if this is a duplicate thread but I haven't found one that's the same. The problem I have with this system is the following... Whenever I launch a game, I get a black screen (no signal from gpu), sometimes during the loading screen or after 15-20 sec in the game. I can still hear the sounds in the game, and after 10 seconds the black screen has occurred I can hear the notification sound of the windows like a new hardware being plugged in / detected. At this point I have to restart my pc to regain the display. After the restart I can see the notification that the display drivers have crashed. I have tried stress testing the system with Aida64 Extreme and it goes fine without freezing / crashing / black screens. I have also tried Memtest86 and it shows no errors / freezing even after 2-3 hours of running. I can leave YouTube on for hours and it doesn't crash. I am waiting on my RTX 3080 to arrive, and until then I am stuck with this old GPU. To make things even more complicated, the GPU works like a charm when I plug it in the old computer I have... no crashes, nothing. Things I have tried so far: 1. Stress testing with Memtest86, Aida64 Extreme (All good) 2. Launching different games (all result with black screen) 3. Turning off XMP, Precision Boost Overdrive 4. Removing one RAM stick, booting with one, switching slots and what not... 5. Trying both PCI-express lanes 6. Trying 3 different power cables for the GPU 7. Reseating the GPU countless times to make sure the double lock is properly engaged 8. Removing BIOS battery and clearing 9. Clean install windows 10. Tried different SSD's and windows versions 11. Tried cleaning drivers with DDU and installing older drivers 12. Tried undervolting and downclocking the GPU I Q-Flashed the bios when I received the motherboard in order to prepare it for the CPU (Ryzen 5900x). Everything went great, and the bios version is F31o (AGESA Version 1.1.0.0). My system: MB: X570 Aorus Elite (F31o bios) CPU: Ryzen 9 5900x Ram: 2 x 16gb 3600Mhz G.Skill TridentZ RGB 16-19-19-39 GPU: Asus STRIX GTX 970 Direct CUII 4Gb SSD: Kingston 240Gb (just for testing purposes) PSU: Evga Supernova GA 850W Gold Plus Cpu Cooling: Corsair iCue H100i RGB Pro XT Monitor: 2 x Dell U2719D Windows: Win10 Pro x64 (latest update) Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I want to use the new system with my GTX 970 until the new GPU arrives. Thanks!

Whenever I am doing menial tasks on my pc, like watching YouTube, listening to music, or anything that doesn't require much power, my pc will sometimes freeze. Somedays it does it 3 times, and some days not at all. I suspect its my 970 because what happens is the screen freezes, but audio is still playing, and I can even pause the video with the spacebar like normal. After it freezes it doesn't bluescreen, but just restarts. So could my card be the issue?

Hey People, so I´ve upgraded my PC today. My old specs were (which I changed): Motherboard: Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z97 Intel Z97 So.1150 Dual Channel DDR3 ATX Retail CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K 4x 4.00GHz So.1150 BOX RAM: 2x 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 DIMM CL9 Dual Kit Cooler: EKL Alpenföhn Brocken ECO GPU: 4096MB Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX OC Edition PSU: 760 Watt Corsair AX Series Modular 80+ Platinum I upgraded to the following rig: Motherboard: MSI Z490-A Pro, So.1200, ATX CPU: Intel Core i5 10600K 6x 4.10GHz So.1200 WOF RAM: 2x 16GB (2x 8192MB) G.Skill RipJaws V rot DDR4-3600 DIMM CL19-20-20-40 Dual Kit Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 Tower GPU: 4096MB Asus GeForce GTX 970 STRIX OC Edition (5yrs old) PSU: 760 Watt Corsair AX Series Modular 80+ Platinum (5yrs ols) Basically I swapped everything out, except the PSU and GPU. Earlier this day I checked and everything in the old System was working fine. After installing all of my components I switched my PC on and got the message "No input/signal" on my Screen ( Dell S2721DGF (27", 2560 x 1440 Pixels) ). I´ve had my GPU connected to my monitor by using a Display Port cable, the same which was used in the old setup. I tested 3 DP Cable, none solved it. I tried an HDMI on the GPU, didn´t work either. I tried connecting either a DP cable or HMDI directly to the mainboard to use my Onboard GPU, didn´t solve it either. Somewhat the Idea of physically removing the GPU (GTX) from the Mainboard came to my mind. I did that (removed power etc ofc) and connected a DP cable to my mainboard, there was a screen for maybe 5 min, after that it flickered some seconds and went off again and never came back. But as I used HDMI plugged into my mob everything worked fine. I updated the bios, installed windows, updated and installed any availiable drivers etc etc. After that I plugged my GPU back in (left the connection beetween my mob and monitor untouched) and was back where I started. No Debug LED starts blinking neither is there beep code, when I switch the PC on with my GPU installed. When I start my PC, all the Fans turn on (CPU and Case). GPU Fans don´t but thats normal, my 970 has some kind of idle mode which only starts the two fans when there is (a lot) load . Things I´ve tried: - Changed all Cables (DP/HDMI) - Tried every HDMI/DP Slot - Tried every PCIe Slot - all possible combinations of the above Regarding what I do , where I plug in which ever Cable, I get a black Screen with no signal as soon as my GPU is physically plugged into my System. As soon as it is removed and I´m using my onboard graphics card with HDMi everything is fine. I´ve no idea what to do or try next, I would appreciate any help. PS: my system has been fully hard reset and all other components(including Monitor) except the GPU and PSU aren´r older than 3 Weeks. PSPS: sorry for any grammar issues, english isn´t my first language Kind Regards Ryan

I just had a new hard drive put into my seven-year-old system because the old one crashed. Windows 10 had to be reloaded along with all the drivers including my graphics card, ASUS Strix GTX970. For some reason, it keeps thinking that it is hot and cranks up the fan. It started with just slowly heating up, not right after i boot up, it reads 80+ degrees! The GPU Tweak is currently reading 87 degrees. It does not show that the card is cooling and the card does not feel hot. Anyone know what is going on? Is the driver messed up somehow? Thank you for any help!

I’ve been trying to hook up a 3rd display to my GTX 970 (which should be fine with up to 4 iirc), my card has 1 HDMI, 1 VGA and 2 Mini DisplayPorts, I’ve used the HDMI/VGA forever and both work fine, I’m trying to use a DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor from the PC, into the HDMI port of my 3rd monitor No matter what I do, the screen always shows that there is no signal (32In LG smart-TV) I’ve tried different cables and different ports to check it wasn’t anything cable or port related, but can’t think of anything else to try. The monitor works fine with a normal HDMI cable, and the DisplayPort adaptor configuration won’t output to any of my other monitors, I’ve tried 2 different DisplayPort to HDMI adaptors, one of which was brand new today. Anybody else had this sort of issue and mind sending me some suggestions?

Hello, recently I have a problem that happens randomly and only in game and only in certain games. When I launch Rocket league for example I have these color screens that appear. In addition I still hear the sound of the game and also discord. I can hear them for a few seconds or else until I turn off the computer. This problem does not appear in all games. The games with which I encounter this problem are: Rocket league and trackmania. i also play at csgo(only one crash in maybe 30 hours and it was a black screen), Escape from tarkov, no man's sky without crash. I can either do a long session and not have a crash or otherwise this problem appears at launch or after a few minutes. In game my gpu reach approximately 80°C. My specs: Ryzen 5 2600 TUF B450-plus Gaming 2*8 GO ram corsair 3000 MHz Gigabyte GTX 970 4GO blower PSU: Venom POWER 850 W Bios version: 1607 I need help to know what is the problem because i saw on the web that it can come from the PSU or the GTX 970 and i can't change both of them THANKS for your Help.

Heyho lovely Forum, before I'm writing anything more I have to say sorry if didn't understood all I'm not a native english speeker I apologise. okay let's start with my big issue I bought a Pentium G3258 for 10$ used and It got never OC'd. I managed to OC it to 4,5ghz with a Z97N Gaming 5 from Gigabyte at 1.444V, 16gb DDR3 1600mhz G.Skill Trident X. Cooler Master 212X, Be Quiete 500W PSU 80+ Bronce can't tell the exzact model number but its an older model, GTX970 Gaming G edition and my lovely iiyama Prolite XB3270QS 32Inch WQHD Monitor. I swaped out my main CPU (Xeon E3 1231 v3) to have a fun time while oc and while that my bad time began. I began to have such a bad time while booting. I'm getting when I'm shutting down the pc Black screens and I have to Reset the Cmos battery to manage it to boot. The Xeon which officialy supports DDR3 1600 can't boot with 1600 I have to Downgrade it to 1333mhz to have it booted and even on 1333 I have to Clear the Cmos battery to get a boot. I wrote with some people who helped me already but don't know the issue or they are out off idea. The last advise I've got was to make a Thread in this forum. Things I already done which didn't helped : - Memtest86 - try to boot with @stock speed - Checking dead pins - Bios updating - Checking of Damaged condensators If you have any more Advice or help I appreciate it Greeting

So I'm trying to figure out what to stream Rainbow Six Siege with, my GPU or my CPU. I have a gtx windforce 970 and a i7 8700k 3.7 GHz. I'm not sure to use Nvenc New because I have a older card or stick with x264 because I have a decent CPU. I'm trying to stream 720p at 60FPS with 5000 kbs and I just want to make sure that I'm not lagging and that the stream isnt lagging. Look ahead is on and so is Psycho Tuning which do take up more gpu. I'd also like to run Rainbow Six on Vulkan for better performance and targeted fps but I can run the normal version. Thank you for helping in any way in advance ! 2020-04-27 20-26-39.txt

Hi. I recently reinstalled the OS because my PC was lagging so much. Since then in some more demanding games (ex. Witcher 3, Battlefield 4 on Ultra, sometimes The Division, once happened in Unigine Valley at some custom preset), my GPU tends to "restart" once in a while (sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes it does not, sometimes after 8+ hours). It just shuts down the graphic driver, sometimes i get error saying "application access to graphics hardware has been blocked"( This particular error i have in Bulletstorm after 30-60 minutes of playing). Etc etc. It never happened on previous instance of Windows. Will there be anyone to help me? PC SPECS: OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 v1607 (build 14393.693) CPU: I5-4690 (without K - locked frequency) GPU: EVGA GTX970 SC with ACX 2.0 - Drivers version: 378.66 - Also happened with 376.33 - NOT OVERCLOCKED RAM: Patriot Viper 3 2x4GB CL9 1600MHz MB: MSI H97 Gaming 3 - Bios version 1.11 (1.B) PSU: BeQuiet! Here is the list of what i tried to do: Turning it off and on again Force Windows Update Repair windows via SFC and DISM Reinstalling graphical drivers after uninstalling them with DDU Reinstalling the games Reseating the GPU Check voltages at 12V line (Voltages are normal - ranging from between 11.70V to 12.30V) Checking temps (all normal - GPU under load sitting at around 60-70C, CPU under load 68) And by all means - No i haven't tried to swap the GPU's nor the PSU's. I'm not linus, i don't have a bucket of GPU's and a shelf of Power Supplies.

Hello guys, I want some confirmation the custom BIOS I have (didn't make it myself) will be valid for my GPU because I have one that has the voltage locked to 1.200 in BIOS and hardware locked to 1.212 V but I need a BIOS mod to even reach 1.212V. I have a GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 and there are my original (GM204.rom) and cutsom (970SCPL.rom) BIOS. Have a look at them and approve of them so I'm sure the custom one won't brick my card or cause any issues please. Thanks 970SCPL.rom GM204.rom

Firstly hi. My problem is I'm having really low fps in some games with this GPU. For example: CS:GO with 1024x768 resolution and max settings I can get 120-150 fps H1Z1 Kotk with 1920x1080 resolution and mid settings 50-75 fps League of Legends 1920x1080 resolution and max settings 90-110 fps Some of you people may think it is a good performance but it's not and it feels like 30 fps. I've been thinking to upgrade my motherboard and old cpu to solve this problem but I can't be sure that this is a bottlenecking problem. If so what should I upgrade with my low budget to get full performance of this GPU. GPU : Asus GeForce GTX970 ROG STRIX GDDR5 4GB 256Bit DX12 NVIDIA CPU : i5-2310 2.90 GHz (4 Core) LGA1155 Motherboard : Asus H61-M Pro Ram : Kingston HyperX Savage 16 GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3

Hi Guys, RE- posting here :-) as I put it in build troubles but this surely has to be a graphics issue or something. I know short and simple may work but I want to give you some back story. I am using my PC for music production and gaming. After a while away from audio production (too much gaming) I decided to try my software (pro tools) it did not start and was having issues. No big issue I thought - WRONG. Tried reinstalling..nothing same issues. A few hours later and still no change. EDIT this issue came about after moving all installer files (.msi etc) I DID MAKE BACK UP ETC ( i just heard moving them would free up the space on my SSD ( DONT DO IT) So after scrabbling around for ages I thought sod it and made a backup image of the drive and did a reinstall of windows. After finishing this I installed pro tools and boom it worked. So I assumed it must have been the installer files. So I made a image of this system and restored the old one ( this is due to the other software I use and not wishing to have to install all of it again) So now I have recovered the older image, replaced installer files with new ones from new system image I also then replaced them with the back up of the installer files I had already made previous. loaded pro tools and plugins again just in case and boom it worked amazing..... Now the issue, after checking pro tools works, I wanted to check my gaming situation and nope I have issues. I fire a gun in the division and i get delay massively. This I did not get as before, the games where not an issue and running like a dream. I have ran Sfc scannow (or whatever it is in cmd) I have ran Cinebench (slow as hell) I have ran AVG Auto tune up to stop background programs etc etc. now also just done "manage 3d settings" in nvida control panel to restore. oh i also checked game files and all there was, was and update for the division and it downloaded directx again.
