  1. Hi all, I just recently bought DOOM Eternal on Steam. The specs of my rig are: CPU - Intel i7 6700 GPU - ROG RTX2070 Super RAM - 16GB Monitor - LG 2560x1080 Ultrawide (75Hz) Unfortunately, the game is unplayable for me due to random drops in frame rate down to single digits. These drops occur seemingly at random whether I'm walking down a straight corridor or in the middle of combat. When the game is working I usually have a comfortable 150 fps. I am playing on the Ultra nightmare preset with Gsync off. I am also having a smaller issue with screen tearing. Does anyone have any advice? Edit: I can also confirm that I have the latest drivers installed and I have verified the game files in Steam.
  2. I was wondering if anyone could help me with low frame rates in warzone? I am running about 60fps at 1440 and I can barely even run the game in 4k 20-40fps. This is the one think I didn't want to run in with building a PC as now I have spent the better part of 4 months not being able to figure this out and ready to break everything...so any help would be appreciated. my system is as follows MSI MPG B550 Gigabyte Aorus Geforce RTX 3070 Ryzen 7 3700x 2 x 8 corsair vengeance RGB pro ddr4 3600 (currently in a2 b2 slot)
  3. Hi, So I am having a real problem with the latest Call of Duty game on my PC. Whenever I have anything video related on my second monitor, YouTube, Twitch, Streamlabs OBS etc. When I tab back into the game with one of these windows open I can only maintain 20fps max! The moment I minimize the window, the frame rate goes back up and is stable. I dropped the settings down to lowest on everything and still have the issue. This is only happening with Call of Duty, every other game is running smooth as silk. My PC Specs are: i7 9700k 4.6ghz 32gb DDR4 3200mhz MSI Aero RTX 2070 8gb (not overclocked) 500gb WD Black SN750 M.2 (boot drive) 2tb WD SN750 M.2 (game drive) 650W Corsair PSU (bronze rated) Temps are fine on both GPU (67C) and CPU (60C) No crazy voltage flucuations showing in HWMonitor GPU usage is around 87% CPU around 60% I have tried this with both Chrome and Firefox and got the same results. I have rebooted multiple times. Checked file intergrity and I have done a scan and repair on battlenet a couple of times with no errors found. GPU drivers are also up to date. Anybody got any suggestions as I am stumped? ☹ Cheers, Dappatron
  4. Related post: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1459581-what-is-your-take-on-60-vs-120-refresh-rate-on-non-competitive-fps-games/#comment-15596074 After playing for a couple hours, I realized that I left my refresh rate at 144hz but had set a frame rate limit of 88 in Nvidia Control Panel. The thing is... I didn't notice the difference, it felt really smooth, is that what G-Sync and FreeSync are supposed to do? Because if the answer is yes, I wish I had knew about this for a really long time.
  5. I was hoping someone can get me some insight on what could be happening here. My cousin's laptop is having random frame rate issues while playing games. It doesn't matter what game it is nut it will drop frame rate down to single digits or teens. What is odd is it one day it will be fine but the next day act up. He has uninstalled games, reinstalled windows, and have done multiple swipes on it so I doubt it is a software issue. He has ran tests on the ram and everything seems to be ok there. He also checked gpu as well and that seems ok as well. Not sure what else could cause it unless there is a defect somewhere directly on the mother board.
  6. What if you didn’t need the best frame rate to reduce input latency? What if your display’s refresh rate was enough all on its own? With Async reprojection, anything is possible… Even turning 30 FPS into 240. Comrade Stinger's original video + download links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvFyOFacljg 2kliksphilip's video about async reprojection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8piCZz0p-Y
  7. First thing first, I can't stand screen tearing, not entirely sure how people cope with it! With that said, I'm also not a fan of the input lag 'traditional' vsync tends to introduce. Hence it's no surprise that I've been experimenting with FastSync for quite awhile now. Actually two years, give or take! Here's my take on FastSync: Capping the frame rate is 'The Key'. I can't stress this enough. If you've had a horrible experience with FS then that's probably because you were running with uncapped framerate. Your monitor's refresh rate is an important factor. If you've, for example, a 60Hz display then cap the frame rate at either 60, 90 or 120 (no need to go beyond that). DO NOT cap the frame rate at say 100FPS or 80FPS or worse, somewhere between 63-67FPS (as suggested by some Redditors). It'll cause severe 'frame judder' or micro stuttering. Contrary to popular beliefs, FS works 'Surprisingly' well at 'native frame rates'. When I play at 60 capped on my 60Hz monitor with FS, it feels like playing at ~40-45 without sync which makes sense because FS discard unfinished frames and only renders complete ones. If you're used to 30FPS console gaming then you likely won't mind it. Frame rate consistency is another very important factor. Frame rate must be 99% stable for FS to work properly. Some games don't like FS. I'm not entirely sure why! Also, you can't use it with OpenGL titles, only DirectX. Lastly, FS is NOT a substitute for 'proper' VRR technology. But it can be very rewarding IF you do it right and understand its limitations. Well, that's about it! I hope it helps.
  8. I was doing research on getting 2 monitors with different refresh rates (144hz and 60hz) and read that this can cause the faster monitor to be slowed down. Can I use the motherboard display ports to avoid this? (Plugging in the second monitor to the motherboard) Second monitor would mostly be used fo youtube, and discord Not gaming. I was also wondering if I can use a tv as a second monitor and if it has the same effect as the 2 different refresh rates on the faster monitor. Thank you in advance !
  9. So X-Plane has this cool overlay feature that shows your CPU vs GPU frame times. As I understand, this will definitively tell you if you are CPU or GPU bottle-necked, by indicating which of the two is spending more time processing each frame (on average). Shown here, we see the CPU is the clear bottle-neck, and is spending over 50% more time processing each frame. So my question is, does a similar application exist that will work with any game? When using something like Afterburner, you can easily spot a CPU bottleneck when your GPU is at low utilization. Similarly, if my GPU is close to 95%+ utilization, we can safely say that my GPU is the bottleneck. However, since most games cannot fully utilize all cores in most CPU's, how can one determine how severely your GPU is bottle-necking your CPU? For example, if my GPU is at 60% utilization, I know that (assuming the game is capable of full utilization) I am losing roughly 40% of my GPU's full potential. On the flip side, if my GPU is at 100%, and my (lets say quad core) CPU is running at 50% utilization, I can never be sure how much potential I am losing without knowing how capable the game is of utilizing my entire CPU. In this scenario, you could suggest reducing my resolution to remove my GPU bottleneck, and to then compare my frame rates (or CPU utilization) when my CPU is instead the bottle-neck. But wouldn't lowering the resolution still offload a small workload from my CPU? I understand I am probably overthinking this, but it seems like a tool like X-Plane's would be super useful for precisely (and quickly) measuring the severity of a GPU bottleneck. Honestly not sure if any of this makes sense. Been running off 30 seconds of sleep and a cereal bar for the past few days. But if anyone has a solution to this, or can at least correct my ignorance, it would be much appreciated EDIT: I also know I can just look at other benchmarks to determine how well a specific game can utilize any given CPU, but still, I think a tool like this would be easier.
  10. Hi everyone, Pardon me being a computer building noob, but my friend helped me pick out the parts for a new PC last week. We put it together, and I'm getting some really low FPS on this new rig as compared to my 2010 machine that we had been upgrading over time. I'm using the same graphics card I had on the previous, so I doubt that is the cause, but where I used to get 40-60 FPS in GTA5, I'm now staying at a fairly stable 30 FPS. This seems to also translate to a few other games, but I haven't tested them all yet. This low FPS doesn't seem like a big win in my favor as I had a pretty decent machine. Kinda feels like I spent $1500~ for nothing. I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have as to the cause. Is it likely the CPU or do you think there could be another factor in this build? Am I better off returning the CPU for an Intel as Ryzen may not be optimized w/ certain games? CORSAIR CXM series CX750M 750W GIGABYTE AORUS GA-AX370-Gaming K7 AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Processor Corsair Force MP500 Series M.2 SSD 240GB Internal Drive Seagate 4TB Enterprise Capacity Sapphire 11244-01-20G Radeon NITRO R9 390 8GB *I can list other relevant rig pieces upon request (Water cooler, etc, etc) Thank you!
  11. Hello! I am having a really weird problem recently where the fps of all my games have had a significant drop. It started yesterday when i was playing Paragon. I was playing for a couple of hours when all of a sudden my fps drops from 60 to 20. I tried playing some other games to see if they were also having the same issue, so I loaded up rocket league. Rocket League was experiencing the same frame drop issue. I looked at temperatures while the games are running and my PC is not overheating and all of my fans are spinning. I ran full scans with malware bytes, bitdefender, windows defender, and spybot search and destroy and nothing came up. here are my specs: Processor: Intel Core i3 6100 Motherboard: Gigabyte H170N-WIFI Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 (Not Overclocked) Ram: 1 stick of Corsair Vengeance LP 8gb ddr4 i am running windows 10 on an SSD and have a mechanical drive for storage
  12. I bought a MSI 1070 gaming X GPU the other day to replace my old card. I uninstalled all of my old AMD drivers, I ran DDU, and then I installed the latest Nvidia drivers. The problem is I can't run Battlefield 1 at a constant 60 fps while my buddy with a 980ti is able to get it over 100 FPS. This issue is incredibly frustrating and I would of thought that for 400 dollars I would be getting much better performance. I messed with just about every setting in game, turning off Direct X 12 did nothing, and turning the resolution scaling down to 50 % did not help me get any frame rates over 80 fps with drops to 60 fps. This is extremely odd to me, I've tried reinstalling the drivers, and that did not do anything either. I ran the "Time Spy" benchmark on 3DMark and scored a 5531. (graphics score of 6092, cpu score of 3635). From what I can tell that is very low. And advice would be much appreciated. My other specs are as follows:Cpu- Intel i7 4770k OC to 4.0 or 4.2 GHzMotherboard- Asus 787-kRam- 8 GB single stick DDR3PSU- Corsair RM1000 watt Gold GPU- MSI gaming X 1070
  13. Hey forum, I have been having a completely bizarre problem plaguing my computer over the course of the past year or so. I will have lighter weight games like Tales from the borderlands, danganronpa 2, and overwatch run at high frame rates (60 or above) but have constant stuttering. The most recent example was in Tales from the Borderlands, the fps counter provided by Shadowplay stayed steady around 60, but the game was constantly stuttering. This is incredibly frustrating and any insight into the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! PC specs are listed in signature.
  14. I recently got a second hand EVGA GTX 980 for the low. But I seem to get worse FPS. (Upgrade from a MSI R9 390 OC) So there are a two main games I play. CS GO and BF1. So a little inside about the monitor set-up I have a ASUS 1440p 144hz freesync monitor. Also I am rocking a i7 4790K Also the GTX 980 was overclocked to 1480 MHz core and 1762 MHz Memory BF1 CSGO Firestrike R9 390 55 FPS 285-299 FPS 11,191(13,111 Graphics score) GTX 980 64 FPS 170-240 FPS 12,388(14,874 Graphics score) Sometimes the frame rate will drop to under 100 fps. I have tried a full AMD driver nuke and reinstalled the Nvidia drivers. Does anyone know what might be going on? Or if any other Nvidia CS GO players want to chime in?
  15. I just got a new monitor 144hz with G-Sync. I wanted to experience higher refresh rates. I was playing Doom with in-game V-Sync off. When V-Sync is off the games FPS goes up to 200 which is not stable. I managed to make it stable by using riva tuner and capping it to 144hz. Here's what I need to know. Does capping the frame rate using riva tuner cause input lag? What's the best way to cap frame rate without any losing any input lag.
  16. I have an i5-8400 and a GTX 1070 TI. I ordered a 1440p 144hz monitor on Amazon, and it will arrive next week. Do you have any suggestion on if I should set games to 1080p and take advantage of the 144hz, or 1440p and probably a lower frame rate? I doubt I can run games at 1440p 144hz. I mostly play single player games like The Witcher 3 and strategy games like Tropico 6.
  17. Im not sure if this is the right thread to post this question on, if its not im sorry in advance. Im playing a moba on my new lap top ( i5 8250U, 8GB ram, GTX 1050 2GB) which isnt very demanding. When i use the recommended settings from ge force expirence it tells me i should have everything on max 1080p. When i would do that i would have high frame rates but when a fight in game would break out i would start lagging a little. So i lowered everything to minimum 1080p and i would have 150fps until a fight would happen in the game and i would again have the lag. I play the same game on my PC ( i5 6500, 8GB ram, GT 740 2GB) at 1080p medium settings with 100+ fps without any lag. Im curious is this maybe a bottleneck from my CPU or is my CPU good enough and i should look for the problem somewhere else? I was thinking its this just bc without the boost the clock of the i5 8250U is pretty slow. If anyone is curious the Moba is "Smite". Thank you in advance.
  18. I have 3 monitors running off of a Radeon RX 580 on Windows 10. 2560x1440 (native) at 60Hz (Display Port) 1920x1080 (native) at 60Hz (HDMI converted to DVI) 1920x1080 (4k Native) at 60Hz (Television via HDMI) I bought the TV new at black friday, (cheap and chinese, so the scaler and supported frame rates is probably pretty limited). Normally I mirror what's on my second 1080p monitor and the TV. However, even though they all run simultaneously at 60Hz, when I clone monitor 2 & 3, the TV switches to 59Hz, which the TV itself is incapable of displaying (or at least it refuses too). The 2nd monitor remains at 60Hz. This is really confusing, where I would normally change the refresh rate in device manager, you can't do while you have the display cloned, and I already have the correct refresh rate set before I start cloning. I tried Custom Resolution Utility but it doesn't look like you can set custom cloned resolutions (unless I'm missing something). Also the AMD Radeon settings, doesn't let you set custom resolutions on cloned displays. What do I do and why does it switch frame rates like that?
  19. I have two Asus Founders Edition 1080ti 11gig, and I just got a nvidia gsync monitor. Before and after the monitor I swear I can visually see (even without a fps counter) my frames drop in Destiny 2. I have tried SLI off and on, I am not sure if there is something easy that I am missing, I don't feel that those 2 cards should ever go so slow that I can notice it. Any suggestions?
  20. Hey guys, I recently had to swap monitors from a BENQ XL2411 out to an ACER G247HYU because the backlight on my BENQ went out. Before swapping, I was playing between Borderless Windowed and Fullscreen (depending on the game and other tasks I had running) having no issues getting 120+ FPS on all games. On the ACER, I now drop to between 20-23 FPS in Fullscreen, while maintaining high FPS when in windowed mode. Is anyone able to offer a suggestion as to why this may be happening and how I might go about resolving it? Thanks in advance! 21. So today I was talking to a friend about frame rate, and how I overclocked my monitor to edge out a couple of more frames since I am planning to get a new monitor soon and am not to concerned about the warranty. As I do this I go to Overwatch and raise the FPS limit above the display setting out of curiosity from 74FPS to 140FPS and suddenly the game feels ALOT more smoother. Where my question lies is... Why does the in game frame rate (140FPS) affect the way I perceive the game on monitor (74 FPS) as more smoothly though it is above the cap?
  22. Hello everyone, So recently me and a friend got in a discussion, about having a frame rate which is either throttled to the same as your monitors refresh rate, or to just either set i to unlimited, or limit it to something high like 300. I was saying that it would make no difference if you had a frame rate higher than 144 on a 144 hertz screen, and it would just be a waste of hardware performance. While my friend was saying that 300 frames per second would be much better because it shows more recent frames. So, it really got me wondering, is there actually a difference? So i set up a quick example for my friend to prove a point. I said, imagine you had a 24 hertz screen with 24 frames per second. The catch was that it had to be one hundred percent stable frame rate, which is not realistic. But anyway i made a quick illustration showing that having a higher fps than your monitors refresh rate, would not show more recent frames. And when i made it i saw something that really got me wondering. Illustration OK so i proved my point, it does not show more recent frames and if you match hertz and frame rate perfectly, because it would not be able to show frames that have not been created yet (that is called time travel). But i noticed that having a higher frame rate would show delayed frames! So i opened a spreadsheet and i started doing the math. I calculated everything into milliseconds which is an easy equation (1000*1/x) with x being refresh rate or frame rate. That would quickly turn the hertz or frames per second into how many milliseconds it would take per update. Spreadsheet screenshot (full spreadsheet attached) So i noticed if you have one hundred percent stable frame rate if your frame rate is higher that your refresh rate on your monitor it would create an delay. It shows that with 300 frames per second on a 144 hertz screen, it would increase the delay from ~0.2 milliseconds to ~3 milliseconds where after 25 frames it would hit zero delay and start increasing the delay to ~3 milliseconds again. (Please note i did not take monitor response time into consideration, or fluctuations in frame rate) And it really confused me because it created delays up to three whole milliseconds, when we started our discussion i didn't even think this was the case. And i must admit, while i know a lot of things about computers. This is not my specialty, i tried to do a little reading but couldn't find anything on this specific topic. While i am pretty sure this is not the case in reality because of fluctuations in frame rate, and the fact that professional e-sport players would unintentionally create delay, which i am pretty sure they would not want to. So i was wondering if any smart heads that know a lot about these things could tell me if this is actually happening or if i really just misunderstood the whole principle. I attached the full spreadsheet where it shows all frames and delays for 1 whole second showing all the delays for 300 frames (-162 because they are replaced) And please do correct me if i am wrong, that is why i am posting this Thanks in advance! //Magnus5405 refresh rate and frame rate.xlsx
  23. I know, a single high end graphics card, such as the 1080 ti is already pretty good. But I was just wondering do you think putting multiple 1080 ti's is a good idea for maximum graphiics? a single 1080 ti can't run all games maxed out at 144 FPS, specially at 2K resolutions or higher. I wonder if there will be a lot of stuttering, Ik that depends on the game but what is your experience and do you think stuttering will get worse as you add more cards?
  24. So I recently started playing Shadow of War. Using Geforce Experience it auto configures the image quality to Ultra, however despite it being auto set to ultra, my frame rate is still consistently below 50fps, dipping sometime below 30. Even when I auto config within the game it sets everything to auto, so my assumption is my rig should be able to handle 60fps at Ultra(?). My specs are a Ryzen 7 1700, Msi Geforce 1070, and 32gb of ram. I'm running the game off of an ssd, and I don't have Large Page Mode enabled but I'm working on getting it turned on, but I doubt that alone will fix my problem... right? p.s. When running ultra, the hottest my GPU has gotten is the 71-74C range, so its not throttling.
  25. Hi all, I originally posted this in gaming but I think it may be more appropriate here. My specs are: Ryzen 7 3700x GTX1660 Super Asus Prime X570P 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600mhz (2x 8GB) 500gb sabrent m.2 Corsair CX650M power supply I have been experiencing frame timing issues in CSGO... particularly at high frame rates. I will have really good FPS 280+ consistently but about every 10 seconds or so my frame timings will shoot from 3-4ms to 50+ms for a brief second, resulting in stutter. When I have enabled V-Sync to limit the FPS to 60, the frame time spikes are less extreme and less frequent (staying at 16.7-16.8ms - occasionally spiking to 25-30), but are occasionally noticeable (not just by looking at the RivaTuner overlay). What can I do to troubleshoot this as in a game like CSGO this can be a really big issue? Temps, clock speed, fan speed, CPU speed and temps are all normal, and there doesn't appear to be anything unusual happening in HWiNFO or MSI Afterburner monitor corresponding to the frame timing spikes. Steps I have already tried: Uninstall and reinstall latest Nvidia drivers. Switch off DOCP, returning ram to stock 2666mhz and timings. Tried V-Sync both off and on. Enabling low latency mode in the nvidia control panel (made it worse) Unplugging other devices from the extension lead powering my PC. Tried lowering settings. Is there any chance that my cheapo extension lead could be causing this, giving uneven power deliver (although I thought there were capacitors in the PSU and MB which were meant to mitigate this?)? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is very frustrating as this PC should be able to easily play this game no problem. Thanks
