Budget (including currency): 1200 EUR, not including GPU Country: Slovakia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: PTC CREO, Blender, Video Editing, Photoshop, X-Plane 10, DCS Other details I have a EVGA Hybrid GTX 1070 from an old build that will be used. I would strongly prefer a build with 32GB RAM. Monitors: 2 Why are you upgrading? Upgrading from a Lenovo Y510p laptop that I got in 2012, hoping to enjoy the few months before the end of the world. It's been an absolute beast for the last almost 10 years, but it's time to move on. I don't travel where I need a powerful computer anymore, so I can justify having a powerful desktop, and a tablet and small laptop for work travel. OS: Windows Hi guys, I put together a parts list and would be really grateful if you could look at it and point out if there are any stupid combinations. I will be using a relatively old GTX 1070 - this is unfortunately set, since, in Slovakia, the 30xx series is straight out impossible to get, and prices for even a GTX 1660 are around 700Eur, GTX1050's go for 250Eur at a minimum and I'm not willing to pay that. That being said, I tried to plan a system which would make an installation of an RTX 3070 or 3080 a formality when they are finally available, and would utilize their potential without any upgrades. At the moment though, I fully understand that the system is quite heavily GPU bottlenecked. Also, I planned the system with an Intel i7-10700K, but I'm also open to having an AMD equivalent. Apart from a few intensive work programs, the most demanding program I plan to use with the system is X-Plane, DCS, or MSFS2020, ideally at a quality which would make it possible to stream without the viewers thinking that they are looking through pixelated photos of airplanes. I do have one extremely noob question - the parts I picked are all pretty much from different manufacturers (Asus, msi, aorus, corsair, etc). Is this a functional issue, or more of an aesthetic / fanboy thing? Thanks a lot for all your help and tips Juraj

artifacting Registry changes causing MAJOR GPU glitches.
SimPilotAdamT posted a topic in Troubleshooting
My main use for my desktop (which I built myself) is Microsoft Flight Simulator (the 2020 release). Semi-recently, in the MSFS forums, a performance enhancing registry edit (disabling NDU by changing the `start` DWORD value in `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndu` from the default 2 to 4) was floating around, and this has confirmed to increase performance on various setups with varying settings. Fast forward to last week and every flight I do ends in a crash to desktop. Sometimes the CTD confirms while loading, sometimes the CTD happens in the menu, or sometimes at varying intervals in flight. I haven't completed a single flight sim flight for 2 weeks. In some cases, relaunching the sim only to have it crash again ends up also disconnecting both of my monitors from my GPU momentarily, but it always went back to normal. I tried every fix recommended by the MSFS community and by Microsoft/Asobo themselves. Fast forward again to yesterday and I had a new suggestion: revert my NDU setting change. So I set that registry DWORD value back to 2 and rebooted. The moment I logged in nothing looked amiss, but after a few seconds, starting to stream to Discord and doing some only mildly intensive things on the desktop, I notice HEAVY artifacting. All over both screens (photos will be in a reply to this post). No game is able to load, and using the computer becomes impossible. After rebooting to safe mode and reverting the registry change, everything returns back to normal, albeit the MSFS CTD issue still happens. I checked my GPU temps using HWINFO64 during the artifacting and noticed nothing amiss. Average core temp of 38C and Hot spot of 45C. Memory Junction Temp at 43C. With the registry setting set to 2, no matter what setting I choose in MSI afterburner, The artifacting is as serious. I could be on my usual setting (+150 MHz on the core, +1250 MHz on the memory), stock, or with a 30% power limit, but nothing changes. Every time I set the NDU registry DWORD back to 4, it immediately works as normal. Any ideas? My specs: CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K, 5.2 GHz all core, doesn't go above 80C on a looping Cinebench R23 run GPU: MSI Ventus 3X GeForce RTX 3080 10GB GDDR6X OC, using MX-5 thermal paste and 2mm thick Thermalright Extreme Odyssey thermal pads, +150MHz on the core, +1250MHz on the memory RAM: 2x 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro SL DIMMs, stock at DDR4-3200 16-20-20-34, my settings at DDR4-3500 16-19-20-37 Mobo: Gigabyte Z490 AORUS Pro AX CPU Cooler: Corsair iCue Hydro H100i RGB Pro XT (Arctic MX-5 thermal paste) PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850W G2 80+ Gold rated PSU Storage: 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Pro Clarification: I have tried DDU'ing and installing the latest game ready driver (516.59) as of 2022-27-21. The issue never pops up during boot, or in the initial Windows lock screen. Neither does it show up in GRUB, the Arch Linux boot screen, or within Arch itself, even when doing GPU intensive stuff (playing games like Control, the Watch Dogs trilogy, and the The Crew (2)). In Windows when the issue occurs, I am unable to launch any game (even Minecraft crashes). -

Hi, I currently have two monitors, and I want to use them in an eyefinity setup, but when doing this, games center between my two screens which isn't optimal for me as my screen bezels are rather thick. Is it possible to have my games center on my first screen and carry on onto the second one on my right? If anyone knows how, it would be a big help. Cheers.

vr Virtual reality flight sim for non-profit
Ohnoitcrashedagain posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi guys! I'm going to make a VR flight simulator. I work for MAF, a non-profit whose aircraft fly in developing countries to make aid accessible. We want to give visitors at events a taste of flying in the jungle, like our pilots do. 1. Budget & Location I've got a budget of EUR 3000, with room to add EUR 500, if absolutely necessary. Since we are non-profit, we do not want to spend more than needed. This budget will include the goggles, maybe a monitor (to let other people see what the person in the hot seat is seeing) and some other paraphernalia. We're located in the Netherlands. 2. Aim Well... uhm, VR flight simming. So high enough framerates and pretty scenery are important. We'll probably use either Aerofly FS 2 or X-Plane. Aerofly is less performance heavy and very beautiful, but still limited in its options. 3. Monitors So this will primarily be the goggles and a large but not very high resolution monitor. 4. Peripherals We've got standard computer peripherals and monitors. As for any other peripherals, that'll be the goggles and controllers. I'm still unsettled on whether using Touch controllers or a fixed yoke is the best bet. 5. Why are you upgrading? Because the old flight sim is just not a great experience anymore. And the pc can't really handle anything very well. I might use the case... but maybe a pre-built will be better? I'd love to build, but with GPU-prices being what they are, I don't know what my best bet will be. Maybe 980ti's? Thanks for helping, everyone! -
So im helping a friend of my with a new build, he is into flight sims wich i dont know anything about, so investigating a bit i got confused with what other users recomend, some say les cores and higher speed (wich makes sense since the game was made in 2006) while other say that isnt the case. So im looking into getting him a 7700k or a 8700k with a gtx 1050ti (availability for 1060 or 1070 in spain is hard) but will the 8700k really be a lesser option for flight sims becouse of their age?. Little more info: the game he plays is Microsoft Flight Simulator X, he doesnt do much of installing extras and is looking to get a performance upgrade from his current setup is a desktop mac with i5 at 2,5ghz.

Well I have some switches and pots left over from another project as well as 2 abs project boxes. I also have a T.flight hotas which is too big for my current desk. So I thought why not just cut it up and stuff it into a couple of project boxes? Then I thought why not decouple them into two separate HID devices? Then I thought may as well add a couple more analog pots and a psp analog thumb stick to the throttle while I'm at it... Then I thought why not just buy a bloody saitek x52 instead? and of all these questions this is the only one I had a real answer to, and that is because that would be admitting defeat... Project -Re-house throttle control and flight stick into 1 project box and add some weight to the base. -add a couple of pots for trim, maybe make some small trim wheels. -Hook up throttle to an old usb ps2 style gamepad and add a psp thumbstick for lateral thrust in elite, star citizen etc. -I'm this deep already may as well make some rudder pedals and toe brakes. -use vjoy to have them recognized as one device. Or hook it all up to an Leopold micro, but that would mean I'd need to couple the devices again, though this would remove the dead zone on the t.flight. Why because I like making stuff.

Hello, I am in the process of trying to find the best solution for building a new system that will support gaming as well as doing graphic design work. My specs follow: 1. Budget & Location At present I am considering around 4k for the budget which would include 3 monitors, keyboard, mouse and headset. My location is US. 2. Aim The system will be used for gaming and graphic design. The games I plan to play are Fallout 4, GTA V, Diablo III, Elite: Dangerous, and various driving simulators. I also use Adobe CS6 Master Suite, and will eventually be editing video for commercial spots. There is also a chance I will be creating animations in 3ds Max 2015. 3. Monitors Currently I am considering 3 2k monitors @ 2560X1440 each setup as super wide screen. I may want to include an additional monitor above the other 3 for various reasons. 4. Peripherals As mentioned, I will want to buy new keyboard, mouse and headset. I would like to give the mechanical key type keyboards a try to see how they perform and how I like them. Head tracking hardware/software will also be purchased in this price. 5. Why are you upgrading? I want to upgrade because I used to do wide screen racing, but have run into issues with my hardware being a bit out of date and driver support is no longer available to resolve issues in some of the main stream games I play. I have been a huge AMD fan for many years, but from what I am seeing and from what I have experienced recently it appears that Intel for the CPU and nVidia for the graphics solution seems to be the way to go. I would love to come under budget on this if possible and still be able to do what I need to do on the system with reasonable frame rates and close to maxed out on graphic settings for the most part. I am a realist however and understand that there will be situations where I will have to cut back on some graphics in order to keep my performance levels up. I appreciate any and all advice on this. Hi guys, I'm looking for the best flight simulators out there that are both ultra realistic and have decent graphics. I have FSX right now and although it is pretty good, I cannot lie, it is lacking some features that keep it from a true pilot sim (for example, no TCAS or weather radars). Also, I don't mean War Thunder type of "sims" but rather more realistic ones. I'm also interested in combat flight sims too, I have DCS, had it for about 2 years and still loving it! Anyway, input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi everyone! It's been a few days since I've been planning my first PC build, and would really like your advice to make sure everything goes as planned. The idea is to use this PC for flight simulation (X-Plane 10, possibly @ 3x 1080p sometime in the near future), some video editing, 3D CAD modeling in SolidWorks, and some gaming as well. As far as parts go, here's the PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hmVjhM - CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($286.88 @ OutletPC) - CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($28.75 @ OutletPC) - Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($129.99 @ Amazon) - Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($141.99 @ SuperBiiz) - Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($131.98 @ OutletPC) - Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($75.65 @ OutletPC) - Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card ($338.99 @ NCIX US) - Case: Cooler Master Silencio 652S ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.99 @ Micro Center) - Power Supply: SeaSonic 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($78.98 @ OutletPC) TOTAL: $1313.20 (budget would be $1500 / 1500€ max) As you can see I'm going for the non-K edition of the i7-4790 cause I don't plan to overclock it, and there's a much better deal with it at my "local" store in Barcelona: - i7-4790: http://www.framoiz.com/intel-core-i7-4790-665799-p.htm - i7-4790K: http://www.framoiz.com/cpu-intel-core-i7-4790k-706761-p.htm Do you think go for the -K version anyway? Also, for the SSD I'm still deciding between the 850 or the Kingston HyperX 3K, which has been recommended to me by the guy from the shop. Which one do you think is the better option? The case has also been suggested to me by the guy in the store, and uppon seeing it seems to be very solid for the price. I've seen they also sell the Corsair 230T, but I'm not sure whether it would be a better deal than the CM, as I haven't been able to see it in person. I don't mind if the computer's a bit noisy though, so what do you guys think would be the best choice? Finally, I've been told I should go for the GAMING edition of the GTX 970, but it seems to be more expensive than the "normal" one even though the design's very similar. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for all your comments, -- Pol P.S.: Not only am I planning my first PC build, but this is also my first post in the Forums, so well... all comments are welcome!

NCIX: http://bit.ly/1wZFe1P Amazon: http://geni.us/1stU The X55 Rhino, the top of the line flight sim accessory from Saitek, should provide a high quality flying experience for any flying game enthusaist. But does it? I guess there's only one way to find out...

Hi all, I have just build my first PC and really enjoyed it. I have viewed a lot videos online showcasing a whole bunch of people playing FSX and X plane. What really bugs me is that frame rates TANK with add in's and have been thinking of making a really out there and insane sim machine. I have a few ideas for example using a dual 2011 mother board maxing it out with RAM (64GB) etc. and with two high end graphics in there. I would like to have peoples take on a parts list as I would most likely have a sizable budget to play with. Ultimatly I would like to have a system which hopfully runs smoothly as Flight sims are very very graphic intensive.

in light of the pending release of the Star Citizen Dogfighting Module coming out imminently, I have been researching controls and supported peripherals. For those who do not know, H.O.T.A.S. stands for Hands On Throttle and Stick. Currently, the best hardware out is either the Thrustmaster Warthog, and the Saitek X-55 Rhino. There are some individual reviews from users out there, but I have not found one that compares the two systems. Thrustmaster has been in the flight sim industry for years. The Warthog definitely wins on build quality, but is more that twice as expensive ($500) than the X-55. Saitek recently released the X-55 (backorder in US and Canada) in what I believe is a bid to directly compete with the Warthog for the bristling new market of Star Citizen backers. Chris Roberts himself has endorsed this product, and Star Citizen will incorporate HOTAS support in game. http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/hotas-warthog http://www.saitek.com/x55/ Linus, Slick: THE CITIZENS NEED A COMPARISON REVIEW!! LinusTechTips Community: Please give any input you have from your personal experience with these two systems, specifically.

Hi peoples, I posted this in the Eyfinity Thread but I got no love, so i thought I would try this way. Im just trying to help a friend out with his gaming and I know bugger all about AMD. Could you please help me? His computer - CPU: AMD FX 6100 GPU: 2x 6970 Crossfired (MSI Computer Corporation R6970-2PM2D2GD5 Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5) MB: ASUS M5A97 Ram: 8gb Will this rig be able to power 4x LG 26" 1080p monitors at 60fps in eyefinity? He mainly plays flight sims. He has 3 monitors at the moment and wants a 4th and was wondering if it would work with his current setup, because if not he wont bother. Thanks and any help will be greatly appreciated !!!!
