"I am currently experiencing persistent issues with my Netgear R7000 router. To address these problems, I am looking for a new router that falls within a budget of around $250. The ideal router should support a large number of devices, including smart home devices like Amazon's Alexa and smart lights, as well as handle streaming activities seamlessly. My internet connection is provided by Verizon Fios with 1gb speed, and I use the Verizon CR1000A modem. On average, I have anywhere between 20 to 40 devices connected to the network, depending on whether I have guests over or not. My current Netgear R7000 is configured as an access point with Dynamic DNS turned off to allow the modem to assign IP addresses. However, despite trying various settings, the internet keeps cutting out on this router. Interestingly, my desktop, which is directly connected to the Verizon Router/Modem combo, experiences no such issues. Given the common issues associated with the Netgear R7000, I have decided to upgrade to a more suitable router. Any recommendations for a reliable router that meets my requirements would be greatly appreciated."

Ok so I have FIOS 500/500 plan. The modem is installed in my garage. From there the main internet line is in my office connected to my netgear x6s router. Key: 500mbps = 59.6 MB/second download speeds When I download games I get 25-30MB/second, which seemed off. So I unplugged my netgear router and tried the default router they gave me when they installed my service. All of sudden 50-60MB/seconds on BattleNet. Unplugged and replugged both router and did the test 3 times and same result. So went to the store bought and $300 netgear router (returned it today) and same result, slow speeds. So what the heck is going on? Note: please don’t say it’s the game servers. The tests were done literally five minutes apart multiple times.

I want to know what everyone's experiences have been like with Verizon fios. I have been avoiding doing business with them for close to a decade due to some royal fuck ups over the years (affected me personally), but now Charter bumped up my prices and now they are the same price as verizon for ~50mb down along with other issues in my neighborhood.

How do I put fios quantum router in bridge mode?
-
My problem is with using my Linksys E8500 and using the Verizon G1100 as a bridge for FIOS TV. I was able to get it to work just fine on Friday by releasing the DCHP lease, then plugging the cable from the ONT box to my router. I then changed the G1100's IP address to 192.168.5.1 and distribution range as the guide I read suggested to prevent interference with the router handing out LAN IPs in the same range as the G1100. Everything for FIOS TV works just fine doing this (except the mobile app for recording shows but I don't care) When I first did this everything worked just fine. I was getting a solid 850 down and 900ish up wired and a PC two rooms over from the router was getting 600+ down and 800 up on my E8500's 5GHZ WiFi. I noticed yesterday that now that Pc is only getting around 200 down and 150 up, while my wired connection from the E8500 is now getting 370 down and 200 up. I decided to test the incoming connection from the ONT box directly to verify I was getting the 800+ down and up speeds and sure enough, I was. I also plugged that cable into the G1100 to test that as well and I can get the full wired speeds from it. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with Verizon continuously renewing the DCHP lease, but since I'm no expert in networking I wanted to know what others more versed in this matter suggest.

Hello, all!First post on the forums, long time lurker, and faithful watcher of the youtube channels. I decided I needed to seek help since I can't find a solution to my problem anywhere.First a little background: I used to be an Optimum Online customer and I decided to upgrade to the new Verizon Fios "gigabit" package with TV and internet because 1. My bill was going to be considerably lower and 2. Faster speeds than what I was getting with Optimum (200/35).While I was on Optimum I was able to reach almost my full download speeds (about 180 to 195) over WiFi with no problem on all of my devices. After upgrading to Fios yesterday and setting my Linksys E8500 as the primary router and the Verizon G1100 as a bridge for the TV and the other features (yes, my FIOS DVR and guide is working perfectly) I'm unable to get anywhere near the speeds I'm paying for over my WiFi.I hooked up my office laptop to the router and the wired connection gets 850/950 speeds consistently, so there's nothing wrong on their end I'm assuming. But my brother's computer which is only 1 room away the router is only getting 600~/750~, my personal laptop in the same room as the router only gets about 300~/200~, my phone (Galaxy S8) in the same room gets about the same as the laptop, my gaming computer downstairs gets 150/170 while I have the Linksys Max-Stream AC19000+ plug in the same room to boost the 5 GHz signal (I get a 1.3 Gbps network connection) and without it I get 425/223 on an 877.5 Mbps network connection to the router, this is weird to me because with the range extender previously I was able to obtain 180~ download speeds all the time while using Optimum.I haven't changed any network settings on the router and all the devices are connected to the router at the same exact network speeds as they were during cable internet. I am at a complete lost and don't know why I'm not getting anywhere near the speeds I should be getting with devices that are more than capable of reaching those speeds. I understand that I will lose some speed due to the nature of WiFi, but I shouldn't be losing more than half of my download and upload speeds on several devices.Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys so here is my dilema. I just got Verizon FIOS at my home, coming from Time Warner. For those of you who don't know how FIOS works, a fiberline is fed to a reciever box called an ONT. The ONT takes in the fiber data and distributes it to all its various function. The ONT outputs, Internet, Phone, and TV, all in one box. So essentially it is the modem plus the other functions. Now with FIOS many of the TV functions are reliant on an internet connection, so what Verizon does is provide a router, that does as any wireless router does, there is a Ethernet hookup from the ONT to the Router's WAN port, and specifically for the Cable Boxes, there is a Coaxial out from the router that feeds into the coxial network so that the cable boxes can pull a data connection from the web. With my timewarner service I had the modem feed to my Edgerouter X, and then to all the clients. I did some research and I found that my Verizon router could be replaced with my own, so I figured I'd insert my edgerouter into the mix. So the FIOS Configuration is ONT(modem) --> Verizon Router ---> clients So what I tried todo was do ONT ---> ERX(LAN)--->Verizon Router (WAN), and according to a few forum posts this type of configuration (Where you provide put your own router in) should work. And as you might've guessed. It did not work. So I thought let me reset my ERX and start over. Reset my ERX, used the 2lan2 wizard so that eth0 is WAN, and eth1-4 is switch. And now my ERX appears to not be working anymore. 2lan2 was the configuration i used the first time I set it up, but i guess the new firmware might've screwed it up, given I know for a fact I did not have software version 1.9 on my ERX out of the box. What's happening with my ERX now is that it'll entirely stop responding once you hookup the WAN connection (WebGUI will not load off LAN). For the time being I was trying to give the ERX the WAN hookup via Verizon Router (Lan port) to the ERX, given the edgerouter, or any device rather seems to not take a internet connection directly from the ONT. As of right now I don't even want to permanently have my ERX on this network anymore, I just want to be working for future use, or even just to sell. Any tips? If anything is unclear or you need more info please let me know, I'd be happy to provide.

Could someone recommend a solution to my networking issue? My business's network seems to be having trouble keeping up, it seems to freeze every so often ever since I have added more devices to it. One or two sonos speakers seem to loose connection and stop playing every so often and internet connection on the iPad and computer seems to run a bit slow or freeze for a couple of seconds when loading something. I am wondering if I need a more powerful router (RT-AX88U, or two RT-AC68U with airmesh), faster internet speeds, or something else? Currently I have an FIOS 150/150, and a Asus RT-AC68U router with the following connected to it Wifi: 3 HD security cameras Ipad (register/sonos/nest a/c) 3 sonos speakers 3 android tablets receipt printer regular printer office computer Guest network (maybe 3-6 users at a time) Ethernet: 3 HD security cameras DVR (the cameras and dvr are connected through a switch than to the router)

First i want to disclose i am NO expert and have hardly any experience in this side of technology, although I am trying to learn more. I currently have Motorola's SBG6580 "Surfboard eXtreme Wireless Cable Modem Gateway." I purchased this product back in 2011 when I was living in the barracks while in the military. Now I have a house and i was using it for my Optimum IP internet services (internet only). I switched from Optimum to Verizon FIOS (now with TV and internet) and they wanted to sell me their 2-1 modem router combo. I thought i could use my Motorola SGB6580. But with Verizon using fiber optic apparently my setup is NOT compatible with FIOS. In order to have On demand TV and what not I can not use my modem. Does anyone have any recommendations as what products I can use in place of Verizon's (I do not want to rent their product)? In my house is just MYSELF and ONE other person. We do play games and stream Movies/ TV shows. so we would like decently quick speeds, Just not trying to burn a hole in my wallet. A 2 in 1 would be nice but if I should buy separate modems and routers so be it.

Hey peeps at LinusTechTips, I recently planned to move and I need new options for my internet services right now. I reside in New York City and I currently use Optimum Ultra50 for ~65. I understand that this price is pretty bad for just internet but I was going to move soon so I had no other options. I am currently looking into Verizon Fios DoublePlay for 50 as I dont require the free sports channnels and what not of Verizon TriplePlay. Although the TriplePlay is $65 and is 100 mbps upload/download I believe 50 mbps is enough? Also if anyone knows, can he/she tell me about the pricing regarding Verizon equipment fee's? Am i required to buy the box for $150 or rent it for $10? Or is it free if i sign contract/free if i sign up etc. Thanks.

Im an idiot when it comes to internet so please excuse my ignorance. I have verizon FIOS and I am wondering if it is possible to use two routers/modems at once (idk what you call them ive heard people who say it is a router/modem in one and others say FIOS doesnt use routers but im too stupid to have an opinion so lets call it a box) I want one box upstairs for wireless but I also want one downstairs so I dont have to link my desktop to wireless since I hate relying on wireless for some tasks but still use my laptop wireless (I hope I'm making sense here). Can someone tell me if this is possible to do and how? Thanks in advance!

Hello, I currently have an HP Proliant DL380 that I would like to turn into my primary router. I have been debating between SophosUTM or PfSense as well and simply looking for a great firewall. The current way my network is set up is imaged bellow. I simply do not know how to bridge the Actiontek router and setup SophosUTM or PfSense to work properly. Please help!

Hey guys, I am thinking of purchasing a VPN service due to Verizon completely throttling my YouTube Bandwidth. I am paying for a 50/25 connection speed and on my speed test.net results are usually 56/30 but my youtube videos buffer at 720p which is absurd. After watching the teksyndicate vid on how a VPN could be a solution I looked at 2 VPN sevices, HotSpot shield and private internet access. I was thinking of buying hotspot shield for a year because it is $10 cheaper and im a bit tight on money right now so I wanted to get someone elses opinion. How is HotSpot shield and is their a cheaper alternative. I would prefer any VPN to have unlimited bandwidth and have a monthly/yearly fee as if they went by how much data i use, i would end up paying a lot. Thanks.

When I setup my wireless network on my printer, it goes to a screen saying "Setting up..." and it sits there forever. It has been sitting for 10 minutes as of now, and I need the printer to print some documents. I am using an Actiontec MI424WR v1 for a router.

Hey guys, I'm trying to bridge the MI424WR router you get with Fios to my new ASUS-AC66U. I've been googling around for a while and have found some guides, most notably this one: http://goo.gl/ObWbgq But I get a hang up at step 14. It just says "Please wait while we apply settings" or something. Also, the firmware for mine is different than the one used in the example. Any help help would be appreciated. Specifics: -Actiontec MI424WR-Gen 2 Revition E -Firmware version 20.19.8

I want to use my own router with verizon fios but the router that verizon gives you is also the modem and without it TV won't work, so how can I use my own router (TP-Link Archer C7) using the verizon router as the modem.

Hey guys. So i was just watching a random youtube video when i noticed the video buffering about 20 seconds in on 360p quaility on youtube. I went on speedtest.net to check my speed to see if something was wrong but i got my regular result of about 60 down and around 30 up. My isp is Verizon fios and i live on the east coast. I went on my phone and brought up the same vid and the throttling happened again. I used my LTE data on my phone (from AT&T) and it worked perfectly. I usually have no issues watching 720p video from youtube but sometimes this does happen. Is verizon throttling my youtube bandwidth? or am i missing something? if there is any solution you can think of it will be appreciated. Here is a speedtest i did at the time of the vid buffering:

I will be moving soon and I can finally get FiOS and I wanted to ask you Gurus whether I should go with Verizon or Comcast, which is faster, pros and cons of both, etc. I am looking for the best/fastest up/down I can get. Any information is always appreciated. Thanks!
