I recently entered the HomeLabs rabbit hole after deciding that I needed a password manager. I ended up choosing to selfhost Bitwarden\_rs so I could also offer the service to my less techy friends and family with whom I share passwords. Since I was setting that up I decided I might as well start hosting other services. All of this is currently being run on an old HP envy: |CPU| i7 8 core 2.4Ghz| |Ram| 8Gb| |Network| 1 x RJ45 and 1 X Wireless| |Storage| Crucial CT525MX3 512GB| I have 100Mbps down and 10Mpbs up. (This is the max my IPS gives in my region). It enters the house through a plain modem box. The public IP is assigned to my D-Link Router (New of this year. Has all the features I need *See note*) The router has a virtual server feature that forwards the required ports 443, 80 to my ubuntu server. My current network map looks something like this: Current Network Map I'm looking for help in figuring out the "most secure" network path to enable the server to be internet facing while keeping the server data safe as well as the rest of my network clients. If the This is the future network map I'm looking to implement. Possible Future Network Map Notable changes are the moving the Server to a Proxmox VM and creating and opensense firewall running in VM. To make this happen I would need to by a USB to RJ45 Jack to add a NIC to the Laptop. The biggest problem I see from this set up is running out of computer resources to run Proxmox, Ubuntu and Opensense. Another option would be to add an old router running DD-WRT infront of the D-Link to create a DMZ for the server to live in. I need the D-Link to get Wi-Fi coverage over my whole house. Ideally, I would like to limit the forward facing ports on my network. limiting everything to 443 and 80 to run everything through the reverse proxy if possible. I'm looking for the capability to run other webservices (DnD VTT, Homeassistant, ext). I'm open to adding more hardware in the long term. But right now am looking to learn and try things out as much as possible with hardware I have around the house. I already have a personal domain pointing towards my home network and associated to a DDNS. The client for this is currently on my D-Link router. At the end of the day I'm looking for any suggestions on steps to take to move from the current setup, or if I'm making the whole thing to complicated. If the answer is the D-link router + a firewall (UFW currently) on the server is good enough. Thank you very much for your help. I've tired to include as much detail as I can currently have and will add any I can and as requested. TLDR: I've recently set up an old laptop as a homelab. I'm looking for help in setting up the security of the server and my LAN. Note: The D-link router is currently working great. It has all the features I need, DCHP, DDNS support, virtual server. It's only issue is it only supports L2TP over IPSec as a vpn and I am unsure of the "Security" of its Firewall/Firmware. The plan is currently to just bypass it and run a Wireguard VPN on the ubuntu server.

Just wondering if anyone might have experienced anything similar to the issue I'm seeing, as my Google Fu has failed me thus far. Essentially, all of my iOS devices (and only these devices) have bouts of being unable to connect to my D-Link router. Details for all iOS devices and router are below. The only 'abnormal' thing seen from the iOS devices (aside from the failed connections and obtaining a 169.x.x.x IP) is the complaint about weak security. Sadly, the only two options for my router are NO security or WPA/WPA2-Personal. The latter is what is configured on my router. All of my searches have come to the same sets of troubleshooting steps (listed below) and none have had any lasting effect. Disable Smart Connect / Give each SSID a different name - Issue was seen with option enabled and disabled Disabled IPv6 - Issue seen with it disabled and disabled Reset Network Settings on iOS device - no effect when this is done Checking the System Log on the router, it is full of this message. And I mean FULL. Based on that, and limited useful (to me) info found when searching, I've tried: manually adding Google DNS, enabling/disabling DNS relay - still no love. 2021-10-06 13:34:33 syslog: dnssd_clientstub ConnectToServer: connect() failed path:/var/run/mdnsd Socket:27 Err:-1 Errno:0 Success 2021-10-06 13:34:33 syslog: dnssd_clientstub DNSServiceRefDeallocate called with NULL DNSServiceRef 2021-10-06 13:34:36 syslog: dnssd_clientstub ConnectToServer: connect()-> No of tries: 1 2021-10-06 13:34:37 syslog: dnssd_clientstub ConnectToServer: connect()-> No of tries: 2 2021-10-06 13:34:38 syslog: dnssd_clientstub ConnectToServer: connect()-> No of tries: 3 Considering the consistency of the above, I can't say for sure that it's related to the iOS device issues, as those seem to happen at random times. When it does happen, though, ALL of the iOS devices in the household stop connecting... A router reboot seems to be the only thing that resolves the issue. iOS Device Details iPhone 11 (iOS 15) iPad Pro 12.9 4th Gen (iPadOS 15) iPad Pro 11 (iPadOS 14) Router Details Model Name: DIR-2640 Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version: 1.11 So, anyone run into a similar situation? The only thing I have not tried is custom FW on the router, but it's looking more and more likely to be my next step...

I have a D-Link DIR-859 and even though I'm getting my 500Mbps service from the ethernet ports on my router I can't get more than 30Mbps through wifi. The throughput of the router is 1300Mbps for 5Ghz, my M1 MacBook Air has 1200Mbps, iPhone XR 1300, granted that these numbers are for in an ideal environment but shouldn't I still be seeing higher numbers? The router and devices are in line of sight and about 10ft from each other, and nothing in between them. I feel like I'm spinning my tires with this, even went as far as to reset the router. Any thoughts and ideas would be awesome!

I updated DIR-600 firmware to DD-WRT to be able to use it as a repeater. After I applied changes, it logged out, and the power light turned into a solid orange permanently. Tried to recover it by the reset button, no use. It seems the router is dead. I've tried many reset button methods to solve this. Not even a change on it has happened. I download DD-WRT from its official site. I installed "dlink-dir600b-factory-webflash.bin". Not even the "Recovery Mode" worked. Don't know what else to do. Have any ideas, please?

I have this D-link DNS-1550-04 that's in need of some attention. It just boots to the login prompt (with a slax boot menu swooshing by quickly). There is a usb recovery guide but as the machine didn't come with any drives at all I'm scratching my head as to how I am to proceed in order to make it useable again. How do I install the system on it? There's currently 2x500gb and a 250gb drive in it for testing right now.

Simple question, on a dlink router how do I disable routing but keep Wi-Fi? If possible. There is a main wifi router and then this one connected In another side of the house. They have 192.168.1.x on the main and 192.168.0.x on the secondary. Can I make it so the main assigns all the addresses? So there all ...168.1.x

My gf’s computer has not got cables internet yet but she has a wireless card the “D-Link dwa-582” but it has some issues or something, the internet is suddenly disconnected and it says the internet is hidden when I try to reconnect, it ha said that it is dns issues. I tried the reset button on the router and it worked for a day, now every time I am here I have to do that every morning until today where whatever I do it stops working after 5 min. Sorry for bad English so hope it makes sense to you, thanks in advance<3 edit: everything else in the house works and I’m pretty sure it ain’t a range problem because her Samsung tv is further away and streams 4k

So I have just set up a new internet connection I’m Victoria in my new residence. The install went fine and all the internet is working. All apps and programs run perfectly on the new internet. Now here’s the weird problem. I can go on Instagram and use it, but I cannot like pictures or comment on pictures. Whenever I try a pop up occurs saying “link not allowed”. And then says there is a link Instagram doesn’t like in my bio. However there is no link in my bio, just my name only, and this problem occurs with everyone who comes and try’s that. But only on phones. It works perfectly fine on computers. I’ve checked the firewall and protection setting s on the router and they all allow everything. So I’m confused as to what could be stopping that. Any ideas or help would be useful. Cheers!

Greetings. Ever since I plugged my Wi-Fi range extender (D-Link DAP 1325) via an ethernet cable I've been getting an error that says: "Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource (www.microsoft.com) is not responding." I get that error every, let's say 15-20 minutes each day. I can troubleshoot it, but only for those 15-20 minutes. It can get really annoying. I have tried multiple solutions, but none helped. I've tried restarting the device when the error occurred, nothing. I've tried some CMD commands (ipconfig flushdns, netsh int ip reset something something), I've tried setting the device to it's factory settings, I've tried a different cable yet, nothing. I really hope someone out here can help me with this damn problem. Sincerely, geegs P.S Recently I have noticed that this error does not affect all applications. It usually affects my browser, discord and TF2.

I'm using a DLink DWA-131 on my PC, and I'm trying to connect to my house's WiFi, but whenever I try, it says "Can't connect to network". The drivers are up to date. However, when I try to connect to my phone's hotspot, it works. How do I fix this?

So in my hunt for a switch to fit INSIDE my media panel (Max width is 14.25") I have narrowed down my choices to these two. I've never used Netgear's or D-Link's web management software and its not even really something I need but out of the two which would you choose? Netgear ProSAFE (JGS524PE) D-Link DGS-1100-24P Two other choices would be these Cisco's but I don't like that they don't have POe. Cisco WS-C2960L-16TS-LL Cisco SG112-24

Hey guys, So currently my router is not only downstairs from my pc, but on the complete opposite end of the house. The landlord doesn't wan't an ethernet cable running the stairs...totally understandable. I'm gaming while also streaming the game to Twitch and I need someone way to improve my internet connection. That's when I found the Powerline Adapters. I want to get one and test it out. Which one however would provide the best connection for not only gaming but also streaming at the same time. But this is a 3 fold question (nothing is ever easy) 1. I've read that using a powerline adapter completely takes over any adapter, but there are some that don't, i would need one that doesn't take over the entire wall outlet. 2. I've also read that both Powerline Adapters need to be running on thew same circuit, How can I test which circuits are connected. For instance, a downstairs living room and and upstairs room (complete opposite side of the house) 3. What is the major difference between the Powerline Adapters and the DLink Adapters? I'm not looking to spend more than $100 unfortunately...yet! Any and all information would be very beneficial and greatly appreciated!

I have a d-link router and I use windows 10. I am on ethernet and I would like to change my ip address. I was following this video but at 2:25 ish when he is finding the dns server, my stuff doesn't look like that at all. It says this: DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:558:feed::1 2001:558:feed::2 75.75.75.75 75.75.76.76 I don't know what is happening. Thanks for any help!

So I have a D-Link WBR 1310 router laying around, and I was wondering if there is a way to get dd-wrt or another alternate OS onto it. Its not on the router list of dd-wrt, and I don't know if its broadcom based for Tomato. Is there way to get another OS onto it? With the latest dlink firmware on it, the date doesn't even go past 2012... I'm wondering if there is still a use for it. Will any alternate OS work on it? If so, which ones? Thanks!

I've got a DLink DIR 815 (http://support.dlink.ca/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-815) wireless router and I'm constantly needing to reboot the router, on average 2-3 times each evening after work. I was wondering if anyone's got any ideas as to why this can be happening? I live in the middle of the country so there's definitely no interference from the neighbors. The router just seems to stop accepting all traffic, yet a reboot always fixes it. The router is no longer accessible via it's web interface either and windows shows a yellow triangle over the wireless symbol. All connections to the router are wireless and there's approximately 10 devices connected. Hopefully someone may have a solution to this otherwise which routers would you recommend for an all wireless environment that is in the 100$-150$ range?
