Hi everyone! I'm struggling with some PowerShell script I'm making and I just can't get it to run through everything. So the idea is to import a CSV with the headers and referencing information as below: UserProfileName, ObjectID, Company, CountryOrRegion, Department, Title, Manager, ManagerObjectID I've made the below Powershell script based on the CSV headers: Connect-AzureAD # Get CSV content $CSVrecords = Import-Csv "C:\Book2.csv" -Delimiter "," # Create arrays for skipped and failed users $SkippedUsers = @() $FailedUsers = @() # Loop trough CSV records foreach ($CSVrecord in $CSVrecords) { $upn = $CSVrecord.UserPrincipalName $user = Get-AzureADUser -Filter $UserPrincipalName if ($user) { try{ $user | Set-AzureADUser -Company $CSVrecord.Company -Country $CSVrecords.CountryOrRegion -Department $CSVrecords.Department -Title $CSVrecords.Title Set-AzureADUserManager -ObjectId $CSVrecord.ObjectID -RefObjectId $CSVrecord.ManagerID } catch { $FailedUsers += $upnC Write-Warning "$upn user found, but FAILED to update." } } else { Write-Warning "$upn not found, skipped" $SkippedUsers += $upn } } # Array skipped users # $SkippedUsers # Array failed users # $FailedUsers I'm getting a failure where it picks up the user but fails to update them. Now I'm thinking It's the part I've highlighted in Blue that might be causing the issues... any help certainly welcome!

plex Help request - First time Plex media setup
Dr.Sedo posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Hello hello, As I said in the title, I'm setting up a plex media server for the first time. Installation went well and I can access my files no problem. The software does a great job of filling posters and metadata and all that stuff for both a library of movies and one for TV shows. I'm using it from my Mac pro only to use on my TV, both connected to the router and i don't plan to stream through the internet. I want to make another library (not for pron) where I use the Tv series library setting so I can divide content I have into Artist(as show), Season(as genre/topic) and episode(as specific video). I tried using the 'Other videos' setting but I really didn't like the UI for it since I couldn't find a way to set thumbnails for folders and such and it just wasn't well catalogued. I've been trying to use the 'Plex series scanner' and the 'Personal media shows' agent. So my issue is that I'm trying to change the name of the Seasons to something else, (e.g., change 'season 1' for 'hugs'), as well as change the name of episodes for something else (e.g.. change 'episode 1' to 'I love hugging my bf'). The name of the show is pretty straight forward since its just the name of the folder it's in but I can't for the life of me manage to change the seasons and episodes so it shows titles instead of just 'season 1' and such. Is there a way to integrate these titles into the file structure? or maybe into the filenames themselves? Or is there another setting I'm missing where i could achieve this? Please, any help or tips would be appreciated. Thanks guys!! <edited to include info and spelling- 2 replies

Hello, I wish to create an automatically updating flowchart from my folders. There is a lot of them so I wish to avoid having to manually enter them into MS visio or something. I wish to do this so that I could better document and navigate my folders, files and what is in them. If it matters, they are on a network drive btw. Is there any software that would allow me to do this?

In my organization, we have one computer that is on our Active Directory, but whenever a user logs in, it fails to login and says that it failed to login, and it created a temporary account. Is there a way to stop it from doing this, preferably without having to reimage it?

So about a month ago I built my first pc which has a 256gb ssd and a 3tb hard drive in raid one with another one. I installed windows and everything on my ssd but that means that all of the libraries were also be stored there including the photos and documents etc. I wanted to move them off my ssd into my hard drives. The reason I wanted to move them was because I wanted to back up my iphone and to export its photos into the photos app on my desktop. I know how to do this but my ssd wouldn't have enough space if I did so I needed to move the photos application off the ssd. I did this by right clicking photos for example, then I went to the properties and then the location then changed it so that it went to my hard drive. I did this to all my library except for the documents and one drive. I have two things that went wrong when moving them. Firstly, now when I open the photos application it tells me that I need to add photos which I know used to work before I moved it. I prompts me to tell it where to find them, and when I do that it then tells me that there are no readable files or folders there, which I know used to work. Secondly in the process of moving the contacts I managed to replace my entire folder with the contacts folder so now all of my library contents are within the contacts folder itself.I read into restoring windows to default which would reset windows and that it would actually keep all of my files, but I am worried that it might still lose them which would be pretty bad as it already doesn't know what it is.I am extremely lost and could really use some help. Thanks in advance!

linux cd command not working
littlepigboy5 posted a topic in Linux, macOS and Everything Not-Windows
I attatched a snippet of the error below. Basically I am in a folder and I use "ls" to check the name of the next folder I want to enter. It is clearly there, but when I use CD to get to it, it says "Not a directory". What is happening? -
Simply, every time I launch the bash shell I want it to automaticlly launch me in a directory of my choosing. I understand you first have to mount a drive using the cd/mnt/(drive) command. But I would like to automate this process to a full directory path. I did try to start a shell script but i'm not really sure what i'm doing: #!/bin/bash cd /mnt/e/Personal/Academic/DMU/Year_2/CTEC2901/Exercises If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.

Hi. Sorry if the title wasn't explicit enough. I want to turn a directory tree that I know is like this: main |-folder1 | |-file1.extension | |-file2.extension | |-folder2 |-file3.extension |-file4.extension Into a text file with this: dir main/ dir main/folder1/ fil index main/folder1/file1.extension fil index main/folder1/file2.extension dir main/folder2/ fil index main/folder2/file3.extension fil index main/folder2/file4.extension The point of this is to do caching, I'm using inotify, but it doesn't work recursively, so I need to add each directory (or file, I haven't decided yet, but probably, because then I can immediately know it's index) to it's watch list. So I'd like all the directories and files (then again, maybe just the files) listed inside a text file, so that when the server starts, I can just loop load all those into inotify, and know exactly when a file is changed, created or deleted, to change, create or delete it's e-tag in the database. But I have no idea how to even get the list of files/directories inside a directory. I've read about getting the result from ls, but then how do I even get inside that directory from a c++ program, or how do I know it's even a file(I could try and ifstream.open but I feel there must be a better way)? I need a direction here. Thank you.

Just like how you can change where in the filesystem you can install individual apps and games on Windows, I want to know if it is possible on Linux and how. Let's say I am using a PC with two SSD's - one small one for booting up the OS and a larger one for storage. I'd like to use up as little space as possible in the OS drive to preserve its lifespan and thus use the larger one to access all my apps and, if possible, share them between different distros if I decide to install a new one into the OS drive to make a multi-boot system. How does that sound?

Hello, I don't know wether I should be posting this here or in the Software thread, but I guess it makes more sense here. I've recently got a new SSD for my computer, since it was taking sometimes up to 5 minutes to boot and then another 5 to read everything on start-up. Problem is, once I booted, I soon realised that the process from moving to a HDD to a SSD wasn't that simple. I created a new user, tried to make it as close to the old one as possible, as I didn't know wether you could "import" users into the SSD without taking up all the ssd's space (for example having all my apps and prgrams on my desktop as I used to, without having to put them on the SSD). After this I tried to run Ableton Live (a music production program) and it wouldnt let me, and I figured it would be because of all the directory issues that could be happening. So, I have 2 questions: 1- Is there anyway of "importing" users to the SSD, assuring the fastest reading speed throughout Windows, but maintaining all my files on the HDD? 2- If not, how can I use apps that were once installed on the HDD (and I suppose they still are) without having to reinstall them on the SSD? I wondered if I could just create a shortcut on my desktop that would lead me into the installed program, but it shows me "can't run because mfc120u.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program could fix this problem" Thank you!

Hello! ^^ I need to write a simple code to copy files from one folder to another. Sounds simple, huh? However I don't know how to open folders without writing the exact path For example I have such folers -MainFolder -123ab -messages -Files I need -logs -123cd -messages -Files I need -logs -246bgs4 -messages -Files I need -logs I think you got it) So i need to run my .exe from the MainFolder and copy all files from messages BUT I don't know, how to open folder 123ab and such, because there are hundreds of them and there will be more and every has its unique name. How do I open folders if I don't know their name? Hope you understood me)

Hi, so basically at the moment i'm testing out a few windows server features such as Active Directory, WDS and MDT. As you may or may not know Active Directory requires the same server to have its own DNS and DHCP. Recently as i have a domain and setup i believe its to do with PXE in deployment bench as seen in the screenshot here (https://gyazo.com/83d8ef9c4f8fd8abdd9f881244d6a6c2). Since if i startup a new machine i want it to just to be able to connect to the network and see PXE without having to approve it etc. So my question is how can i stop other devices on and joining my network e.g my phone being effect by this DHCP? Since when DHCP hands out the info the DNS is set to be the server and not a DNS like 8.8.8.8. Also i was wondering if there was a program that you can run virtual machines but have them all kind of trapped in there own network but have internet access?

Greetings. I'm new to steam, and just installed it to avail the deal they have on Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum Suite. However, I couldn't help but notice that its default directory was in 'C:\Program Files (x86). Out of curiosity, does this affect program functionality at all? All of the other x64 software I have autoinstalled to either the main 'Program Files' directory or right onto my 'C' drive. Regards, Aereldor.

Hi guys, I've been shot down in flames by unhelpful people in other forums - I'm new here so hopefully this one is a bit friendlier! I'm setting up a website that keeps a directory of trustworthy businesses in my town, we've had great success with our Facebook page so thought it was time to set a website up as well. One of the members of the team manages content but has no knowledge of HTML or CSS, so needs a graphical way to update the "listings" on this site. Does anyone know of a CMS that is embeddable into an existing HTML/CSS site, allows for the creation of "listings" and has a graphical back end so that edits to content can be made by non-techies? I know this is probably quite a tall order! Many thanks, Ollie

I have a 250GB ssd as my main drive and since its housing my OS, x86 files, some apps and its already almost full. And thats pretty crazy since I juste finished building this PC about two weeks ago... So my question is: Can I select what steam games I install on the ssd (my most played games) and what games I install on my 1TB hard drive? For example Im fine with having CS:GO and CoD: BO 3 on my ssd but games like half life(even tho its not very big) and GTA 4 on my secondary hard drive... The point is how can I choose where games are installed from steam? And yes, I do have a "SteamLibrary" in my secondary drive.

I upgraded my Surface Pro from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 recently. I had my user folders (documents, photos, videos, etc.) set to the D drive in Windows 8.1. When I upgraded to Win10, it seemed like my user folders where either returned to their default location or moved to somewhere else entirely. There was also a user name folder created and it has docs, music, photos, etc. in it. I want to know how I could return the folders to their default locations that way I could set up the folders exactly where I want them to be within the d drive. Or is there an eaiser way for me to consolidate everything into a new set of Document, photo, etc folders?

Until now I have been installing my programs in the default directory which is usually Program Files or Program Files (x86). I would like to install the to a different folder and just organize them in a way I like. For example (with, lets say, Aida64): F:/Programs/Diagnostics/Aida64/ I just want to make sure that this will not cause any compatibility issues or problems in general with the programs. I will of course still install the programs to that location normally and setup necessary paths. Thanks A Lot! Sudo Chocolate

hello, so my ZyXel P8702N has a NAS feature that allows me to just connect a drive to the router via USB and share files using it. i have run into some issues trying to set specific directories for my family to use- i.e. i am unable to set specific directories to allow only a certain user to access i was able to set the main directory and have my user only be able to access it, but when i tried using a different one (\\10.0.0.138\usb1_1\Johannes i even tried .\Johannes), but when i click add it just removes all shared directories from the list. any help would be appreciated EDIT: when i use the "choose directory" button i only see the root as an option EDITEDIT: the router is stupid, it still adds the directories, but the list is bugged

Let me just preface this by saying, I've already typed a lot of this and my pinky hit a button causing this text box to be de-selected. I was hitting the backspace key as I did that. I now get to retype a good chunk of text. I hope you'll forgive me if at any point I come across as wanting to kill something, like perhaps murder a carrot. Edit: I found out after retyping what I had lost that there is save functionality. Goldurn. So, this story begins fairly recently. There was a Windows Update on Wednesday the 14th. I believe this is where my story starts, however this first issue may well have started Wednesday morning before the application of the update. Please be wary of this inconsistency. Issue #1 Anyhow, this first issue starts as such. Recently I have set my computer to hibernate instead of shutting down because it loads much faster. Normally this works beautifully. Recently it has instead resulted in a myriad of issues when I wake my computer. So, I turn my computer on and it supposedly loads from where it left off, which was having a couple of tabs open in Google Chrome. I start my day's browsing by opening up a series of new tabs to check my beloved webcomics of the day. If I recall correctly these tabs simply never did load. They hung indefinitely. During this period I also go to open Microsoft Outlook. So, I see Microsoft Outlook load and start downloading emails. I check them, and move on back to my browser to try and figure out why it's not working. Many refreshes later and looking in the networking center I find no reason why it shouldn't be working. Networking is saying that it is connected both to my dinky 100mbps switch and my 300 mbps wifi. Dafuq? Anyways, I exit Chrome at some point and notice that Outlook has stopped responding. I end the program. At some point I opened Internet Explorer and it never even did fully load the User Interface (UI). At this point I'm starting to think that my system may have been penetrated by something malicious. First thought and action? Open Avast Anti Virus. Again, the UI never fully loads. That scared me because it wasn't even a freaking browser. Next step? Run Malwarebytes. The UI loads. I click the "run scan" button. It wants to update the data base. I know it won't be able to connect so I just click the "Skip Update" button. It did not acknowledge that it was a button or that I was clicking it. It just hung there trying to update its database. Next step, restart the computer. At some point I believe I managed to get to speedtest.net with google chrome, speeds were abismal. 7 Mbps down, less than 700 Kbps up. Connectivity existed, just was barely functional. Internet should be 7 Megabytes (not bits) down and 1-2 Megabytes (not bits) up. Other devices were at proper speeds. Issue #2 Today I had the computer in hibernate last night, and went to turn it on. Similar internet connectivity issues. Wisened up and just restarted from the get-go. Issue #3 So recently I've been wanting to move my operating system over from my mechanical drive to my Corsair Neutron GTX ssd. The hard drive has more space, and was holding more data than the sdd had space. This means I've had to move stuff off of there. I started this a week and a half ago, originally just removing programs and moving files from places they had built up to my 3TB seagate external drive. I was using WindirStat to help me find the places with the most data. Originally it did not have any discrepancies with Windows Explorer. No differences in terms of space used were emerging. They were reporting the same thing whenever they were refreshed. So, I decided to continue making space today. This included moving 20 GB of music off of my (C;) drive to my Seagate drive. It was going swimmingly. Files were moving reasonably fast and WindirStat was making me proud by telling me that there was less and less data. I then at some point went into widows explorer and noticed that it was still around 240 GB used (it was slightly north of that, and it has moved by small amounts up and down throughout the day, just I don't know by how much and when). Needless to say, I was alarmed. Moving 40 GB of stuff made around 10 GB difference. (Or perhaps less again, amounts are unknown. I wasn't religious about this). I then went on to see if maybe I had mis-remembered the amount of data I had started with. I went on to move some movie content and delete old IOS apps on Itunes. According to Winderstat I had moved a significant amount of data. Again, Windows explorer begged to differ. Fudge nutters. Issue #3 In what may have been fatal foolishness I went and right clicked the (C:) drive and clicked properties from the right click menu. I then went to disk cleanup (at the bottom right of the pie chart). It told me with a straight and honest face, that it could clear away a whole 60 GB of temporary files. First thought? HALLELUJAH! I'VE FOUND THE SACRED BUTTON! Guess what? According to Windows Explorer it may have done jack all. I may have accidentally interrupted it (I totally did) when I went to go do the same thing at the same time to the SSD (F:). This may have been a bad idea. So, I went and opened up the menu again, and guess what? It takes a couple times to get it to open again. Wasn't working at first. Eventually it works. Guess what? It says it now has around 53 or 58 GB of space from temporary files it can delete. After a little bit of user error I managed to run it correctly again. Windows Explorer is still not saying that there is any difference in data. Fudge. I forget when, but at some point earlier today (morningish) I was made to restart the computer. It did not restart properly. It was a basic Windows XP looking menu about how it needed to fix an issue with Windows. It said it could not fix the issue automatically, but when I restarted it Windows booted nicely. I also had an issue at one point where it was saying that the built in disc defragmenter was not installed. I got a menu telling me to go to the control panel and click "install programs". No such menu was showing up at that point in time. Issue #4 Today Microsoft released another Windows 7 update. I updated. Now, this update does not seem to have affected the previous issue. In fact, I am at a point where Windirstat reports 120 GB even and Explorer is reporting twice that, give or take 3 GB depending on the last disk cleanup and any other stuff it does. So, I after this update, I've notices that windows does not want to load certain programs. Even if I go to the location of the EXE, and I click that one directly, it will spit out an error saying the file can't be found. I can not run Windirstat as Admin, only normally. I can't get DXtory to work either way. Some things in Explorer don't work, like trying to get to the Uninstall programs menu. The button can be clicked but I see no disk activity when I click it, or some other buttons. At this point the only reason I haven't nuked it is because I don't want to lose my beloved Winamp Pro. With the service that allows me to activate Winamp Pro being down, nuking this computer will make me lose it potentially forever. Please Help. SOS. Will smooch if you can fix.

This week I finished up my new gaming rig and steam has been giving me issues. steam is installed on my boot SSD and hence the default game install directory is on it. I created a second directory on my mass storage raid 1 array which worked well. the problem arises every time I restart the machine, as steam forgets the second directory exists. I remind it and I can play my games, but it is very annoying. any ideas with this one? also if someone knows how to make steam actually remember my password that would also help me out.

Hello everyone! I have Origin primarily for BF4 which I have installed on my SSD. However I bought some other games now and I want to install them on my HDD but at the same time keep BF4 on my SSD. How can I do this ? On steam there is a option before downloading that asks you where to install the game. But in Origin there's nothing... Any help will be appreciated!

Hi guys, I'm going to try and keep this simple as possible. We have 3 Domain Controllers, 2 File Servers, and a few other servers that individually handle certain services. Now, up until Tuesday of this week, AFAWK (W=we), users (non-administrators/IT, aka general users) have not been able to log into the above mentioned servers via Remote Desktop. But now they can. And no one changed anything. I wasn't here, and I'm the one who manages them on a day to day basis. They have been able to access shares (as they should be able to) however. The way we realized they could access it with just their personal username/password was because, while logging into one, it listed every user logged into the server. And it was pretty much a list of every single user we have. This has never been the case. And the only logical reason (I could come up with, being inexperienced) that would be is if it treated shares that way (i.e. if you were connected via a share, it listed you there) even though, again, that's never been the case. So we disabled Remote Desktop until we can figure out what is up with that. The even weirder part is that it asks us, IT, for credentials when signing into said servers via remote desktop, but it doesn't ask general users for them. Even though we are part of the Domain Admins group, and no one else is. How does that even work? So, in light of all that, and the fact that I'm inexperienced in managing permissions on a domain (as are my co-workers, to be honest), and the fact that only 1 of us knows how the domain was constructed since he did it, but it's never worked correctly anyway (I don't blame him for this for varying reasons.), so I can't just trust that things are setup correctly anyway. But I can't tear the whole thing down and start over because that'd require disabling everyone's ability to work for a weekend without guaranteeing that I will do things right (or whoever will do it). And I only know how to edit permissions for shares, and manage what groups people are in, but I don't know how to manage who can log into what computers. I'd assume this is done from the Active Directory Users and Groups under Computers, but I have yet to find anything that specifically looks like it's causing the "Anyone can log in" problem. I know having Authenticated Users in permissions is an issue since that's basically everyone logged into a Domain (so long as they have credentials as a user on that domain), and most shares I've seen automatically have that (i.e. everyone has access to it), but I haven't seen that in the Computers section of the AD Users and Groups under Computers. Where do I even begin to troubleshoot this? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius.

Hi guys, Don't feel you need to answer all the questions. Any question you can help me with or advice you can give would be much appreciated. My workplace is planning on moving our employees over to Roaming Profiles at some point (where the profiles are on server and all computers on the network use the profiles there to log in, so it doesn't matter what PC you are on, you have all your things), and tbh we haven't dealt much with it. My supervisor has been toying with it and researching how to set things up and get it working, and I've been doing the same recently. I discovered that by way of Group Policy Management, I can basically set it up to where, when someone logs on to a new computer, their profile will download and it will give them everything they need/want. Their files/folders (Documents, Music, Downloads, Desktop, etc) will all be living on the server. They will never connect to it by way of Wifi or remotely (WAN) and only by Ethernet (LAN), so speed isn't a concern. One thing to keep in mind: All of our users, except for 3, are on Windows 7 Professional. 2 of those 3 are on Windows XP (due to legacy reasons), and the last one is on an iMac (the boss loves his Macs). All of our Servers and Domain Controllers are Windows 2008 Server Enterprise edition. How do I link a Group Policy to a Group? I have created a Group Policy to test with that has 1 of everything I want to be using (Applications, files, folders, Data Base connections, things like that), but I have yet to figure out how to link that to a Group. I have a Group with a Testing account in it. I'm just missing the part where I connect the two to where, when I log into the account, all of the Group Policy settings will take effect and the Profile will be a Roaming one. What is the easiest way to turn a .exe into a .msi package? I am very wary of online file format conversion (or package conversion in this case) tools. Too much uncertainty in regards to virus', malware, spyware, etc. I'll be using the .msi packages, once I make them, to update their programs and give new ones as time goes on. For those with experience with this, what advice do you have in how I should set this up? Basically, at first I was making a single policy with everything anyone could ever use and was going to say "Ok, this user gets these things and the rest don't.", like that. Then I realized how much a pain in the butt that would be to manage as it took 5 clicks and some typing to give a single user one "thing" (file, folder, drive, application, wtv). Now do that 50 times with 50 items. LOL NO. So, then I realized it would be better to have one generic policy (that covered everything everyone would need), and multiple unique policies based on department. Then I could just attach 2 policies to a single group, if that is even possible. I assume it is. Not sure if there is a more efficient way. We have around 50 employees in total right now and are going to be expanding in the near future (20 more people roughly), so ease of use is paramount to give us time to do other things. Lastly, how can I set a user to be able to write to a file, but not delete it? Basically, we are going to be using an intranet communication software. It will keep a history of their logs (for obvious reasons), which I want to allow to update, but not be deleted, and a copy to be kept on the server which will update either when the file gets bigger (i.e. more messages have been sent), or a new one is made (i.e. they empty it, which is against our policies, and it starts to fill up again). I can't come up with an elegant way to do that. *sigh* I am very adamant about using Group Policy to make Roaming Profiles (as long as that is the best way). My current method of updating user's ... well ... anything is to set a task in their task scheduler to run a Batch File that lives on a network drive that everyone has access to. This is not optimal at all. It barely gets by. Very very ghetto. Group Policy is basically the GUI version of what I want (mass updates for everyone, a centralized point where anyone can go to fix things, etc), which is epic. Thanks for any help you can offer, Vitalius
