Hello, I need help transferring data from my old SSD to the new SSD. ok so this is my plan: I am going to buy a WD_Black 1TB SSD, and I am going to transfer my data to it. (Bootable data like Windows 10) via an SSD enclosure. Then change the old SSD with the new one. Then format the old SSD. The only problem I have is that I don't know how to transfer data like Windows 10 and other essential bootable software to the new drive. Can anyone help?

Someone brought me two laptops. The old one had Win 10 and a spinning HDD. The new one had Win 11 and a NVMe. Both laptops were using the same Microsoft user account. This person wanted their personal data transferred from the old to the new. I took the HDD out of the old one and used a USB to SATA adapter to connect it to the new one. I went to the user folder on the old drive and of course Windows wants to add permissions to the folders before I could go any further so I told it to go ahead and do that. Then I used Robocopy to copy over the files from the old drive to the new drive. After that was done I put the old HDD back in the laptop and powered it on. During boot Chkdsk started for some reason. I walked away from it while waiting and didn't see if there were any results. Then Windows started up but I got a message saying Preparing Windows and then it put me in a temporary user profile. Looks like the Microsoft account on the old laptop was corrupted somehow. I tried running SFC and DISM to fix it but that didn't work. I could get back in to the Microsoft account if I started Windows in Safe mode but then the Start menu didn't work right plus a few other odd things and restating in regular mode still resulted in me getting a temporary profile. Just a note.. when I was doing the file transfer I saw multiple TEMP folders in the Users folder on the old drive suggesting this has happened before on the old laptop but was temporary. Though this last time it seems to have stuck. I also tried following this guide to fix it but that didn't work out. I'm wondering, did I somehow screw this up because the same Microsoft account was being used on both computers? I've done data transfers this way before and had no issues but this one went wrong for some reason.

Best Way to Transfer large amounts of DATA
daveyjones98 posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
I have a Project that requires me to do a very Large Data transfer over 25tb from one old open Media Vault server to a new truenas core 13 file server. what would be the fastest way to transfer those over a network connection? i was mapping the drives and using Roadkil unstoppable copier which gives me bunch of metrics of the transfer. but it still takes days. is there a faster way? any advise is greatly appreciated -
I'm looking for some kind of software that can restore data of my phone, say after i accidentally deleted some vital documents. Also it would be useful if the software can restore everything from apps and whatsapp chats/media (big emphasis on this). I remember one of the LTT channels doing a sponsor for a recovery software related to restoring whats app chats, I just cant remeber the name Dr. something or another.

I recently found a ps3 at a thrift store that was in good condition and I'm looking into transferring my old ps3 to it. I've fitted the new ps3 with an ssd and installed everything I need to make it run. The conundrum I'm having is in regards to data on my old ps3 that can't be replaced (games/patches and dlc that are no longer available on the psn store) and how to safely transfer it. I've got a few questions/methods to go about this so hopefully you can help me. 1. To start off, if I were to just deactivate and reactivate my old ps3, would all the data still be fine even if it can't verify it through the store, or is all of this just tied to my psn account via purchase history or something and all is fine? If the answer is yes, then I could just activate/deactivate my ps3s (every six months) and just use the psn cloud saves to switch between the ps3s to at the very least keep them both backed up to date with save data? 2. Similar to the first question, the game data folder contains game installs and patches if I'm not mistaken. Does the transfer utility copy all of this or will I still have to reinstall games (and somehow find the patch files)? 3. I've used the back up utility to copy data over to the new ps3. It doesn't copy everything (copy-protected save data and the game data folder). I know that digital games and stuff like messages are tied to the psn account, those would have to be redownloaded regardless (without the transfer utility method). Also, are messages even transferrable since both consoles have to be deactivated to set up the transfer utility? Or are messages tied to the psn account and don't need transferring? 4. I would like to avoid the transfer utility because I know it deletes data off the old ps3, and ideally I'd like to keep it untouched incase anything goes wrong with the new ps3. I've backed up all save data (even copy protected) to the psn cloud. If I deactivate my old ps3, activate the new ps3, download all the save data and digital games (everything that wasn't included in the back up utility). That would just leave the game data folder and messages. Assuming I can reinstall the game data and that the messages are tied to the psn account, this method should work right? 5. Am I better off just backing up the old ps3, installing the ssd into the old ps3, and then restoring it, or are there still going to be missing items?

Hello Guys, I am searching for a little help, maybe point me to right direction, or give me more ideas to try... Till few days ago i used Amazfit bip with Mi Fit application. I have used it for 2 years and then i decided to switch to Huawei Smartwatch GT 2 Pro. Problem is with data transfer from MI Fit to Huawei Health application. In my Mi Fit Application there are lots of workouts, sleep data, walking info ect. Problem is when i switched from Mi Fit to Huawei Health application i am missing all data from Mi FIT (even when the google sync in application is enabled in both applications). I tried to reinstall both applications, relogin, clear cache for both application but nothing seems to be working. I was wondering if anyone here experienced similar issue or has any ideas how to get my workout data from Mi Fit to Huawei Health or at least to Google Fit. I was thinking about last possible solution that comes to my mind is to download data from Mi FIT in csv files and with python create script where i use Google Fit API and push data directly to server. Thank you guys for any help you can provide me Regards NightFurySVK

I think i have a problem because my hdd does a very weird thing when trying to install or recognize files from a game. (Is not an old hdd and its 1TB capacity from WD). As you can see on the image it does that ramp-up (to 35 MB/s) and drop (to less than 1MB/s) constantly and i don´t know what to do. The disk has a lot of space remaining btw. Also, ive tried disabling WPR (it was already disabled), Connected User Experiences and Telemetry, installed all drivers.I have my OS on a nvme m.2 drive, and my proccesor is a R7 3700X @ Stock (if needed to know). It also behaves like this when trying to copy files from another hdd (same model 1tb with 150GB of remaining space and 2yrs old) Going up to 130 MB/s (or more) and dropping completely. All my drives are healty according to CrystalDiskInfo. Also, inbetween this process i can hear the processor cooler (i think it is because what i can see in HWMonitor) ramping up and dropping aswell. (if i leave it there it will finish the process, but sometimes would lagg my pc and make me restart). (It behaves like this also when i try to copy files from the second hdd to the first one too)

I want to build a new PC with SSD as Windows 10 main boot drive, and an external HDD for mostly everything else but I want to transfer ALL the data from an old computer with windows XP. If I were to use data migration software, it would copy the entire drive including windows xp onto the new one if i'm not mistaken. So, if I migrated the entire drive with XP onto the new HDD, is all of the data accessible in windows 10? I will NOT be booting into windows XP from the new HDD.

There's kind of a lot going on in this project, so be ready. I got an M.2 PCIe3.0x4 SSD to replace my tower's sata III SSD boot drive and I plan to use this sata SSD to replace the 5400rpm HDD in my laptop for an all around performance boost. When I stuck the M.2 in to make sure it works, I got errors, so I pulled out the SSD and the when I turned it back on, the computer began a first-time install of Windows 10 from the m.2., without asking for a product key. I didn't expect it to have an OS and it caused some complications, but may have simplified the plan of moving OS's if I can simply copy all the non-Windows files over. The complication is that when booted from either the M.2 or sata SSD, Windows will not show the other drive being connected, even in disk manager. The laptop runs Windows 8 and I'd like to substitute with one of the Windows 10 copies if possible. All software on the laptop will be removed to make it fit on the sata SSD anyway, so it isn't a big deal to do a clean install, which it would need because of the hardware change. To summarize everything: Current Setup: 1. New Windows 10 on M.2 2. Old stuff on Windows 10 on sata SSD 3. Laptop stuff on Windows 8 on HDD 4. Storage HDD in tower, so you know it's there Goals: 1. Old stuff on M.2 2. Laptop stuff on Windows 10 on sata SSD 3. If #2 can't be done, Laptop stuff on Windows 8 on sata SSD Questions: 1. How can I see both the M.2 and sata SSD's at the same time, or can I get by by copying one to a storage hard drive while it's running and using that? 2. Would it be easiest to transfer all non-Windows files from the sata SSD to the M.2 or swap them entirely, Windows and all? 3. How does one duplicate a boot drive without ruining the OS? 4. If Goal #2 can be done, how can I revert the copy of Windows back to its ready-to-install state? I have plenty of storage on the tower to back up all three hard drives a few times each, so don't worry about making excessive backups or disk images. The Windows 10 copy on the M.2 didn't ask for a product key, probably because it was pulled from a pre-built, and I can find the product key for the copy I already had on the sata SSD. Thank you to everyone who offers help, I really need it for this chaos.

I have at the moment a full desktop tower with 3 HDD and what I want to do is replace the main drive that has the OS with an SSD. Here's my question. How do I or better yet, what do I use to transfer the data from one drive to another. And I'm not talking about the personal files because I have a 3 terabyte drive with that stuff. I'm referring to the OS and the programs. What I'm looking for is a similar solution to what apples Migration Assistance. I don't know if there is such a solution for Windows. Let me know. Lastly, the windows 10 that I have installed on my computer was a free upgrade from Microsoft. I already has the licence registration key for the OS but, where do I download the OS again. As you can tell I don't know where to start with this one. If you can provide me maybe a link to an already detailed tutorial on how to do this. Thank you in advance to everyone that helps.

So I have a bit of a problem... I recently bought an old server machine off eBay hoping to have a centralized storage solution for my house. It is a poweredge 2950 by Dell, with two 2.33ghz Xeons (they are kinda old), 8GB of fully buffered RAM, and a perc 6/i RAID controller. In it, I have 6 Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 250GB drives. In order to achieve better reliability and speed, I decided to set up Raid 50 (a combination of RAID 5 and RAID 0). I was hoping for some decent speeds, at least so I wouldn't have to wait hours for my computers to transfer their data. Unfortunately my speeds are a terrible 15 Mb per second transfers. I got very disappointed and I decided to test my transfer speeds with RAID 0 and I got the same! My biggest suspect here is the fact that I have to transfer my data through wifi, but I think that it is still very low, EVEN FOR WIFI! So I come to my fellow brothers here in the forums for help. WHAT IS MY BOTTLENECK????!!! I'm almost sure everyone is gonna say its the wifi, but I really feel like there is something else... Btw the server is connected over ethernet to the router

Are there any quick ways to move data onto an mirco sd card?
Xetro posted a topic in Storage Devices
I have a 256GB mirco sd card arriving tomorrow that i am planning to upgrade from my 128GB one. I have practically filled this card and i would like to move some data over the new card once i get it. I have a 3.0 adapter and have moved the data to my computer but it took a little while and i had to drag and drop each individual file which took quite some time. So are there any methods that allow me to just drag all the files and forget about it until its done? -

Hey, So I have a 2TB HDD which has about 30gb of space left. I need to transfer all my steam library to my new drive but the current drive struggles to reach 20MB/s and will take forever. is there a better way to transfer saves and reinstall the games? as games are, there are saves in all different locations and itll be to tedious to find data, transfer save, install game, test save, delete original save from old HDD. Thanks!

I am currently building a new system (I don't believe the spec are relevant, however). I had a 1tb hdd with windows, linux etc. and have now purchased a new 256gb m.2 ssd. I am planning on transferring all of my frequently used data to my ssd (have a dual drive setup). I am thinking that to do this i'll use senseMI, as it is natively supported. However the pc that i am migrating from has been completely destroyed by now and I am unable to access the drive par my new build. I am worried for many reasons. Namely the deactivation of windows (10 pro OEM) upon boot and improper drivers causing my pc to blow or something similar. I do, however have a usb linux disk if this would be of any help. Thank you in advance.

Hi all, I am looking for a way to send data from 'dumb' hardware to my laptop (windows 10) and replace my wired USB connection. The 'dumb' hardware is a spectrometer which does not have an operating system and cannot install any drivers on it. The only requirement for the wireless connection is that it can bridge a distance of minimum 10 meters. Does such a system exists? Thanks! Kind regards, Kay

I just bought a new laptop that comes with a ssd as the main drive and a empty 2.5in bay so the plan is to take my old harddrive from a previous laptop and put it into the new laptop. My question is would there be any problems regarding accessing my files from the drive and would the drive even work as seeing the my old laptop booted off that harddrive which came straight from the manufacturer. Old laptop is a acer aspire r15(i7 7500u 940mx that broke) new laptop is a msi GF63 9SC-653 (i5 9300H GTX 1650 max q).

Hi all, This is my first post, so I'm not sure where to put this. But here is the thing: 4 years ago I bought a Alienware M14x R2 for collage (software engineering). This is because 70% of the people there were gamers, so a gaming laptop sounded like a good idea. It turned out that my laptop was actually better than my desktop that I already had (at that point 3 years old) and became my primary device for pretty much everything. A few months ago I graduated from college and don't need to be this mobile anymore when it comes to gaming, so I'm thinking about upgrading my desktop (probably from scratch, since it's 7 or 8 years old by now). The problem though is that this laptop is more than enough to do my work with (programming and some photoshop here and there). If I'd replace the battery it could be more than enough for the next 3-4 years. It kind of depends on teh job that I'm gonna get. Some companies require you to use your own laptop, others want you to work on a workstation or company laptop. Anyway, if I switch from primarily using this laptop to primarily using my new desktop I feel like my laptop will turn into a time capsule (because I rarely use it). When I need to bring my laptop with me I want to have all the things that I need, such as my programming software, my code and maybe even some resource files such as logo's, banners, ect. Right now it feels like I have everything that I never need always with me, but that could change if I don't use this laptop anymore. If I'm at home I'd use my desktop over my 14 inch laptop of course (need to buy a new screen as well now that I think about it), but I'm not sure how to make that transition. I was thinking about stuff like dropbox and GIT and all that stuff, so that I'd sync all of it when I boot my laptop and leave the house. But....I don't know....do you guys have any tips for my? TL:DR feels like I have everything I ever need on my laptop, I don't want that to change when I buy a new desktop as my primary workstation. Any tips?

data transfer Using Multiple USB Connections Simultaneously?
Schyken posted a topic in Storage Devices
Okay, question. If I used two identical USB ports on a device and made the system think they were the same thing, essentially allowing for both channels to be used simultaneously (similar to how RAID works) and I connected the end to another device for data transfer. Would I see an increase in performance and speeds due to higher bandwidth? (Here's a graphic I made in paint...) -

Hi, I have a pc with 3mbps connection and my friend has with 1mbps connection. We run a youtube channel. I want to keep data in his pc and access it quickly. How can I do that. We don't live together so I can't use his hard drive physically. Is there a way to keep data in his pc and access it like it's in my pc? We live in same country in same city. 9km distance between if that helps. Thank you

After the video where Linus puts the computers in a different room and uses a single thunderbolt connection to use as a connection between him and the computers, it got me thinking: How much can i display with a single thunderbolt connection. My goal is to do something similar to get rid of the noise completely, but with more pixels. My idea was a setup with 3 monitors. the middle one being the Acer X34 and the two others being Acer XB270HU. I know the newest version of thunderbolt can transfer 40Gbit/s but the implimentation in boards have been hard to find. My question then is would a single Thunderbolt 3 cable be enough to power all of this? and if so, how would i go about wiring it all up, as it would probably require several hubs and i have not seen any ways of getting the data from the graphics cards to a single cable, like the PCIe card that was used in Linus' project. It is a hypothetical build so should i wait until the next gen come out? (btw i only have one XB270HU at the moment so the choices were made very much because of this) Thanks and much love

Hi all, I'm getting an SSD shortly after Christmas and to take advantage of it I'm wanting to put Win 7 on it. I was wondering is there a (decent) way of transferring my current Win 7 off my HDD to SSD? Or are things like that more hassle than it's worth, and formatting my old drive and doing a fresh install on the SSD the way to go? One thing probably worth noting is my current drive has more data on it than the capacity of my new SSD, as in Win 7 files; Steam + games etc... So I'm not wanting to transfer the entire thing; literally just the OS. Thanks in advance. EDIT: letters

Hey guys, Quickie. In less than a month I'll be building myself a brand new build, i7 4790k, watercooled, the lot. I'm currently using an AMD CPU *ducks and covers* and I have a 3 drive config, SSD for my OS and programs and 2 HDDs purely for my games, footage and other miscellaneous stuff. I was wondering since I'm changing teams would I be able to just format the SSD, reinstall windows and my programs and my HDD's will just pick up from where they left off, or would I have to format all 3? Just Curious. Jake.
