Alright, So I plan on buying a used HTC Vive off Craigslist for $400, yes it's low, also an hour drive away. but that's why i'm here. What is the best way to test an HMD? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5577G with a 4gb GTX 1050(desktop is better, see profile for specs), clearly not VR ready but would it work to test in a Starbucks or something? What are some other things I should be looking for? (also not sure where to post this, HMD = Head Mounted Display so i'm posting here. mods feel free to move or delete)

I currently have an R9 380 and have been trying to upgrade recently and as I'm sure you're aware, you can't. I decided to finally venture into craigslist and found an actually good deal on a RTX 2060, almost too good. His wording in the description seems weird as well. He's also shipping through mail, but I figured that was fo covid reasons. Any ideas if this might be a scam or am I just overreacting?

help needed Is this a good Gaming PC/Workstation?

Hey all, Asking this for a friend. My friend wants to buy their first PC, they want to use it for gaming, light streaming and video editing. I found this 12 core workstation on craigslist and I was wondering if it was a good use deal for their use case. Thanks for the help. (PS: They already have all the peripherals they need.) -
Hey guys! Two months ago I had to sell my Sapphire Nitro RX580 8GB to pay for some medication for a loved one. Like all the people in my area, I sold my GPU for like, 300$. I dont regret it, since that person now feels better than ever. Now, after realising how essential for my mental health gaming with friends is, during these times. I decided to buy a GPU so I can finally get back to gaming. The current GPU shortage just made the prices go even higher, and looking on insert romanian craigslist equivalent here i found a "presumably" dead RX580 4GB for sale, for 100$ The seller said he buys them in batch, either from mining rigs or , so he doesnt really bother testing them too much. It's interesting that he said the "GPU won't post on an intel system" but "might work on AMD systems or older DDR3 based intel systems" I have minor troubleshooting skills in terms of hardware, so I'm not sure how confident would I be buying this card and trying to fix it. Even if it sounds stereotypical, the dude on the phone sounds pretty old. The "I think the HDMI port from the motherboard will do just fine" kind of old. Would you buy the card if you were me? Is any card "forever" dead? EDIT: Seller says RGB and the fans turn on.

I took an old system I had around and put a few parts from my big box of parts in it to try to sell it and declutter. Does this seem like an effective listing and a reasonable price? I listed it on fb and craig's. Listing is as follows: Title: Gaming PC w/ RX 6600, i7 3770, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, WiFi, Good PSU - $400 I've had this tower since it was new but decided to put a few better components that I had on hand in it and sell it. Some of the components I bought new to finish it off. Components: CPU: i7 3770 (4 cores 8 threads) GPU: RX 6600 (8GB GDDR6 VRAM) (Used for 8 months on another system with excellent airflow) RAM: 16GB (2x8, DDR3 1600MHz) (New) SSD: 500GB SATA 3D VNAND (New) HDD: 500GB 3.5in 7200RPM DVD R/W: lol yes it has one and it is automatic with a hinged door to hide it nicely. Wireless: Onboard Wifi PSU: 750w DeepCool DQ750 V2 80+ Gold, Fully Modular (New) The RX 6600 is as fast in most games as a GTX 1080, (faster in newer games) and uses half the power. It's a little faster than the RTX 3060 but slower than the RTX 3060ti for reference. The heatsink says AMD on it because I swapped out the fan on the CPU heat sink with one from a Wraith Spire to give it a little extra air and be quieter (the fan on that cooler is made by CoolerMaster). The screw holes were in the same spots so it fits perfectly. I've also installed an extra 140mm corsair fan onto the side ventilation to get some extra cold air in and give the system positive air pressure (good for temps and dust). The power supply is brand new and fully modular and I have all of the extra cables for it. It's a really good power supply, way overkill for this system. I just needed a PSU for this system and had a sweet promo code for it. I've installed Windows 11 Home on it and fully activated it. The Windows key is still on a sticker on the case. 125-140 fps average at 3440x1440p in Overwatch 2 online matches at Epic settings. These are the pics I included with the listing.

I found this build on my local Craigslist for $550, which seems to be a steal, but I'm hesitant to buy it seeing that it is in pieces and the pretty low price. He offered to set it up to verify that it works. What should I look for/be wary of? Is it worth the shot? PCPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wVMyZ8 Thanks for any help!

Read best answer guys. Be careful. Eva's warranty is cool, but ehh... I was not expecting that. I still don't believe it. I just got a 1080 FTW of craigslist for... 381 USD (500 CAD). I'm shaking boyz... It has 899 days of "guest" warranty left (I love EVGA for that btw).

So yesterday I found a fully working i5 2400 PC sitting in an e-waste pile and I started thinking about all of the perfectly working PC's that go to recycling centers where they are often just sent overseas or trashed, all because large companies upgrade their PCs every 3-4 years. Anyways, I started thinking, what if someone were to buy those computers off of companies that would gladly get rid of them (for around $10-50 per PC depending on the specs) and bulk order a ton of GTX 1050s/RX 460s and sell budget gaming PCs for console prices at a trustworthy store with a warranty for those that don't want to build a PC themselves or don't want to take the risk or buying used from Craigslist. Not saying its entirely original, and I know there are stores like Free Geek, but what is your take on this? I see it as a win-win-win: Profitable for companies, profitable for the middleman who fixes up the PCs (reinstalling Windows and installing new graphics card/cleaning out dust, etc.), and cheap gaming PCs for the buyer (much cheaper than Alienware and other prebuilts).

I ran across an intreagueing Craigslist post on Monday. Three used Laptops in unknown condition. No chargers and no hard drives but 30$. After looking at the rather grainy photos, I came to the conclusion that I was monstly interested in the Asus laptop, as it seemed to have a core i badge (I could tell from the gold fold on the badge) and Radeon graphics (red badge). After asking if I could just bu the one, he said just take them all for 10$! So all told I ended up with three laptops for 10$. The Dell and the Sony are older and nothing to write home about, but the Asus looks promising. It turns out to have a core i5 mobile prosesor (probably first gen maybe 520m?) and ATI HD 5470 graphics and to top it all off a blue ray drive. I ordered a charger and new battery off Amazon and I will update you guys on whether or not it ends up working. Even if it dosen't work, I'm only out 10$ (USD) so no big deal. Let me know what you guys think of my pick up.

Sold a barebones pc today on craigslist. Amd fx8350, 8gb ram, case, psu, for $220, along with another set of old peripherals. Used a hard drive with windows on it to prove that it works, and to prove the specs. We came to an agreement on price, I shut down the computer, and pulled my hdd out, and I unplug the pc from the monitor/wall. I recieve payment, then leave. A few hours later he says it doesn't turn on. Says the fans don't even turn on. I asked basic questions (e.g. is the power supply switch on, which button is the power button, check all the connections). He says everything is plugged in, but it won't start. Any ideas? As the buyer, how do I know it wasnt damaged during transport to his house, or that he broke it? (Like putting a screwdriver against the motherboard while it was on, or inclorrectly installing a drive or graphics card). Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, but not forums in general. I recently was inspired to attempt to build my own PC for once rather than just buying and upgrading from Linus's channel. I have spent several hours browsing Craigslist around my area for parts I need, here's the goal: I need to build a VR capable desktop PC for cheaper than prebuilt "VR Ready" PCs. I feel like the price I've totaled to is alright, but not as much as I expected. I'm using the NVIDIA VR Guide as a point of reference here. Briefly speaking, I wanted to develop VR within Unity on my laptop, so I purchased the HTC Vive, and quickly discovered that, although my HP Elitebook Workstation had a great processor, and RAM (i7 vPro + 8Gb ddr3) the GPU was.. well a Quadro k1000m... needless to say.. 5 years out of date.. and I first started towards simply replacing the k1000m with a gtx 980m.. but it appears that, although it'd be alright, it wouldn't be optimal for development purposes... not to mention a real pain to change out the gpu in a laptop! So after I concluded I wanted to build a Desktop, I quickly got to work and found these parts (USD): Mother Board - Asus Z170-Deluxe ATX - $100 GPU - MSI GeForce 1060 6gb - $250 CPU (Option 1) - i7 7700k - $300 RAM - Corsair DDR4 3000Mhz 16gb - $110 Chassis, HDD, PSU - Thermaltake V3 Case, 500gb HDD, 500watt PSU - $40 Total: $800 I am looking for input from two points, 1.) I feel unsure whether this came out as financially beneficial as I expected... Although I did make sure each of these items was fairly priced individually in comparison to other used sellers, but still, on average I wanted to make sure anyone reading this feels that I'm getting each part for a fair price. 2.) I need to have more experienced PC builders verify that all of these parts are compatible so I don't go buy them all and find myself with only half of a computer! I currently have ~$500 USD and I find most "VR Ready" prebuilt PCs are between $1k - $1.5k so I'm not 100% sure whether I've got the best out of my time.. and considering I haven't called anyone yet to see if they'll deliver or mail to me, I may have to add gas into the equation... I feel like I'm really sacrificing some other components of prebuilt PCs which in turn makes me feel like building it this way is coming out about even with the price of a prebuilt. I can get the extra cash loaned to me from my brother and pay him back next payday, but I'd prefer if it was more around my current $500 budget... idk if that's very realistic for a VR situation though.. An extra third input I could use also 3.) Anyone have recommendations of parts that could be downgraded to lower the price without losing a significant performance rating within a VR environment? I'm brand new to VR so I don't know what is the most important aspects that affect it, although I'd assume the GPU is, I was considering a lower end MB and CPU.. but maybe that'd lower performance in another area.. I'm pretty intermediate when it comes to PC Hardware. Any other input in general is also welcome and appreciated!

Hi, I want to know if this ( https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/sys/d/intel-i5-3590k-128gb-1tb-rp/6302086299.html ) is a good deal for a gaming/streaming computer. I will be streaming LoL, Warframe and some other games with this computer. Also, will it be upgradable in the future? This is the motherboard ( https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Intel-Micro-Motherboard-B85M-E45/dp/B00IZHHBR0 ) First time using a Forum also so tips for the future would be appreciated also :).

I built a computer for my friend recently using used parts. He uses it mostly for easy to play games like: Overwatch, OS runescape, LoL, CSGO (Ect..) Current system specs: MOBO - ASRock H110M-HDS R3.0 LGA 1151 CPU - Pentium G4400 GPU - Radeon HD 7770 RAM - 4gb of DDR4 (Will upgrade to 8GB) 500W PSU He's been restricted to playing on low settings on some games, and I felt that was my fault for choosing the crap card. So I took it upon myself to send him a GTX 660 2gb Asus I bought for 60 bucks. My question is: How badly will the G4400 bottleneck this card? Will he need to upgrade his CPU to the G4560? Thanks! TJ

Hey was looking at a computer for school and some gaming here and there and I am not sure if this is a very good deal or if the cpu might be too old to be worth it anymore. I attatched the link to craigslist so you can see a picture but I'll put his description down below too. https://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/sys/6245665559.html Selling my spare gaming computer. So, basically I have zero experience with the used market, such as craigslist, for PC parts. I want to put together a PC that I can stream 1080p30 or 1080p60 (don't really care), can playback YT in 4K (don't worry about monitor), and can game in 1440p (or 4K, but I laptop game in 1080p at like 20FPS, so don't worry if you can't get that lol) No idea if this can be achieved, but if it can be done, I hope to aim for about a $1100 USD total. Less if possible. I live in the Chicagoland area, so if you want to link Craigslist posts, go for that area. Thanks!

So I was surfing my local Craigslist when something odd Cought my eye. What appeared to be an old Dell pre biult mounted inside a wall canbinet..... you just can’t make this stuff up. I’m almost tempted to buy it despite the tirrible specs (core 2 duo and no gpu). I have no use for the monitor so not sure if I would take that. It is the altimate troll system; it has an Apple power cable for an IMac coming out of the psu for goodness sake. Anyways thought you guys would get a kick out of this “epic” custom case. Sorry, no RGB.

Hey all! First post on here, but I just had to go somewhere and share this awesome build/find I got and take some recommendations on to improve it. So here is the build on everything I can find out about it at first glance, since it was sold with no specs listed and I've had it for just under a day. GTX 570 Graphics card A seasonic x-1050 80 plus gold power supply. two Patriot Gamer 2 4gb DDR3 SDRAM Intel ATX Crossfire Mother board A coolit Eco ALC liquid cooling. LightOn Blue ray disk drive. Only three things I don't know besides cables and one LED strip. One, the Case. I figured out it's MainGear but besides that I have no idea what the exact case is. Two I don't know what the front card reader is. I'm not big into Sd cards, let alone SD cards for Pcs so I don't know what kind of reader this is until I can take it apart. And lastly, since I've had it for a day and haven't had the chance, Can't tell what the processor is until I plug it in. Anyway, just wanted to show it off and ask if you guys have an recommendations or ideas. Let me know, super excited to see what you guys come up with.

I spend a lot of time looking for stuff on craigslist, and come across a few practices that really grinds my gears 1. WHY do people list things for $1 when they clearly aren't selling for $1? Am I stupid to click on your ad thinking you're selling a brand new PS4 for $1? obviously they do this so that their ad has more favorable search placement, but personally i go out of my way to NOT click on these - better yet I filter out anything below $2 when I search for things. 2. People who omit zeros from a car's odometer reading. So you get these morons that will list something like "2000 Honda Accord Low Miles" and put 20,000 for the mileage when in actuality it's 200,000 miles. Again, assuming you get someone stupid enough to come down and look at your car, how are you going to explain that the actual mileage is 10x what you claimed? 3. People who put stuff like "will sell fast" or " will not last" and have some vastly inflated almost insulting price. This isn't ebay circa 1995 folks. If you list a 6 year old denon receiver at its original MSRP, tagging "won't last!!!" in your title isn't going to get it sold. 4. Extreme lowballers - usually offering CASH MONEY. Really, are there any other accepted payment methods for these transactions? Chickens? Credit? Flooz? I'm not talking about people who want to negotiate on the price. I'm talking about people who offer 20% of asking price on an item that is already being offered below going rate. A few years ago I was selling a 30" Dell monitor. Original MSRP was over $1k, going rate at the time was $450 and i needed to move it quick so I listed it for $300. Some guy emailed me, "I'll give you $50 today, CA$H MONEY". Yes, he substituted the dollar symbol for the S. I googled his email address (this was before CL masked them), and found out he was a pretty high powered realtor. I searched his listings, found the most expensive property - some giant estate listed for over $2M. Got his phone number, called him at his office. His secretary patched me through and i told him I would totally sell him the monitor for $50 and take an ~85% loss on my asking price, provided he sell me said property at the same discount. (he hung up on me) .

So I found a great deal for a 4790 on craigslist. For those of you who don't know what that is, its just a place where people can list things they want to sell. I started to talking to the guy and he said after putting it back into his system, it didn't work right. He said that it boots, but the computer was very sluggish (as though it was out of memory) and games would either not load, or crash after about a minute). I really want the cpu to not be broken, so I am looking for other possible causes of these issues. He says it was working fine, then he put it away for about a month and after trying it out it doesn't work. CPUs just don't go bad, do they? they either break completely, or work fine. Can anybody advise me as to what might be causing the sluggishness on his end? (FYI, he upgraded from a 4790, to a 4790k and the k works fine). I also don't think he's trying to rip me off witha broek CPU, because he is the one who tested it and is saying it doesn't work right.
