Hello, I searched the forums and the broader internet but couldn't find a good comparison of an M3 Max vs an equivalent Intel or AMD processor. A lot of the comparison sites just don't have comparative fields for Apple vs Intel processors. (Aka price to performance calcs). Can anyone point me to a good Intel or AMD processor that would be on-par with an M3 Max chip? I certainly don't need an Intel Core i9-14900k, but I am looking forward to using a proper Desktop class processor. I have not built a computer for about a decade. I currently have a 16" m1 Pro MBP, and an m2 MBA for work. Looking to build a gaming, 3D modeling, and 4k video editing windows PC. I plan to game at 1440p and don't care about ray tracing. I won't be playing many AAA games like Cyberpunk or Tomb Raider, more indy titles. So 1440p at 120hz will be my target monitor. Perhaps a second monitor at 4k with great color accuracy but a low refresh rate. Thank you!

Why does this keep happening? While my routers CPU core hits 100% i get a huge latency while i.e. pinging my router. Ive ordered a new asus router with 4 cores. And hopefully that wil solve the problem. But my question is, does anyone know why this happens? We are only 2 people living in this apartment.

Summary Intel is planning a major rebranding with their Core i-series processors by renaming them Core Ultra (insert 3/5/7/9 here) series instead. An example would be the Core Ultra 5 1003H. This rebranding is expected to start with the launch of mobile Meteor Lake processors. Quotes My thoughts This is pretty crazy to hear that Intel is doing a rebranding of their Core i brand to Core Ultra. Do they really want to confuse consumers more? Intel did post a terrible Q1 2023 earning with profits down so much its a first for Intel in history. I guess a rebranding is part of trying to change their image into a new company. The Core i7-1165G7 was just too much. Hello geeks, Well, I came accross an older Core i9-9900K that seems to have one failed core. In particular the 6th core seems to cause crashing. I bought this CPU from one guy who told me, he has an ASUS Z370 board with broken CPU socket (some pins were accidentally bent and eventually fell off of the socket when tried to be levelled back) and that this CPU on this crippled board only shows 3 cores, if it boots at all sometimes. So I thought, hmmm, chances to boot a healthy CPU on a broken socket are low but still, it can happen that the motherboard somehow reads the CPU just enough to POST. The guy even posted me with some puictures from installed Windows where it showed 3 cores, no HT. And since I did not meat many borken i9s I thought, alright, maybe the CPU is fine and it would be a good buy! Now, when I put the CPU in my known-good Gigabyte Aorus Z370 Ultra Gaming (latest F16b BIOS) + 2x8GB Samsung OEM DDR4@3200 and nothing else, the set boots fine, the CPU gets recognized and all seems okay. Then I added 1 M.2 SSD and a bootable Win11 USB... booted,...and crashed to BSOD with HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED. So I ran bootable USB with MemTEST86 and soon as it started in default mode, it showed many errors and eventually failed during too many errors detected. So first I replaced the RAM with another dual channel set of braand new 2x16GB Patriot Viper Steel. Same result as the pictures show. So I did some more testing but with only one single core enabled in the MemTEST86 and it went fine. So I went to BIOS and enabled only 5 cores of 8. I ran the MemTEST86 again...and, though only 5 cores were enabled and the program showed them as 5 active, the teesting failed soon again, pointing to core 6 again. So I went to BIOS and enabled only 4 cores of 8 and disabled hyper thread. I ran the MemTEST86 again...and, though only 4 cores were enabled and set active, the teesting failed again, pointing AGAIN to core 6. So before I throw the CPU in the bin, I thought if there is a way to mod the BIOS file and disable the 6th core directly. Any ideas?? Regards, George

Help figuring out -250 memory clock drop on Suprim X 4090
6r3ys0n19 posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hello everyone. I am on my third 4090 - Suprim X air cooled version is the current one I own. Prior I owned a Gaming trio at first - which had some coil whine - only reason I returned it being all the plastic on the shroud, when i'm paying almost 2 grand on a GPU I want a premium feel as well. That being said I feel like I made a mistake, that chip was actually the best bin out of all I have had the pleasure of owning, with the second quietest coil whine. I am currently very happy with the Suprim I ended up with, and am sticking with this one. It's the most efficient chip out of all of them and has virtually no coil whine - I wanted to make sure I was absolutely happy with the card I ended up with. I am a heavy OC and bios tweaker, and noticed an issue with both Suprim X models. For some reason, after a minute or two while gaming or benchmarking, the memory clock drops from 10501mhz in afterburner down to 10251mhz. This also appears in HWInfo64 and GPUZ. I have done everything from switching between silent and gaming bios, which fixes it temporarily, to doing a fresh reinstall of windows, to downloading DDU and completely removing all vga drivers and reinstalling them manually. I do not use discord nor do I have it downloaded, and I did read up that discord was causing -200mhz drops on nvidia GPU's for a while. This is why I am stumped. My other Suprim X did this as well, and I just didn't have the gaming trio long enough or spend enough time benchmarking and hanging out in afterburner to actually notice the drop, so i'm not sure if it was happening, but I don't believe it was. Anyone have any ideas? My core also drops down 20mhz or so after a minute or two of gaming, which is not as severe but odd. Both suprims did this, I have even opened Nvidia task manager and changed things to performance instead of adapt, still dropped mem clock. Please help -
Hi, i did overclock a Athlon 200Ge and made a mistake (Asus Bios btw) i just put 4.4Ghz and added 0.20000v VDDCR Cpu voltage (numbers was yellow) and then the pc won't boot. I manage to make it boot but now Cpu-z and Cpu benchmark says that it's an 1 Core 1 Thread processor... Did i burnt one of the cores? Was high Voltage the mistake or the 4.4Ghz? Is there a chance that i can fix it?

I'm getting a good upgrade deal to go from 10600K to either 10850K or 10900K (depending on availability). The mobo I use is Asus Prime Z490-M Plus and cooling it with a Lian Li Galahad 240, and yeah, no GPU, at least for now. I've been told by the shop owner that the mobo is good enough to handle the said processors, They will even try to sell you an elephant saying it's a monkey, so not really reliable, hence, turning to you guys' for some advice. The intended use is mostly Blender, and occasional light gaming. Is it a worthy upgrade?

Since I am going to university soon I am going to need a laptop around 1800-2000 euros. I found the xmg core (1803) and neo (1827) 17. They are about the same price. What's the difference between the two? Btw I know I haven't selected an ssd but that's because I already have one. Can I also install a 2.5 hdd? It doesn't say if it has sata on the specifications so I don't think it does. Feel free to recommend any other laptop in the price-range

Hello guys, after formatting my pc and installing a new windows. i noticed while gaming my cup temp gets 65c to some times 71c which is not normal before the format. cos I used to get 55c to 59 as a maximum. add to that, i have a AIO cooling for my core i7 9700k from Cooler Master. and i noticed a lot of weird numbers for throttling and idle temps numbers. i hope someone would tell me what happened now? am i going to loos it soon.... thank you. note, there is nothing working in the background and nothing running at all at the time those pics has been taken.

Hello everyone, hope you're having a good day. This is my issue that i have been ignoring for a few months but now I'm decided to fix it. Back in January i was playing Cyberpunk and got a BSOD related to system memory (irql not less or equal). I didn't get the error anymore after some tweaking on bios with the RAM speed but I noticed games in general were running quite badly (stuttering). After some digging i found out that for some reason the applications are all running on Core 0, and almost never dropping from 90% usage on that core while all the other cores are ignored. I googled this issue but nothing came up except for a solution that was to set the affinity on the task manager and deactivate Core 0 for every application i want to use which is quite annoying. This fix lets me run games and applications reasonably smooth for the following months. I tried the following solutions: Updating Bios Undo my CPU's OC Reduce and increase CPU voltage Change RAM position Change RAM speed and timings Clean reinstall of windows Going back to a previous version of windows before the crash. My PC's specs are: MSI B350 gaming pro carbon MB Ryzen 5 1600 with an OC to 3.8 Nvidia GTX 1660ti RAM asgard loki w2 3200mhz 1 1TB HDD 1 m.2 Sata SSD 1 SSD If someone can help me it would be greatly appreciated because I'm seriously thinking of changing my motherboard and CPU to try out how it works but the prices right now are not helping.

My CPU budget is ~£200 Would an 8 core CPU be better for the long term instead of a 6 core CPU? I have a RTX 3060 ti and my original CPU of choice was the ryzen 5 3600 ,which is a 6 core CPU, but someone suggested that an 8 core CPU would be better for the future as the New consoles (PS5 and Xbox series X) will be using 8 core CPUs so newer games will be better optimized for 8 core CPUs. I am now thinking of buying a ryzen 7 2700x but most people online say to get the 3600 over the 2700x as it preforms better.

I have a 5th gen Ryzen 9 AMD CPU (specs in signature) and I have boosted all 16 cores to 4.1 GHz, however this takes off the boost clock. What is the reason for this? As long as voltage is safe and temps are safe, surely it should be able to do both?

Anyone with a Core P3 - can you please let me know whether the case supports 3 120mm fans on the AIO/radiator mount? I'm planning on using a tower air cooler and using the 3 mounting points for fans to create some air flow, but mostly to fill up the space.

I just got the ryzen 5 3600, which is supposed to have 6 cores, and it's only showing 2 cores on the task manager and cpu-z. Could somebody please help? Thanks! edit: an hour later I got “the blue screen of death” this is really bad. I’m going to try reinstalling windows.

Hi everyone, new member here. I have the asus gm501 gtx 1060 edition since 2.5 years. The intel core i7 8750h was a huge step up in terms of performances compared to the previous gen, but this CPU is also known to heat a lot. So I made as much optimiztions as I could to prevent my laptop to overheat: I repasted it (arctic mx-4), I undervolted it (-0.0125mv) and with the soft throttle stop I also put some more security by underclocking the cpu if the temp go higher than 80°c (if so, it goes from 3.9Ghz to 3.4Ghz max). With all of this, I managed to prevent high temperatures, and in "normal conditions" (say 22°c in the room) the laptop would never go higher than 90°c during the peaks and would be usually around 75 ~ 80°c during taxing gaming sessions or 3D renders. I was happy with this. But since a few weeks my temps are going too high, reaching crazy temps like 97°c, and making my CPU throttle a bit. I'm also worried by the temp sensor indicating that one of the cores is going way higher than the others. (I noticed since the beginning that the second core [in screenshot core#1] was a bit hotter than the others, but now it can have like 10 degrees of difference and that's too much). (see images attached to this post, recorded after a 2 hours gaming session) My guess are: -the thermal paste dried a bit (last time I changed it was only 1 year ago that being said), and/or a little air bubble formed, explaining that one core overheating; -The latest bios update messed up somehow, it seems like it overheat since this update but I'm not sure if I can rollback to the previous bios version. (and I'd really like to rollback, but I rode on some places that it wasn't 100% safe) Things I did: -reset the bios to the default settings -giving the core a bit more of voltage (reducing the amount of undervolting) -playing games only on down-clocked profile, waiting for a solution because I don't want to damage my laptop it's my workstation Any thoughts?

Currently I'm deciding to take Ryzen 5 3400g or 5600g If it is within my budget. But if not, I might go for a 3200g (Only for a lil bit of gaming mostly valo, apex, genshin so I know it will be fine any of the 3). -But what would be the difference on 3400g and 5600g rather the cores/threads? -i saw a few video about this 3 cpu and the Ryzen 5 has a lead on fps rather the 3200g, but also notice that the 5600g is using the old vega rather the 3400g so what is also the difference? -Also what would you recommend to me any of the mentioned cpu?
