  1. What kind of cooling best fits a "white out" themed build? Sub-zero, of course! And how exactly do you get sub-zero cooling? I grew up around computers all my life though, via my dad's job in IT. I'd like to think I have a good general knowledge of the components, what they do, what makes a good one "good" or "bad", etc. I've spent alot time over the past month or so educating and researching all that I can about building so I can feel more confident about doing this. I've found that the more I push myself to learn about this, the easier it feels to do. With that being said, I'm feeling good about my choices for my build and was hoping I could get a bit of feedback on the parts I've chosen. I plan on using it for school and gaming. I'm in school for architecture, so I'll be using alot of design and drafting applications, like Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUP, Photoshop, etc. As far as peripherals go, I've already purchased a LG 4K monitor, Magicforce 2 wireless keyboard, and Logitech MX Master 3. For the monitor, refresh rates and FPS are not a big deal to me, so I don't need any advice on that front. Any other advice or feedback is highly appreciated! Thanks!
  3. Greeting First time poster :) Will as title state I have an Asus gl502vs which had it choke (R22 / R36) blown, I looked on Ali Express and Ebay and I could not find any matching part The full name of the part R22 636 RHH R36 626 CMI Attatch an image (sorry shitty s9p) Thanks
  4. Hi everyone, I added a post in troubleshooting but I got no answer I am looking for thous part (r22 / r36) for asus gl502vs motherboard If you have any lead , kindly share it Or you know a service that fix motherboard (world wide) please share it Thanks Best
  5. Hopefully this is the right place to ask this, but I'm looking to upgrade my GTX 950 to something thats not bottlenecked by my I5-4590 cpu I'm not sure if upgrading the cpu or graphics card first would be better, but I can do both eventually. My budget is $100-300ish and any help would be appreciated!
  6. Hi everyone! So i have been gaming on my pc and when i play games that are harder to run like Call of Duty Warzone, GTA V and Fortnite. I get really annoying lag spikes. I am wondering why i get those. When i go to my task manager i can see that my cpu gets between 80% and 100% usage while gaming. My RAM gets between 70% and 95% usage. My hdd sometimes hits 100%. And my GPU doesn't reach 100% usage. I will put a list of my specs below here. I want to know if the lag spikes are caused by a certain copponent, and what copponent would i have to change and what would need to be the replacing component so i don't get anymore lag spikes in those games. CPU: Intel Core i5 7600K - 3.8 GHz GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti GAMING 8G MotherBoard: MSI Z270-A PRO Case: BitFenix Neos - Midtowermodel Powersuply: Corsair VS Series VS550 CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH Edition HardDisk: WD Blue WD10EZEX MemoryCard: Ballistix Tactical 8GB - DDR4 Monitor: Philips V-line 243V7QDAB - LED Monitor Let me know! Thanks, Max
  7. Hey there, I'm a university student (in the UK) and my current computer is letting me down a lot with running computational models and compiling code. Decided that I'm going to try building a computer instead of getting one off the shelf, I've looked at some components and the question is whether they'll be fit for purpose/good? Here's the list: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor CPU cooler: ARCTIC Alpine 64 GT 25.6 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-AB350M-DS3H Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill NT Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage: Western Digital Green 240 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 2 GB Low Profile Video Card Case: BitFenix Nova ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA 600 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply Currently budgeting around £600 Will be using a Windows 10 for students as the OS. Thanks in advance, Peter
  8. Hello, I want to build my first pc (gaming) but I don't have a high budget ( 400€ - 430€ germany). I've spend a lot of time searching and comparing pc pieces and I think I have found good ones. I'm not an expert (more a noob) so could you please look if my chooses are good. I do have a Pc part picker list but there are some pieces that don't show up. So I've made a web where there are all the exact components. I just buy from amazon because I had very good experiences with the returns. I want to play minecraft with this pc and I have now a laptop with the intel i3-6006u with integrated graphics card intel hd 520 and it runs Minecraft between 50-60 fps but there are often frame drops and if there are a lot of chunk updates like Redstone the fps drops to 0-10. And Minecraft is a game that uses more the cpu than the gpu. So i think that the ryzen 3200g is better than the intel i3-6006u and it will have more fps. I3-6006u vs ryzen 3 3200g: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-6006U-vs-AMD-Ryzen-3-3200G/m214467vsm824486 Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC6CxTxat74 This is minecraft on ryzen 3 2200g: https://www.userbenchmark.com/PCGame/FPS-Estimates-Minecraft/3776/441833.441832.0.0.0 https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/TcwzHB My website where are all the components: https://spaceagle17buildsapc.blogspot.com/2020/02/my-pc.html Thank you guys a lot!
  9. Hello! We currently have at the office(a web development agency) a FreeNAS built from unused PC parts from around the office and we have been very happy with it. But now it's full and it's time for an upgrade. The parts I thought of are:Case: Zalman Z11 Plus2x HDD Rack: Thermaltake Max 3503 SATA HDD Rack6x HDD: WD Red 6TB SATA-III 5400RPM 256MB WD60EFAXPSU: Seasonic Focus GX, 80+ Gold, 650W FOCUS-GX-6502x USB memory stick: Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GBRAM: HyperX Fury Black 64GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Dual Channel KitMy thoughts: I choose that case because it's cheap and has four 5.25 inch bays to fit the two HDD racks. The HDDs will be fitted in the racks and used in a RAID-Z2. In the future, we could fit another 6 HDDs in the internal bays of the case and connect them using a PCI SATA controller. I'm undecided if I should go with AMD or Intel, the two options I thought of are:CPU: Intel Coffee Lake, Core i7 9700 3.0GHz box BX80684I79700Motherboard: ASUS TUF Z390-PRO GAMINGORCPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 3.9GHz box 100-100000025BOXMotherboard: MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUSI've read about some temperature reporting errors with Ryzen CPUs but other than that couldn't find anything that could break the system. Besides I've read that Ryzen official support comes later this year when FreeNAS and TrueNAS merge. What it will be used for: finished web design projects and website backup storage with samba shares a separate share for web development around 10 people will use it, 5 of them through a VPN maybe a small Ubuntu virtual machine What do you guys think about this build? Should I go AMD or Intel?
  10. Hello, I just compared the price of processor in India and USA on amazon. There is a huge difference. The US one is cheaper even if I add the shipping cost by amazon. For eg. Ryzen 5 3600 costs 16500 INR (i.e. 223 USD) on Amazon.in while it costs $174 + $9(for shipping) = 183 USD on amazon.com. Saving $40 is a LOT on budget CPUs like this. I found similar trends on most components and peripherals. Can I buy these items on amazon.com and get them shipped here to build my own PC or am I missing something? If I can buy, please help me list out the pros and cons that I might be facing with the build in future. Also, how easy is it to get warranty services on such products? Thanks in advance.
  11. Hello, everyone. I am planning to build a computer, I dont live in the US, I am from Guatemala but I will put the prices in USD for your better understanding. Some key things to note before: Everything is more expensive in my country and even if I purchase the components on Amazon and pay interantional shipping for them, it will cost almost the same as if I bought them here, so there is no huge benefit from this (I already did the numbers). Knowing this, my budget is $1,400.00 (this would be the equivalent to $950 in the US). Some other aspects for why I want to buld my computer and what I am aiming for: Would like to game at 1080p with 100+fps I just want to game all recent and upcoming games smoothly I do not stream and will not stream. I don´t do video/photo/3d editing or anything related to heavy programming. My computer will be used mostly for gaming and media. I want to build a futureproof gaming pc (at least one that will last me 4-5 years) I am planning to purchase a high end Nvidia GPU in the future. The components I have in mind: CPU: Ryzen 3600x ($300) (If you guys think it is necessary I can upgrade to the 3700x ($425) but if there is no benefit in the long run lets avoid that extra cash.) MB: Asus TUF B450 PLUS ($146) or TUF B450m ($118)(These 2 are the cheapest ones I could find and that are kinda acceptable by the community) RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8 DDR4 LPX 3000Mhz ($120) (this is the fastest RAM available I could find in stores) PSU: Corsair CX650 80plus Bronze ($89) (this is the best one I could find without going to far for a "Gaming" branded PSU from Asus ROG wich is stupidly expensive) GPU: Nvida GTX 1660 SUPER ($319) (I plan to upgrade it in at least 3 years) Storage: 2tb FireCuda Drive ($126) (if you believe this is no necessary I can get a 2tb Barracuda for half the price) SSD: M.2 Green WD 128 GB ($33) (this will be used for the OS only) All of this will go inside a Corsair H110R Case ($65) My main questions: Are these components good enough for what I have in mind? Are these components going to work good together? Specially the MOBO with the CPU (take the 3700x into consideration here too) What other options do you recommend, so that I can look for them here and see if they are available and affordable. Overall if this is a good build Thank you in advance for your assistance and patience on this.
  12. Down below is the same build from 2 different websites I put together. My main things I wanted was the 1660 super. So I went first got it then went on gathering other parts which fit the purpose or were the best bang for the buck components. Also I will get more storage afterwards. I also have a pic of possible peripherals since this is gonna be my first pc and and I wanted to build a nice setup with it. I will try to get the parts from wherever I get them the cheapest either Amazon,MD computers or Offline. At first I thought of going with the 1650 super but after watching benchmarks I wasn't quite satisfied so thought of going with it's big brother the 1660 super although it did hurt my budget of 50k INR still I think I can get away with it. Also I will not be buying all the peripherals at once(budget problems obvio). Although I will still be buying the monitor which I have watched a lot of reviews of and I think would definitely satisfy me. I would mainly use this rig for Gaming and Coding/Game developing (since I aspire of becoming one a day) and a little bit of 3d rendering or editing here and there. I want to know what other people think of this!
  13. Hello guy, i have a problem finding the names on some components on a card i want to fix. as you will see in the pictures, i got the on next to GPU removed it was cracked and i couldn't read it's name to google it up. same thing on the ones on the back of the card, i hope if someone have a card like this one who can help me by checking out the names of the parts on his or her card. or maybe you know them feel free to comment below. i tested everything,i want to replace them and see if the card can be saved. it's for a friend of mine, i hope that the pictures are clean enough so you can see what components i am talking about. thank you
  14. Hi everyone! so i´m currently searching components for my new gaming/editing/studying/opening10000tabsonchrome pc, the thing is , with so many options for stuff like ram, ssd, etc. im kinda lost..... i somehow managed to build a rig after watching like a thousand top picks for xxxx. So i would love to hear your recommendations/advices, especially since i want this to be a "future proof" pc . Im gonna use it mostly for gaming, graphic design and video editingIm gonna write the why of every choice i made regarding each component, feel free to comletely destroy those if neccesaryCPU: I7 9700 - im not sure wheter i should go for a K or non K version, i´ve never overclocked in my life and i hate high temperatures, but if i can maybe overclock a bit without too much temp increase then maybe i should go for k?GPU: 1080 Ti Asus Strix - My current graphics card, planning to go for a 2080 ti from the same brand in a futureMOTHERBOARD: Gygabyte Aorus z390 Ultra - not much here, i choose it based on the other componentsRAM: Corsair Dominator RGB 3200 Cl16 or Corsair Dominator RGB 3600 CL18 - Where i live this two are at the same price as the g skill z and some others, so they are not expensive, however, i dont know wich one to choose.....STORAGE: Samsung 860 EVO AND WD Black SN750 NVMe - im planning on using the western digital to gaming and the samsung for the rest of the activitiesPOWER SUPPLY: EVGA G2 850/ G3 1000/ GQ1000 OR Thermaltake Tp Grand 850 - all 4 are 80 plus gold, the thermaltheke one is also modular(same as some evga) but the price difference is frickin big, although this is the only component in wich i dont care how much do i need to spend, as long as i get something very good. I need a minimum of 850(right now i dont need them, but who knows in 2 years?)CPU FAN: Cooler Master Hyper 212 - its price makes it a great choice(when compared with something like the Noctua NH-D15, the later costing almost triple)CASE: I dont know this one, im still chosing, not many Full Tower options to choose from(again, where i live) maybe i could go for a nzxt h710i, but i kinda want a full tower, it just feels better leaving more room for each component, also more fans and such...So that´s basically it, hoping to see what do you think of it!
  15. Hello, so basically i have an problem with my GPU? when i got my new rx 570 8gb i couldnt go into my bios it is corrupted, i can click enter bios but when i do that it just gives me a blackscreen. hdmi cabel is plugged in the graphics card i do have a TV to play on my PC specs: Cpu: AMD ryzen 5 2400g 3.9 overclocked Graphics card: Rx 570 gigabyte 8gb Ram: 8gb of ram ddr4 3000mhz Motherboard: Msi b450 pro vdh plus PSU: be quiet system power 9 400w Some picuters which may give out some useful information
  16. So my graphic card died few month ago and I haven't been using my PC ever since. I am now planning install a RTX 2070 Super in it but before that I wanted to make sure that all the components in my PC are working properly. The problem is that there's no Graphic card and no On-board display port and there's no way for me to connect a display to it. I am using Asus X99 deluxe mother board.
  17. Hi, I was wondering if there are any components that would get hard bottlenecked in this Rig I am building for Black Friday. Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 16GB Corsair force Series MP510 960GB M.2 SSD Amd Ryzen 7 2700x ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming, Socket-AM4 Corsair Vengeance 750M, 750W PSU And the ASUS Geforce RTX 2070 ROG STRIX OC 8gb. Different components would be helpful as tips if there are any.
  18. Hello guys, I haven’t been active in forums much, but now wanna use this as a way of looking for advice. Please excuse any noob-ish mistakes. initial situation: - 3 users in 3 different locations .... that’s why web access will be a major factor - my connection (where the server will be located) : 500mbit/s down - 50mbit/s up - other users: about 100mbit/s down - 10-20mbit/s up - every user should be able to upload images which preferably can be organized in some kind of program and can also all be accessed by everyone - every user should also be able to use the server as a backup for different PCs (both Windows and Mac) and use it as general file sharing - I do have experience in building desktop PCs and have a generally good knowledge of hardware - I don’t have old hardware laying around to reuse - budget preferably around the 500€ range or less, but possibly more if necessary and worth it - noise and power efficiency are a concern Questions: Self build or get something pre build like a Synology “xyz” I’m thinking self build can save me money, it’ll be fun cause I like tech and it can be adapted to my purpose better and can be expanded better. - is what I am looking for possible to achieve? - How much storage would make sense? For how much more does one plan? - what about zfs and raid? - I know raid isn’t a backup, so how would I realize a backup for the server data itsself? Or rather when is another level of backup necessary? - what kind of OS would be used? I heard of plenty of options like freenas, Ubuntu, windows server, unraid...... Do different OSs affect power consumption and CPU requirements significantly or all the all kinda equal? - How does one choose/decide on an OS? - server or consumer hardware? I’ve a lot more knowledge of consumer hardware and would kinda prefer that because of that I guess. But tell me otherwise if beneficial. - how much CPU power is necessary? Since I read in multiple threads, that once you have a server one will keep adding features and use it more and more for different applications I don’t wanna limit the future usability by getting a too weak CPU. From what I can gather something along the lines of a quad core should suffice!? - how much ram does a server need for my basics tasks? what would be future proof? How does one estimate the ram needs of a server in general? - do I need a gpu/apu? Or rather how do the GUIs of the different OSs work? - Do I need to worry about security when thinking about web access and so on? - the connection of the users and me are sufficient once the biggest chunks of data have been loaded onto the server from what I can tell. Incremental PC backups should and occasional photo uploads shouldn’t be too slow. - read and write speeds won’t need to be top of the line, since over the web the connections petty much cap out around 6,25 mb/s right? so I would only need to consider my local network speed which is 1 Gbit/s if any I guess. - when does an ssd cache make sense? - I read a lot about VMs. What can be VMs be used for? When does using one make sense? How much more CPU and RAM would implementing VMs require? - what other server applications are most common and useful for private use? Sorry for the wall of text. I thought about this topic for quite a while now and also read many different threads. I hope my questions are clear and make sense. I’d be very grateful for any advice and tips I can get. Thanks a lot to everyone in advance! musicbreaker
  19. It seems that some online stores are selling "Upgrade Kits" that include New generation CPU's but with last gen "compatible" Motherboards. Which, in all technicality, is a good way to move older stock and since its still supported. No issues... Right? With both Intel and AMD upgrade kit options, a good amount of very budget friendly and darn good spec bundles include the latest Gen CPU's with the last Gen Supported Motherboards. The issue is they sell these upgrade kits without Properly warning the buyer that their new CPU and Motherboard are NOT compatible out of the box. These kits assume you are upgrading from a 1st or 2nd gen Ryzen to a 3rd Gen and can update the BOIS to a betaBIOS which supports your new CPU using your old one, and similarly with Intel. Most commonly with "B" series Motherboards. However you may very likely be upgrading from a 6th gen Intel to the New Ryzen 7 3700X or whatever... and CANNOT update the BIOS yourself. Example: https://www.evetech.co.za/amd-ryzen-5-3400g-prime-b450m-k-8gb-ddr4-upgrade-kit/best-deal/6373.aspx Source: https://www.pcgamesn.com/amd-ryzen-3000-cpus-x570-x470-b450-motherboard-performance I am a PC technician and see this too often where no one can assist the buyers to get their new Components working, since not many stock 2nd Gen Ryzen to be opened just to update a BIOS. If you are considering to purchase any of there 'Upgrade Kits" please do a bit more research whether you may even be able to use your new tech. Edit: Also just found this: Source: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100
  20. I am confused out of my mind about which GPU to choose for my build...On one side is Sapphire's stock variant of the 5700 XT by AMD https://www.sapphiretech.com/en/consumer/21293-01-40g-radeon-rx-5700-xt-8g-gddr6And on the other side are these "OC" variants of the 2060 super by NvidiaVariant 1:-https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-RTX-2060-SUPER-VENTUS-OCVariant 2:-https://www.gigabyte.com/in/Graphics-Card/GV-N206SWF2OC-8GD-rev-10#kfI'm pretty sure the 5700 XT is overall a better card but I also heard about its bad thermals and noise problem. As I live in India, thermals are a huge problem as temperatures can reach upto over 45°C in the summers. The price of all these are more or less the same in the local and online markets.Your thoughts?
  21. I've been wondering if it's possible to have dual channel at the same while adding a third ram stick (hynix) without losing performance? System: Motherboard: Asus b85m-e/csm Gskill ddr 3 2x4gb ram 1600 Hynix 4gb ddr 3 single 1600
  22. I would ask this on a website from my country. but there aren't any, so i am just gonna hope some of you guys know what i'm talking about. So I am looking to build a new pc and i stumbled upon some great deals on a sh site(only does business within my country) that had brand new SEALED components, with no warranty unfortunate, for damn cheap. At least when talking about motherboards. Does anyone know if there is a catch? The guys who usually sell those kind of stuff have lots of offers, like 5-10 type of boards(both for am4 and 1151) and every cpu that launched recently(all ryzen chips + all 8th & 9th gen intel). Not even gonna start on gpus. The thing is they are all "sealed, brand new" but without warranty. I live in Europe, Romania if that matters.
  23. Hi there guys, I am new to LTT forums and I have been following the channel for a year now. I am trying to build a rig that handles small photogrammetry projects and gaming. Since I live in Ecuador, a country located in South America, I don't have easy access to PC components, so I bought what I could and wanted to know if this mess wil work somehow. My tower has a micro-ATX Pegatron Odense Motherboard that supports up to 2x8 GB DDR3 RAM at 1600 MHz each (can't really upgrade to DDR4 because the motherboard doesn't support it), an Intel Core i7-6700K processor, a NVIDIA GEFORCE 1660 6GB graphics card, a Samsung 860 QVO 1 TB SSD, a Seagate Barracuda 2 TB HDD (7200 rpm) and a Cougar Gaming 600W PSU. I am running Windows 10 and the photogrammetry software is known as AliceVision Meshroom. Thank you for your help! :)
  24. This thread is nothing major I was just looking for suggestions for my rig. Currently it has a i7 6700 (non K) an AsRock Z170 Pro4 motherboard (wasted on a non K I know but it is very pretty) 8GB Corsair LPX 2X4GB, Asus Strix GTX 970, CoolerMaster 212 evo with 2 120mm NZXT fans instead of the one that came on the cooler with its gawdy red LEDs, EVGA 600w PSU, 40GB SSD for OS and nothing more, 120GB SSD for programs, 500GB drive for games and another for media and it’s all wrapped together in a nice all black NZXT H500 case. Looking for suggestions to look at so as to keep it running smoothly or better. I don’t think it’s worth upgrading my mobo or CPU as its not an editing rig or streaming system it is literally a gaming and media machine at this point with some light audio recording on the side. Plays everything I want in high settings and a lot of stuff in ultra but prices are dropping at the moment for stuff like RAM and even GPUs so that’s not out of the question. If it’s worth upgrading I’ll look in to it but if I get comments saying it’s fine as it is I think I’ll just leave it alone and enjoy it. The thing is really pretty to look at. Got 2 orange fans at the front and then 2 LED strips across the top and back which I’ve set to blue and the colours compliment each other nicely. First rig I ever tried my hand at making look good so either way I’m proud of it, though the blasted sleeved cable for my mobo doesn’t sit perfectly straight in the case but nevermind. Suggestions folks?
