For a little while now, I've been having an issue with any application that uses Chromium for its UI, such as Google Chrome, Edge, Steam, Discourd, Adobe CC, etc. With hardware acceleration enabled, the application will start and will display a blank screen. The UI elements within the window are still interactive (like minimize, maximize, close in the top right corner), as well as others if you know where they are to click on them. MS Edge window in attached screenshot. When hardware acceleration is disabled (such as with the --disable-gpu switch or via config file), the applications display just fine. I've been using this workaround for a while now, but anytime an application is updated, I have to go do the "fix" again. Some apps aren't so easy, like discord. While the workaround works for most applications, it doesn't work for everything and it's a workaround. There's something else causing the problem. Additionally, when I create a fresh account (both admin and standard) on the PC and open the applications on the new account, the apps work just fine. Edge and Chrome both open and display as expected. I feel this rules out hardware (also the issue persisted through a GPU upgrade) and user profile agnostic issues like GPU drivers and base O/S corruption. All software and drivers are up-to-date as far as I can tell. Does anyone have any additional troubleshooting ideas or settings I can mess with? I've already tried the top google results (delete chrome's shader cache, re-install chrome, drivers, etc) Windows 10 pro 64-bit Intel i7 9700K Asus RTX 4080 Asus MOBO with latest BIOS

Hey guys, does anyone know how I can put different Chromium/Electron-based application audio sources on different outputs in pipewire? I have a GoXLR and I would like to have for example Tidal on my music device fader and Discord on my system device fader. In pipewire they are both listed as Chromium and when I change one to another output, any node.name = "Chromium" gets assigned that and this is annoying. I tried to change the name on the node with this snippet in `~/.config/wireplumber/main.lua.d/51-tidal-rename.lua` rule = { matches = { { { "application.process.binary", "equals", "tidal-hifi" }, }, }, apply_properties = { ["node.description"] = "TIDAL Hi-Fi", ["node.nick"] = "TIDAL Hi-Fi", }, } table.insert(alsa_monitor.rules, rule) but that did not work. Spotify didn't had this issue, because it had a proper linux client, but tidal only has the community ported web player wrapped in electron as a flatpak. I also tried the AppImage and it has the same problem. I can't try the .deb version because it depends on libappindicator3-1 and this causes a lot of other issues: sudo nala install Downloads/tidal-hifi_5.7.1_amd64.deb Notice: The following will be installed to satisfy tidal-hifi: libappindicator3-1 =================================================================================================================================== Installing =================================================================================================================================== Package: Version: Size: tidal-hifi 5.7.1 266 KB libappindicator3-1 12.10.1+20.10.20200706.1-0ubuntu1 23 KB =================================================================================================================================== Auto-Removing =================================================================================================================================== Package: Version: Size: libayatana-ido3-0.4-0 0.9.3-1 189 KB libayatana-indicator3-7 0.9.3-1 115 KB python3-pyudev 0.24.0-1 199 KB python3-xlib 0.33-2 737 KB =================================================================================================================================== Removing =================================================================================================================================== Package: Version: Size: gir1.2-ayatanaappindicator3-0.1 0.5.92-1.2 32 KB libayatana-appindicator3-1 0.5.92-1.2 89 KB solaar 1.1.9+dfsg-1 1.6 MB spotify-client 1:1.2.26.1187.g36b715a1 290.8 MB =================================================================================================================================== Summary =================================================================================================================================== Install 2 Packages Auto-Remove 4 Packages Remove 4 Packages Total download size 23 KB Disk space to free 293.7 MB Do you want to continue? Issue started a few months ago just before I started college, but only has become annoying when my sleep timings became horrible. Every night at 01:07 (GMT) a new tab opens with www.google.com for reason i can think of, my search engine of choice is duckduckgo so I've clue clue why its doing this, and I want it to stop as it feels like google hates me for ditching them. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance

It stopped loading about 7-10 days ago, and I have no idea how to diagnose and/or resolve. I haven't done anything significant on my machine in terms of updates, patches, new installs, etc in the last month so it isn't self-inflicted that I can tell. I haven't seen anything else with any problems, and I haven't found anything helpful inn my searches. I have attached a snip from syslog that shows what happens when I try and start it, but it doesn't help me at all. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. My build is: Linux Mint 20.3 Una (5.4.0-126-generic, Cinnamon 5.2.7 Desktop) running on the following: Intel i7-4790K running at stock speed (4.00Ghz) 16 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400MHz NVidia GeForce GT740 graphics ChromiumTrace.txt

I've been having an issue where my discord/spotify/computer audio freezes for 10 or so seconds when I launch Chromium web browsers. I reformatted my computer on a new SSD over the weekend for and reinstalled windows for unrelated reasons. I figured this would also solve my audio issue. Unfortunately, this problem is still occurring. I've tested Edge, Opera, and Chrome and they all freeze my computer audio on launch. Firefox (not chromium based) does not cause this to happen. Has anyone else run into this or know of a cause/solution?

Hi I need a bit of help. This can be a discussion too would love to see what yall use bc we tend to never have a wall around our own world as I recently come across someone who never used chrome or even never even heard of it, always use firefox. Discussion welcome. Note after I have written it all, I went into more detail and longer then I intended, I'll leave it as is. The main point is the chromium based browser alternative suggestion I need. Also my head is munble jumbo a bit so it is no clearly put together of a thread. For the related help I need. I love the simplicity and design of chromium but when I need a secondary task bar app, I am using Sr Iron browser for now but it won't stay signed in google after 4-8 hours and it is annoying when I have google sign in to leave it and run ups and processes over night it just pauses and ask to re sign in. I have to sign in inside the drop service app section, nothing happens on google.com big sign in letters when I click on it. I installed Chromium but here is a problem as Chromium and SRIron Win recognise them as one app and defer me to the SRiron setting. I do not want use Brave, Vivaldi or Opera(I am way not confident in Opera) or something too different looking and square. Edge is out as it freezes so often that I have to move back to Chrome lately. One that I loved before was the Torch browser, but the official download and support is no ore, I ended up uninstall it before anyway too as I can not find a way for it to not be my default application in opening stuff as it is my secondary browser and for other type of files as well, especially one it is so annoying. I tried everything, regdit, win settings by name, by file type association, by protocole(though not as helpfull as it is more type type but it doesn't have in the setting if it did I tried it), open app with, and on the app I wanted to use itself make default. On that note, if anyone have any ideas to force out a app so it is not the default will be appreciated. It will have to be Chromium based. Any suggestions? Or if anyone knows how to force SRIron to stay log in and the sign in letter to redirect as you would expect. I dunno if it is just a bug or a feature as it is privacy oriented but not to the extreme is their description. Or make them run as 2 instance of the same app with two app icon. I do not want chrome dev, beta etc as I want it to be distinctively a different Icon. Mostly to run processes and handle data ups and re etc.

I recently tried out ungoogled chromium. A big problem I've run into is it will not play drm protected content and from what I've read I think I need to update widevine content decryption module. I cannot find any useful instruction on how to do this on windows 10. How can I update this, and is there a relatively simple way to update this and other parts in the browser's components? Chromium version 110.0.5481.177 (Official Build, ungoogled-chromium) (64-bit) Widevine Content Decryption Module - Version: 0.0.0.0

I've automated a number of backup/archiving tasks on my Linux Mint machine, but have run into one task that doesn't see doable except manually. It seems that Chrome/Chromium stores passwords in an encrypted data store, which I can easily back up, but it seems the key is tied to the current user and DOES NOT work if you have to rebuild the machine or do a full OS upgrade. I'm not interested in uploading/storing the data with Google for security reasons. Am I wrong about any of this, or is there a way to robustly export/archive this data like there is with Firefox?

There's been this pop up that shows up once in a while and I know it's malicious. I've tried looking up solutions to get rid of it and ran more than a few malware/virus scans, none have worked. I tried deleting the Chromium folder under Appdata\Local, but it keeps coming back. So the question is, how can I completely remove Chromium and/or the pop-up thing?

Before I begin, I'm new here... so hi. Anyway, I'm having a problem with Chromium crashing on me as soon as it opens. There's no warning or anything, it just closes itself. I found out that it does this after the second time I open it after installation, the "default" folder in the appdata folder is what seems to be causing it to close, as deleting it makes the browser start again, but then if I close then reopen, the problem returns. Regardless of whether I have it signed into an account, it still crashes. None of the solutions I have found online have worked... I have tried reinstalling the program many times, and disabling my anti-virus/firewall, but the problem persists. What do I do?

So this "recommended" update keeps randomly popping up and will not go away until I end it in task manager. I've gone to through Windows updater and it is saying there's no updates for my pc, so where is this coming from? Did it come from a virus or what? Thank you in advance for any help.

Earlier today, I was updating adobe flash on windows 10 and suddenly an undeletable search bar popped up and the Chromium icon appeared. I tried deleting it using task manager and registry editor, but every time I restart the computer Chromium reappeared. No matter where I go on Windows, that annoying search bar is always there. Is there any other way to completely remove Chromium from my PC?

Microsoft Edge is now Chromium-based, and the web hath frozen over. So, is the new Edge worth trying now, or is it all just a gimmick? Edge Dev Channel: https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/download

I downloaded something accidentally and I can’t find it and now I have something called avast antivirus, segurazo antivirus, and another app called chromium that have just appeared. Over half of my ram is being used and keeps creating more files that malware bytes can’t keep up the quarantine with. I ran a scan with malwarebytes and it found 10k+ threats and it quarantined all of them but every time it does, more threats keep coming and idk what to do plz hellpppp!! Ty

Source: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/01/22/google_chrome_browser_ad_content_block_change/ Its probably unrelated... But anyone remember in 2013 when there were reports that Google payed Adblock Plus to not black ads? If I recall this led many people to uBlock Origin. Speaking of which: TLDR: This new API would let Google Chrome (And Chromium) bypass extensions that the user installed in relation to web traffic. All in the name of 'Privacy'. This has the potential to affect many kinds of extensions. Adblockers, are certainly the most commonly sited one, but other privacy oriented extensions, or those that block everything like No-Script could be affected. Ad-Block Plus doesn't seem to be affected due to the way it works, but Ad-Block Plus is known to let Ads through if they get payed. EDIT: If you want to read more Here is uBlockOrigin's GitHub page about this: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/338 Or you can read the bug report here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=896897&desc=2#c23 There are people there who certainly understand more then I do. This is not exactly my field. Update! Jan 23 2019 ABP is affected, just not as hard. My personal thoughts: Recall that recently Microsoft announced Edge is being rebuilt with Chromium, and that makes Chrome based browsers a very large majority. I am not quite sure I trust Google when they say they are doing something for 'Privacy'. The two don't exactly go hand in hand... And since Google is often the provider of these ads, there certainly is a profit motive to have chrome bypass ad blockers, specially since 26% of Desktop users turn on ad blockers. There is a lot of money to be had. And that is suuuuure tempting beautiful shiny, jolly candy like button to press. - Something tells me they would press it. The story is fairly new, and not a lot of developers have commented on it yet, but I am sure this kind of change would affect more then just Ad-Blockers. I do have to question how the browser determines when it should handle something, and when the extension should. I can imagine just like with Anti-Viruses there can be false positives which may cause issues with more obscure extensions, and webpages. Maybe it's time for you guys to give Firefox another try eh. ?

chromium Windows on Chromium...
Sean_Luscombe posted a topic in Linux, macOS and Everything Not-Windows
I'm wondering why I can't run Windows in Virtual Box on Chromium. I've a laptop that I have installed Chromium onto. I have VirtualBox installed also now on said Laptop running Chromium. Yet I can't find a way of selecting the iso file for boot in VirtualBox? Tried using it from an external USB, and I also tried copying it to the local downloads folder but I couldn't figured out how to even browse to that and if I did it was empty. Sorry I can't get a screenshot of VB selecting the iso image. Any feedback if this is A) even possible and B) where I'm going wrong would be greatly appreciated. Cheers- 1 reply

I guess Microsoft moving over to Chromium for their browser is a Net benefit. They are trying to bake things better for their own browser which in turns makes things better for lots of browsers. Sweet! Learn more here: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/10/15/form-controls-microsoft-edge-chromium/#fiIIxFxb518xr3ZD.97

Note: Wasn't sure if this was more appropriate as an independent thread or under programmer lounge, I can move it if that's better. As a personal project, I wanted to build a chromium based browser, nothing earthshattering, mostly just a reskin with little change to the core functionality of the engine. However, in researching doing this, I've not been able to find any guides or documentation of this kind of process that isn't quite outdated. Most of what chromium documentation seems to be geared more towards those looking to contribute to chromium's repo and less towards using it yourself. If anyone has any experience/or sees something obvious that I missed (the most likely thing) I'd greatly appreciate it. (sorry if this is a stupid question) thanks!
