First I wanna say thank you for taking the time to read what I can only assume to be the worst dumpster fire of a situation, My pc’s mobo is a Prime z370-A, I used to run windows 10 pro and now on windows 11 because of the journey to madness, the reason I went from a utp cat 6 to a cat 8 flat is because of damage and common disconnecting due to the old cable, things I have tried to get the motherboard to notice the cable that is now connected consist of network resting, dns flushing, ip/dns release and renewing, updating the driver through the windows feature even tried to get the new ones from the manufacturer but to no use, and yes I did try turning it on and off again, oh there is also the method from bios where I tried the onboard devices thing, any help is appreciated.

live in a apt with so many wifi signals want to hook up several devices fast as posible. the isp is 1000.0 Mbps dn / 100.0 up that frequently gose beond ratings. sadly only location mom can be wired is well in another room. so wanting to run a switch with cat8 csables since it is being rebuilt to double the downloads over times. the test that just ran is getin 117% of plan speeds curently. dont ke gona have to run a 50+ foot cable so no tripping hazzards. only has to go over 1 door atleast. below are devices plan to conect directly to switch. want to keep a price of 50 or less if possible, but still like reliability. Hi, I recently upgraded to 1 Gbps internet and I was not able to achieve even 900 Mbps of download speed. Max I could go is 650 Mbps on a CAT8 cable. While I thought it was my ISP, it turned out to be that on the test engineer's newer machine (Core i7 9th generation) it reached 940 Mbps. I am running a Core i7- 4790K and while I can run most of the applications on this computer, this is the first time I am doubting it. Is my CPU too slow to achieve Gigabit internet speed? Thanks,

Hi Guys! Managed to get my hands on some excess CAT8 cabling and CAT8 specific RJ45 connectors. I'm looking online and it seems to support 25-40Gbe, wondering what I need to get to get up to that.. Was looking at the Mikrotik switches but the ports are QSFP+ for the 40G? My terminations will probably be RJ45, is there an adapter for RJ45 to QSFP+ 40G? All I can see are RJ45 to SFP and they're max 10G... Would really welcome your input!

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is healthy and distancing. I would like to hard wire network my home. I have been looking into this for years at this point, but I think possibly by this winter I want to pull the trigger and do it, so I have a lot of time between now and then to buy what I need. I live in southern Texas, so doing it now is out of the question do to the heat in my attic. I'd like to run my cables through my attic and down my walls to my PC, my sons PC, my NAS, Nvidia shield, apple TV, PS4, Xbox One, and wireless router. I am fairly new to networking apart from setting up my wifi routers, and a switch confuses me, I don't understand what it means when its said that the switch creates networks and the router connects the different networks. Question #1 Do I go from modem, to router, to switch or from modem, to switch, to router? I have seen both suggested. Question #2 What is a good switch to get? I'd like at least gigabit, I would say 10 gigabit but I don't think any items on my network have a 10 gigabit connection. Question #3 Is there even a point to 10 gigabit? Would that allow items to connect to my internet better or just to each other better? I know from LTT's video "Home 10 Gig Network Upgrade for CHEAP" that 10 gigabit is somewhat affordable, albeit not cheap. Would having that "room to breathe" in network allow better net connection? I am getting gigabit speed from ISP, so I know that having a 10 gigabit network won't magically give me a 10 gigabit internet connection(that would be awesome though). Question #4 What is a good switch to get? I was looking at some Linksys ones, since that is what I have usually had for routers, and current router is a Linksys(Max-Stream AC5400), but I just want a good one. Question #5 I can afford Cat8 cable from pricing I have found, and I'd like to future proof this network, so is there a reason to not get Cat8? Question #6 My modem is a Arris Surfboard SB8200 and I am paying for gigabit from my ISP(Grande), can anyone tell me why when I connect my PC directly to the modem I get basically the full gigabit but when my PC is connected through router, which is all on same desk my speeds are usually 300mbps or less.

Apologies that this is kinda long-winded, but I've attempted to cut out the fat while also giving as many details as possible, hoping there's some clues in there for those of you that are far more privy to networking than i am. Thank you in advance for reading this, should you choose to. I had Spectrum internet 200 Mbps Cat8 from my router into my room, connected to this network switch Bought two 3-feet Cat8 to go from switch to my PS4 and my first ever PC (built last week after watching a lot of LTT) Consistently ~230 Mbps download speeds on both PS4 and PC Wireless speed tests on all devices never reached above 50 Mbps Called Spectrum, upgraded to 400 Mbps Still worked flawlessly via hardwire on PS4, averaging about 300-350 Mbps, and the PC pushing 480 Mbps wifi still horrendous Called Spectrum, they come and replace the both the Modem and the Router BAM! First time I've ever had 430+ Mbps wifi on my phone/laptop/wifi. They almost feel like new devices. Now, I'm browsing the internet on my wired PC and I have Twitch up, watching a friend stream. He keeps buffering, skipping, and then eventually I get a black screen network error (#2000) and a decoding error (#3000). I refresh, nothing, I try other streamers and I get the same errors. I google these two errors and I follow every instruction on how to clear these; clear cache disable hardware acceleration and I tried the Twitch PC app, Firefox, and Explorer -- same deal. This only started happening after the router and modem were swapped. I thought, "Whatever, Twitch is just being weird" and booted up my PS4 to play some Apex Legends with some friends. We successfully play one match, and back out to the lobby. I appear to be the only one readied up, so I'm just I'm just waiting there talking with my friends and they go, "Hey Chris, where'd you go?" Uhh, I'm in the lobby waiting for you to ready up? "We're already in the game..." They join my party and I disappear, I join them and they connect to the match and I don't, etc. Really weird. I uninstall, and begin to download...and it gives me an ETA of 6 hours for this 40 GB file. It took me an hour to download the 100 GB Warzone application when I was on 200 Mbps download speeds a month prior... Call Spectrum I explain the buffering on Twitch via Chrome, Firefox and the app on my PC and two laptops on WiFi, the horrendous wired download speeds on PS4, and how this all started after the modem and router were replaced. They reset the connection to the modem and router, and that fixes nothing. In fact, the download speeds are now back to 200-230 Mbps. Spectrum tells me to give it time... Work the next day (this morning) Speed tests on my work computer are still 200 Mbps Call Spectrum They reset everything yet again, and we finally get the speed back up to 430+ Mbps Skype meeting for work Screen share I'm watching is pixelated, buffering a ton, and I am thrown out of the call several times. Throughout the day, dozens of times per hour, my Skype disconnects and reconnects, prompting my manager to ask "Are you having internet issues?" Fuck yeah I am I'm missing Skype messages through the desktop app and half of them are coming through via WiFi on the Skype app on my phone instead. I test out Apex again, and the same deal as the night before. I start testing hardware: New Cat6 cable from PS4 to same port in Switch: issues persist Speed test my girlfriend's PC -- Cat6 into different port on the switch: 480 Mbps Use that Cat6 and plug into my PS4: anywhere between 7 Mbps up to 70 Mbps Speed test my PC, Cat8: 480 Mbps Swap the PC Cat8 into the PS4: 2 out of 10 tests gave me 300+ Mbps, the rest sub 50 Mbps Swap the PS4 Cat8 into the PC: 480 MBps So at this point I think I've eliminated the issue being the network switch and the cables, as any combination of cables and switch ports didn't help the PS4. Wifi on this PS4 was anywhere between 6 Kbps and 30 Mbps. Wifi on different PS4 in a different room (further from router): consistently in the 200-300 Mbps range This different PS4 hardwired directly into the router: consistently in the 300 Mbps range. This different PS4 wired into switch using Cat8 in multiple ports: 7-70 Mbps This next bit makes me think this is a switch issue: PS4 with issues wired directly into the router: consistently 300-380 Mbps speeds... However, I'm not certain this is a speed issue: Even if my speed is between the 7-70 Mbps speeds while wired, I shouldn't be having the connectivity issues I am having, right? My wired work computer was still clocking speeds of 480 Mbps while also giving me connectivity issues with Skype and my work VPN Speeds of 480 Mbps still give Twitch buffering/error code issues on PC/work laptop/personal laptop I sat on hold for nearly 2 hours with Spectrum tonight, and another hour on the phone troubleshooting. They reset everything again, which again caused the speeds to reset to 200 Mbps...and then they fixed that yet again and they're back to 400+. I've ordered a new gigabit network switch, even though I'm not 100% certain that's the issue. Right now I'm pointing at the new Modem and Router as the culprits, since these issues arose immediately after they were installed, yet Spectrum says everything is connected and testing A-OK on their end. Any insight or advice appreciated, as I feel like I'm all out of options and not only is this affecting my gaming/entertainment, it's now affecting my ability to work from home... Speed test on this PC taken right before posting, just for fun:

CAT8 Ethernet Cables (40Gbps 2000Mhz) ... where have you been all my life! For many years, have run a small home network, consisting of the usual stuff, printers, games consoles, NAS, network switch ,Apple TV's, Amazon Fire TV's etc etc Always like to keep ahead of the game when it comes to overall network and internet speeds. However to my detriment, was still employing CAT5 cabling, which I foolishly thought wouldn't play much of a part in overall network performance...how wrong I was! Saw a good deal on Amazon the other day and snagged a selection of CAT8 cables for our home. OMG what a difference it made! Game latency vastly improved, overall ping rates and network jitter way down! File transfer speeds maxed out and stable, heck even firing up GlobalProtect VPN (I work remotely on Wednesdays) was much snappier. Discuss... anyone else running CAT7 OR 8 cabling? Any tips or tricks to tweak networking hardware to take advantage?

Are there any differences that a Cat 8 keystone jack has compared to the other categories? Context: My neighbours are doing renovations and got upsold on some Cat 8 cable and later asked me for help with network stuff since I'm "the guy in the neighbour who knows computers". I've never worked with Cat 8 before and while Google shows that the cables themselves are different I'm not finding much info about the corresponding keystone jacks. Just want to know whether my neighbours will have to get specific jacks. Appreciate any help, all!
