I was trying to fix my neighbour's old laptop. I determined the problem was the OS and needs reinstalling. I tried to put the HDD on my external drive enclosure but when I plugged it in to my desktop. It wont detect the files and just showed up as 4 partition, 3 of them being Local DIsk somehow. Also when plugged the usb controller gone haywire somehow. Then I tried using Ubuntu via bootable usb stick hopping maybe it can read it. And you know what it did. But I can't transfer the file to my computer drives 'cause it detects it as a read only drive Can someone helped with transferring these files.

My pc Mainbord : Msi b450 tomahawk max Bios Updated to the last version (350) Cpu : ryzen 3600 Ram : Corsair Vengeance lpx 16gb, 3200 Gpu :gtx 1070 M. 2 samsung 970 evo NVMe m.2 2 hdd sata I had an ssd from samsung 850 and after 1 years suddenly it stop working So i replace it with m. 2 and i had a problem to install windows 10 pro Than i find out that i have to unplug all sata yo be able to install windows on m. 2 The problem i need help with : yesterday my windows suddenly stopped working and i have to install it again But the problem that i cant install it Or lets say i cant boot the installation mode I have like 3 usb with windows One used windows tool to create it And 2 more used rufus in 2 different ways But still cant boot windows installation mode The bios detected all of them And i change boot to uefi And change to uefi + legacy With uefi the screen stay black and after couple of seconds restart With uefi + legacy the windows logo show and same after couple of seconds restart again and again Never entered windows installation I will really be thankful to everyone helps me out

So if you read the tags you understand my Dilemma, I have a Windows 10 professional, fun gaming rig a built a few months back. I've never had any problems with the sound before. I have an NVIDIA 970 running the sound and video through an HDMI Also I bought a Focusrite Scarlet solo installed the software (delicately and properly) and have a pair of Beyerdynamics 880 premiums plugged in through an 1/8" cable. It only lags when I run it through their driver. Thought it might be some problem with the NVIDIA driver so I uninstalled it, checked and restored my disk. Nothing. Thought it might be my motherboard's audio driver (Realtek) so I uninstalled that, and checked it, and restored it. Nope Thought it might be a weird hard drive problem so I defragged it, nah. Just watching Youtube it does it, and it's starting to tick me off. I FINALLY SAVE UP AND BUY NICE HEADPHONES AND THEY DON'T WORK ON MY PC, NOOOOOOOOOOOO. HELP! When they aren't lagging they sound like heaven, and I just them to work liddat all the time! Also interestingly enough the usb ports on the front of the case don't work anymore. EDIT: Sometimes I should type slower. EDIT: Pigeon for style.

So, i'm trying to install Kali Linux on my old laptop but it won't take me to the kali install thing. It takes me to the GNU Grub thing to choose if I want to boot into windows or ubuntu. I burned the iso to the dvd. BTW, I already have Ubuntu 16.04 and windows on my system sooooooo yeah. Also, i'm using a external dvd drive. plz help

Heyho to the Ltt community So i installed a programm that apperantly decided it wants to sit on its own drive so it somehow created a new drive https://www.pic-upload.de/view-33306907/1.png.html as seen here it shows the same usage but is actually completely empty when you go inside https://www.pic-upload.de/view-33306909/2.png.html well it was inside where the files from the programm that i had installed funnyly enough when i tried to uninstall the programm it said that the path was invalid and that it cant find the files so i had to move them over to the Games D: drive which is the actual one to be able to uninstall it. Now the iffy thing is that i cant seem to get rid of that "drive" (it is also not shown as a partition in the partition manager https://www.pic-upload.de/view-33306916/3.png.html) No the question is that how do i get rid of this drive thingy in my explorer its super annoying. Getting frustrated with google trying to find this thing (if it even exists), a friend has a little ITX build and his mobo has one of those often-useless female USB3 type-a ports right in the middle of his board, which he wants to use, as his case only has one port, and his mobo I/O only has 1. So i assumed that somewhere in the world, there existed basically a USB3 male to female extension cable, with a PCIe bracket on the female end, so you can screw it into a blank space, but i really am not having much luck finding it. Anyone seen this before ?

Hi! It's not that of a problem more like concern. Boots into Windows just fine, everything within Windows is fine, everything works perfectly BUT While booting, during POST, there is no video output. This doesn't let me get into BIOS. Also sometimes it just doesn't boot at all. Then after a couple of restarts, boots into Windows just like nothing happened, without video on POST again. Tried booting without external GPU, HDMI plugged into motherboard - same result. No video, then BOOM - Windows. Tried to spam DEL while booting - doesn't boot anywhere. Disassembled and reassembled the whole system into other case (without pcie riser pcb), problem remains. Don't know BIOS version HALP!!11! Windows 10 64 bit Intel Core i5-6600k, stock frequencies Asrock z170m-itx/ac (don't judge me i was desperate :D) 2x8Gb DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX 1xSSD Samsung 850 Evo 250Gb 2xHDD 1Tb Zotac GTX 980 AMP!, connected via HDMI Silverstone SX500-LG 500W Video of Booting the System:

Hello guys! I recently started trying out IPv6,and my ISP just updated its VDSL router as well,I hook it up to my new Synology RT1900ac router(connecting WAN through PPPoE),but here comes problem. The biggest is that I can't connect to certain website,like YAHOO!,sometimes even Google,this happens after I hooked it up with the RT1900ac router,I don't know what I've done wrong...(I can ping it,but just can't browse the website through the browsers) I have tried just hooked my VDSL modem(have IPv6 enable as well)and boom!YAHOO,GOOGLE,everything is fine!But when I connect it back through RT1900ac,suddenly it just won't work anymore. If anyone's familiar with RT1900ac,please you must tell me how can I get it work. I have googled and changed my PC's MTU to 1492 and after changing,there's a short period that I can connect to YAHOO,GOOGLE,but then PC changed back to 1500 even though I type the cmd command added store=persistant. Anyone know how to change or set the RT1900ac's LAN DHCP MTU?'cause I didn't find the option anywhere within settings. Much appreciated for any possible solution.

Can't connect to local network ftp server - the port is open - vsftpd service is running - the ip i connecting is listed in "ifconfig" but the ftp client FileZilla can't connect to the server please help

Hey guys, I don't know why but somehow I can not access most websites. Google f.e. works but not much more. Not even on my cellphone when I connect in WLAN. Can anyone tell me what to do there? I write this post even from another internet connection because my other does not even show LTT forum. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I am stuck in the BIOS and can't get out of it to fully boot up. To clarify, I can save and exit the BIOS, but the PC then restarts and goes right back to the BIOS, and it continues this cycle. I don't know what happened, but I had just finished watching a youtube video, stepped away from my computer for a couple minutes, and then came back to find my computer in the BIOS. I can see my ssd boot drive and hard drive in the BIOS, as well as both sticks of RAM which show up. I have tried hard resetting the BIOS by pulling out the coin-sized battery. I have now updated to the latest version of the BIOS (2001). Neither of these things have changed anything. I've tried disabling fast boot and I have CSM enabled; this hasn't changed anything either. I haven't been able to disable secure boot though since it's greyed out (I don't know if that would make a difference). I don't have anything overclocked either. I have no idea what else to do. My computer was working perfectly fine and then this happened out of nowhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! The first month of using my pc was normal but recently it had issues that I cant turn it on via the power switch on the h500i case nor the power switch of the Z390 Ace Meg. The temporary solution that I discovered is to switch off the power supply so no power was running in the motherboard and turn it back on as soon I flick the switch of the power supply. What could be the issue please help.

Hello everyone. Today I ran into an error that won't let me update my Z390 F8 BIOS. I want to update it to F10 since it has got a new optimized update for my CPU. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z390-AORUS-MASTER-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios I've downloaded the bios update from my motherboard website and put in the FAT32 quick formated USB which is put in 3.0port. Once I find the update in the BIOS, I proceed to install it and it gives me this error (BIOS ID CHECK ERROR). Any tips what should I do? -
Hello Guys, Today I received a RGB LED STRIP with a length of 5 meters, but when I turn it off it turns to the most dimmed red. Can someone tell me how to fix this, thanks! From Thom.

Ok so the problem is that i can't turn off Windows Defender no matter what, it always keeps turning itself on, i tried disabling it with regedit, gpedit.msc(group policy i believe), control panel and from windows defender. It just keeps turning itself on

Hi! I'm unable to get to my BIOS... There is no beeps or a message saying something like "press del to enter bios". Yesterday I was still able to get into BIOS just by pressing del. The message was also there I'm not sure about the beep. when I boot it shows the acer logo and boots into windows. Normally in the logo screen the "press del to enter bios" message is in the corner. Now it's nowhere. Help pls.

Sup bois, Recently i decided to build a pc for the second time, after hours of spilling sweat and blood i finally managed to accomplish this task. However I find myself unable to install windows 7 : The issue here is that when i reach "install windows", my keyboard and mouse stop responding(The keyboard and mouse LED lights are still on: i can also change the color of my mouse wheel ). however there is no cursor, i cannot turn of number lock and not a single key is doing anything. > disable legacy: already tried that ; i'm installing windows from a USB storage device and it stops working when i disable legacy, along with the keyboard and mouse. > don't use USB 3.0 also tried, did not change anything. >use a ps/2 keyboard. Don't have ps/2 on my motherboard. Help, lads i have no clue what to do, already bought a noose from amazon so i can end the pain, should arrive in 3 days

Hello! My EVGA GTX 970 SSC looks like it's 'sagging' a little bit, the PCB is bending about 1-2mm down. I'm trying to find backplates for it online but I can't seem to find any. It's out of stock at Amazon, Newegg, and EVGA's website. Does anyone know if they stopped supporting these backplates or if they're just really scarce right now?

Yet my third post in the same section Would have thought I would have gained some knowledge but nope xDD So my previous post, http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/287082-new-gaming-pc-help/, had a budget of around £1000-£2000 but that was due to a job that I was going to get but never actually got ;/ So here I am with a different job and a smaller budget lol, my budget is £600-£800 What I want to have is a PC that can be able to play next gen games at high/ultra graphics at 1920x1080 60+fps i.e. fallout 4, black ops 3 etc. As well as have enough power to be able to stream and record on & use programs such as Photoshop. What I don't need; -OS -Monitors ( I have a 24" monitor, main one, and a 21.5" for my secondary monitor) -Keyboard & mouse -headphones I have some parts I can re-use; -128GB SSD HD -1TB HDD -8GB Ram Third post in the section, and you guys aren't sick of me yet, I hope ;D Love you all -Dan

Hey guys Built this computer ages ago (about 8 months) and its pretty much worked fine untill now, here are the specs: Windows 8 64bit I5820k Asus X-99A GTX 980ti 16gb (2400 I think) 1X 2TB Seagate HDD 1X 1TB WD Black HDD 1x 255(or 230) GB SSD PSW 1000W (Cooler Master) Issue: Ok first, I may have gotten a virus from a jerk in Team Speak last night, but that's only a maybe because the issue has only started about 24 hours after this event. Ok so I was creating something in adobe illustrator and my computer crashed, not blue screened, just straight up crashed and then started to try reboot. After it rebooted I quickly decided to run a scan with avast (just a quick one) JUST in case, but the computer came up clean so I started all over again on the illustrator project (forgot to save ) anyway it very quickly crashed again "Dude, there is something wrong with your illustrator" Nope. I decided this time to do a full system scan, done but nothing found, crash. Then it starts crashing on boot up so now I put it into safe mode, it boots up fine, I open avast and set up a full bootup scan. It crashed before it could even get to the scan... Now it seems that its on a timer, if I turn of the power on the PSU then power up again it might make it 15 second in, shutdown, boot up but only make it 10, then 5, then as low as 1. So now I can't really even put it into safe mode or anything... Ideas? FIxes? Should I find the guy from team speak and beat the crap out of him? Anyway thanks for reading! PLEASE HELP ME!!! EDIT After still trying for ages I think it may be the power supply, as it even crashes in the BIOS and sometimes can't even boot at all... -
Hi there I've just built my first system which wouldn't post but I fixed that. I go to install windows 10 through a usb, that I know works, and it wont get past finishing up. I also tried windows 7, which wont even get to unpacking, and now I'm installing Linux to see if that works. Some people have suggested that it could be the memory. Thank you very much for your time.

Recently I've been looking into bitcoin and the mining side of it really excites and interests me but before i go into my detail and look whether it is profitable for me i want to understand a few things about bitcoin first so here are my questions. 1) The money you exchange into bitcoin, where does it go? For example i change £100 into 0.23242394 bitcoin for example, where does that £100 go to since there is no government or bank? 2) Where does the money come from that miners are paid, since there are no transaction fee's etc. 3) I've heard that bitcoin will end or fail/run out of money in 2140 why and how is this?

i can't seem to get any overclock to work on my power colour r9 280. I've been tweaking with radeon settings and msi afterburner but no matter what i do nothing happens to my clock speeds. i set both sliders to min and max and no value of my benchmark changes. any ideas?

Hey all. I'm having trouble joining a friend on some games such as MW2 and Cod5. It worked before up until my friend bought his pc round and we played on LAN. It worked fine until he went back home and we tried to play but kept failing to join. We can send and receive invites but attempting to join the lobby will eventually time out. Any idea how I try and fix this or anybody had this problem before? Thanks, Dan
