Hello everyone and happy Easter, I'm starting to get in Audiophile hardware but I don't know much about it. I mainly use my setup for Gaming, Music and watching movie/series. My setup is: Mainboard - Asus Prime x470-pro Speakers - Logitech Z906 Headphones - now Sennsheiser hd 4.5 BT Headphones i want to use - Beyerdynamic BT 900 Pro X 48 Ohm or BT 990 Pro 250 Ohm. The Z906 Subwoofer (all connections are there) is connected to the pc via the black/green/pink jack. The controller is connected to Subwoofer via a VGA connector? Looks like it. I connect the HD 4.5 to the jack output on the Z906 controller, it's decent but I hear noice when I go louder. Now if I want to use either the 900 pro X or 990 pro, should I just connect them to the Z906 controller jack, pc audio jack output or buy a DAC and connect it to PC? I know if you have Headphones with more Ohm you need an AMP/DAC for them to use fully. So my question is: If i get the 900 Pro X 48 Ohm can I use them without DAC and the sound is clear or do I need a DAC if i choose the 990 pro 250 Ohm? Thanks in advance

First time post so apologies if this is in the wrong place. I've recently bought a set of DT990 PRO 250 ohm headphones and a Fiio K5 pro amp after reading some posts on LTT Forums and reviews on audiophiles. Every single post/review I have read has explicitly said an amp is required to run these yet my 10 y/o z290 board is running them perfectly fine. I have to have volume on 20-30% otherwise its just way too loud. When plugging into the amp i get an intermittent static feedback which I have read is common on higher gains, but this is at lowest gain at 10 o'clock. Newer b650e board runs them fine and I have capped them at 10% otherwise they become too loud. Box says 250 ohm, serial number says 250 ohms. Is it a dud pair? Behringer support as everyone is aware, is beyond useless and I have had no response from emails or a human voice through phone calls. Its an amazon purchase so no issues getting a refund if this is the case. Edit 1: Thank you all for your comments!! I had 0 idea this community was so engaging! - Corrected Behringer to Beyerdynamic because names are apparently confusing to me. - Purchase Link:https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B010IJ9W1U?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details - No formal testing, just had the opportunity to test on 2 motherboards and the amp on both due to switching between PCs - I have purchased a 2nd pair of the same headphones to distinguish if this is a dud pair. - Any other recommendations for open backs in the $100- 200 range? Would love to know why people have issues with the DT 990s, I have 0 audio experience.

First impressions I got my Tygr 300 R today and I was very excited to try them out. Packaging is as expected from Beyerdynamic at the price point. No fancy things just straight to the point, they're like, - Here is your headphones. The first thing I realized when picking them up was the weight because they are very light compared to my Hifiman He400se which I daily drive. I haven't really used any lighter headphones since I used my 990 Pros as my dailies. These went bad because I kind of "soldered" or heated up the driver a bit I think causing a quieter sound on the left side and now they're lying somewhere gathering dust. (I changed the cable from coiled to a straight one). I've paired the Tygrs with my Sound Blaster AE-9. One of the reasons I bought these these was because I have had a long lasting problem with my He400se since I got them. The only problem with them is that they have a channel imbalance. I've got a quieter driver on the right side which makes imaging horrid and I have to compensate with Windows settings to kind of balance it out. The problem with that is that the imbalance doesn't go along the whole frequency graph. I think planar magnetics are prone to this, or so I've read. It is not that bad but pretty noticeable. I should've gone for a replacement but I got these as a replacement from my old He400i 2020 that unfortunately broke loose in the 3.5mm port and had no connection. Comfort Anyways. In terms of comfort for the Tygrs, they are very light and clamp perfectly compared to my 990 pros I had. My He400se would be perfect if they were lighter. The headband is perfectly padded and conforms to my head, this is personal in terms of comfort I think. Compared to my He400se the headband is much more soft. Don't get me wrong. The He400se's are comfy in another way just too heavy and it has a hard and narrow headband. Talking about the comfort of the He400se, they have better earpads in terms of shape due to the angled pads, it makes the headphones sit more secure that way for me. The earpads on the Tygr's, stock, are mediocre because of the harder padding and narrow space between the ears and driver wall. I think I will eventually switch them out for Dekoni elite velour, please if anyone tried that let me know the differences. Build quality These are built well enough to handle most things. These are both plastic and metal. The headband is metal with fake leather around it, metal yokes and the grill is also metal. The rest is plastic. They do feel hefty and durable. The pads are mediocre and I feel like they will flatten like my old 990 pros did. Sound The frequency response of the Tygr's non-EQ'd is very good and is my preference in sound signature. I like to add around 3dBs to the sub-bass and flatten out the curve/dip in the bass in the 60hz region for some music because I mostly listen to hardstyle, happy hardcore, eurodance, and a whole lot more EDM and some rock. I also EQ'd around 1k and 4k to add more detail in the mids and lower treble which they responded well to. So actually talking about the sound. The Tygrs are a more smoothed-out pair of DT990 pros with a better soundstage with a little bit less detail. The way I could describe them is that they are a bit on the bloaty side in the mid-bass for people who love Sennheisers or very flat headphones. These are smooth and punchy, still maintain detail, and great at imaging with good layering. They don't have as an open/expansive soundstage as the 400se but sadly, the soundstage is more congested in a way on the 400se compared to a more deep/layered one on the Tygrs. The Tygrs have a different and lower tone in their openness compared to the 400se which makes them "immersive" when I play games or listen to euphoric tracks. The actual difference in bass mids and highs is big because of the difference in the nature of dynamic and planar drivers. The 400se are much more clear and transparent and have a better representation of clean and fast bass but the quantity is very low. The Tygrs have more bass that almost drowns out too much mids but still retains a decent amount. One of the biggest differences in bass comparing dynamic and planar is the speed. The bass is definitely more punchy on dynamics so far as I can hear and know. The treble on these are good and not at all sibilant anymore as the 990's. Treble is also comparable to the 400se in quantity. These have a small cushion on the driver wall to help drown out the highs that are piercing which is good. My pair of He400se's actually have a grainy treble for me which is kind of expected with the pricetag maybe? The way I look at both of these is that they are good for different things as all headphones are. But the Tygrs for me are better because of a more suitable signature and overall sound for me, and they are more comfortable. I just wish I didn't have that problem with my He400se. Any thoughts or questions?

Hello LTT community. I currently own a goxlr mini, shure sm7B mic and a arctic nova pro SteelSeries headset. I feel like I’m having a harder time than ever hearing footsteps in CS. I honestly don’t want to equalize a bunch but just want a nice out of the box experience. I’ve only owned gaming headsets in my 12 years of experience.. HyperX cloud 2 (were really nice) G Pro X (also a nice pair, shitty software tho) and now the SteelSeries. Now I’ve been looking a the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X which everyone seems to be absolutely praising. Now my questions are as so: 1. Is the DT Pro X good for gaming? I only play tac shooters where footsteps and be able to pin point positions are key. A little bass would be nice. (I liked the hyperx cloud 2 bass but it was a little over the top at the same time) 2. Will my goxlr mini be able to drive the headset with optimism sound quality? 3. The headset is open back, are there a chance for the sound to bleed into my shure mic or would that require extreme high volume in the headset for that to happen? Thank you for reading

Hello folks! I've recently been getting a lot into the audiophile gear stuff (and by that, I mean researching, not really picking things up). I've been using my Beyerdynamic's Custom One Pro Plus for about 7 years now and am completely happy with them! However, I really want to get into higher quality headphones that are openback, and for some reason, my heart's just set on DT 1990 Pro. And since my COPs are only 16 Ohms headphones, I dont really need a separate amp obviously. But now as a newbie, getting straight into the higher bracket gear such as DT1990 Pro, I do wonder what would be the best option for me right now? (My onboard audio says they're capable of driving even 600 Ohm pairs, but idk if that's still going to do these headphones justice but here's the link: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-z370-e-gaming-model/spec ) Some suggestions I see and that are available to me are: FiiO K5 Pro, FiiO E10K (cheaper but idk how good they are compared to K5 Pro), Topping E30/L30 stack (kinda pushing the budget but if they're REALLY better compared to the cheaper options, I could try getting them if they're justified). I'm from India, so my options are kinda limited, the two major online stores i can get the equipment from are: headphonzone.in and amazon.in My budet's around 25,000 Rs. (330 USD) TL;DR - Kinda new to audiophile gear, need to figure out which Amp/DAC's worth it in the budget to drive DT 1990 Pro to their full potential. Thanks.

I was planning to buy a pair of "good" headphones like the beyerdynamic DT 550 or 990 which have a pretty high impedance at 80 and 250 Ohms respectably. The Amp I am using is an Yamaha RX-V571. How high is the impedance on the 6.3mm jack there; so In can know what pair to buy.

I’ve bought the beyerdynamic dynamic 770 pros and am wondering if my msi z390 motherboard can power the headphones enough or if I need an amp. I haven’t been able to find anything online so I’m here

Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to check out my post and share your wisdom/opinions. For reference, I currently use the Massdrop Sennheiser HD 6XX paired with a Sound Blaster AE-5 Plus for everything. Love the soundstage and bass response is right up my alley. Sounds great for movies, singleplayer immersion, and racing games. However the main problem I have with them is directional audio, particularly in an arena shooter like Call of Duty. I have tuned an EQ to my liking and use the virtualization found in Sound Blaster Command to make it as good as I can (see image at the bottom), but it's just not cutting it. I also tried disabling the EQ's and virtualization to try out CoD's built-in virtualization and I found it quite disappointing. I am fully aware of my ineptitude with EQ's, any suggestions on adjusting that is welcome as well. I played around and what I came up with below sounded fine enough. What led me on this mission to find some better headphones was actually playing the MWII beta on PS5 with the Sony Pulse 3D wireless headphones. Although overall audio quality was quite trash compared to the 6XX's, the directional audio was amazing, and without using the PS5's Tempest 3D audio. So when the beta started up on PC, I quickly found myself guessing a lot of the time where footsteps were coming from. I did not expect such a stark contrast, as I was probably giving too much credit to Call of Duty's own tuning. So I watched a few videos, did some googling and found a couple options I was hoping you all could help me sort out. Though any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. Microphone not a concern as I have my own separate one. Both from Beyerdynamic, the Tygr 300R and the MMX 300. I know that a big difference between the two are open vs closed back. I don't have a particularly loud environment so closed back is not a necessity. My sound card only has the one stereo audio out port which I will probably be keeping my Sennheiser's plugged into. A few things to keep in mind: Will either of these headphones be severely dampened with onboard Realtek audio? If the soundcard would make a big enough difference, any suggestions on a "quick switch" setup of some kind where I can easily switch headphones without giving my PC a reach-around would be awesome. I am not looking for a price-to-performance decision, merely objective directional audio in shooters (other media will be handled by the 6XX) Budget is $300 for the headset (both clearly fall within this, but as previously stated, other suggestions are encouraged Notable mentions Astro A40 +mixamp - I used to own this combo prior to getting the Sennheiser HD 6XX's that grace my ears now. No real complaints from them other than durability and price. They are still a VERY distant 3rd from the aforementioned headsets only because they can occupy the SPDIF on my motherboard and the mix amp eliminates the poor onboard soundcard. However none of the serious reviews I checked out even mentioned these. It seems the general consensus amongst the audiophile gaming community is that if the product is designed with a "gamer-y" aesthetic and marketed towards gamers, they're not that great. Sennheiser PC37x - I only mention them so you won't. I hated them and returned them after a day. Logitech G Pro X - See above ^

Hello guys Trying to choose the best possibile headphones for under 200$ ( which I AM going to use for 5 years od more) I stopped by open back Beyerdynamic 990 ( previously also considered HiFiMan HE 400i, Philips X2, Sennheiser 650). My friends advice me to choose close back for better immersion into whatever I hear in headphones. Though I prefer hearing a bit what is happening around me, and I definitely hate not hearing myself. I used to have closed headphones before and this is just not for me. So my questions are: 1) Should I choose DT990 Pro or DT990 Edition? What would be the difference? DT 990 Pro seems to be more popular and has that nice retro telephone cable . 2) To experience DT990 true potential should I buy 600 ohm or 250 ohm would be better for home only use? I did not find a clear explanation about the difference. What else should I buy to power them? 3) What is the best "price/quality" DAC/AMP to have the mentioned above true potential? 4) The most important question is if I AM making the right decision about DT990? After watching many reviews they seemed the best possibile choice due to product and sound quality/price. I need to order headphones and possibily the Amp tomorrow as my current headphones are falling apart and I almost do not hear anything while using them. And since there is still time to change my mind about Beyerdynamic and get something else, better for the same price I Ask you to help me with this.

Hello everyone, just finished ordering the Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO 250Ohms and now i have a doubt... I'm running a Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7 motherboard that claims to have premium audio, built in amp and support for up to 600Omhs headphones, and on the other side i have a Asus Xonar DG , that supports up to 150Ohms.. Which one would be better to plug the DT990s? The mobo can power them better but maybe the Xonar has better audio quality Sorry if this is a stupid question, i barely know anything about sound, Thanks! From gigabyte's page : Specially designed for gamers, GIGABYTE motherboards utilize a high-capacity amplifier which is able to drive 600Ω loads, giving gamers a fuller range of dynamic sound with crisper details and less distortion when using high quality professional headphones. Dedicated Audio Hardware Zone + Separation on the PCB layer protects the board's sensitive analog audio components. + Separate analog and digital ground to protect against Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). Also, the connectors are gold plated , and they use high-end japanese Nichicon capacitors.

I'll be getting myself the 990s, I have a slew of questions. Ill be gaming and listening to music on my PC, Mobility is not a concern. Motherboard: Asus Strix Z270G 1) What AMP and DAC Combo should I get for the headphones? is a FiiO EK10k enough? 2) Do I even need a DAC or and AMP is the Motherboard Audio enough? 3) Or should I be getting a Sound Card? 4) Or should i just avoid all this and get the 32ohms version? Is there a difference? (I like to go loud) I am also open to suggestions on other good Headphones. In this price range. My shopping is done from Amazon.in so they tend to have the wonkiest of prices.

Hey all, So after nearly 2 years of use, my Hyper X Cloud II's decided to retire. I'm currently in the RMA process and I have 2 weeks to decided what I want for my next headphones. Firstly some general info: Like most people here asking for advice, my main use will be gaming and music. I'm no audiophile, but I do appreciate good quality sound. My main source for music is Spotify, streaming at 320kbs. I live with people who do not necessarily appreciate my music taste (Playing: Toto - Africa and Snake Eater on loop is apparently bad ) and my desktop is not so faraway from my head so during gaming it can get bit loud. As you might have guessed already, open headphones are no go. When I originally chose these headphones, what made me buy them was the very good sound quality for "gaming grade headphones" and the attached microphone. I don't require attached microphone anymore, I can grab some ModMic or BoomPro to take care of that part. What i'm looking for here is good sound quality for music and gaming, and comfort, for a budget of an around 200€ max. While i'm perfectly happy with the sound quality of Hyper X Cloud II, I have always wanted to take the jump to the entry level audiophile gear. So what are the headphones I have looked at so far: Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32 Ohm or 80 Ohm (Still in the process of figuring out whats the difference): There will be no doubts about the comfort of these headphones, being the same style as the Hyper X II. However I heard that these are not so great for gaming? Beyerdynamic DT 990: I said that open headphones were no go, but I have heard these being described as "Semi open" . However, I'm worried about possibility of audio leak to the microphone. Also, they are on the more expensive side considering. Sound would be amazing however. Audio-Technica ATH-M50x: Its really hard to figure out these ones. I have heard that they are very good entry level audiophile headphones, but I have also heard that they are overpriced garbage meant to trap people like me who are considering jump from gaming level, to entry level audiophile. Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus: These are very interesting. I heard that they are on par with the ATH-M50x on sound quality, they have that fun bass switch which I think I might need in my life. Comfy factor is also guaranteed by being Beyerdynamics. However, seems like these are quite under the radar headphones? There isn't much talk about these. I wonder whats the reason for that? Hyper X Cloud II or Hyper X Cloud Revolver: What can I say, I know it will work for me 100%. It would be very boring choice, but wouldn't be the wrong one. Some last words: Amps. I don't have one, but in the future, I might consider getting one if the headphones I end up getting will benefit from them. Feel free to suggest me headphones, share thoughts and ideas about the ones I have listed, anything really. Thanks all, I hugely appreciate the help I have gotten from the LTT forums in the past

Hi there I'm the happy owner of a pair of Beyerdynamic T5p 2. Gen headphones, which have an impedance of 32 ohms. The sound is great when they're playing straight from my laptop, but I've heard that an amp can improve the sound quality further ( Even with low impedance headphones. ) But I find myself feeling a little conflicted, since I'm not sure how much of an impact the improvement will have, if any. Also, if it's something I'd benefit from, which amp should I be looking into? Something by Schiit or perhaps Beyerdynamic's A 20? http://europe.beyerdynamic.com/shop/a-20.html

Hello, I am looking to buy some new headphones to replace my old m30x and Hyper X Cloud 2. Someone recommended me the Beyerdynamic DT 770 (pro?) and them seem very nice. I am not sure which Ohm count to buy. I believe 80 should be the best sound quality to usability (can be powered relatively well off a computer and phone - but you may have to turn it up) compromise from my research (however I have no clue what I'm doing). I'm not sure if I should get the PRO or normal model. The prices for the 990 and 880 are also the same where I am at. I prefer closed back as it's more private. Are there any suggestions for either the DT 770 or a different pair in that price range? I'm OK with used. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone. I currently have some Sennheiser HD 558's I've been using for about a year-year and half now. I use these with a Creative Sound Blaster Z for my Sound Card, I know it's not a dedicated setup but its an up from onboard. Primarily I use them to listen to music, play games, and talk to friends. I am finding that these headphones are a little lackluster in the Bass department. I do enjoy the Open-back features on all fronts except that my dog barking completely breaks immersion, which is whatever. I have been looking at the Beyerdynamic DT-880 Premium (don't want the coiled cable on the pro). Is this a step in the right direction for me? Any other suggestions anyone can make? I am willing to spend I think up to $300 as far as Budget goes for these.

I am looking to buy a new pair of headphones; probably going with the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PROs. Will my iPhone SE be able to push out enough power for the 80 ohms version or should I stick with the 32 ohms one? I'm assuming the 32 ohms would be the best choice but thought I might just check...

Hello! So, i have been using these Beyerdynamic's Dt 770pro's for quite a good while now and i have been planing on taking my sound game a bit higher by this summer. I have planed on buying Beyerdynamic's DT 990 Premium 600 Ohm headphones. But here's the kicker, im not 100% sure which Dac i should go with it. I have been thinking of the Topping D3 dac but i heard that the sound levels are quite a bit weird, since most said that they boost high's a bit more than lows. Anyways, i'm looking for advice if i should go with the D3 or something else, for what music genres i listen to are mostly electronic and classical music, but mostly i just listen to anything really. And if any possible for the dac, i'm looking a dac between 100€ - 120€ price range, but if you guys have any good recommendations not too far off from that range im more than happy to hear the suggestions! Thanks in advance and have a great weekend!

I've seen people vouch for both headphones online, and reviews really aren't helping. Some say the M50x sucks, while others say the COP sucks. I just want to know which one is better in sound quality (clarity, bass, detail), and durability. Which do you recommend? Any other headphones >$200 CDN?
