This AVG message keeps popping up basically whenever I try to open a new window in Firefox. I've never seen that site and I have no idea how it keeps poping up even after cleaning everything with CCleaner. How can I get rid of this? Thank you edit: Sorry for the language, forgot to mention. It literally says: "Danger eliminated" "We securely eliminated connection on jackyhillty.net, where we found infection Other:Malware-gen[Tri]." "Test my PC"

So its been months i'm trying different stuff to get Normal startup times but i'm not sure whats going on, startup is too slow. I'll try my best to explain my issue. My PC Bootup is fine but when it comes to desktop screen it takes ages to load stuff in the task bar and makes it very slow. I only have AVG running in the Startup, though disabled it to check whether if that was the reason but results are the same. This is the most annoying one. When i open any folder ( my computer, or any file explorer, any drive ) for the first time i Turn on my PC, my PC got stuck and i cant click on anything. The only thing that work in that scenario is Taskbar / Startup though if i click on any thing in the taskbar / startup, it does not open. The stuff i clicked during this stucked situation opened after my PC comes back in normal stage after 2-3 minutes. Now this thing only comes at first opening of any File Explorer or any drive, after that it come back to normal and does not occur again. I have a doubt that my HDD is dying or i'm not sure. You Guys can help me out with this My PC Specs and some required Screenshot ( Please ask any screenshot if required, i'll update the post with it ) OS: Windows 8.1 Pro ( up to date ) CPU: Xeon x5460 @ 4Ghz GPU: GTX 960 RAM: 8GB HDD: I have this Hard Disk Startup Screenshot Please let me know anything you like to ask about this so i can explain more better in order to get this issue solved. Thank you for reading this. Have a nice day/night/afternoon/midnight -Waqas

My AVG wasn't installing updates so I uninstalled it and try to reinstall it but it failed and came up with "Description: General error (0x0643) Error code: 0xC0070643" I've googled it and ever solution hasn't worked, anyone else who had this problem had third party anti-virus programs installed and disabled it and it fixed it. So I tried installing any anti virus/ malware which was only malwareabytes but this achieved nothing and the same error code came up. I've tried lots of other things such as trying installing on other hard drives and SSD's and different versions of avg and turning my computer on and off again but none of these seem to work. I tried to contact and I got a hold of customer service but they told me only people who pay for avg can get help for them and I had to use the forum which was useless so I've decided to try to use the best forum I know. If you can help me please reply, NzxtAidan

Hello people! It's hard for me tell if I have a virus or not but I may need your help. From yesterday I started to notice something. My browser (Google Chrome) suddenly switched tabs and when I started AVG anti virus scan, it got stuck at rootkit and only after multiple restarts I managed to complete the scan. Luckily it found to threats but today my pc started doing weird stuff again. My keyboard was pressing keys and when I tried to select my icons everything started to get buggy. The same was with my antivirus. I had to restart my pc to complete the scan. It also found no threats. The weird thing today was that my Windows 10 went into repair screen when restarting. Is this just Windows 10 or some kind of virus AVG can't detect? I also don't remember clicking on any suspicious links. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks for your time!

What is this bull$h!t? I can not uninstall AVG from my pc. It hangs at 2% and I had to reinstall it because the removal tool destroyed everything but a few remains that kept it in the programs and features in the control panel, and giving me error codes. Can anyone help me?

Hey all, my storage drive recently kicked the bucket and I have replaced it since. Now my issue is, AVG was installed on that old drive. When I attempt to redownload it and install it, it tells me that it cannot be installed again except on the hard drive where it was previous installed, my dead drive. Is there a work around for this other than finding a different free antivirus?

I recently installed a fresh copy of Windows and at a friend's suggestion I also installed Advanced SystemCare for its Speed Boost option in the hopes that it might squeeze slightly faster framerates from my outdated AMD FX-4300 CPU. I was genuinely surprised when I ran a full system scan and it claimed to have found 9,798 browser security issues and 292 registry errors (see attached). As I said, this was a fresh install of Windows. It only had a few applications and the latest Windows updates installed (Chrome, Firefox, AVG Free, Steam, CCleaner, Advanced SystemCare and a few mainstream games downloaded from Steam). Also, this was after I had just finished running CCleaner and fixed several registry errors that it claimed to have discovered. My theory is that most of these supposed optimizers and speed boosters aren't actually fixing much if anything at all and they are just a ploy to get you to install other bundled bloatware and malware. I did a search to see if I could find any benchmark tests on the various PC optimizers available but came up dry. What are your thoughts on this? Do you use third party optimizing software? If so, which ones and do they honestly make any kind of noticable difference in your computer's performance?

Alright, so as far as anti-virus was concerned, I've been pretty settled on Avira for a very long time, about 5 years roughly. This was until I started checking my CPU usage in task manager recently and found it at 100% constantly. This was on the desktop baring in mind. Whenever I started to play games, my PC would stutter and it was because of this issue. I know this because as soon as I started ending Avira processes in the task manager, the usage would reach normal levels. Avira was running a constant demanding scan which was using 100% of my CPU. I decided to put an end to it. I have uninstalled my anti-virus and I am in the process of finding a new one. For the mean time I am using Windows Defender. I am eager to know what anti-virus software you guys use and which ones you can recommend for me. I don't want anything fancy, just something to give me the peace of mind than my computer is sufficiently protected. A free trial should do fine, or if anyone has any other ideas, it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Pat.

I have windows server 2016 running on some desktop hardware and I want to install a radeon rx 460 graphics card. I want to use the card with Boinc and other types of graphics processing. I downloaded the windows 10 drivers, which a google search said should have worked, and I've turned on graphical acceleration (I believe it's turned on). Do I have to install and turn on everything directly using the server or does remote desktop work too? I am sure that the card and slot work, I have the display going through it ATM. This is my first time really build a server so I don't really know how things work yet.

So I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on the top antivirus this year? I know Windows Defender is pretty good on Windows 10 (I'm running Windows 8.1 atm) although the UI sucks imo, Kaspersky is supposed to be good but they've been under fire for having shady monitoring practices (whether these are true or not I'm not sure) and all google searches state that Bit Defender is the top one atm, but I found that it caused my games to crash more often than not. I've been looking at AVG, the UI looks clean and it's been around for a long time. But anyway, what do you guys use and which ones would you recommend?

Reset Windows - now can't install Antivirus?
Flanelman posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Hey guys, so i reset windows this morning and now i'm unable to install anti virus? I tried Avast and AVG and both fail during installation. I've tried starting the install again multiple times and re downloading but neither will work. AVG just says "There was an error while completing the setup process" and Avast says "Avast installer is unable to continue because the installer is corrupted or is forbidden to run on this machine" Does anyone have any idea what's going wrong? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. -
Hi there! I just installed the Windows 10 anniversary Update on my laptop a while ago (about 3 weeks) and everything was working fine. But now after a shutdown Windows won't start up again. If I start up it shows me a watchdog initialization screen in the format YYYY-MM-DD HH-MM-SS.XXX Phase 0/1/2/3 : "output" (German day and time layout). I searched on the Internet for a solution but in every solution Windows booted up at the end...and this is not my case. I went away for about 2 hours and let the PC work during this time and after I came back it still showed me the watchdog screen. What can I do!!! I can't even get to the point where I could install a system image! I have installed AVG free antivirus software and just downloaded driver updates over the resellers website. Specs: Intel Celeron dual core (I think something about 2.6 GHz) Onboard graphics 8G DDR 3 RAM Please help me!

Hi. I use AVG Anti-Virus Protection Free on all of the Windows machines in my house. Recently on my main desktop, I have gotten an error 'Unable to Recognise License'. It is really frustrating because I don't pay for it, I use the FREE VERSION. I generally reinstall it but it gets really annoying (sometimes it happens on a monthly basis). Any solutions would be appreciated. Thanks, Alpha.

That came out of nowhere but Avast apparently has the money to buy AVG and will pay $1.3 billion for it. There is no statement on how it will affect AVG or Avast users. There is no statement on what the plan is going forward except that the combined user numbers will provide more threat data and that they will provide better support for businesses. I'd consider that fairly vague. The CEO of Avast, Vincent Steckler, had this to say: Source: http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/28935/avast-acquiring-avg-for-usd-1-3-billion/

So a bit ago my dad suggested I install AVG antivirus on my PC. I took his advice and installed it. Shortly after my PC began freezing after a short time of booting. It could last from five minutes to two hours without freezing. Judging by the fact that the freezes started right after I installed AVG, I decided to uninstall it. There wasn't any difference made. My PC has froze in the past, but it was never this bad.

Hello! I'm at my Grandma's house and I was wondering what the best way to remove AVG Antivirus is. She's got it all. AVG web Tuneup, AVG PC Tuneup, etc. I'm doing a Malwarebytes scan right now but I don't think it will pick up AVG.

Hello everyone, for years I've been using AVG (free edition) myself, but also installing it on pc's I manage for relatives. It's been very good to me without to many problems. Lately (for like a year now) there has been a LOT of pop-ups. It's not only annoying, but it's been causing me problems in the sense that those relatives don't seem to get that they are ads and click them, install trials, then those run out, start bugging them for renewals, so I need to uninstall&reinstall... You get the jist of it. So TLDR; suggest me antivirus, free, no annoying popups. And yes, I know using common sense and windows defender is fine, but you know how it goes with non-techie relatives... I usually install malwarebytes as well for scans once in a while. Thanks, Stef

First of all, happy new year to you guys! I'm currently in need of any advice or suggestions on what can be the best possible antivirus software for home/personal use? I have goten away with using none for quite a while(bad practice) since I don't transfer files with many other computers. That isuntil recently I've come across a virus that turns the folders into my usb drives and my new WD My passport ultra (ouch!) into applications. The files were okay and luckily. I've managed to clean the infected drives by trying out some workaround through cmd and deleted the "recycler" folder. I've also reinstalled windows on the affected computer - no virus (for now). Now, I'm looking at different antivirus programs that I can use to make sure that the drives are thoroughly clean. I'm currently looking at Symantec's Enpoint Protection (since I've read that one user was able to clean his infected drives with a Symantec software, though he didnt mention what specific prgram he used). Although, during the installation process for the trial version, I've noticed that it involves some network/server configurations and whatnot. This got me thinking that this might be too much for home use. (The srver configuration is still on going until now). What other antivirus programs can you recommend? Or is Enpoind Protection okay? I've tried ESET Nod 32 a while back to remove some infections on usb drives as well, but unfortunately it didn't detect the recent virus my usb and computer had. Thanks!

What Antivirus do you use? I want a new one for my rig and all I really want it to do is: Block Malware, Phishing Protection, Something that can remove junk or extra files from my computer. But yeah, I just want to know a decent Antivirus (Paid or Free), and also what one do you use and do you like it? Or can it not handle modern Malware?

On a friend of mine's computer, some of the sidebar youtube links redirect them to ad sites at random. Malwarebytes and AVG can't find anything. The computer is an asus laptop with an i5-5200u, the most repeatable result is in google chrome. I don't know much more about it then that.

I personally use about 1gb of data a month. It's usually from reading forums.
