  2. https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/nvidia-is-rtx-washing-our-favorite-games/ This guy is acting like with the release of portal rtx, the og portal is just going to disappear, the point of the rtx remixed games like portal and quake was not in any way to make a new game, it was to test the limits of what could be done with really aged games to make them look modern, there was no intention of replacement, just simply providing alternatives.
  3. digitec.ch made an interesting article (only in German for now, sorry) where they compare the different power consumption of different machines for home office. Turns out that the energy consumption differs a lot but if you would buy an M2 Mac Mini for home office because it's 98% more energy efficient than the gaming computer it wold take you about 8 years to pay it back and start actually saving on the energy bill. (Considering Swiss prices) What this article teaches me is that, if I have a laptop or an office computer laying around I should use it (if it performs well enough for home office). I might save 60$ a year. What do you think? I was surprised by the NUC's energy consumption given it has a (high-end) mobile CPU. I would have preferred if they would have included a generic office computer, either prebuilt or DIY. Budget gaming PC and NUC would be overkill for me but a laptop might not be enough. The prices are in Swiss Francs. 1 CHF is about 1 USD
  4. Found Mr.Tech Tips on a subtle news article while i was searching for details on i9 , thought you guys might find it amusing . Transcript >> aka copy+paste Source: http://bgr.com/2017/06/05/intel-core-i9-preview-linus-tech-tips-not-happy/
  5. With the introduction of RGB video cards and cases with tempered glass side panel. There are some that would like to show it to others, on how awesome it look when it changes its 16.7 million colors. One problem though, all motherboards are mounted vertically, inside a case and this make it impossible to show off the RGB video card. The solution is to get a PCIe extender cable so, the video card can be mounted in a standing position within the case, thus showing its beauty for everyone to see. Now which one is the best, do they all perform the same, and why do some cost more than others? Videocardz did a test on a variety of them, to see if more expensive ones actually perform better than the cheaper ones or not. https://videocardz.com/review/pci-express-riser-extender-test
  6. I was unsure what subforum to put this in due to the topic being gaming in General. Mods feel free to move me if needed. This question is thrown around a lot by people who are not that enveloped in the PR Media aspect of Video Games. And the question comes up because as a certain point in any "Gamer's" life they come to the realization during one of their gaming sessions where they realize they are no longer having fun, or rather as much fun as they used to with this game, or gaming as a whole. Whether that’s because they have lost interest in a specific title or gaming as a whole. Maybe they not find themselves with other things in their lives that take priority so their gaming sessions no longer are the same immersive experience that the gamer is looking for. So is Gaming Dead? Some people think so, but it depends on how you look at it honestly. An Article written by Cyrus Sanati on Fortune.com claimed that gaming is dead as an industry. The article does mention how “The Video Game industry is maturing - fast.” but then goes on to explain how the “Gamer” themself is a “Blessing and a curse for the industry” It continues “It is a blessing in that as they age, their pockets get deeper, so they potentially have more money to spend on their hobby… But it is also a curse, because the industry it stuck in a time warp.” Well what does this mean exactly? Cyrus goes on to tell us that these “Content makers, who are [aging] gamers themselves, have become lazy.... They have failed to innovate on both the hardware and content side of the business, alienating potential young consumers while angering older gamers who crave something newer than just another Call of Duty.” Now I would have to agree with Cyrus on this. As a gamer myself I know that I am not going to be interested in something that doesn’t speak to me. And by the 5th, 6th, or even in some cases 7th iteration of a game. It is no longer speaking to me. The “International Podcast” over on ACG had a very interest conversation on Video Game Identity on one of their episodes. They were speaking specifically of Dead rising 4 and how certain Core Gameplay Elements and Story Elements that made the first few titles such a memorable experience, are nowhere to be found. Once a game is at that point it is no longer interesting to the player. Thus the Content Creator just cannibalize their own game, and drove off the existing playerbase. But that’s the industry side. To get a better look at how the actual Consumer market is for these games we will turn to the “Entertainment Software Association’s” “Sales, Demographic and Usage Data” about the computer and video game industry. In their 2015 information They show 51% of U.S households own a dedicated game console. Meanwhile in 2016 they report only 48%. So why the drop in Console Owners? We can’t say that this indicated a shift to PC gaming or that it means that they have just given up on gaming because they also indicated 63% of U.S households as having at least one person who plays video games at least 3 or more hours per week. But the interesting statistic if that the 2016 information shows 65% of U.S households own a device used to play video games. So this could show us a shift to PC gaming or Even Mobile gaming as a primary platform. But they do show a slight drop in "Gamers" overall. Last year they indicated at least 2 "Gamers" in the U.S Game playing household, and this year that dropped down to 1.7. Now granted this number could be skewed by the Gaming populace growing up and possible adding another household to the equation.Granted the “aging gamer” stereotype is not supported in the ESA’s information as we saw in the Fortune.com article. Between 2015 and 2016 the Average age of a gamer did not change. It remained at 35 through the year. Meanwhile Cyrus’s Fortune.com article shows the average age of a gamer as being 37 in the year 2015. So take that with a grain of salt if you will. But with that information how can we now look at the question, “Are video games dying?” Well looking at games published in 2015 according to Game.Co.Uk there are over 30 NEW titles released. And that’s not including sequels or annual games either. So I would definitely say no on that front. In Jane McGonigal’s book “Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change The World’ she explains: “The Truth is this: in today’s society, computer and video games are fulfilling genuine human needs that the real is currently unable to satisfy. Games are providing rewards that reality is not. They us bringing is together in ways that reality is not” I agree One-Hundred percent with this statement. If you read her book she goes on to explain many more benefits of gaming, but also how to improve IRL (In Real Life). I would recommend giving it a few moments of your time. Real benefits aside though I think Fortune.coms article sums it up quite nicely when it said. “It would be nice to see some real innovation in the core gaming product, as well as some fresh content aimed at a young subset of the population. Any feedback on the writing of this article would be appreciated. Thank you for reading if you made it this far.
  7. I just watched a video on gamer meld, he was talking about amd being able to use ray tracing on a vega 56 without tensor cores? Is that for real? After all that money Nvidia spent on making ray tracing proprietary amd just snaps their fingers and "like a boss" look nvidia we can do it too but no need for proprietary hardware. WTF. No wonder Lisa Su said what she said. But is it feasible?
  8. Hello! So, recently I found out that the European Parliament has voted for `The Copyright Directive`, articles 11 and 13... Does this mean, if a person lives in Europe, and wants to record a videogame, example gta 5, is the person allowed to do this at this state or no, and upload the footage on YouTube? I do not fully understand what is going on with this, so if someone could kindly explain to me what the hell is going on with this... Thanks!
  9. After leaving my Oppo R15 Pro on charge after downloading the newest software update, I checked on my phone to begin the install to see a notification from the "Browser" application, this first took my by surprise because it was both the first time ever using a basic browser application on the phone instead of Google Chrome. I assumed this was to be a new feature or news about the coming update which I had just downloaded; to my very shocked surprise it wasn't. Oppo had pushed through a notification which took me to this page (image below). Just to clear the air, I've never once searched for anything reguarding this topic, nor the country it was happening in, and I've also never used the "Browser" application, only ever Google Chrome.
  10. This dude in his first paragraph says Bwahahaha like Samsung doesn't have phones with facial, iris, and finger print to log in. Now, 3D maping of a face? IPhone X might be the only SMARTPHONE that does this. I know Windows tablets and laptops already have it. BUT this guy also says OMG hello, it's called WINDOWS HELLO!!! Windows already does this with facial, iris, fingerprint, pin, password, and drawing on a picture. it's just so funny and laughable when people who don't know about tech try to write about tech but they just look silly. but for some reason they only pay attention to Apple press releases and apple crap and nothing else and spew nonsense. That's what's annoying. The dudes name who wrote the article is Chris Smith. he's like less then half right it seems to me. Link: https://a.msn.com/r/2/BBFOffy?m=en-us
  11. Did Nvidia Hire Online Actors to Promote Their Products? If Nvidia did this, I think it is plausible that there would be some people on this forum doing this: people with either an anti-AMD posting streak, or distastefully-biased pro-Nvidia streak. I think it's an awful practice, and totally disrespectful of the communities and people that get subjected to this type of propaganda. In Canada, something similar was reported to be done by one of its federal political parties, the Conservatives. A disgusting practice, IMO. So far, Nvidia has not responded to these questions, posed to Nvidia by the site that ran the linked-to article:

  15. Professional reviews for the Intel "Skylake" desktop Processors have began emerging since early today. The crew over at 'Legit Reviews' has a review up for the code-named "Skylake" i7-6700K unlocked desktop Processor. Pricing The "Recommended Customer Pricing" (AKA MSRP?) are a follows: i7 -6700K: $350 i5-6600K: $243 Intel has decided to maintain 16 PCI-E 3.0 lanes on the mainstream "Skylake" Processor line-up, presumably dedicated for GPUs, but has not allowed up to 20 PCI-E 3.0 lanes provided from the Z170 chipset. The motherboard used for the testing is the ASUS Z170 Deluxe. In a previous news posting, here on LTT, there was mention of the use of a removable Processor mount; it looks like ASUS decided to use the "regular" mounting style found on previous generation motherboards. The i7-6700K has a base clock of 4.0 GHz, and a maximum Boost clock of 4.2 GHz by default. Their i7-6700K was able to achieve an overclock of 4.6 GHz; only adjusting the multiplier, leaving the BCLK at stock 100 MHz, and increasing the Core voltage up to 1.350V. As you can see, just like "Broadwell," these Processors will require a little more voltage to reach the similar frequencies on your typical "Haswell" or "Devil's Canyon" Processor. From the 'Legit Reviews' i7-5775C review article The full detail results is available in the full review article, but interesting points to share: The Memory bandwidth from using DDR4, considering Dual-Channel configuration, provides noticeable performance boost compared to DDR3 on Z97 chips, but the change is not overly significant. To me, this isn't too surprising. Observing the Processor benchmark results, the IPC did not improve drastically, like with the first-generation Core series to the second-generation. In the review, i7 Processors ranging from first-generation to the latest sixth-generation were used for comparison (i7-920, i7-2700K, i7-3770K, i7-4770K, i7-4790K, i7-5775C, i7-6770K). As you will see, it is a slow and steady, some-what linear, climb. At stock versus stock, the Cinebench R15 scores did not increase by much. I believe you could achieve similar results by overclocking a i7-4790K / 4770K -- both stock and overclocked i7-6700K results. If you compare the i7-4770K and the i7-4790K, there was a large increase in multi-threaded Cinebench R15 score. i7-6700K @ 4.6 GHz-- Multi-threaded: 1013, Single-Core: 199 i7-6700K @ stock -- Multi-threaded: 931, Single-Core: 183 i7-4790K @ stock -- Multi-threaded: 900, Single-Core: 179 i7-4770K @ stock -- Multi-threaded: 796, Single-Core: 159 In the "Metro Last Light" game testing, with the GTX 780 Ti, I am surprised to see the i7-6700K, both at stock and overclocked, obtained LOWER FPS than the i7-4790K. In fact, the minimum is about 8 FPS lower at stock versus stock frequency. (I may talk to 'Legit Reviews' about these results...just to be sure) As for power consumption, as soon as you overclock the Processor, your efficiency is thrown out the window -- just like with the "Broadwell" i7-5775C. Bumping the frequency up to 4.6 GHz, and cranking the voltage up to 1.35V brings the total power draw up from 124W to 161W (please read below for how these power consumptions were obtained). From their "Broadwell" review... My Final Thoughts... The anticipated "Skylake" results are finally out; the 14nm technology chip. Being able to use either DDR3L or DDR4 DRAM is a nice touch, adding more flexibility for the end-user. There doesn't seem to be a big performance leap with the "Tick", new architecture, CPU in Intel's "Tick-Tock" Processor life cycle scheme this time around. Then again, there has not been much competition from Intel's direct competitor -- nobody to push them, challenge them. By using 14nm technology, it is clear to see the power efficiency is there. As an enthusiast, and overclocker, given the Processor is an unlocked part, I am not so concerned about the power consumption, but it is something to keep in the back of your mind. If you were to build a brand-new system now, definitely consider a "Skylake" configuration. Honestly, if you are on "Devil's Canyon" now, and you are overclocking, I don't see the immediate need to change over. I personally would wait to see how 'Zen' is would be before deciding to retire my FX-8350 AM3+ system...but if I can't resist the urge, I may jump over to "Skylake" or stay with the readily available "Devil's Canyon." I could also test the waters of a green-and-black themed system build (IMO, I had the red-and-black going before it got mainstream )....so C'mon Gigabyte with those green Z97 / Z170 motherboards! I would kindly like to ask for some feedback from you beautiful people of the LTT community; criticism, anything, is all welcome. Will YOU be upgrading to "Skylake" in the near future?
  16. In this day and age, we get progressively better technology and new innovations on a weekly basis. One of the things we also like to look for are new gadgets and things which also look really nice. Unfortunately, this "quest" for good looking tech with LEDs all over the place and branding means that we aren't really paying for good stuff. In fact, with some of these, you end up paying for just the looks instead of quality. I'm looking at companies like Razer and Turtle Beach who use flashy "gamer imagery" to peddle their products to the average consumer who may or may not have a clue what they're looking for. Personally, I've fallen for this so many times when I was younger. For my fourteenth birthday, I received a Razer Naga Hex, which at the time I thought was an absolutely great mouse and for RPGs, it was. But it had serious issues with durability. Until I replaced it once and for all, I was on my fourth mouse. I'll give them this, the mouse was comfortable and the pinky rest was a nice feature, but it had serious issues with it's awful sensor and honestly, I'd rather not use Synapse because in my opinion, it's slow and clunky. Another time I got burned was with my Turtle Beach Earforce P11s. I thought these were going to be great headphones, especially for gaming. When I got it for Christmas, I got super giddy and immediately hooked it up to my TV to experience surround sound gaming. The problem with them was that they were uncomfortable and broke easily. I ended up buying two pairs before I gave up on them. The reason why I was sold on them was just because they seemed shiny to me at the time. This makes Turtle Beach another prime example of a company who just want to sell headsets without giving a damn about the people buying them, regardless of the fact that these people made the company successful. However, that is not to say that tech has to be ugly to function properly. I currently use my favourite mouse of all time, the Logitech G402. It feels great in the hand and looks great too, it doesn't scratch easily and has customisable LED lighting settings, on-the-fly DPI options and a button which you can hold to temporarily reduce the DPI in order to make your shots or whatever else more accurate. Corsair's mechanical keyboards look great and I'm even using one right now, they work great and just don't die. What we need is a compromise. Laptops, mice, keyboards and whatever else which can look great while focusing on great product design. We need companies to step away from this approach of pandering to the young gaming audience by selling them £50+ headphones which sound bad and just break in a few months. [Or don't, in the event that I accidentally broke the rules]
  17. (A link to the article: NintendoLife.com) Nintendo are up against Microsoft and Sony when it comes down to gaming networks on the console. Microsoft and Sony are rocking the top 3 with a tie for first place on the network quality. Though both have a great and stable network, Nintendo is producing the better games in my opinion. I like the games that come out for the Nintendo console better, no doubt. But I straight up don't play them as often because I don't have anyone to play them with. Nintendo are really losing the race this way, so them looking into making the online experience better is a great step in the right direction if you ask me. Why do region locks exist anyway? They mostly produce their own games, so why do they block players from around the world from interacting and enjoying the game together? Alright, that was my opinion on this topic. What do you guys think? Greetz, Alean
