  1. I have had both this CPU and motherboard for about 3 years with no major issues so far. In the last month I'd had 1-2 BSODs where the message said something about CPU power delivery errors. Today after I replaced the RAM I had in it with some new Trident Z RGB ram I bought. It booted for a few seconds, seemed like it was going to post (screen went from no input to black) and then restarted with no post. After that it booted again, the RGB lighting on the ram turned on, and then a second later the whole PC shut off. I tried powering it on a third time, and this time it would power on for about half a second, lights would flash and whatnot (00 displayed on the 8 segment) and then it would instantly shut off. I tried the old ram, a different PSU and even no RAM. The only thing that worked to get the board to turn on without seemingly dead shorting the power supply was removing the CPU. After doing that the board powered up normally (albeit without a CPU). What I'm wondering is, is this more likely the motherboard, or the CPU? It seems like it could be either, since there might be a short in the CPU power delivery circuitry, or the CPU could be dead shorted. Either one is expensive to test replacing (~$250 for a new motherboard and ~$290 for a new cpu), but which one is more likely? Also does anyone think the RAM might've killed it? I tried plugging the RAM in too with no CPU and its RGB turned on. Thanks, Alec
  2. Hello. I want to buy a I7 6950x fast! Need to be from EU. tell me what you have
  3. (I want my dad to finance a part of my future computer) What arguments could I give to my dad in order for him to stop being only attracted to Alienware? I can't seem to reason him and he doesn't want to listen to me each time I show him far better deals on Kijiji (local EBay lookalike) and the only time he does, it's to respond to me by saying that you have no warranty whatsoever. Please?
  4. hey, i upgraded to Asus rog x99 gaming and 6950x cpu and i got drop in fps compared to my previous build which was Z170 with i7 6700k. i play world of warcraft legion. i need help
  5. Hey guys, I've tracked down two potential CPUs for a 4K editing workstation/gaming build and I was hoping for some insight from those who have tried them. On one hand I've found a 6950X for $1100, and 6900K for $700. I know I definitely don't need the 6950X, but for as good of a deal as it is should I snatch it? In other words, is it worth it at that price? Also, I don't love the X99 Deluxe-II but I want to do an Aura RGB build so can anyone recommend a good Asus x99 board with Broadwell-E support? Thanks!
  6. Hi guys, Alex here back with another build log! I think it's been a while since I've been on the forums now, a lot of stuff has been happening! I'm very happy however to bring you guys another build log with the very exclusive IN WIN D-Frame 2.0 NVIDIA Edition chassis! I am super excited to be working on this build as I find this chassis absolutely stunning! I'm not sure if there are many NVIDIA edition versions of this case around at the moment, I definitely know that this is the only one in Australia which makes it a huge privilege so I hope I can do it justice with a nice build in it! The mods are not gonna be anything too crazy as I really don't want to change much on such a stunning case nor do I want to paint or drill into it! I will be creating some custom panels from acrylic and adding some nice vinyl effects as people that follow my work have come to expect from my builds! I'm calling this one IN WIN DUKE, simply because the frame resembles the inner chassis of a Ducati motorcycle so nice and easy with the name there! It's an honour again to be able to do this and have the opportunity to work with such amazing companies. The sponsors on this build are IN WIN, NVIDIA, ASUS, Western Digital, AVEXIR, Bitspower, CableMod and for the first time ever for one of my builds, INTEL, with a very unexpected package as you will from the specs below! You can find more information about the respective vendors in the links below and follow their channels if you wish: Intel - https://www.facebook.com/intelaustralia NVIDIA - https://www.facebook.com/NvidiaANZ ASUS - https://www.facebook.com/asusaustralia IN WIN - https://www.facebook.com/INWINANZ Western Digital - https://www.facebook.com/WDAustralia AVEXIR - https://www.facebook.com/AVEXIR Bitspower - https://www.facebook.com/Bitspower CableMod - https://www.facebook.com/CableMod Hope you guys enjoy this one! SPECS: Case – IN WIN D-Frame 2.0 NVIDIA Edition Motherboard – ASUS X99 Deluxe II CPU – Intel Core i7 6950X Memory – 8 x 4GB AVEXIR Core White & Green LED DDR4 GPU – 2x NVIDIA GTX 1080 Founders Edition SLI - NVIDIA 3-Slot High Bandwidth Bridge SSD – 120GB AVEXIR S100 Green LED HDD - 4TB Western Digital Red Pro PSU – In Win S-III 1065W Cables & LEDs - CableMod Radiators – 360mm Bitspower Leviathan Extreme, 2 x 120mm Bitspower Leviathan Slim Fans – 5 x In Win Aurora 120mm fans Pump – Bitspower DDC Plus with Bitspower Premium DDC Mod Top Reservoir – 2 x Bitspower Hexagon Reservoirs Fittings – Various Bitspower Black Sparkle Fittings Tubing – Bitspower Crystal Link 16mm PETG CPU/MB Block – Bitspower AIX99D Full Cover Water Block And without any further delays, here's a good look at the case and fans that arrived from IN WIN! Thanks for checking it out guys and stay tuned for more! Cheers, Alex
  7. Frig I hate upgrading. Just had to get that out of the way Last upgrade was Oct 2008 (just over 8+ years) and I don't really fallow computer hardware trends that much between upgrades so I end up having to relearn a bunch of stuff come time to upgrade. Me mind is going all mushy If you are TLDR adverse read Intro then skip down to bottom. Intro ------------ /Sigh time for some TLDR. First a little background about myself. I'm a self taught programmer of 30+ years going back to MSDOS. I currently don't really make any money programming but hoping to change that … eventually. Although I consider myself a gamer I have not really been playing to many games these last few years. Mostly simple games like Utopian Miner, Agar.io, Solitair, Duck Tails, Brutal Doom. Simple games that don't require a huge time investment. I also played World of Warcraft from late BC to end of WoD 5/3/15 but grew disinterested, because various reasons and my system can't play it at max settings & addons, getting sluggish frame rates. Again 2008 system can't exactly play DOOM 4 at ultra settings,. so have not been playing any recent games. GTA IV was very sluggish. And much as my steam library keeps growing with never played games, THANK YOU LORD GABIN, THANK YOU SO DAM MUCH! #TwoFingerEyePoint #SteamSales #Sarcasm, VR may get me playing larger games that require a longer investment of time. And I very much would like to dabble in VR development as I have some ideas I'd like to play around with. My current 2008 system specs can be found here https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/createdbyx/saved/#view=smNqsY I started using google spreadsheets to list off all the various upgrades I was interested in but it quickly became too cumbersome when I started trying to mix and match items. Spreadsheet available here (out of date don't use as reference) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x5doU2-TaIgSKVsjjt_XGTNq7un7_iKPSmzte-eLcEs/edit?usp=sharing So then I figured I would just write a WPF app to help me decide what hardware to go with. It's not helping either and is leading me to suffer the dreaded Analysis paralysis. Cost Calculator app available as attached file (Works but still beta, ask if it does not work for u, Windows 7+, WPF & .NET 4 etc) CostCalculatorDataNew.xml is my current dataset as of Nov 14, 2016 Fanboy much? ---------- Quick note about AMD/Nvidia/Intel, I don't consider myself a fanboy of any company, but traditionally I have only went with AMD parts CPU and GPU all the way back to 2000's. I have gone with AMD all these years because I understand what can happen if AMD were ever to tank. You think Intel prices are high? How high would they be with out AMD keeping them in check. I mean who else is there that has the resources to get into the CPU/GPU game? Qualcomm? Hah, das funny. My point is I have gone with AMD not because they offer the best of the best parts but because they offer a decent cost effective alternative to there competitors. Without them I fear what could happen. So for the last 2-3 years I've been hearing about AMD's ZEN and have held off upgrading these last few years so that I can purchase a Zen cpu but go figure here I am again with money in the bank for a upgrade and Zen is no where to be found. Pushed back til sometime 2017 and as of yet Nov 2016 with no real hardware in the hands of reviewers other then one controlled blender benchmark. I'm sorry AMD but it's time for me to upgrade, I've waited and been waiting and your offerings are too little to late. I suspect high end Zen chips will still not be able to compete with the likes of a 6900K or just barely. And heard rumors of $300-$400 price? I can't see them releasing a enthusiast CPU that can compete with a 6950X or Xeon. It sucks but it is what it is. Perhaps in another 6+ years I'll go back to a AMD offering but for this upgrade cycle it's not looking good. About Programming --------------- I have 23Gigs of compresssed (*.zip) json files that I have downloaded from the blizzard world of warcraft auction house API. From Dec 2013 to Dec 2014. Was going to use it for my Wowtracks website so I can perform an analysis of economic changes both before and after the realm merges that blizz was doing. Thought it be interesting to see how a realm merge affected the economy of a server. But uncompressed it's like 100Gb and would require painful amounts of processing time. I am also writing a search app to parse through it and ask questions etc. Not even gonna attempt it with my current system as I'll be dead and buried before I get back any results. I also would like to start getting more into Genetic algorithms (specifically terrain generation, procedural game worlds), been dabbling with them a bit but again it can require a lot of processing, and take a long time, and greatly benefits from more cores if coded right. I also need to develop some unity3d related code that requires a whole lot of processing time. Because my system is unable to play modern games I have been spending most of my time programming my various projects. It spend virtually 7 days a week coding, and usually up til 4am & sometimes 7 am. Stupid primate body always having to waste time sleeping and pewpin and stuff Current 2008 system ----------- Although it has served me well, my $3200 2008 system is showing it's age. Running VS.NET 2015 with a few extensions, and a 240 project solution can be unbearably slow at times, and even doing simple actions, takes 1-2 seconds where back 2008 there was no waiting, almost all tasks were instant and no lag. Last big game I played was GTA IV and even on low settings it was sluggish, probably CPU bound. Have not bought any new games last few years because can't run em at max settings. got a GTX 660 hand me down from my brother but yeah, twas not an upgrade. Ran Steam VR test and said CPU was good but I don't trust it given my experience. See attached screen shot. Because Reasons: ------------ Processor: 6 Core minimum 6850K & 10+ Cores prefered E5-2640 V4 / E5-2697 V3 / E5-2690 V4 -> For your average Gamer/Power user a 6700K from what I'm reading is more then enough, but for me the more cores I can get my hands on the better. 6700k-6800k 28 PCIE lanes, and only 4-6 cores makes me uneasy as I don't think it can stand the test of time IE: 8+ year upgrade cycles. 10-14 Core chips I think will hold up much better long term for programming, video editing etc, but may suffer long term for gaming in terms of there slower clock speeds & single core performance. On the other hand DX12 looks to improve multicore gaming perf and 6+ years down the line having those extra cores could prove beneficial and may not be a bottle neck after all. Kind of a toss up. Going with a 10+ core system means making sacrifices. Not costly sacrifices just undesirable ones aka no VR! /SadFace. BTW I believe the E5-2697 V3 is what linus used in the 7 gamers 1 pc build so I know it can play modern games. Video Card: Minimum RX 480 (or crossfire) but GTX 1080 preferred not because Nvidia fan boy but because it's one of the best single card solutions available at the moment, Titan X too pricey for budget. RX 480 in crossfire is cheaper and basically on par with GTX 1080 performance but again 2 cards, double power usage, and if water cooled need 2 water blocks which adds cost. RX 480 PCI voltage drama a little while back and I'm hearing 1080 over heating/smoking on some cards don't give me a lot of confidence but what can you do when they are the only viable options /shrug If I get VR with my upgrade will need best GFX card I can get. Power Supply: I've got a Corsair TX850 watt. It's got plenty of power for any system I build, but again it's 8+ years old. How long can a power supply last? I'm a heavy computer user & on the computer every day multiple hours a day. Do I really want to trust a heavily used 8+ year old PSU with new (expensive) system components, and for how much longer before I upgrade it. I'm leaning towards a 1200-1500 watt PSU. I don't care about power bills, I care about dead silent operation under demanding CPU/GPU loads. 1200W and above seems like they don't kick in there fans until 40% power usage and my various components will probably be 400W to 550W putting it at basically that 40% power usage rate. Fa, la, la, la ,la,... la la la la: Christmas sales or boxing week sales? Buy now or wait a few more weeks? Decisions decisions. VR Gets & Deserves it's own dedicated section! ----------------------- Oh VR, the little technology that could. For you youngins out there us old geezers remember the day way back when. A time when Nintendo power magazine was the shit, the SNES was king and the internet was but a dream. A 56k dialup dream. Oh yes VR was not invented by the lucky palmer, but in fact has been a technology in development for many a decades. So why is it only gaining popularity now? Because it's only now that it actually makes sense from a hardware specs perspective. I made a blog post on my website where I laid down some of my thought about the recent state of VR. In that (more TLDR) blog post I lay out my concerns and the almost dejavu history of VR as we know it today. 20 Years ago I had the opportunity to buy a VR head set Forte VFX1 but never did. With the way things are going I fear VR is teetering on the edge of falling back into the abyss of oblivion. Only to be resurrected once again in the future. Again it's dejavu, here I am with the means to get into VR and here I am again on the fence. I hate that feeling. I HATE IT. Do I dive in, or do I wait. We are already seeing vr adoption rates plateauing according to steam surveys. If you are reading this you are already a technology inclined person. This is linus tech tips after all. So don't ever forget that you live in a technology bubble. So don't think VR is here to stay. It's way to early to call it. It's about the exercise! No, really. It really is. If you read through all this TLDR you know that I spend a lot of time on my ass. VR, especially room scale VR will get me off my ass and get active. Especially over the winter months up here in Canada where I don't get out side much. Summer time I'm out side cycling, swimming every other day. But sure would be nice come winter where I could stay active and play games to boot! I'm also wondering what the refresh cycle of VR is going to be like. Yearly, every 2 years? I'm already seeing revamps from both Oculus and Vive with wireless functionality, and new controllers, tweaked headsets. Given VR has been available for a few months now should I wait? Or say screw it and dive in nao. If I did get a VR helmet I think I would start making VR videos of various types. Certainly not what every one else is doing but something different from a programmers perspective. As for Vive or Oculus? Oculus: Room scale *beta*, Initially designed for seated experiences, no controllers til December, better designed controllers then vive in my opinion, Facebook #grumble #grumble stupid facebook, Flirting with DRM in the past, causing uproars/drama. What did you expect it's Facebook, aesthetically better overall look/feel/design! Vive: Room scale, comes with controllers, light houses, some researchers/articles claiming 0.3mm accuracy (lasers beh beh! pew pew), front facing camera, chaperone system, STEAM! Our lord and savior Gabin. Half-Life 3 confirmed & coming soon for VR. Don't act like it isn't! Really, Gabe, really? Kind of on the nose there partnering with HTC. HTC = Halflife Three Confirmed!. You want to sell a crap ton of headsets. Half life three confirmed. Aw yeah! Also I would love to start programming some VR stuff that I have been thinking about but kinda need a headset to do that. Very pricey head sets. See Sacrifices section. Sacrifices ------------ I'm willing to forgo a M.2 SSD, Power Supply, Quieter Case Fans, Water Cooling. Also willing to go air cooling and put up with more unbearable fan noise, *sigh* if I have to. I have a Surface Pro 2 and dam, the only thing I hear is the click of a mouse. Was really hoping to build a dead silent PC but we'll see. My current system is 2-3 feet away and is loud as *bleep* and very annoying. I really really really, perdy pweeze can i haz some VR? Pleace don't repeat your self history please don't. In some builds I sacrifice VR and put that money towards a beefier CPU and system, but no VR /cries *Some* Builds I'm considering -------------- All builds you see here are copied from the CostCalculator app i wrote. 8. Looking for some recommendations on cases and boards for a slim compact 6950X build that would sit on top of my desk and not take up too much space? Looking at a Micro ATX board, 1 PCIe slot for an NVidia or AMD Graphics slot, 2 other PCIe slots for M.2 NVME Drives on small boards, an onboard NVME Drive. Trying to identify the case / board / graphics card combo that is small enough to sit on a desk and not be a monster case. The build will only be editing videos/photos - not a gaming machine, will end up with 32GB of RAM. Looking for examples and thoughts and build examples from the community if anyone has done something similar with the high TDP of a 6950X.

  12. Hey guys, I was perusing the Amazon when a came across this. Intel CM8067102055800 CORE I7-6950X PROCESSOR EXTREME EDITION 3.50G 25M CACHE https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GIO0QNC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cvIuBbTY0HWQ8 Now, I don't know what to think of this. It's listed as "new" and more than half the price of other 6950x's. It's also missing most of the specs. I'm petty sure it's a scam but was wondering what you guys think.

  14. Hello and welcome to my Build Log of switching from my current Ryzen platform to Intels x99 . My journey to this started rather random and a bit complicated but i will explain. 2 Weeks ago, i went to my local hardware dealer and searched for a wifi card. I looked and found one until this one thing caught my attention. There was an MSI x99 Godlike Gaming Carbon for sale at 150 Euros. This is a roughly 550 ish board with everything I could wish in brand new! And it was the last one ofc xD. I thought to myself neeeh switching again is not worth it and I also started a post in the forum about Ryzen 7 vs x99 (I switched for a 6600k to a 1700x on Black Friday last year) . The offer was valid until the end of the day and I went home. I called a good friend of mine on what he thinks cause he has a x99 system himself. And now it becomes interesting xD. He told me that he wants to sell his whole system with a 6950x 10 Core for a better laptop for studying cause he hasn’t really that much time for gaming anymore. His asking price for me was 400 bucks for the 6950x which is definitely a friendly price so I asked him to put it off ebay and he did so. It was 17:30 pm and my local shop closes at 18:00 pm so I rushed the shit of my 80-horsepower car and got in 5 mins before they closed and literally throwed the money in the guy’s face. Close call but I was happy (everybody needs some luck once in a while xD). Also, being back in my car I realized that I paid 110 Euros, tho the first price was 150 Euros. So that was the biggest steal I have ever made xD. Back to Ryzen now…. I enjoyed switching to it from my 6600k (it made 5 GHz stable btw) to the 1700x because I could do a lot more multi-tasking and it hold up a lot better in rendering and streaming. The biggest flaw tho was the 144hz (oc to 165hz) problem. I bought an ACER Predator Z271T for 350 bucks off amazon in February which was also a great deal considering its MSRP of 800 $. It took my experience to the next level like day and night (guess that’s normal xD). But my fricking PC just can´t get the 165 Hz stable in all games that I play. Most of these games are e-Sports titles that do not even need a fraction of my 1080ti. Best example League of Legends. I know, I know its programmed like shit but that’s so frustrating being at 100 frames average on a 2.5 k machine. A friend of mine with a GTX 970 and an i5 4460 gets 144 Frames constant no problems at all…. I googled my way down a few days and I am not the only person with this problem. There is a general fault with Nvidia AMD combos in this game and some others that are not programmed well enough. I bought a 3200 MHz Ryzen Ram kit for 250 bucks and OCed it to 3466 at CL12 Timings with rather mild performance gains to remove any possible bottleneck. I am at a point now where I just want a system that does not make these kinds of problems. Also I had many issues with my motherboard´s VRMs but that’s not Ryzen´s fault. Bottom Line: Gaming above 60 Hz please go Intel. I didn’t hear to people that gave me this advice last year and it sucked! Advantages of x99 over the Ryzen Platform (6950X) : -more cores -higher frequency -more lanes (got a sound card, M.2 drive, legato stream card) -much more premium feel to me (Mainboard) -a lot better and easier overclocking -cost if you can get a good deal (A 120$ board plus for example a 250$ 6850k is cheaper than Ryzen) Disadvantages of x99 : -Upgrade path (tho the 6950X will serve me for like 5 years) and its getting cheaper -Power consumption (all chips are 140W or above) -Heat Building was actually a breeze tho it took some time to get the water out of my loop because i had no drain port. I also fixed this in progress. The board is E-ATX formfactor. My Case the Thermaltake Core P3 supports up to ATX on paper. I googeld through some posts in other formus but i found close to nothing. I obviously hat to swap my mounting bracket on the EK Supremacy EVO but that was rather easy and i had time to clean it up tho it was rather in factory condition. The new board is about 3 centemeters wider than my old one so it does hang up the cable cutouts on the right side, but it fits quiét nicely in the end: So if anybody plans to do the same thing it works with some compromises. For the finished build i swapped my block LED´s to UV ones because my new fluid is UV reactive but i wished it would glow a little more. Maybe i will get some more UV lights down the line. If you know some good ones feel free to recommend in the comment section . Last but not least the finished build after adjusting some tube length around the CPU block: My overclocking results for the 6950X are more than i thought i would get (12 Phases and extra Pins help i guess ). Stable end results are 4.6 GHz at 1.35V Core Voltage with 1.9V inline Voltage and Cache at 3.5 GHz at 1.115V. But it runs quiet hot at close to under 80 degrees in Aida64. I think that a 360 40mm rad is not enough in the long run especially during hot summer days. But man this board is a dream. The Bios is clean AF and the settings are very well thought (quiet like Asus). Sodtware is mostly not needed but optional and the Audio System works great. So if you followed this Build Log until right here i am interested in your opinoin and experience with gaming on ryzen at high refresh rates. Thanks for reading my post, peace out Josh
  15. Amazon: http://geni.us/apw0ee NCIX: http://bit.ly/29u5MFb Do more cores make for a better processor? Let's find out if the Intel 6950X can justify its seemingly ridiculous US$1,700 pricetag...
  16. So I was browsing through YouTube, curious to see what kind of PCs they were using. On a particular channel though, when I clicked the link for the site (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/) it at first seemed normal. Then, I headed into the configurator just to see what I could find, when this little option appeared-(http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/). From that X99 section, you have the full range of Broadwell-E CPUs that aren't even released to the public as of yet fully listed. Although I'm not entirely certain if this is already known, I decided in case it wasn't to post it
  17. Anandtech has posted their review of Broadwell-E and it seems like the top processor is listed for a whoppig 1700 bucks, even more than what people expected. http://www.anandtech.com/show/10337/the-intel-broadwell-e-review-core-i7-6950x-6900k-6850k-and-6800k-tested-up-to-10-cores
  18. Looking at the new flagship line and I was just curious to see how different the new line up is from the 5xxx lineup. It seems the 10 code 6950x is the only really new one. is it worth upgrading from a 5820k to any of the new processors? Looking at doing a bit of upgrading in my PC in the nearish future.
  19. After a long wait I'm pretty excited and want to get my hands on the i7-6900K. That's some crazy performance if all 8 cores can hit 3.7GHz and higher with OC. 20. Hi all! This is my first post, and I figured this forum is the place to go for anything PC related. Sooo, here is the task at hand fellas! I'm a design hobbyist, I’ve built my first 3 workstation computers in the past year and recently graduated in mechanical engineering, so I'm not a noob with the subject but also not an expert. Now, a friend of mine that owns a private engineering company has asked me to build him a workstation that will flex the capabilities of his firm. His definition of "flexing" is raw power, as well as being visually/aesthetically robust, with the goal of attracting new clients and contracts by creating the perception of potentially higher ceilings and expanded capabilities. Long story short, I have until the launch of the new 10-core, Intel i7-6950X in early Q2 of 2016 to get all components of this workstation ready for ordering, after which I will build this bad boy myself in their headquarters! He has already approved the case I've chosen to build on and given the machine a name, appropriately, JARVIS. http://thermaltakeusa.com/Chassis/Mid_Tower_/Core/C_00002732/Core_P5/design.htm I'm not trying to spend $10K on this build, but if that turns out being the case, so be it.... If you catch my drift! We want to save where we can but not at the expense of pure quality. That being said, I have a strong feeling my greatest dilemma will be choosing which NVIDIA graphics solution to equip. OK... now to the fun part. For starters, the 3 workstations I've built (first WS build was mine, next 2 for college buddies and each more and more powerful) have ALL been optimized for SolidWorks 2015 CAD with occasional sims and rendering. All Windows 10 now, i7, Quadro K4200 and M4000. SolidWorks uses OpenGL, therefore, Quadro. JARVIS will be outfitted with Linux Mint and potentially Windows 10 Pro, using the new Autodesk Inventor 2016 suite with Navisworks, among other add-ons, which from now on will be updated constantly, rather than new-year models of the software being launched. Seems to be the trend these days! I have no experience with Linux. This company’s current time agenda: large assemblies of all types, including large thermal systems, consumer product design, plant and factory design, and validation, as CQ is an engineering consulting firm with close to 100 clients. 90% CAD, 10% FEA, ANSYS flowsim, rendering, etc. As well, converting parts/assemblies or STEP files to and from other software like SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, etc. More rendering could be plausible, though. From what I’ve seen, presentation and appearance are extremely valuable to gaining favor and can be the difference in convincing a client to shell out more than they expected by showing them a glimpse of the light… From what I’ve read, Inventor doesn’t use OpenGL, so many users claim Quadro is unnecessary. I have no idea. I have heard good and bad ends of this spectrum, though most things I’ve read are dated. I use SolidWorks so the choice is easy for me: most Quadro you can afford. Autodesk is not SolidWorks, though. The M6000 and the Titan X are competitive on the stat sheets. I’ll customize the liquid cooling for this build so heat is not a concern. Should I go Titan X, this is the candidate: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XEW3Y40?refRID=RW0BFZ44EFNDMMF3CEFS&ref_=pd_ybh_a_21 For me to select gaming graphics, I’m going to need some solid guarantees that it will not only handle everything thrown its way, but do it in a manner superior to a competitively priced Quadro M4000 or M5000, and close to equivalent of the M6000. Due to lack of experience with the software, I cannot confirm whether Autodesk is capable of taking advantage of SLI or Quadro Sync. As well, with each subsequent WS I've built, I chose to max out the mobo's RAM capacity as I (and my buddies as a result) am an advocate of 3Dconnexion's SpaceMouse Pro. This allows you to free up your standard 2D mouse for selection and commands while seamless navigating the view port in 6 axes/directions, simultaneously… If you’ve got the ram to prevent lagging. This, of course, is also dependent on the size/complexity of the part/assembly at hand. Some say 16 GB is enough RAM and 32 is overkill. Not the case when this hardware is in use. Given a large assembly around 2000 parts, on the best WS I’ve built so far, (which has 64 GB of HyperX DDR4 @ 2333 MHz on ASUS X99-A mobo, i7-5960X, Quadro M4000 and all OS and programs installed on 4 x Intel 730 SSD’s in RAID0) all I have to do to max out the RAM is turn on ambient occlusion and rotate the assembly with the 3D mouse. This is why, in any scenario, 128 GB of DDR4 RAM will be equipped, most likely to this mobo: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/X99E_WSUSB_31/overview/ Unless there is a better option. Which is why I’m here! I would love all the input I can get from those with some unbiased opinions!
