Been having trouble finding reviews on 1U server rack cases (without mobo). I have a PC build, ATX mobo w/ AIO water cooled 980ti, that I want to throw into a 1U case. If the AIO 980ti won't fit into 1U, I have another fan cooled 980ti I can swap it out for. After the recent Linus video, I know I'll be using a Thermaltake TT riser at least. Thank you LMG

(Wayport was an old ISP that offered wifi hotspots, they were acquired by AT&T in 2010 or something) I recently picked up an old 1U Wayport server off Craigslist for dirt cheap($20), I already know the hardware itself is crap (Even for 2008 standards) but i'm having trouble finding information about it. Specs: -CPU: Via i686 -RAM: Kingston ValueSelect 256MB -HDD: some 20gb WD IDE drive -PSU: 180W something My questions: - When i boot it up into Debian (what it had preinstalled) it asks for a Wayport Login despite the seller claiming this is a fresh install. Is this a standard login or am i hecked - What version of Debian would i need to install to get this working? (if i reformat) - Is this case a standard MITX form factor that i can install a newer mobo into? - I keep getting a "USB over-volt error" on startup. Is that fine? (only has two USB ports) Don't really have a use for this machine, Maybe a PiHole DNS server would be cool

I've got two old HP DL165 G7 servers that I've been using for lab environments at work along with folding and some other random things. I'm trying to install Server 2012 R2 now and when it gets to the Windows Installation screen the server just blue screens and restarts. If I dissolve the RAID and run 1 drive in AHCI the computer doesn't blue screen. The server was running Server 2016 and running folding jobs before this.... Maybe folding fried a CPU??? I watched temps and they never got above 50°C so I don't think thats the issue. Any ideas? The server restarts too quick to see what the error code on the blue screen is. Thanks in advance

So I've got an old server I am going to make into a F@H machine and I am needing to find a half length single slot GPU for the server it is going into. Any suggestions on best GPU? Thanks in advance

so.. me and my silly topics again.. during some cleanup at the office, we bumped into an ancient NAS that gave the ghost in 2012. because it was basicly useless (and LaCie.. a brand we dont really use anymore.. for reasons..) the boss mann let me keep it. the NAS in question i got turned out to be a 1u chassis with LaCie branding on the front, but otherwise basicly entirely standard. The hardware inside works.. but for those who follow me that saw my statusses about the via c7.. yeah.. via c7 isnt quite the beast.. comes to the topic at hand: its a standard chassis, i can fill it with whatever i want. below is a shot of what the guts look like, with some reference points laid overtop: short reference sheet: - uses an uncommon but standard formfactor power supply, i can find modern replacements for this "barely 80+" unit from 2007. it's notably good for being 11 years old, but it really needs to make room for something modern. - right along the middle is a crossbrace with way too few fans in it for propper cooling, but its removable and not of any structural importance, so i'm most likely gonna rip it out either way. - technically only mITX board support, but with the crossbrace removed it should squeeze in a full ATX board just BARELY. - 4x 3.5" HDD, the HDD currently in the picture is one i shoved in for testing the existing hardware. - 1 expansion slot that can plug into the mobo trough an extension, this one is also of a very common size, so i should be able to find a pcie right angle header just fine. - outlined in orange, is some wasted space in the front, that i'm pretty set on claiming for RGB goodness (gotta have RGB in a NAS) and would make for a very nice new home for the chassis' cooling fans. all 3 of the sunon maglevs in the crossbrace have seen better days (how does one break a sunon maglev?) so i'm planning on putting 6x 40mm fans behind the front grille. comes to the main meat and potatoes of this thread.. i have no idea of what to put in this box, nor do i have a specific budget in mind.. within reason obviously.. i've had some ideas for what to do with this thing: - put a new low power board in this, and essentially make a modern reincarnation of what this thing was in 2007. - go with a higher power board, and offload some duties off my main server, potentially having a windows and linux server side by side, each doing what they do best. - whatever it turns into, i'd prefer to use it either as primary network storage, or to pull backups from my main server. some things to keep in mind, that are notable challenges in this build: - it's a 1U chassis, most coolers simply dont fit, even the standard rear I/O with 3 audio ports (headphone, microphone, line in) doesnt fit. - the specific type of power supply used doesnt really exist in very high power output capacities - it'll be sitting in a house, it needs to be somewhat bearable on the "decibel" scale. does anyone have some ideas or advice on what to do with this thing? i'm pretty much in uncharted terretory with this thing. my budget is able to "flex" along with the capabilities of whatever ends up going in this thing. if it's only ending up as a NAS it'll be considerably slimmer than if it ends up being a capable server. i'm mostly looking for advice for things to keep in mind with a 1U build, specific ideas, and what sort of OS to pair with the hardware that ends up going in here.

Hello Everybody! So, I need to help a friend get a 1U 19" Rackmount NAS. It should be as cheap as possible, but with sufficient (maybe a bit more) performance. In the beginning there will be 2 drives (6TB) and there should be a possibility to expand > 4 drive bays would be good He / his family, will almost exclusively use the NAS for media streaming. (~ 5 concurrent streams maximum, I would guess). Which NAS would you recommend? Thank you in advance!

Hey guys, I picked up two free servers from work. They're HP DL165 G7's with 2x AMD Opteron™ 6128 (2.0GHz/8-core/12MB/115W) Processor's per host. I'm trying to figure out what I can do with these and make them useful. They don't have any RAM or HDD's so thats something I would have to purchase. Are they worth throwing a couple hundred a piece into? Thanks

Hey guys, So I bought myself a 15U Navepoint 450mm rack cabinet to house all of my equipment as I'm entering the realm of rack mountable devices. Just got the UDM-Pro for it which is great along with my Synology DS1819+. Long story short, things are starting to get a bit toasty. I mean I can't even close the cabinet door. Granted this comes with one exhaust fan on top. So I bought a couple of AC Infinity Rack Roof exhaust fans to try and help as well as this cheap 1U fan to get some more airflow. Everything appears to work, but man is that fan loud! It would be nice to throw some noctua fans in as a replacement, but I believe it's 120v though I don't know (haven't opened it up yet). I've seen (if it is 120v) that I can likely get a 120v plug to molex connector and then a molex to 4x 3/4 pin connectors to try to get it to work. I guess the question is, is this the best route? Am I missing something obvious instead? I'm trying to keep the budget down obviously (as I've spent enough lately) and am somewhat limited. Additionally, I have concerns that the db trade-off will substantially impact the cooling capability. I have been digging into CFM vs m³/h and seem to have a rough grasp on airflow vs. static pressure but not enough to determine which will favor me better vs what I actually need. Anyone have any thoughts or how to complete this or just a better alternative? Ultimately i'd like to keep things cool as well as keep the noise down as it is in my bedroom closet and it is a bit noisy. Also, I have the top exhaust going though flex duct lines into the attic to minimize sucking in hot air.

Hey guys, I'm a bit new to planning out a streaming server build and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a Server Chassis. Bonus points for those that have hot-swappable bays built in and I would like to keep it under $200 (Not including shipping). Requirements include the ability to house an E-ATX Motherboard as well as at least two 3.5" HDD bays/slots. So far, the best deal I was able to find was this case which has a $50 dollar shipping charge... http://www.rackmountmart.com/rm2u/rm2044.htm

I am doing this to build a bigger NAS then my current one (10TB off the shelf device) and to possible run apps/games off it and to tinker on Windows Server. I first starting Off with the server part then add HDD later on when I saved up some extra money. Right now I will run my plex server off of it instead off of my desktop (should have better transcoding now) and maybe move my VPS teamspeak server over (not sure on that). I plan on messing with a few game servers. The MOBO has 2 1GbE and 2 10GbE ports, right now I have them teamed as 4 1 GbE ports. I did a test of transferring a file from my desktop and NAS to the server at the same time and was able to get 112MB/s on both. Parts List: MOBO: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SDV-TLN4F-O CPU: Xeon D-1541 RAM: G.SKILL NT Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 Case: Athena Power RM-1U100DM308 OS Drive: Samsung 950 PRO -Series 512GB PCIe NVMe 5.25" hotsawp bay 4x2.5": iStarUSA BPU-124DE-SS (for SSD's way down the road. Rack cabinet: 6U 20" Deep ATA Rack Amp Road Case (added 4 wheels) UPS: CyberPower OR1000LCDRM1U Switch: Dell PowerConnect 2824 OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Planned for later date: 8 3-4TB HDD in 2 1U HDD racks connected to server by USB 3.0, SAS, or eSATA 10 GbE switch (Quanta LB4M) 4 SSD's (way down the road) Pictures I will have more pictures in the next few days. I have just acquired a HP ProLiant DL140 G3. I need assistance in sourcing a cage/rack to fit it into. All i want is the cheapest, nastiest one that i can pick up without uber expense and keep the thing off the floor. Taken from page 30 of this official pdf http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04285914.pdf HxWxD 1.70 x 16.78 x 27.75 (inches) or 4.32 x 42.62 x 70.49 (cm) I do not know if it will fit all cages or if there are standards and variances. If anyone can help me source a cage for it (not looking for a 24 rack pls :p) then i would appreciate it. Budget is no problem i just do not have any experience in this area. If it helps im in the UK so ideally would like a UK supplier, would prefer not to import due to extra taxation costs and weight shipping costs. Thankyou.

Hey everyone, I've never posted on this forum before so, hi! I need some help. I am trying to find a good 1u case about 10 inches in depth to house a simple little intel atom server. All it is going to have is the mobo, an SSD, and the PSU. The only problem is I'm having trouble finding a good one for a low price. Does anyone either know of a good one or know a good case manufacturer? Thanks

Hi LTT Community, I'm building a rack mounted server (it is actually going to be a router) and I need a 1U power supply. I have looked around but there are no brands I recognize as I have not done much with server building before. I don't know what brands are reliable and well made. On PC Part Picker with estimates that the server will use 69 watt so 100 watt psu would be good but I could not see any that low, so as close as possible. It needs to be efficient as well as not to expensive (lower the better but reliable and safe) plus no longer than 200mm. I am in Britain if that matters. Thanks, Max

Hi, I am planning on building a router/firewall in a 1U case, I just don't know what power supply to use. People have recommended a power supply like the Seasonic 200 or 250. http://seasonic.com/product/ss-200-su-active-pfc-f0/ But I cannot find anywhere what sells them. Does anyone know or have a better power supply? It will need to be about 100W+ and the lower the price the better but reliable. Thanks, Max

So I might get this PSU, but what is bugging me out are the connectors, on the site it says that it includes: 1x24 pin ATX, 1xCPU EPS and 1x Molex. For me it seems stupid because even the SS250-SU comes with way more connectors... but I'm doubting because it's a BULK unit. The most common variant of this PSU comes with: -ATX connector -4 Pin EPS -2xMolex -1xFloppy -4x SATA But what does this PSU include in that shop? And no, they don't sell it in other shops.

So with the current Steam Machine craze, I decided to think out side the box ( see what I did there ) so here is the craziness. This is meant to take advantage of Steam's in home streaming. I could put tech names but these are just gonna be casual description and links so you guys can look at it: So here is what i'm starting out with. A PNY 512 MB 9800GT Power Edition, 2 x 2 Gb 1333 DDR3 SO-DIMM ram, 2.5" 120Gb 5400 rpm cannibalized laptop hard drive. It's basically a M-ITX board with a celeron 847 soldered to the board. This is a 1U server case with an 80 plus bronze 200 watt power supply. PCI Express riser card is needed because the full length slot is horizontal in the back. Since the case doesn't come with any fans, I was thinking I might need a bit of air flow ( sarcasm ) so i'm gonna get 2 or 3 of these. So what do you think. Any feedback would be great.
