So just looking for opinions / advice really. I really like the look of the Razerbook 13, with its slim, flush bezels and metal build. Im just wondering if anyone has any experience using it and how it is? Also if there are any similar laptops for a similar price, ideally 13-14" that have the same flush bezels and 16GB of RAM. Thanks! Note: I'll be using it for computer science and my university work (essays).

Dell XPS 9370/9380 4K Frankenstein'ed Screens
Simsyy posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
The Dell XPS 13 9370 and 9380 are incredibly similar laptops, primarily with the 9370's "up your nose" webcam being moved to the top in the refresh. I needed to replace my shattered screen on my 9370, but the eBay parts seller "accidentally" sold me a 1080p screen while advertising the 4k model. I found this out after finishing installing it. =( This got me wondering after a long zoom call last night where my friends inspected my individual nose hairs. Is it possible to attach a 9380's screen with the webcam up top, to the base of a 9370? Is there anything stopping me from creating my own Dr. Frankenstein's monster of a Dell XPS 9380's screen on to my 9370 base? I was taking a look at the iFixit guides here for the 9380, and the cable positioning, connectors, and hinge mounts are incredibly similar to the 9370's, but I haven't been able to find any concrete dimensions between the two models that would give me confidence to order the 9380's screen. While it would be a fun experiment, I don't necessarily want to be out 400 bucks just for shits and giggles. Is anyone able to help me find proper engineering dimensions that would either prove or disprove this crazy idea? Additionally, does anyone else have a 9380 that is willing to crack it open and take some dimensional measurements and pictures for me? Cheers, Simsyy -

Hey LTT forum, I need to make a decision between these two laptops. I will be using them for programming, web browsing and uni related things. (price is not an issue between them) The pros for the dell are: The screen, it is slimmer and lighter. The pros for the thinkpad are: The keyboard and trackpoint, bigger battery, tougher design. Let me know what you would choose to help me make my decision.

Buy Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 on Amazon: http://geni.us/QobzM Can Dell's new 13" 2-in-1 recapture the love Linus felt for their original XPS 12?

Well... I have a new laptop, the MSI GE62VR, It has an Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB, I have the latest drivers, and when i open Sony Vegas and i Click on 'See if there's CUDA Available' It says NO GPU AVAILABLE, but, the program itself its opened with the 1060, And when i render the video, it renders at te same speed as my CPU, and the CPU stands at 100%, so its using the CPU. I play games with the 1060 and bla bla bla, but i can't render with the 1060 because it says 'NO GPU AVAILABLE' How do i fix it? PD : In GPU-Z Says CUDA Available

Hello Everyone, Before starting to my first forum topic in this site, since I'm not a native speaker of English, sorry for my crappy sentences. I've been using my current laptop for 5 years now and it's not functioning properly for my use. I've been thinking for getting a new baby which can function well on both under high workload and games, and lightweight at the same time. Because of the reasons I've stated in my previous sentences, I'm in seesaw between two opinions. What I want from you guys is to state the pros and cons of these two devices to help me making my decision. Here's the amazon links of the models I'm thinking of: MSI GS43VR https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GS43VR-Phantom-Portable-i7-7700HQ/dp/B01N0V9QP3/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502972178&sr=8-2&keywords=msi+gs43vr ALIENWARE 13 R3 https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-AW13R3-7420SLV-PUS-Gaming-Laptop-Generation/dp/B01NCOOYYX/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 Your comments will be really helpful to me, thank you all in advance.

Just wanted to share. This might be old, but why on Earth is Alienware selling a 1050ti with only 2GB ram?

Hello! Just realized that when using gpu acceleration in Movie studio 13 every third frame or so is completely black and if i turn off gpu acceleration it works with no problems. I have been googleing around on the problem and seen some people with vegas having the same issue but their solutions to it doesnt work for me. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? System specs (most important ones): 2x GTX 980 I7 4770K //Frossaren

I haven’t had this laptop for long, but I think I can provide a pretty comprehensive review of what it’s actually like to live with this laptop. Yes there are plenty of reviews on laptop sites that sing the Yoga 720’s praises, and for good reason. But let’s face it. These guys that are reviewing these machines are not real consumers. They’re nerds, yes, but they’re just providing an overview of a laptop they got on loan. They didn’t have to shell out their own cash on this machine. They didn’t have to do extensive research before choosing this one over any other. That being said, let’s get started. The other day, I was shopping around at our local Best Buy for a laptop for school. The standard items were on my shopping list. Not too big, but not too small Good battery life, somewhere around 8 hours or more Half decent CPU for CAD and video editing SSD IPS screen Light weight My dad wasn’t exactly impressed with buying a Lenovo, a company that the credit card fraud analyst had never heard of, but I assured him that Lenovo knows what they are doing when it comes to building a productivity laptop. And oh boy do they. Everyone knows Lenovo for the ugly business laptops with the nipple in the middle of the keyboard, but they have certainly upped the sex appeal of their brand. The Yoga 720 embraces modern and sleek design with simple lines on a nice aluminum body. The build feels nice. There isn’t much flex to the case and they clearly use some high quality materials. The hinge isn't quite a one finger design, but I can't detect any drastic wobble, so that's not bad. And oh my god that screen. Now maybe I'm just so impressed by this guy because both of the panels I've been using on my desktop are okayish TN panels, but this IPS display is gorgeous. 1080p at 13.3 inches gives it a nice PPI, but the colors are just amazing. Only downsides of this screen is that it doesn't get that bright, and it's a touch screen. The fact that it's a touch screen isn't that big of a deal, but I think it's a gimmick. A side effect is that the screen is glossy which of course makes it one hell of a finger print magnet. However, I like glossy screens on IPS panels. I think it makes the colors look even better and allows them to pop even more. The bezels aren't bad either. The top, left, and right bezels are nice and thin, about 1/4" I think, but the bottom bezel is healthy. But I don't mind that. The fact that the rest of the bezels are so slim distracts from the thiccccc one on bottom and I really don't mind that choice. As a side effect, it raises your taskbar a little closer to what you're working on so you don't have to shift your eyes as far I think the pros out weigh the cons on the screen. I can't really complain about all that much. Yes finger prints are annoying, but it just looks so damn good that I can't really complain. Update: I disabled the touch screen in device manager which prevents the screen from freaking out when I want to clean it. I've also gotten better at not touching the screen, but dust and other particles are still very noticeable. Also getting fingerprints on the top bezels is impossible to avoid because there's nothing else for your finger to grab on to to open the laptop. Not that big of a deal, but I still carry a microfiber cloth with me to clean the screen once a week or so. I'd like to move on to this glorious keyboard. Lenovo's extensive experience in business machines really shines through on this guy. The keyboard travel is a little shorter than your average laptop, but just something about it feels amazing. I feel like my fingers are like precision sports shooters, darting around the keys at insane speed with high accuracy. The keystroke is a tiny bit heavier than your average Apple laptop, but the short travel distance allows you to fly across the keys. The backlighting is a nice touch, in a cool white, but I found that on my unit, the J, K, and L keys are noticeably dimmer than the rest. No biggy, I don't look at the keys when I type anyway, and if it bugs me, I can turn it off. The backlit keys have three settings, low, high, and off. There isn't much difference between low and high, but there's a nice, gradual fade between each setting when you hit FN+SPACE to toggle through the modes. It's not a requirement in a laptop for me, but it makes the machine look and feel more premium to see that ever so subtle glow. But like, I can't convey how much I love this keyboard. At my desk, I have a TKL Cherry mx blue board that I've been using for about 5 years. I instantly felt at home on the Yoga's board, getting rather close to my usual typing speed of 75wpm on my first typing test. The keyboard is honestly what sold me on this machine. It's simply a joy to type on. It's not very loud, but it just feeeeeeellllllssss so good. Update: After about three months with the laptop, I have noticed that the backlight is completely unnoticeable in any environment where there is even a modicum of light. In a dark room, it's a nice glow, but the two brightness settings are more like dim and slightly dimmer. I think I'll just keep it off unless I'm in the dark and I need special characters or something. Touch typing FTW I am writing this next part of the review after the honeymoon euphoria has worn off. As mentioned in the last update, I have been using this machine for school for about 3 months now. I must say that the battery life is disappointing. As I write this, I simply had my laptop open in chrome for an hour (with four tabs) occasionally browsing the forums or copying a quote from my hilarious econ teacher around once every 10 minutes, then it sat in my bag for an hour, now after about another 15 minutes of use in Chrome, I am down to 75%. That's with power saver on and the brightness at 70%. This is problematic. As I mentioned earlier, the IPS panel doesn't get very bright at 100%, so 70% is just dim. Also I feel that I shouldn't have to turn on the power saver mode to get barely reasonable battery performance. SMH. Yesterday, with a similar load, but with a couple hours of photo editing in Light Room, I made it down to 20% by the end of the day. This laptop uses a USB C port to charge, which is awesome, but you need the 45w power adapter to put any power into the machine in a reasonable amount of time. An hour on a Qualcom Quickcharge 2.0 adapter I carry with me for my phone puts in around 5-7%. Also, I tried charging the laptop of a power bank at 10W and was unsusccessful. The laptop would just not accept charge. Maybe it was the fault of the cable, but this is my experience. It would take power for about 5 seconds, then the charge light would go out and the battery status would read "plugged in, not charging". RIP. Performance leaves a little bit to be desired. I know I bought a thin and light, not a desktop replacement, but the 4gb RAM model was a mistake. I think my expectations were a little high for the 7200u, but rendering in Premiere kinda sucks on here. It's not bad, but it's time consuming. Lastly, why the hell isn't there an SD card reader? Like, not even a micro SD, there's just nothing. That was really disappointing when I brought this and my camera on a trip. Luckily, my phone has a micro SD reader, so I transferred photos to there, then to the computer. I really would have liked to see a card reader on here and a little more I/O, 1 USB 3 type A, one 3.0 type C, and one Thunderbolt 3. A bit disappointing, but I fortunately have't needed more than that. So conclusion time. Overall, I am very impressed with what Lenovo has brought to the table in this mid range ultrabook bracket. While this isn't the top end model, this Yoga 720 does everything I ask of it with moderate confidence and looks damn fine while doing it. I probably ask too much of it when I decide it's a great idea to try to get some work done on that video project I have going on, but the it's glorious in the classroom. The keyboard is just such a joy to dance across, and the glossy IPS screen delivers a beautiful picture, though it could be brighter. However, you will have to start carrying the charger, a microfiber cloth, and some USB (A and C) adapters if you want to get some real productivity out of it for a whole day or more. Unless you're one of those people that actually uses the touch screen on a laptop, I recommend turning the touch screen off, but if all of that isn't enough to dissuade you, I highly recommend this machine to just about everyone.

Hello fellow nerds! This might be abit TL:DR, but here goes: Im soon getting my tax returns, and I were just notified that im getting a rather pretty sum, around the equivalent of 3500$/Euros/GBPs ... (Norway), and thus im thinking of spening around 1500 or so on a new laptop. My current one is the one im using on gigs (DJing), and this one is of the fruity/vegtable kind (MBP retina 2015), and while I love the quiality of the hardware, I HATE the OS, but replaceing it is not an option, as the DJ software im useing (Serato for thoose who care) is a much better experience in the apple flavour compared to the building material flavour. What I do love with the formentioned computer is the building quality, the screen quality and the trackpad, as well as the scilent operation during light use, and rather quiet during medium use. With light use, I primarily think of web-browsing and watching youtube (in 1080P), and medium use is steam-in-house-game-streaming from my gameing rig (love that stuff!). So, are there any laptops with a similar quality and feel to the build, similar screen quality, and whom do not spin up their fans during youtube playback (I watch to much YT before bedtime, and my wife HATES fan noise). I predict the following usecases: * Consuming webcontent, youtube, twitch, and the similars * Google drive/sheets/similars * Steam in-house game streaming from the gameing rig * Possibly some light movie editing (create movie from holiday pictures and similar), altho this can be done remotely on the gameing rig I also predict I want the following: * Atleast "top of the line" i5, possibly i7, preferably 4C/4T or 4C/8T, with a minimum of 2C/4T, but I guess the more scilent computers are mostly the "U" variant with 2c/4t * 256gig SSD should suffice, preferably of the fast(er) kind, samsung 950 or similar. * 8gigs of ram as a minimum, as 4 is usually to little, but im not sure if i can see a usecase for 16gigs if the forseeable future. * Possibly a medium sort of GPU (1050 or so?), but probably not neccesary * A good screen, picture quality is above resolution, as the formentioned apple has a rather nice screen. some 3200x1800 IPS or something? * Solid build quality. The old DJ-computer (2008 or 2009 MBP) lasted me 6-7 years before i got this one, and it is still in use as a light-controller/DMX-controller on some gigs. * Rather portable, the roughly 13" (12,5 to 14 i guess) is a nice comprimize of size and portability. But I can concider a 15" if its a good and scilent one. Pricepoint? Im looking in the 1500-2000$ range (15-20.000 NOK), but I obviously do not wanna spend more then I actually have to. As I mentioned, fan noise during light work/Youtube watching is of a high priority, with all over "this is a good puter" beeing second Im looking at the following candiates, but it is not limited to them: Dell XPS13 ? HP Spectre 360? link! Something asus? Something Lenovo? Possibly this one? - 7700HQ Microsoft Surface Laptop? link! There is this MSI-laptop, but I _DO_ hate the "gaming look", but the specs are pretty nice, but im worried about fan noise, even at idle/light work. Something Saeger/Clevo? (Branded as Multicom in norway, but same stuff). Something completely different? (No Razers in norway :/) Thanx for any advice! -DJ-

So as of now, im living in Mexico, and AFAIK, there is no way to buy the new AW 13 around these lands. Fortunately I´ll be in Dubai for christmas and will try to buy it there. Is there any particular place anyone recommend to buy the AW 13? Side question: Im opting for an Alienware as im looking forward to heavy gaming, and the OLED screen with the possibility upgrading with an external card in the future seem quite fitting. Any other recommendation you guys can give?

So I am about to buy a new laptop and it needs to happen before X-mas. I would like to use cyber Monday deals and think that now is the best time to buy. I am stuck between the Cps 13 and Alienware 13. A little about me... I game on my pc, however a new computer for guests would be useful. I travel between houses, so portability is key. I would love to be able to game on the go, by gaming I mean mostly multiplayer and occasionally a single player one. I play lots of overwatch and other light games I think I like the Alienware 13 a lot however I am unsure if it will be portable enough. Battery life on both is good enough so that's not a problem. As far as I am aware the iris 540 integrated graphics can run overwatch, CSGO, emulators, and Minecraft. That dedicated graphics card however would open my dear to VR and other more intense games. What do you guys think? Anyone have any experience with these?

I found 2 dells and im not sure which one to buy (800 usd vs 1110 usd) Is the price difference worth having almost 2x better cpu? Do i need that better cpu? I allready have gaming rig so what im looking for is machine for movies internet and maybe playing some clasics like diablo 2 fallouts 1-2 Both have thunderbolt so i can add egpu especially that i have msi gtx 970 4gb laying around but i dont think i would ever really need to do that but if i decided to do then 8550U processor would be better So should i save up money and just buy 2 in 1 ? Will it be enough for what i need or im gonna regret getting that slow cpu Dell XPS 13 9365 I7-7Y75 512 SSD 16GB FHD IPS 2in1 - 800 usd (used) Dell XPS 13 9370 i7-8550U 16GB 512GB FHD - 1110 usd (used) - 1265 usd (new) Thanks Regards

Hey my old pc is needing an upgrade and i want to upgrade it from i3-2120 to something else. Can i upgrade it to anything as long as it is FCLGA 1155 (LGA 1155)?

My friend is looking for a productivity laptop and doesn't want to spend more than $700. She wants it to be portable so 13" is probably best and she cares about screen qualit. She has been using an old MacBook with 80GB of storage so she already has everything on Google drive and so doesn't need a large hard driv. A touch screen would be really nice but if she didn't get one she wouldn't know what she was missing. I already checked hp, Dell, and Costco but found nothing that sood out to me.

Hello! So, recently I found out that the European Parliament has voted for `The Copyright Directive`, articles 11 and 13... Does this mean, if a person lives in Europe, and wants to record a videogame, example gta 5, is the person allowed to do this at this state or no, and upload the footage on YouTube? I do not fully understand what is going on with this, so if someone could kindly explain to me what the hell is going on with this... Thanks!

Dell XPS 13 2 in 1 vs Normal non bendy one
Fadednova posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Just wanted to ask is the downgraded processor still good in the 2 in 1 system. Will be used for A LOT of school work (aka light video and audio editing, photo editing and word processing), some low to mid gaming (30 fps is ok) and browsing the wdw (world dank web). No budget and if you suggest a better light and small pc go ahead. -
I am starting fall semester soon. I currently have a mid-2015 15" MBP i7 2.2Ghz 16GB ram and 512GB SSD. As well as this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/T7PbpG (Actually has 2 WD Black 2TB HDD) I am wanting to sell both and try something different. I want to get a 13" laptop with decent specs: Quad core 8th gen 16gb of ram (8gb if upgradable) 512gb SSD (smaller if more can be added) Thunderbolt 3 is a must. Graphics not much of an issue. I will get an external graphics enclosure and run it docked when at home. Looking for something clean and non gamer looking laptop. Would like to keep it under $1200. The lower the better.

Hi there so I have had my new LG gram 13 2018 for around a month, and I love it blends portability and performance very well. But there are some shortfalls 1st 8gb of ram is barely enough for my workload, and I find myself being limited, second, it has a 256gb SATA ssd, which is quickly running out of space and slows down my workload due to the lower read and writes speeds. So I'm strongly considering upgrading the ram to 16gb and the storage 500gb NVME. Now, this is where the problem first on the matter of Ram I've read that in my model the i5 that 4gb is sodered and 4 is a slot ive also read that it is all soldered and finally that eight is soldered and a there is a free slot. So you can see my dilema, while I'm willing to have 12gb I want to know what I'm getting into. Now on the matter of storage. I plan to clone my current SSD onto the new one, but unlike cloning other an SSD, I can not seem to find an external enclosure any help on these issues is greatly appreciated
-
Hi there, so it is pretty basic. I just got the Lg Gram 13, with the i5-8250u. And out of the box, it is noticeably loud, and this is surprising. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to quiet the machine down since even sitting idle the fan is spinning and while web browsing the computer is anywhere from 75-80c which seem hotter than it should be any help is appreciated. edit- it seems to be continually turboing up to 3.3ghz even at 20% utilization

So i'm looking to buy a laptop that will be great for video editing, and is also great for overall tasks. I am looking at currently the Dell XPS 13 9360 model with similar specs, except for the CPU. Both have: 16gb ram 512gb SSD 3200x1800 Touch Screen The $250 difference between one model and another is one has an i7-7560u, which is $1000, while the other model has an i7-8550u, which is $1250. Is the added $250 worth it for a same laptop, but just a different CPU?
