This happened after the last Windows 10 update. PNG's icon is showing normally, but not JPEG's. Also the "Search Windows" bar is total black. Though I can't remember if that was the case before, not sure.

Hi everyone, For the longest time since I've been using windows 10, my PC would randomly lockup, and freeze on me My mouse cursor would still be able to move but once I click on something, that's when the freezing would happen. During these freezes, I would try to restart with the restart button but then it takes me to a 'select boot os' black screen after the bios, the only real remedy is that I hold the power button and do a hard shut down. I've reinstalled a number of times and it still happens to me, does anyone know what I can do? If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it!

I currently have 24GBs of ddr3 RAM, I am only using about 1GB according to the user tab in task manager, but the total usage is almost 6GB. Any ideas?

Why is this happening!??? My laptop tends to be laggy and Disk Keeps running at 99-100% Half of the time! I bought an HP Star Wars Edition Laptop brand new from a store last year in December. Keep in mind that I live in the Caribbean. The Laptop's features are basic: Skylake i5, 6GB ram, and a TB Hardrive. That should be good enough to run basic things pretty smoothly right? Why the hell is it not then? Yeah, sure it, it ran pretty smoothly for the first couple of months, but ever since 2 months ago, I've realized that my laptop gets realllly slow...something I wouldn't expect for a machine with an i5 and 6GB of ram. I know that I run a couple of tabs on chrome on, and I use demanding software like the Adobe suite (namely photoshop, illustrator and premiere) but still, even during times when I don't, my laptop would get sluggish. What do I do??? Is it because of the 6gb of ram that's slowing me down? Also, Please see attached as a screenshot I too that I have no idea what caused it. Is this common on windows 10? I disabled windows search and that seems to have helped a bit. But that still can't explain what I saw on my own laptop in the picture provided! Just realized that it doesn't show exactly what I saw at the moment, where the pop up seemed to have duplicated itself endlessly on everything that is on and under the black line.ike how it used to on windows XP. Please help on what to do!

Hello good LTT people: Since I downloaded win 10 creators update, I've had some weird bug happening. About 1 in 6 times when I power up my PC, none of my icons show text, neither in file explorer nor in any other app. Drop down menus are useless in all of my apps and dialogs, and the only thing I can really do to solve it is reboot the PC. Has anyone experienced similar issues? If so, has anyone been able to permanently solve this issue? See the attached image for reference in desktop icons. If it happens again I'll try to get some pics of other programs and menus. (screen cap is all messed up when this bug happens) Cheers!

Is it possible to interact with notifications in the action center in Win 10 similar to how we interact with notifications on our mobile devices(opening the appropriate programs, etc.)?

Hello, I have created post earlier about same problem but nothing really solved and topic died already, so i am creating a new one. the problem is on my new Ryzen system after I wake pc from sleep pc clock runs slower than actual time. Example would be taking phone chronometer and one minute on phone, pc moves only 46 seconds. (last measured) windows 10 keeps good job synchronizing time to real world time, but is very often not accurate upto 1 hr. This slow time results all sorts of issues like vlc chopping playback and games run slow and displays crazy fps (more frames generated in a "longer second"). this only malfunctions after waking up from sleep, and after normal reboot is fine. (but I want to use sleep function on my pc to resume work where I left, but also not running pc when I am not using to save power) It shouldn't be cmos battery problem as time is not resetting, though I checked and voltage was 3.2v , so its good. I updated motherboard bios to 1002 and problem persists I did try to turn off HPET using cmd bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock and I get this response: An error occurred while attempting to delete the specified data element. Element not found. so I think is off already. and I didn't find where to turn it off in bios. I am really out of ideas and I did quite some research on web for this and nothing really worked. it doesn't look like motherboard failure because it's working fine after reboot. Or should I RMA the motherboard? thanks. hardware: asus crosshair 6 hero ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.95 ghz corsair veangeance lpx 2x16 @ 2666mhz nvidia gtx1080 FE RM850i psu samsung 960evo ssd + 3 sata drives win 10

Hey, I hope I posted this in the right subforum, if not, sorry. Last evening I used my Laptop for the first time after like 3 weeks on battery. Everything went fine and like it should. Then I closed it, and it went into sleep mode for the night. Pretty normal. This morning I wanted to game a little, but the FPS are so bad that it is not possible. I looked whats going on, and the CPU only goes to around 1.67GHz. Temperatures are below 60°C and the power consumption isn't unnormally high either. The power Setting inside Windows is on "Höchstleistung". I don't know what it's named in english, sorry. Could anyone help, please? Thx

Does anyone know from experience or from documentation on if the downloadable version of Windows 10 is regularly updated? I mean, does the image you can download get updated with patches, etc. on occasion? Obviously the Windows 10 USB key that's purchasable isn't updated unless you do it yourself, but I'd like to think they'd update it both in terms of convenience and security.

Hi guys, this is my first post on LTT. I rarely have issues with my PC but now that I have one I could only think of one place to ask for help! Recently I have been having issues with what I believe is driver problems for my GTX960. I first noticed it with Youtube where I would be skipping through a video and then the video would hang, no big deal, just refresh the page and carry on from where I left off. Bare in mind I am currently running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview. But now it is much more present. Last night I powered on my machine, went to log into the front end gui of my FreeNAS machine and the page didn't load. Then I attempted to load Plex, still nothing. I checked Facebook and Youtube, no problems only for the usual Youtube video freezing when I skip through. This was all done in the Chrome browser. I then proceeded to try Firefox and FF wouldn't even load Google. VLC player also drops frames every 10 or so mins when playing a movie. This is where it gets weird, the first thing I though of was the graphics driver so I saw I was running the version 373.06. A newer 375.95 version so I opened GeForce Experience and went to download it, when it got to 100%, it would throw an error "Download has Failed". Ok, so then I downloaded the driver manually from Nvidia, when I went to run it, straight away it threw the error "Nvidia Package Manger has stopped working". I tried different compatibility versions and also running as admin. I even tried downloading the Windows 7 version and still nothing. I also did this for an older 372.90 driver, same thing. I manually uninstalled my current driver, and when I restarted my machine, Windows Update automatically installed the driver 372.90. Still seeing the same symptoms. I have no idea where to go from here and I really don't want to do a complete Windows 10 reinstall. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Hi everyone. This is the worst day of my life. My ROG GL552VX has this problem that it doesn't let me use the taskbar. This was my fault because I've downloaded something that contains a virus. All solutions that I saw on the internet didn't fix this problem. Even ESET NOD32 Antivirus 9 can't detect the virus, I run a full system in-depth scan to both drives C:/ and D:/ which is the default partitioning of this unit. So I don't have any choice but to reinstall Windows 10. With this chance to reformat the device, I would take an advantage to repartition it too. So that I may use the free space in C:/ drive to put games on it to achieve increased Read/Write Speeds. The default partition size for C:/ is at least 371GB and for D:/ is somewhere in 558GB. I would like to partition it like this: C:/ will be 50GB and D:/ will be the rest available space. With that in mind I now have this question, does repartitioning the drive (remove the Product Key of this device)/(does it need to ask the Product Key) when installing Windows 10? Or this will skip this step? I would like to know this information before attempting anything so that I will be sure that when installation comes, it won't ask me about the product key(since I don't have it). (Optional)And if you know anything about this virus, you can advice me on doing some trials to fix this. It would be great too!

I bought a wireless adapter to use the xbox 1 controllers on pc. In the documentation it states that 8 controllers and 4 chat headsets or 2 stereo headsets (I assume for passing through game audio) could be used at the same time. When I plug a headset into the controllers, they show up as 3/4-USB audio device. Individually they work and they pass through audio, but with 1 headset plugged into each of the controllers at the same time, it only passes through audio on the headset connected first. Is this something that's actually supported or is MS documentation bs? If so how do I go about making it work? Microsoft's support doesn't know (becoming the norm it seems) and i'm trying to figure this out.

I'm quite familiar with using snap assist for productivity, and often utilise it at home and work At the moment I'm wondering if there's a tool I can use to allow more customisation of where I can snap windows to. Specifically, I'd like to easily snap windows into thirds, running vertically. I can obviously resize windows manually but this gets tedious when I want to rearrange things. I know this cant be done natively in Win10, but any help regarding apps or plugins that do something similar to what I'm after would be cool

I have an Asus ROG G751JM laptop, and on the keyboard is a button with the ROG logo. Im trying to figure out what it does and how to get it to work as when I press it nothing happens. Hi everyone. I am looking to get an asus p5ql motherboard. On the asus website, there is no option to download windows 10 drivers for it, but there is the option for drivers for windows 8.1 and down. Would I run into problems if I tried to run windows 10 on this motherboard? Any help I appreciated.
