A few days back, I decided to upgrade an old Acer Veriton m6610 to Windows 10. As well as adding a used GTX 960 2gb, to maybe use it for gaming here and there. Immediately after the upgrade, as well as a restart, checked Task Manager to see if everything seemed well for the i5 2400. This was when I saw the 100% CPU usage. Curiously though, I wasn't experiencing slowdowns anywhere, so I decided to check how much CPU usage HWMonitor would report, and to my surprise HWMonitor was showing CPU usage on any of the cores to be 0-15%. I've combed over some other forums' answers on lowering CPU usage after an upgrade to WIN 10, but none has worked so far (at least for Task manager to not show 100% all the time). Changing startup programs around, Windows Clean boot/startup, uninstalling - reinstalling drivers and applications, disabling some services (reenabled them after since they showed no difference). Spec Sheet - All the programs were installed on the system when it was still Windows 7, and Task Manager would report CPU usage to be at 1-3% during idle then. - The program with the highest CPU usage isn't always the same, it changes from anything to anything (System services, Open programs, Antivirus, NVIDIA suff, anything). Any recommendations on lowering the CPU usage, or ideas on why Task manager is saying it is on 100%?

Hey guys, I'm currently considering to drop Avast for something else after hearing that it's spyware and at times even malware. Is it true that Avast is malware and spyware? If so, what are some good alternatives to it?

I think know why it does this, I bought a new DS4 (controller) and since then it started doing this. How can I turn it off, I think I somehow have to disable the microphone? It didn't do this with my old DS4 (older model) which is weird.

I'm using slightly older system to run some CNC equipment that I have. It's a poweredge 2950 gen 3. The system has a pair of 5460s 32 gigs of RAM and a PCI USB 3.0 card. I have a variety of graphics cards that I've tried in the system. Asus 210 slient, evga gs8300, Dell Quadro 2000, msi GTX 960. My issue is it all the cards will Boot and work drivers install and everything is fine in Windows 7. Server 08, However when stepping up to Windows 10 Pro the machine fails to boot. If I remove the graphics card it boots using the on board video. There's a new piece of software I'm trying to get but it's not compatible with 7 which is why the upgrade. Any thoughts or ideas why a card would work worth 7 but not 10?

I have a Gateway Desktop SX2803-US20P. It came with Win7 and when it was free Win10 upgrade, I upgraded. It worked fine until around April. During the April update, it stuck at an update loop. So I create a Win10 USB stick for fresh install. It always crashes when setting up. Then I thought hardware problem. Run Memtest, no problem. Install Ubuntu 16.04, and run stress, no problem. Just cant seem to install Win10. Any other suggestions?

I've recently picked up 4 (new to me) dell 2950s' two of which are gen 3 running a pair of xeon E5450 and two gen 1 running a pair of xeon 5050. all of which are a serious upgrade from my current servers of various intel and older powered edge models. all of my current servers do me fin with the exception of streaming some of the newer blue ray content over the network. my issue is the two gen3 and one of the gen1 servers will allow me to boot any os and install win10, win7, server12, and server08. however I have one that gets stuck at the boot screen. it will open the files.... display with windows logo and right before it loads the installation screen it freezes. The other three units will load whatever I throw in them but this one only boots server03. also seams like the gen3 servers are a lot quieter then the gen1's. any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. even for loud servers they are only half as noisy as my older intel and pesc1425 units. plaining to grab a 1366 board down the road and a pair of hex core's possibly for better video streaming. I realize there's many better options out there as far as server components go. but lets face it if I had the money to but some sweet new hardware id have a different username.

Heyo, I have an on-going issue where the taskbar sometimes goes in front of everything else (when something is on fullscreen like a video) on my screen. I don't know how to fix this, sometimes it fixes itself and when I try to click-hold-drag up (to show recent files) on my taskbar icons, the left most icon gets a white box and nothing really happens. Does anyone know how to fix this?

hey guys! i seem to be running into so issues installing windows on my new Samsung evo 970 m.2 nvme. i opend my pc and removed the old transcend SATA m.2 and installed the new Samsung nvme m.2, unplugged all other harddrives from the MB and poped in my bootable USB with win 10 pro. all goes well until u need to format the m.2 sothat windows can install, i keep getting a 0x80004005 error. i did some searching and its said that a windows file is missing.... even though i have used the usb multiple times before. so i search for a guide on a fresh windows install on a m.2 and found that there are some things i need to change in the bios. these are what i changed (MB is an MSI z170a Tomahawk) - settings/ advanced/ integrated peripherals/ SATA Mode i chanded from Raid (as i dont want to run a raid setup) to AHCI as per the guide. - settings/ advanced/ windows OS Configuration, here i disabled fast boot and both support for win 10 and win 7 installation as the guid said to use "Other OS" and i dont have that option. now before we go any further i tried enabling win 10 in wich case i cant get past the bios to try and install windows how ever is i enable win 7 i can get windows to load but get stuck at that error. please see image below any advice is appreciated.

My uncle gave me this old pc with an intel i7 920 cpu, a gigabyte geforce gts 250 gpu, 4g ddr3 ram in the gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 motherboard. The pc was running win 7 when i got it but i upgraded it to win10. Since then when I press the power button it will load into windows and after 10-20 seconds the screen will glitch and then freeze. I am not able to downgrade back to win 7 because the one month period has expired. Sometimes when i try to open it in safe mode the screen will glitch again but wont freeze. I have tryied booting in multiple different monitors with multiple different cables and the problem is not caused by the monitors witch work perfectly when i connect them with other devices such as my laptop. I tryied instaling the latest version of untutu linux from a usb flash drive and the same thing happened. It loaded linux and after 10 seconds the screen glitched and froze. The installer works perfectly fine when I open it on another computer. At this point i dont know what else to do and im trying to find a solution via the forum. It would be highly appreciated if someone could tell me what the problem is. Thanks for hearing me.

I asked about this late last year, but it hasn't gone away, so I'm re-posting about this issue. ---------- I have a PC with two installs of Windows 10 Pro on two separate SSDs. When I first built this PC, I was able to install and login to Steam on each one, and I'd always be signed in when I started either one.Recently, if I sign in to Steam on OS-1, when I next log in to OS-2, Steam will make me sign in again. The check box is checked to keep me signed in, but it no longer works. If I simply reboot back into OS-1, Steam remembers my login status. But forgets it when I switch to OS-2Each OS is totally independant of the other, and Steam shares no files between them.Seeing as both OS-es are on the same PC, I'm NOT looking for some way to be logged in on both at the same time. That's impossible! I just want Steam to keep asking me to sign in when I switch from one OS to the other. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Hello there, I have finally decided to seek technical support as this problem I have has been frustrating me for a long long time now. This issue has been occurring for as long as my (semi-) new build has existed; about 8 months. I have done lots and lots of troubleshooting and as you probably can tell - with neither luck nor success. Whenever I start downloading (streaming as well of course) a usually large file using either Steam or JDownloader or even Chrome sometimes, my PC starts freezing after an unexpected amount of time (I use WiFi btw). Using JDownloader however, I have noticed that every single time this happens, the average download speed keeps decreasing until it reaches 0 MB/s and only a 5-7 seconds after the computer becomes completely unresponsive, meaning a hard lock with no BSODS or anything - no mouse movement at all, no caps lock led working, nothing at all. I tried waiting for the PC to become responsive after a while but after several hours, it was still the same. So the only thing that's left is a hard reset, which is a big pain every time I have to do it. I went to check for any errors in the Event Viewer, but no indicators pointing to an error, just the standard "The last system shutdown was not proper" due to unknown reasons - nothing else. So what have I tried (this might not contain everything as I have really tried a lot and over the past few months I will surely have forgotten some things): - Checked for faulty hardware (exchanged network adapter with my brother's, checked for HDD errors, ran memory check for several hours, stress tested GPU and CPU, changed some of the SATA cables). Only thing I did not try was try out another PSU, as the one I'm using is from my slightly older build from 2015, but still it should not be the problem as heavy gaming for a very long period of time does not cause any errors. So I think all in all, the hardware should not be faulty - any crashes or at least freezes should occur while gaming otherwise, no? - Completely wiping my disk and re-installing Win 10. - Tried re-seating my RAM DIMM's and pressure-air-cleaning all components after re-seating them. I tried putting the network card (which is still a bit of a suspect to me tbf) into another PCI-e slot but it did not bear any fruit either. - Checked of course for malware but there wasn't anything malicious there. - Tried using the the all in one repair software from Tweaking.com, and went trough all the options, but nothing either. - sfc /scannow, chkdsk, and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and its other forms were also all tried but did not show any problems. - Setting hard drive to not sleep automatically after a while - High-Performance enery mode - Network adapter cannot control PC in terms of sleeping - Flashed most recent BIOS update - Updated CPU, GPU and network drivers - Temps are also always fine. As I mentioned before, I might have forgotten to list everyting, so any further suggestions are really very welcome and I will be answering immediately, as I am really desperate at this point. The problem with this issue is that is not reproducable at will, meaning it just happens after a while of downloading - can be after 2 minutes of downloading or after 6 hours of downloading - it's really very random. Now I doubt it's a hardware issue, but what still comes to my mind is either a service or driver issue. I have not tried downloading or streaming from safe mode yet, but I am planning to, if everything else fails. Now I've had the idea of monitoring the PC a long time ago, but that was not helpful at all either, because CPU usage stays the same, GPU does not show any unexpected behaviour or spikes and memory and disk usage are all the same as well. Network usage of course is a little high but that is natural due to the downloading. I have used Task Manager, ProcessHacker, MSI Afterburner, HWMonitor and AIDA64 for monitoring but there is simply nothing that is being monitored which could be a lead. As I also mentioned before, the issue with his problem is that it's very random - as in I cannot force it, it just happens all of a sudden. I tried out many situations, e.g. Gaming while downloading, watching Youtube while downloading and even leaving the PC completely alone while downloading but it just freezes after a while. I have several programs running in the background, such as MSI Afterburner along with RivaTuner, Teamviewer, Rainmeter, Logitech Gaming Software (for my peripherals), TranslucentTB and Asus AURA Sync to name a few. I have thought about disabling them all of them and then re-enabling them one by one to try and force the the PC to freeze but that is a really big amount of labour that I'm currently postponing for a later occasion. Now I have thought - is there a program that would monitor EVERYTHING that's happening on the PC, even if it's a huge resource hog, I would not care, that would show me the log after I hard reset the PC? A program that can monitor services starting up, drivers loading, background applications starting and closing and general hardware usage. Does anybody know of a program like that? That would help me a lot. I usually like my PC to be very clean and optimized, and do not tolerate any bugs or crashes and what not, and try to solve all problems as soon as I find one but at this point I would even be willing to stop using Steam or downloading anything over JDownloader, if this would just avoid this issue, but even streaming Twitch or sports events results in a complete lockup after a while. I am really desperate and any kind of help is really welcome, so I appreciate all the answers. Of course, specs are: MoBo: ASUS Prime X370 PRO CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (at stock clock) GPU: NVidia GTX 1080 Ti (also stock) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 (2 sticks of 8 GB, dual channel, using XMP profile) PSU: EVGA B2 750W SSD: Samsung EVO 850, 250 GB HDD: 2x WD Blue, 1TB Network: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I (using the Intel AC7260 chip) OS: Windows 10 PRO, using latest build Let me know if I forgot any of the specs, as I'm currently a little tired and might have forgotten a thing or two and thank you in advance!

So my friend gave me a PC to repair it because he changed the motherboard and the CPU because the previous ones died. I tried to turn it on, and it would just go with the “BSOD 0x000(...)A5 the ACPI BIOS in the system is not fully compliant with the ACPI specification”. I tried to put my USB with win 10 and there would be another BSOD even before the instalation begins “Stop 0x00(...)07B. Removed the USB and tried with the one which has win 7 on it. The instalation began and then after copying all files there was some error again that some files are missing, but I had already used that same usb with same ISO file on my own PC and everything worked. Then I removed hard drive from friends computer and installed it in mine and when i try with both USB’s, both errors happend at that specific time (win 10 BSOD and win 7 error). Any solutions or suggesions would be helpful

So I'm pretty sure most of you would know that after 10th April 2018...Windows will no longer receive security updates and etc... It would say like: "Important updates needed "After April 10, 2018, Microsoft will no longer support your version of Windows 10, and this PC won't receive official security updates. "These security updates help protect your personal data from harmful viruses, malware, spyware, and other malicious software. Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10 immediately. "Select Download updates to begin downloading and installing the new version of Windows 10. The update may be up to 6 GB, and may take a few hours to download depending on your internet speed and PC performance. Internet access fees may apply. (button) "Download updates (button) "I need help (button) "Not right now" So once I click update now and finish downloading the update. it prompts me to update now and install...Then it restarts and starts the percentage with blue screen Once it finishes till 100% and restart again, it would then start a loop where it launches the boot screen (HP Boot Screen) -> (Windows 10 Startup Screen with the circle dots going around at the bottom) -> (Then there's like a small cmd prompt blink and vanishes) -> (Followed by a "Attempting to recover installation" with the white dots moving in a circle again) -> (Then a second later, "Restoring your previous version of Windows") -> Then blank screen and computer restarts from the HP Boot Screen. Please help me fix this!!! Are there any ways to recover this issue? Is it a glitch or smth?

My friend wants to replace his CPU and the shop tells says they need $50 (currency converted) to replace the CPU and motherboard and reinstall Windows. Since Windows 7 is troublesome and all to use such as reformatting requiring the disks for it to work, my friend has agreed to replace his OS to Windows 10. So (This is the part where I question my methods, sorry for wasting your time by reading the above) if I 1) Use a Windows 10 installation media thing as boot drive so the pc boots into the Windows 10 installer and I install Windows 10 would it work to overwrite the existing OS which is Windows 7? 2) If step no. 1 does work, if I reformat that pc using the built in Windows 10 reformat feature, would it cause any problems or revert back to Windows 7? (Probably not?) Thanks for looking through and helping me answer this question!
